Why do you like HS more than HSR? That's pretty interesting knowing most rc players dont really like Vicky and the story. And what do you think about Vicky and Lane as a MC? Which one do you like better and why? I saw the majority of readers liking Lane more because how smart and introspective she is, meanwhile you think she's no different than Vicky. Why?

Yeah I like HS more. I didn't know most players prefered Lane from Vicky tbh. Not many people like Vicky to start with due to her stupidity (That I find funny) so I just assumed the ratio was rather equal. As an MC i prefer Selena from Arcanum over these two.

I like Vicky simply because she makes me laugh. I don't want a relatable MC. This gal is not relatable at all in any capacity. I mean I don't wear dresses. I just like to see her reactions to every problem is just the worse solution everytime. Girl got an Art degree and is saving the multiverse people this is absolutely hilarious.

Lane and her both got the depression squad on lock (HS2 Vicky I mean on Composure path) , both are fashionnistas and both are kind of the choosen ones which is normal they are MC's. Lane monologue really brings the story alive in HSR because without it. Well...Yeah. Vicky has barley any thoughts but that's because HS1 and HS2 are dialogue focused instead of storytelling through the MC's eyes.

Vicky gets chased by every men for no reason ? Well sorry to burst some bubbles but Lane does get chased by every man in the story too. It's a romance story. It is super evident when you don't interact with Cain and Dmitry you talk to them almost 24/7 even if you try to have an hostile relationship meanwhile i gotta fight to even talk to Anna and Mimi respectively.

But again i am an F/F player so the personality of both MC's aren't even as horny as everyone complaining about. Feels chill which doesn't bother me as an asexual gal.

Vicky starts to be clingy towards Mimi in HS2, which is reciprocated. They genuinely feel like a couple going through some real bullshit together, in HS1 friends with benefits who slowly realises they are gay for each others. (My shock is how chill Vicky is with Mimi's former crush on Lucifer and how it's never adressed again. 10/10) Bisexual representation babyyyyy. The Bar was in sub-hell and we flew above.

And for HSR the romance route with Anna does not feel like a romance at all since Lane keeps going on and on on her lack of understanding to her attraction to women. Which kills me because bitch it's season 2.

Meanwhile Vicky got over it...fast as fuck. Like so fast it is a tad incredible. No internalized homophobia or anything girl went "I guess I love her."

The true problem with HSR is not only the female LI is sidelined which is fine by the way i am used to it. But I am not getting attached to any of the characters at all despite trying. Yeah Noah is cool but. He had 2 interactions with Lane, 3 actually. After 2 seasons. Kira except for her stabbing attempt do not talk at all to Lane unless you initiate the contact and even that it's super short. The Tatoo guy says his backstories and that's it. Greg. Is Greg. Cain is...Mysterious but in a "I hate talking to people" way not in a sexy way or entertaining. I don't get what the fuck he is doing 3/4 of the time except his job. Pigeon. And the angel gal are just here for plot exposure. Dmitry gets very boring very quickly if it's friendship. The story lacks "interactions"

In HS. Even if you don't interact with the characters, they talk to each others. A lot. I can tell you right now the statut of each and every relationship in HS. Yes even Austie and Leelo. The two bitches we saw like 5 times total I can tell you, Austie is "friends" with Mimi, Sex Friends with Lucifer, Ennemy of Vicky (one-sided as fuck) , Ennemy of Rebecca, Situationship with her dad.

Leelo, Favorite student of Fencio, Crush on Dino (One sided), Ennemy of Vicky (One sided). I think she has the worse relationships with her parents due to her speech beforr her death.

And mind you I didn't care about Leelo at all but I managed to analyze with the dialogues where she stood in the story.

Now let's do that with HSR. Shall we ?

Kira, Relationships : Noah colleague (No interaction), Pileon Suspecious Colleague, Anthea (No interaction) , Tatoo Guy (3 interactions) Colleague, Cain (No interaction), Dmitry Chef of the squad Absolutely a crush. Greg (No interaction) Colleague, Anna Colleague/Friend, Lane Colleague/Ennemy (one sided, Lane's monologue is not very clear about her stand ?)

See this shit ? This is a character that was introduced in episode 1. How comes ?? I could do the whole squad but this is how it looks mostly. Anna is the only one with friendly interactions and Lane is the one most hated generally.

