Why is Dot Loss an Issue in Gravure Printing and How Can It Be Resolved?
Dot Loss" is one of the four major hazards in gravure printing. Here are the causes and solutions to this problem:
I. Plate Issues:
Use a plate cleaning agent to wipe the areas where dot loss occurs on the plate, which can solve dot loss caused by plate blockage.
If wiping the plate doesn't solve the problem, carefully examine the plate with a magnifying glass equipped with a light source to see if engraving or corrosion during plate making has caused dot defects. If there are defects in plate making, re-plating is necessary. paper bag printing.
During plate making, analyze the original manuscript according to the equipment available in the printing plant and the printing materials used. catalog printing. If necessary, special treatment should be applied to the highlight areas prone to dot loss, commonly referred to as deepening.
If the wire lines on the plate are too thick or the gap between dots is too large, causing ink to spread unevenly during printing and resulting in dot loss, the plate needs to be remade to change the shape and angle of the dots. printing in China.
II. Ink Issues:
High ink viscosity or yield stress leads to poor ink transfer. The solution is to reduce ink viscosity to ensure good ink leveling and improve ink wetting properties on the plate.
Ink drying too quickly and unevenly distributed on the plate, causing premature drying and solidification. book printing. The solution is to improve the initial drying of the ink, use slow-drying solvents, reduce ink drying speed, and increase dot gain.
No additional blowing treatment should be applied to the plate during the printing process.
Poor wetting between ink and plate (mismatched surface tension) makes it difficult for transferred ink to spread. In this case, adjust the position of the doctor blade holder to shorten the distance between the doctor blade and the plate cylinder.
III. Plate Speed and Pressure:
When dot loss or unclear levels occur, increasing printing speed and adjusting printing pressure appropriately can solve the problem.
IV. Doctor Blade Issues:
If the doctor blade pressure is too high while the printing roller pressure is insufficient, adjust both the doctor blade pressure and the printing roller pressure accordingly.

My Favorite Revolver…S&W Pre-Model 15

Many, many years ago my father had picked up an old Smith & Wesson revolver chambered in .38 Special. At the time he nor I knew too much about it, but he ended up giving it to me. It has some engraving on the revolver itself from some sort of department. It’s electro penciled with some initials and a number. It would be really cool to find out exactly where this revolver spent time serving. This particular revolver was my very first. I took it into a shop and unlike newer revolvers by Smith & Wesson, it doesn’t have a model on the revolver behind the cylinder yoke, like 10-1 or 66-1 etc… The serial number is on the bottom of the grip and starts with a K, so it is a K frame similar in size to a Model 10. It has a blade front sight and an adjustable rear sight leaf. Case hardened hammer and trigger assembly with a very bright and deep bluing.

After a bit of research I discovered that it’s actually a Model 15 4”, but before they marked them as such. It’s a Pre-Model 15 from around 1957 based on some research of the serial number itself. Very early on I changed out the wooden grips(which don’t appear to be the original anyways) for a set of Hogue rubber grips I picked up from Brownells. Hogue grips make the shooting experience of any revolver so much better. The help to get a better purchase on the grip, but also help to soak up any recoil by the revolver. Of course .38 Special is a soft shooter anyways. After some more years go by I decided to re-install the wood grips that were on the revolver when my Dad picked it up. They just look right on an old classic revolver such as this. I also spent some time taking the side plate off to inspect and lubricate the working internals. Who knows how long it had been since it had been removed for an inspection. Using my magna bit set from Brownells, which I highly recommend since it has all the different fine flat blades needed for classic firearms, I gently removed the screws and side plate. The internals were fairly dirty, but didn’t see anything that looked worn enough warrantying a replacement. I lubricated and put it back together.

Shooting this old revolver is actually quite an experience. It’s very accurate. I use 158gr semi wadcutters and Hodgdon Tite Group powder for my hand loads. I load them very soft so that anyone can shoot it and have fun doing so and not have to worry about recoil scare. It’s truly an awesome firearm to hand to a new shooter that maybe has never fired a firearm or doesn’t have much experience. Hopefully I can eventually find some information regarding the department this revolver was issued to. I believe Smith & Wesson does keep some records, but I have yet to reach out to them. This is one of those firearms that surely will be passed down to one of my daughters someday and hopefully onto one of their children just as my father passed it down to me.

