I think that Sins of London could be at least partially inspired by Penny Dreadful.

First of all there’s Victorian London with murders and supernatural monsters hidden in the shadow.

Then we meet a famous character like Sherlock Holmes and this gentleman whose name recalls Dorian Gray’s. In Penny Dreadful there are as well characters from traditional literature like Victor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Dracula, Dr Jekyll and so on.

Abigail has a strong connection with the supernatural world, like Vanessa Ives, and sees Mr Roger Evans as a paternal figure, as Vanessa does with Sir Malcolm Murray.

Mr Evans also has traveled a lot to Africa and has a strong connection with it, like Sir Murray. They both have a butler, respectively Alfred and Sembene.

MC (Irene) is hired by the two of them for her abilities, like Ethan Chandler, to help to reach their still unknown goal.

The monsters are people getting turned by some other monster and obey to a master, like Dracula and his vampires.

Also the scene where MC and the others visit that monster chained in the basement of Mr Evans’ mansion reminded me of Fenton locked up in the cellar of Sir Murray’s.

I don’t know if Romance Club said anything about this, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence😳

so i’ve noticed people seem to be struggling a little bit with finding stories on RC that they want, especially wlw. so i just thought this rec list might help!

stories that do a pretty good job of balancing out LIs and dont sideline wlw ones:

Love From Outer Space — LIs: miranda & ursula

Sophie’s Ten Wishes (MC is a canon wlw) — LIs: daisy & blake

Path of the Valkyrie — LIs: liod & unconfirmed vanadis

Rage of the Titans — LI: heather (however it’s worth noting MC canonly has an ex-boyfriend. however they’re broken up at the beginning of the story, so you can treat this as MC is a newly realized lesbian or is bisexual if you want)

stories where a man will annoyingly pine over your MC but you can ignore him and still just romance a woman:
