So the idea from this au is basically just everyone’s roles are switched. Pretty simple.

Ada and Leon have swapped roles, Ada being a rookie cop and Leon being a mysterious merc for hire

Claire and Chris have swapped, Claire now being the older sibling in S.T.A.R.S. And Chris just being…. Some guy who ends up getting wound up in this all. Their dynamic is one of the ones that I’m looking forward to working on the most at the moment because I love Claire and desperately want to see more of her in any way I can.

Birkin and Wesker also switch places, which means during the plot of RE2 Chris is protecting Jake instead of Sherry. This means later on Sherry is going to be… kind of jaded and edgy but honestly she’s still going to be a total cutie pie.

Jill and Carlos are also going to swap, and I’m definitely excited to see what relationship Carlos and Claire are going to have now that they’ll be partners. Plus any excuse to just… have more Jill aus is more than welcome to take up real estate in my brain.

I started watching the new live action Resident Evil series on Netflix, amd while it is VERY far from the source material, it's story is still VERY good.

I'm not done with it, but so far I like the MC Jade Wesker. The sister relationship between Jade and Billie is quite nice, they work well together.

The look of the zombies is great, and Lickers make an appearance!! I adore the Lickers from RE, they are my favorite creature, and they look so good!!

They also keep dropping easter eggs from the games, and I've been having a bunch of fun pointing them out.

Now, I feel that a lot of the problems people will have with the series is that it's not the same as the games, thats usually what I see, but it's still a really good series so far!

Finishing resident evil netflix as im writing this. I'm gonna be talking about spoilers so if you read this be warned

Overall, its a great zombie show. Not the best resident evil media out there. IMO, this is the worst re adaptation. But I still find it kinda fun. The performances are fucking awesome the actors nailed it! What really threw me off was the subtitles. The subtitles said "younger billie" which told me that she was still alive in the future :/

One way I think they messed up and why people won't like it is the creators said that it was canon with the games. And its really not timeline wise. But once you say that people will go into your show with that expectation. They do nod at canon with a lisa cameo, og wesker dying in a volcano, and mention of the original raccoon city. But that's it. Otherwise not canon especially timeline wise with the newest games

Thinking of it like the show is its own thing, like the 6 movies, its not that bad IMO. The giant monsters/animals where awesome. The hordes of zombies where cool to watch. The twists where fun to watch. The characters have a lot of depth and I can see nearly everyone's side during arguments. Mainly with jade and billie. Both of them are very well written.

My biggest complaint is they flip between the past and future so frequently. You can always tell what time you're in, but the flips are sometimes every 5 minutes or less. That slows down the farther in the show you get. And the last 2 episodes? Personally, I think that's where this show shines the most. It feels a little more like resident evil. I think the last 2 episodes are by far the best but it takes a while to get there

Also bert fucking rules. He carries the last 2 episodes. Overall, unless you're super picky about your adaptations, I say give it a try. As someone who genuinely enjoyed the other re adaptations I find this one fun, but still probably the worst. Idk my expectations with re adaptations are super low and this is watchable and fun so its a good for me!

lol okay i (surprisingly) couldn't pick just one so here's my top contenders and my reasoning for them.

heal the scars and change the stars (Piers/Leon, getting back together, near death for Leon but what else is new :'D) lmao this one came to me in a dream, i literally woke up all "okay then" and had to then work it into a bit more coherent thing, but it ate at me until i did so. but yeah didn't see it coming, my subconsciousness cooked it up from somewhere lol.

also life healed like a wound (we will be alright) (Piers/Leon, breaking up and getting back together) was a similar thing, I woke up one morning with the breakup scene seared into my brain and I just had to write it. but of course I couldn't let them be unhappy so i also had to fix it! i thought i'd write a couple of fics for this pairing, but somehow it ended up taking over my heart in a storm. now this series has over 100k words and i've written like a hundred fics of the pair so :'D we all see how that turned out.

my jaded heart is yours to poison with your flame (Krauser/Leon, DC-ish) was also something similar, I played Darkside Chronicles with my brother and I thought I'd just write one quick fic to get the pairing out of my system :'D surprise, lmao, to this day it remains one of my top fave pairings :'D

there are others, too, that I never thought I'd write but somehow did. the Chris/Wesker smut, it's not a pairing I'd be particularly into but the fic demanded to happen, or the Adam/Leon companion piece for Tir's fic that I legit still don't understand where it came from :'D, or the monsterfucking series considering I thought I'd forever be too chickenshit to write any of it, or the Krauser's back series I firmly thought would be just one fic but turned into a trilogy :'D

or last chance garage (ot3 retirement fic lol) that was supposed to only be a quick 2k at most, but turned into 8k somehow before letting me go. not complaining, i think it turned good, but it wasn't exactly the intention lol.