LOTO PADLOCKS – THE 3PTP™ (3 Point Traceability Padlock)

The ubiquitous plastic padlock used for immobilizing a wide range of energy sources in lockout tagout programs has come a long way in 30 years from the date when OSHA enforced energy isolation guidelines on industry to prevent injuries and fatalities in the workplace.
The metamorphosis of the LOTO padlock over the past few years has led to several additional features being inculcated along with a higher degree of tamper resistance and traceability by various manufacturers.

https://www.lotosafetyproducts.com/product/plastic-lockout-padlocks/
https://lockouttagoutmuscatoman.com/product/premium-plastic-safety-lockout-padlocks-2/

CONSIDER THIS:
For over 2 decades, the market was dominated by 2 American brands who made plastic padlocks which had little or no information other than a number lasered on the key.
Additional features viz: individual names, logos and key number engraving on padlock body were customized at additional costs to be incurred by the buyer.
The key system of the padlock, ie: Keyed Different OR Keyed Alike OR Master Keyed was generally recorded in the system but did not appear anywhere on the padlock. In the event of key loss or misplacement informed decisions could not be made on whether the lock had to be destroyed or if a spare key was available.
Padlock covers to protect dust, dew and grit ingress were available as an additional product from some manufacturers.

THE 3PTP STORY:
As a relative newbie in the LOTO scene in 2011, we were always brainstorming on how we could add value and address gaps to provide additional features out-of-the-box to save downtime on tracing keys to locks, knowing the key system without having to refer to documents as well as retrieving keys quickly from cabinets to open locks during the re-energization process.
The 3 Point Traceability Padlock (3PTP) was born from various inputs derived from end user interactions.
The features we inculcated into the padlock helped save substantial downtime and increased the life of the padlock with it’s weather protection features.
Key system molded on body and one side of key – KD (Keyed Different), KA (Keyed Alike), KD+MK (Keyed Different + Master Keyed).
Key number lasered on padlock body and key enabling quick key to lock tracing.
Key jacket matching padlock color resulted in saving substantial downtime when tracing keys from cabinets.
A sliding key cover which prevented dust, grime, dew and grit ingress into the cylinder.
2 additional rubber bushes which if needed could be installed on the shackle to prevent ingress into the plastic body of the padlock.
SUCCESS LIES IN THINKING FROM THE CUSTOMER VIEWPOINT:
The patented 3PTP padlocks were launched in 2012 and over time ended up establishing the gold standard for energy isolation padlocks. The popularity increased over time leading to most customers specifying the 3PTP features as a minimum standard for their LOTO programs thereby forcing the competition to comply.
Not content to rest on our laurels, we kept working on improvements to make a more aesthetic + higher tamper resistance padlock.

REVAMPING THE 3PTP OVER A DECADE:
Steel chrome plated shackle changed to SS304 to prevent corrosion in chemical / saline atmospheres.
Normal plastic non-conductive shackle re-engineered with a stainless steel metal insert. The 3PTP had a 5.0mm shackle diameter as standard which was more susceptible to breaking than the standard 6.0mm version on other brands. To enhance the cut / break resistance, we inserted a SS304 metal rod internally and molded over with a hard bearing PA6 nylon end to end.
Colors were revamped from slightly darkish to a more brighter range thereby increasing visibility.
The individual box packing was redesigned with a transparent window allowing color and key number visibility without having to remove the padlock.

The Ford Mustang (S550) is the current and sixth generation of the iconic pony car. The Mustang GT continues to impress with the latest edition of the throaty 5.0-liter V8, now featuring an upgraded valvetrain and cylinder heads that help boost output to 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. A new intake manifold features charge motion-controlled valves to partially close off the port flow at lower engine speeds to increases the air charge for improved air-fuel mixing and, thus, better efficiency and idle stability. Purists who go for the V8 version, instead of the base model with the turbo inline-four, are definitely performance enthusiasts. Many of these GT owners won’t stop there, though, and look to the aftermarket for mods that will enhance the Mustang’s naturally impressive engine.
One of the first mods many Mustang owners do is replace the restrictive factory air intake system with an upgraded aftermarket version. By swapping out the OE system, you can help the 5.0-liter V8 breathe more air and cooler air that will enhance its overall efficiency and performance. The result means a faster throttle response, higher power figures, and an overall more enjoyable driving experience. Not to mention, a new air intake system can really add a bit of oomph to your engine bay and can add a bolder sound to your ride as well. Features of Mechanical Engineering Service
In Reverse Engineering Services, reverse engineering (often abbreviated as RE) is used to summarize the process of rebuilding an existing object. By designing an object from scratch, the engineer creates a design specification and the drawings that make up the item.
In contrast, in reverse engineering, design engineers start with the final product and work in the opposite direction to achieve the product's design specifications. In the process, relevant information about design concepts and manufacturing methods is discovered.
The reverse engineering process begins with obtaining the information on the dimensions of the object through a 3d Modeling Services.
Reverse engineering acquires 3D position data from a point cloud. There are many ways to collect valuable dimensional information about a product, but having an accurate 3D measurement system is critical. The accuracy of the captured data affects the quality and deviation of the reverse-engineered model compared to the original model.
Physical Digital uses the globally recognized GOM 3D structured light scanning system to provide accurate, traceable, and reproducible measurements. The captured surface data is transmitted to the internal design team to establish the original design intent of the object.