So yes. HS is better then HSR. For that regard 100%. Now the plot points can be argued and talked upon, but for these regard I am not hearing anyone out.

The different reactions Dino and Lucifer have when faced with opposition against their romances are interesting. In basic terms, Dino is angry/offensive and Lucifer is sad/defensive.

Dino

When it comes to jealousy, Dino gets furious. He can’t stand if MC is flirting with others (and being flirted with by others.) It fucks with him so bad. I’ll never forget how he confesses to trying to beat the shit outta Luci if you had been flirting with both of them.

In most other situations, Dino is a calm person. Reasonable, thoughtful, merciful—the perfect picture of an Angel. But when it comes to romance and the potential loss of it, his emotions overtake him with anger and bitterness as his tools of attack. To the point where it can be alarming.

Luci

When it comes to jealousy, Lucifer gets “sad” in that everything is internalized. While Dino gets upset when there are real, tangible “opponents”, Lucifer is only upset in the face of the abstract. Of what he believes MC deserves. He actually doesn’t care if she’s flirting with others or not because he is so conscious of how he is with her. Later in his route, Lucifer apologizes a LOT for his early behavior, which while needed, also revealed that he is as fragile as glass.

In usual situations, he is the emotional, raging bull, the impulsive hothead—the perfect picture of a Demon. But when it comes to romance, he is reserved, hesitant, cautious. His emotions overtake him, but instead of offense, he closes off and sticks to defense. To the point where his self imposed isolation can be insufferable.

Another good contrast for the ways they display love and possession is how they address their fathers. Of course there’s a lot of nuance for the relationships both characters have with their fathers, but I’m just gonna focus on them regarding MC.

When discussing his and MC’s relationship with Fencio, Dino is aggressive and threatening. Not in a physical sense, but in an emotional one. He meets Fencio’s gaze head on, proudly declares his relationship with MC, and threatens to cut all contact with his father. It is an argument, with Fencio pleading for his son to “find reason” while Dino refuses to back down.

When Satan meets MC and the two quickly get off on the wrong foot (does Satan even have a “right foot”?), Lucifer is aggressive, but defensive. He stands in between the two of them, lies about their relationship, and not-so-subtly begs for Satan to move on. It is not so much an argument, but more of a plea, with Lucifer urging his father to leave while Satan refuses to give two shits.

And I just think it’s wonderfully interesting that they contrast like this. It would’ve been SO easy for RC to have Dino, the Angel, be the “defensive” romance. The cautious one, the one who is secretly fragile and focuses more on self defense then hurting others. It would’ve been SO easy for them to have Lucifer, the Demon, be the “angry” romance. The reckless one, the one who rages and argues with others when the relationship feels threatened, and focuses more on offense than protective measures.

I’m really glad HS didn’t give these two characters the “expected” behaviors when it comes to their routes, and instead allowed them to have duality like this.

HS2 first impressions

(spoilers from both books and complaining)

((This isn't as coherent as I would've liked it to be but I've spend too much time writing it already))

So after getting my ducks in order the beginning of HS2 wasn't really a bad experience, even though I still have a lot to complain about.

First of all, the MC is just not what I would've liked her to be after 10 years and like 2 consecutive wars. She still comes off as hotheaded and stuck in her own ways at times, which isn't what I want from a +30 year old high ranked immortal, especially from one who considers herself a "leader" (c'mon now). It gives off the impression that, even though she was basically Heaven's main weapon some time ago, getting a cozy spot on the Council didn't push her to get better. You can't possibly be in such a high position for such a long time and not get a better and less sensitive attitude (sure, there can be something said about the amount of trauma Vicky suffered in her Academy days which probably had an impact in her growth and is the reason for her nightmares but I'm not a psychologist, I'm just here to complain).

This isn't the worst thing (and my expectations are high because it's Alice and RC keeps creating top tier MCs) but it annoys me how small the development is after such a long time. It's not a good look, it's a look that makes it seem like she literally only got the place on the Council after graduation because she had been useful (which is somehow true, considering your average immortal had to spend years climbing the hierarchy), and that isn't completely bad unless she's not developing any skills afterwards. I do understand that she accepted that she had darkness inside her, she has power yada yada yada, but... why didn't she look into it more? Malbonte always kept talking about getting his power back from her, so why didn't anyone, not even Rebecca, look into this at some point? I don't mean immediately after winning the war, but some time down the line.