2. the angsty answer is that the ones i desperately want to do well never seem to, and then the ones that actually do well are some random things i just threw out there lol. the less angsty answers are:

outside of the RE fandom I'm legit surprised that nobody's perfect (TOG, mostly a group fic tbh) got so popular, it's a feelgood "I think I'm funny" kind of fic lmao and it's got almost twice the kudos to the next most kudosed fic of mine. i mean it was fun to write, it still makes me smile, but i thought some of the more serious fics i put much more thought into would be better received :'D not complaining, it's nice that the feelgood fic did well. another one i'm surprised about is the super old kpop fic (Resurgence) that I reposted on ao3 on request, because holy shit i've never gotten that many comments ever. not even when I was actively in that fandom.

in the RE fandom I'm mostly surprised that now drunk on lust I drown in you (forever within I'm lost in you) (Chris/Leon, get together pwp) was as popular as it was. it was supposed to be a quick short pwp, it ran away from me, and i guess that's a good thing :'D also my first fic in this fandom, we didn't know how to fly so high (burned down before we reached the sky) (Chris/Leon, getting back together, idk what else random tropes), i... when I posted the first chapter it got exactly one comment and I thought "oh well, might as well finish anyway" and it was supposed to be my first and last RE fic. but looking back at it now? it's accumulated quite a nice amount of feedback over the years, which is nice :)

also the Leon has a son, surprise! -series did surprisingly well lol especially since the second part has an OC-centric pairing.

3. short answer is none, really, because i'm in general always happy when I get something done and finish a story! it's such a nice feeling of accomplishment when i can look at a complete fic and let it be free.

but I suppose that when I'll finally wrap up the self-indulgent series it'll be a bittersweet moment and i'll be sad to let it go. although right now i've been stalling with it anyway. feelings are complicated. but yeah, that series has been a part of my life for so long it'll require some mourning when it's gone.

So, I watched Netflix's live action titled "Resident evil", and I've got things to say.

Short version: if you can ignore while watching that it's called Resident Evil (which shouldn't be a challenge since there is literally nothing "Resident Evil" about it aside from a few characters' names and the company's name) and fast forward past all the dumb teen drama, it's not a terrible show. But if you expect it to be RE, oh, you're gonna have a bad time.

Okay, so, first off: spoilers, obviously.

Let's start with Wesker. He has been race-swapped and turned into a family man (well, one of the Weskers is a family man anyway, we later find out they're clones and the real one died in a volcano, at least something was kept from the canon). This is the dumbest thing they could've done. We're talking about a character who has decades worth of canon, why bring him in at all if you're just gonna turn him into someone unrecognizable? They could've chosen any other character, they could've WRITTEN A WHOLE NEW CHARACTER, they could've easily even named the character Wesker because it's canon that there were a lot of Wesker-kids. But no, they had to take the iconic bad guy and ruin him, which is a good and quick way to piss off RE-fans. What really, really grinds my gears about it is the fact that the character is actually a good character. He's not a Wesker, but he would've made an excellent original character, which brings us to what I said in the beginning; had this show been called anything other than "Resident Evil", it would've had a chance of being a decent enough zombie-apocalypse-show (those are never very good so the bar is rather low but still), now it's just going to be hated by anyone who has ever enjoyed Resident Evil.

Then there's the main character, Jade. Everything that goes wrong in the show goes wrong because she is selfish and stupid. At least she gets called out on it in the final episode, so I presume the writers were aware of the character's flaws. And that kinda works, she's an unlikeable selfish moron, but her being that way serves a purpose and shows that hey, in the apocalypse, it's probably only those types who survive. HOWEVER, if you're a selfish moron, you should bring something positive to the table as the main character. She does not. She just gets people killed and survives with the power of dumb luck. If they'd made her a skilled survivalist, if they'd made her a little evil (like she survives because she feeds someone slower than herself to a zombie), if they'd given any actual reason WHY she's still alive when those more skilled than her keep dying around her, if they’d tied in her selfishness with her surviving, I could've let it slide, I could've said "this is who she is and why she's still alive". But no, she's just selfish and annoying and brings nothing to the table beyond the drama that stems from her idiocy (like that time she brought a zombie home and did a shitty job of tying it up and it ended up getting loose and killed a pregnant woman -this is a prime example of her idiocy and a prime example of horrible, terrible, bad writing in this show because that's what it was, just terrible writing).

And finally...and this annoys me more than it probably should...WHY IS THE BOSS-LADY'S WIFE'S HAIR LIKE THAT??? If this was a conscious decision made by the hair and make up department, whoever decided it should be fired, out of a cannon and into a volcano. If it's the actress's actual haircut, same thing, because the person in charge of hair and make up should've told her to wear a wig or something, because my God, I could give myself a better haircut with a butterknife. Overall, there is nothing in this show that makes it Resident Evil. If you change the names of the characters, the company, and the location, and erase a few really terrible and awkward RE-references (that were clearly desperately shoved in to give the fans SOMETHING even remotely related to the RE-franchise), it could be any generic zombie apocalypse-show. AND THAT'S WHAT IT SHOULD'VE BEEN TO BEGIN WITH! But no, Netflix had to once again shoot itself in the kneecap by fucking up a beloved franchise and the RE-fans once again get nothing but the middle finger.