Reverse engineering applications
Reverse engineering allows you to duplicate an existing part by capturing the physical dimensions, characteristics, and material properties of the component. There are several reasons to reverse engineer an object:
Legacy Components - Many components designed and manufactured a few years ago do not have 2D drawings or 3D CAD data to reproduce the object. Here, reverse engineering is a crucial way to obtain information to copy a product.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Issues: If an OEM goes down or loses design measurements, reverse engineering will provide critical product information to continue manufacturing that object. It also includes Cad Drafting Service
Design development, test, and component analysis - Reverse engineering allows you to quickly capture 3D products in digital form and redesign or analyze them to improve design iterations.

Competitive Analysis - Any organization can reverse competitive engineer products.
Antique and custom objects: If there is no information about the dimensions of a purpose except the physical element itself, the fastest and most reliable way to reproduce it is reverse engineering. If the shape of the product is organic (rather than standard shapes like cuboids and cylinders), it is challenging to design in CAD because it is challenging to get the CAD model to come acceptably close to the engraved model. There are cases.
Digital Archive - Capture 3D scans of museum works and historical relics and reverse engineer it if future damage to objects or duplication of some of the items is required. You can keep the resulting CAD data.
Cost-effective and on-time way to build models and products
Another benefit of reverse engineering is the compression of the product development cycle. In a highly competitive global marketplace, manufacturers are continually striving to reduce lead times to bring new products to the market. With reverse engineering, you can quickly capture your 3D model in digital form, reconstruct it if necessary, or export it with a variety of manufacturing methods, such as additive manufacturing, vacuum casting, and CNC machining.

Entry 11 - Substance painter
Now that I had my high and low poly variants of the artefact I then imported them into Substance Painter. And per the result below:
The next step for this to continue building is to bake my high and low poly models together. During this time I had a problem with the back of the shield because I extruded the edges which then led to an overlap of the back panel and the extruded polygons which was made to make the space to get the handle in. To fix this I went back to both of my High and low poly models and deleted the original back faces that was made with the cylinder and replaced them with a polygon disc. When placing this in I made sure to have it rotated the correct way to make sure the face normals was correct. I further then reimported and re-baked the shield.
To begin with my artefact I wanted to make a strong foundation for what I was building on and of course I chose a bronze material for the main bulk of the shield while also adding gold trimmings to certain pieces of the shield.
Much like the front of the shield began with a strong bronze material for the main shield while also applying it to the handle and reinforcements.
Here I added additional material to make it like the olden style of shields. On top of this I added a dirt material to mess it up a little like it has been used in a war.
The next step was to start adding dents and engravings to what is portrayed at battle damage. I liked making the wear on this weapon as it make me think of where most likely the damage would have happened and where it would've come from. This was made with a edge damage filter while applying the specific damage with a black mask.
Now that the back was partly done I went back to the front of the shield. Here I began to start to roughen up the from with dirt and digs and the odd edge damage.
Much the same as the sun patter, I then roughened up the edges of the centre.
Following up on the wear side, I then added the front wear and tear for the shield, this was predominantly matching the back damage I added, however I did add some that would portray and strike only to the front of the shield. This was once again done with the edge damage filter and applied with the black mask and painted on.
Now the shield is worn down I chose to add a some additional materials to the shield. This is a steel clearcoat to give the edges a bit more of a pop and to make my pattern stand out.
Here I added another layer of bronze and but this time I added a tinge of brown to make it darker around the edge. This was applied with the brush once again after applying a black mask. In this instance I had to use the fill tool and paint each polygon individually.
In this step I added some dirt to the mid centre of the shield. It is quite minor but I felt less is more in some cases. This then gave me a bit of a more used feeling to the shield. This was done with a damaged gold material with a dirt mask.
Here I continued to add more wear to the front middle of the shield. In this instance I added a wooden material which then I added a mask to.
For my penultimate task I wanted to add some form of welding to the wrist braise and so I too an iron material, added a dark steel on top on a low opacity just to give it a darker ting and more metal look and then began to punch in my welding across the metal reinforcements and the metal wrist braise itself.
The final step was to add some war blood. This just used the dripping blood material and some adjusting of the materials attributes to get it in the right quantity.
And this is how it came out