I will say that I might be too quick to judge (we started off with solitary confinement and relationship breaking) and that maybe I'm too harsh, too soon, and Vicky will prove herself in the future. I'm sure she will (proving herself is like one of her most redeeming qualities) but for know... she's not impressive. She's literally back to square one, no power, no status. Actually, she's worse now.

Now, returning to the power swap moment done by Plague, I really liked that. Not the part about how the MC became powerless, but that it was really the moment of "omg this is actually the villain". The fact that it was so easy to take away MC's only hope is horrifying but it also leaves her completely vulnerable. There's nothing there for her to use anymore.

Speaking of Plague, she's so annoying. I can't even try to respect the prowess because she's so shit. She is powerful, but the fact that she's an unknown danger and sadistic contributes more to her scary factor than her actual powers. I can't deal with villains like her, their good looks just aren't enough. Not even gonna get into the leashes scene or how creepy she is with the men, she definitely can't take refusals. I dislike that in bad guys. She's also not as bad as she likes to think she is, her power is fuelled (at least partially) by people's desperation. Her presence makes me wanna scratch my skin off.

I don't know what the plan is with characters like Loy and Andy. I only had Andy alive just for him to die immediately in HS2 so...

The rest of the LIs are as I would expect after probably being tortured for at least 3 months. I'd be really surprised if there's any genuine betrayal happening, cause I only see them as being beaten (not necessarily in a literal sense) into reluctant submission. Maybe characters like Fencio and Torendo were willing, but I doubt any of the others wanted or expected this when they went with Plague. I have no explanation for why she saw Dino as not loving the MC anymore but I'm sure there will be one.

Their new looks are superior tho, at least. And I really like how the relationship between the MC and her long time partner is being presented. Regardless of who the player was romancing, their relationship during school ran pretty hot because it was forbidden and dangerous: sneaking around, getting in trouble because of the ban, worrying about death for 3 seasons straight and so on. It's not surprising that after so many years things not only settle down drastically but they see each other more clearly. Being closed off isn't sexy anymore, it causes real tension, working late puts a strain on the relationship, being on different sides isn't exciting, it's exhausting. Real life gets in the way, they aren't college kids (who fight for their lives), they're adults who are responsible for many other people (Mimi for her students, Dino, MC and Luci for the people under them, Andy for his squad not anymore but whatever). Although it is sus how very little opening up happened in 10 years, it's expected and not surprising that the relationship turned out kinda meh.

I am curious if there will be other LIs. Part of me doubts it, there are already established romances, but idk.

The flashback in Mexico is... not that good. It isn't bad in the sense of visuals or writing, it just doesn't make sense, the four of them were never in a close friendship to the point where they'd just chill on earth. When would something like that even had happened? In season 1 of book 1 Lucifer wasn't really part of the team and idk why Dino would've agreed to go on vacation with him anyway, and in seasons 2 and 3 (in 3 more) there was a bunch of drama and wars and breaking people out of jail and being captured and training etc. WHEN did this holiday celebration happen? It couldn't have happened after defeating Malbonte, since they all graduated pretty fast and my Lucifer wasn't even alive (it makes even less sense for it to have happened after the MC sided with Malbonte🗿). It's just such a weird situation, the group was never the kind to have holidays together, even if we were to accept that Lucifer eventually warmed up to Dino enough for them to be buddies (that's not their relationship)

I have very high expectations from Rebecca and Mammon. Idk where Rebecca disappeared in chapter 2, cause I'm pretty sure no one said anything about her, only Mammon is confirmed to have ran away, so they're literally the only ones not captured (who we know exist, I don't know how many characters Plague resurrected).

The visuals in HS2 are great, no complaints there. It does seem like I've had more bad things to say than good things about the book but I am expecting abnormal levels of badassery in the future to make up for the humiliation and pain received so soon. There's just no way MC isn't gonna have her revenge on Plague. I'm really hoping she figures this powerless shit out, but I'm really liking the new partnership with Shephamalum, I'm 100% down to fill the empty vessel with god powers 🤞