I did have a good laugh in the episode where the mentally unstable Wesker-clone escapes and pretends to be the daughters’ dad. That was funny. But two minutes of funny doesn’t make up for 8 episodes of bullshit.

If you like zombie apocalypse shows and don't know anything about Resident Evil, you might enjoy this, but if you're an RE-fan, you're gonna have a bad time.

I watched the live action show for RE (fighting for my life to get it full screen and subtitled) and it could have been good like Lance Riddick was great but why Wesker? of all the characters. there was so many bits that I liked but then it went out the window because the characters made stupid choices (Jade seeing a zombie handcuffed to a pole rip its hand off to get at her also Jade ties a zombie up by the wrists with worn easily breakable rope needless to say zombie got loose)

basically whilst I saw some good bits in it the majority was just a weird fever dream and not rewatchable outside of a few random scenes

my kneejerk reaction to seeing the announcement was "the evil has been defeated"

and you know that meme where the lady is trying a drink is basically my feelings but the maybe it wasn't so bad thing was on its last legs then I read about how the creators desire to bring Lady D into it somehow and just went NOPE

literally i’ll never understand how ppl can be like “it wasn’t THAT bad!!” when from its conception it was in fact doomed to be horrible. and then it kept getting worse every episode. and THEN the creators were like “actually we want to bring in claire and jill” which is bad enough - stay away from them - but to want to also bring in DIMITRESCU? when first of all she’s long fucking dead by 2022 and second it wouldn’t make any sense narratively even if she was alive? god i’m so glad it got cancelled <3

the jack black lookin’ dude from umbrella toward the end seems out of place. like to the point of figuratively breaking the fourth wall…he must be a stand in for the writer.

ok ok so i don’t really listen to the soundtrack that much (even tho the ost is so good ik the sound design is amazing i just don’t listen to music that much 😭) but i DO listen to saudade from re2 remake pretty often. i also rly like the save room theme from remake!

ONE omg ok. i’m gonna say jill valentine! my favorite game w her in it is remake :3 i think she’s incredibly intelligent and i adore the way she’s written in remake- like she’s way out of her depth and she knows it so she reacts accordingly. like how she’s so clearly suspicious of barry pretty early on but makes the conscious choice to trust him until he gives her an obvious reason not to. and how as soon as she finds out his family was being threatened she forgave him, and how she reacted to wesker’s betrayal, and how caring she is.

and then in 3, the way she’s characterized is soooooo good. like how this isn’t her first time dealing with this and you can tell she’s more jaded from the mansion and the treatment she got from the rpd afterwards, but she’s still prioritizing protecting others like she always did. i think the way she deals with the ubcs is also so good, bc you can tell she doesn’t trust them but is choosing to work with them and put her anger towards umbrella aside in order to get through the night. i just think she’s such an admirable character and so fuckin cool

there’s uh…… a lot of things that irk me abt re

first thing- the sexualization of ada wong. i feel like she’s obviously meant to be the ‘femme fatale’ type character, but having one of the only visibly asian characters be the sexually promiscuous one is pretty damaging. i love her to death, and i think her characterization is excellent, but they do lean into stereotypes a bit heavily.

secondly i think they could handle the plot better lol. like there’s a lot of retconning and adding old lore in new games- i think they’re a lot too focused on bringing everything together when they should just leave old games be save for references (yeah this is about spencer having gone to the village and worked with miranda that was a bizarre thing to throw in)

ONE MORE THING re2 remake. i wish they connected the campaigns more!!!! and like had them be more interconnected and meet up and have leon interact with sherry more……

So I read up on more of the Resident Evil Netflix series and on paper some of the stuff sounds interesting but at the same time it kind of, doesn’t make any sense?

Like the plot is gonna follow Billy and Jade Wesker who moved to an industrialized New Raccon City, and begin to uncover a secret by their father that could endanger the whole world, except that at the same time the series is gonna deal with a fast forward timeline that deals with Jade all grown up living in a world where there’s less than 13 million humans in the world and the rest 6 Billion of the population are T-virus infected.

And the plot legit iust sounds like a rethread of the one from the movies, which I have no idea why you’d want to do that given how infamous they are, except that more convoluted cuz it deals with non-linear storytelling and I’m ABSOLUTELY sure the only reason they made the kids Wesker’s was to justify them having powers like Alice in the RE Movies, cuz otherwise they could’ve used Sherry with absolutely no issues and try to develop the relationship with the Birkin’s more.