The Texas Navy and the Battle of Campeche
A False Start In 1841, Yucatan declared independence from Mexico. It would remain independent for the next 7 years, but not without struggle. Mirabeau Lamar was sympathetic to the Republic of Yucatan, and in 1841 he allowed the ailing Texas Navy to be hired by the rebels in Yucatan to harry the Mexican ships. The ships sailed December 13th, 1841, only a couple of weeks after Sam Houston had become president and, apparently, missing the notice that Houston had called them back. Upon hearing of the order, Commodore Moore hurried the ships back to Galveston. But Houston had no interest in the Navy and even less in the struggles of the fledgling Republic of the Yucatan: when Congress approved funds to re-outfit the Navy, Houston refused. The fleet languished in New Orleans. In February of 1843, Col. Martín Peraza of the Republic of the Yucatan arrived in New Orleans with funds to pay for the Texas Navy's help. In defiance of Houston's orders, Moore outfitted his ship and set to sea.

Texas ships Austin (left, [source]) and Wharton (right, [source]). Public Domain.
First Engagment On April 30th, they had their first major run in with the Mexican Navy, two steamers, the Moctezuma and the Guadalupe, which resulted in a retreat by the Texan brigs, Austin and Wharton, but no major damage. While the steamers blockaded the port, Moore took the time to upgrade his guns for a rematch.
The Battle of Campeche On May 16th, the Mexican and combined Texan and Yucatecan Navies engaged again. Despite the superior technology of the Mexican steamers and unfavorable weather conditions for the Texan sailing ships, the rebels managed to fight the Mexicans to a draw. This is the only time in recorded history that sailing ships have fought steamers to a draw. The Mexican steamers retreated, breaking the blockade of Campeche and giving the Republic of the Yucatan - and the Republic of Texas - some breathing room.

Portrait of Commodore Moore in the Moore County, Texas Courthouse. Pirates! Commodore Moore was not so lucky. About this time word reached him that Houston had offered a reward for the two brigs, calling their crew pirates. Moore returned the Texas fleet to Galveston, where he and his men were hailed as heroes. Moore demanded a trial to answer Houston's charges and was fully exonerated. However, Moore, and much of the rest of the Navy, spent years trying to get paid for their time and work. It wasn't until Texas joined the US that the sailors were finally paid back pay. Moore would continue his quarrel with Houston basically until the ends of their lives.
The Fate of the Yucatan As for the Republic of the Yucatan, it didn’t last much longer. In late 1843, Mexico recognized the Yucatan’s right to full autonomy and generally considered it a self-governing part of Mexico. In 1845, the Mexican Congress would revoke that right, declaring it unconstitutional. The Yucatan would again declare independence in 1846, but internal divisions would see it returned to Mexico in 1848, though it should be noted that in many ways the indigenous Maya of the Yucatan have never completely given up fighting for independence.

Story on a Gun The Battle of Campeche might be familiar to collectors of antique guns for its commemoration on both the 1851 and 1861 Colt Navy Revolvers. The Texas Navy placed a large order with Colt for his Patterson Revolvers, an order that saved his business and provided his first big success. In gratitude, Colt had an engraving of the battle placed on the cylinders of the revolvers, which has led to their designation as Navy Revolvers. In the copy of the engraving above, you can see Commodore Moore’s signature in the bottom right.

Unit 5 and 7 Task 3 Evaluation
Inspiration
My main inspiration for my level design was World of Warcraft because I wanted to make a quest-based game. From the beginning I knew I wanted to create a dark forest theme, so I started by playing WoW and going to Darkshire, as I knew this location was based around a forest area. After going here, I decided to screenshot some images to later use as inspiration for my level and the assets in it. Personally, I prefer either RPG’s or FPS games so I knew I wanted to base mine around something like that. As my knowledge of Unity is not strong I decided to go with an RPG as I thought this would be easier as a starting game. My second source of inspiration came from the Viking era and Norse Mythology, as I have a passion for this and wanted to incorporate it into my game. The title of my game refers to Floki who was the first Norseman to sail to Iceland. I felt like this would be a good name for my main character as you have to experience an adventure with him as you complete the quests. I also wanted to add a portal into the game which would have had runes engraved into the stones around it. Due to my knowledge of Maya being quite little and having software issues, made it hard to create this so I will add it to my FMP. This means I can spend more time perfecting it.
Planning and Designs
From the beginning of the planning stage I thought of an idea and stuck to that as close as possible. I had saved reference images for similar levels designs I wanted to make, and certain materials I wanted to use on my terrain. I found the design stage quite hard as I am artistically challenged and struggled to represent my ideas through drawings. It was easier for me to just go with it and change parts of the game if needed. With me using a first-person camera it allowed me to skip out on having to design a character which is beneficial to me as it allowed me to spend more time creating my level. I had originally planned to have skulls as a quest item, however with Maya being down and not having enough knowledge to create this asset I decided to go with mushrooms from the asset store. Going into this design stage I already knew I wanted to use this level in my FMP, so I had predesigned what I was going to add in the later stages of development. I knew I wanted to add a portal into the level however, I wanted to spend more time perfecting it and creating a world for it to go to and knew I would not finish it in time for the first deadline. Finally, I had planned to create an NPC wisp that would give you quests, and then you would have to hand items back into him once you have found them. However, like my portal design I did not receive much help when trying to create the wisp therefore had to keep this a blank cylinder that I can later change when I have learned how to create my desired character.
Scripts
I had previously saved some scripts from when we had messed around with Unity to get used to the software in the first few weeks of the course. This helped when creating my level as I already had some scripts to hand. However, there was a lot of script I had not seen before, so I had to ask for help when trying to code certain movements. In my game I wanted my character to pick up mushrooms so I had to ask for help coding this. The teacher explained the code to me and I then saved it for future reference to use in future projects. I wanted to create a menu for my game and I knew that one of my peers had already done this. I asked them how they coded it and they helped me create my menu with added code to open and close the game.
Time Management
My time management was not great at the beginning of task 3 as I was not used to the software, so I spent a few lessons just messing around to create the floor plan I wanted. To begin with I struggled as I could not visualize my game with the blank canvas I had. However, as I began to add more textures and assets I was able to picture it better. Everything started coming together with the game and I was able to get it done in the time I had. Due to having software issues with unity we were given an extension so we could get our levels completed to a better standard. This helped a lot as it removed some stress of not getting it completed on time. Overall my time management was a lot better towards the end of my task 3 deadline and I was able to hand everything in at a good standard before it was due.
Issues Faced
The first issue I faced when creating my game was that the software was down meaning I was unable to physically create my game without the software. During this time I just collected reference images and did some small sketch ideas of what I wanted to add in my game. Another issue I faced was that some of the assets I wanted to use were not on the asset store. This led to me changing some of my ideas as I am not confident enough using Maya to create my own assets. The main ideas stayed the same it was just background details I was unable to add. When I feel more confident using modelling software I can add signposts and other assets I could not find. A final issue I faced was that the player was unable to look up or down. I had checked the script and could not find an issue so had to ask for help fixing this. It was easily fixed by the teacher removing and re-adding the script so in future if I face a similar problem I know how to fix it.
What I’d Change/Add
The first thing I would add to my level is a portal as I had already started creating this asset. I was unable to texture it without help and this was not given prior to the deadline date so I will be using this in my FMP. I would like to script this so it takes you to another part of the map and I think this could be possible to do from my own knowledge, as I feel more confident with code now I have some saved for reference. I would also like thorns around the map which would hurt the player if walked into. I already have reference images and a rough idea of what I want these to look like. I would have to ask how to code this as I have not been taught how to remove health from a player. Another thing I would like to change is that the NPC cylinder was changed to the wisp I wanted to create. I have previously mentioned how I did not receive the help so hopefully by my FMP deadline I will have the knowledge to be able to do this. I would also like to add mobs to the map to add a sense of danger to the game. I am unsure of what mobs I would use so it is something I will think about so they can be added to a future project. Finally, I would like to add an abandoned village near the well to show life used to be in the forest and show an insight into the wisp’s lives. It would also make the map seem less empty if I added more assets to the game. These are all ideas I will try to change and add to my final project.
