My favorite zombie series. Im not one to enjoy video game to movies sequels like Blood Rayne which is now in its 4th sequel. But whenever I see that Mila Jovovich and her husband are coming out with another Resident Evil I get excited. Not because of the zombies but because of the story and it came from a video game and sometimes I want to see how badly it is and how true to the story of the game they went.

And before you tell me they are not zombies but infected with a virus… I know this, but they turn zombies, and they run. They have evolved. Monsters do evolve. The creepiest thing I seen in these movies are the mutated dogs as well as the monsters and im always hoping this series will end on a good note but its always a cliffhanger.

Shout out to Army of the Dead which I just recently watched and enjoyed as well as Shaun of the Dead. Both are top tier movies and shouldn't be overlooked.

So I saw HYPNOTIC 2023. It was fine. It was exactly what I thought it was going to be, which is not a bad thing. It was a lot more Inception (2010) than I was expecting. Overall, the movie was an okay time. I'd watch another one when it made its way to streaming.

I've never heard of any of the companies that produced this movie. In fact, I did not know it was directed by Robert Rodriguez until the end credits. Did he leave Bad Robot? I was very upset that someone was trying to steal the bartender pee joke from Desperado (1995).

Also, these older women only came to see the movie because Ben Affleck has a bow legged sexy walk.

My only complaint and this is a SPOILER.

The Hypnotics is an organization of geniuses who think the world is their's for the taking, yet they couldn't figure out that Lev Dell Rayne was an anagram. I knew that when he pulled the picture out the fucking box.

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (307): Tue 17th Jan 2023

I couldn’t be bothered to get the bus to Newcastle to see Rashomon. I don’t know why I booked to go and see it so early. I will eventually go to see some movies at this independent cinema but getting out of bed early on my day off then a waiting in the cold at the bus stop followed by an hour long ride in a bus filled with my least favourite kind of people (living ones) was too much for me to bear.

Tonight’s episode of Hollyoaks featured the debut of Jemma Donaldson and damn she is one fine piece of ass. Made me completely forget that Verity even existed (it totally didn’t by the way. I’m now super pissed at the show for robbing me the chance of having these two hot chicks in the show at the same time). 

Her introduction centred around Tom telling Hunter and Prince they needed to find a new roommate by the end of the day or they would be getting kicked out. After trying unsuccessfully all day they return to the flat to find that Tom has already found two new roommates: Rayne and her friend Lacey and that he was just fucking with them because they left the flat a mess the previous evening. It’s so depressing to me that when I first started watching the show Tom was just slightly older than a toddler and now he is married and running his own property business. The way Tom has been written lately (a dork who thinks he’s a cool heart-throb) reminds me of Chris from Kenan and Kel. At the end of the episode Tom saw Hunter and Prince fighting over which of them should be allowed to pursue Rayne romantically and Tom, knowing that they previously fell out over a girl made them both agree not to pursue her for the sake of their friendship. I thought that the episode should have included a scene where Tom told Rayne that he made Prince and Hunter make a vow that neither of them would try and bang her as this would fit in with his dork character.

Before bed I watched twin zombie movies: Planet Terror and REC. Planet Terror was a lot of silly, over the top fun from Robert Rodriguez (director of Sin City) featuring a scene I never thought I’d see with Rose McGowan having her leg ripped off and replaced with a machine gun which she uses as a weapon. How she fires it is anyone’s guess but who the fuck cares? It’s not supposed to be deep or even make a lot of sense, it’s a throwback to when these kind of movies were commonplace in the seventies but back then the awkward, cartoonish style wasn’t being done ironically. I’ve known about REC for a while but never seen it until now and although has hints of a fuckload of zombie movies that came before it is still entertaining and at times unnerving. The film was made in a real life apartment complex which brilliantly adds to the sense of claustrophobia. Although the origin of the outbreak is hinted to be supernatural the entire movie still manages to retain a realistic feeling except of course for the obvious believability busting flaw that ruins all found footage films, namely the fact that it makes no sense for the cameraman to continue filming all the shot that’s happening instead of just putting it down and running. If the entire film was set in the dark then it would make sense for the cameraman to be filming nonstop because he’d need to for the torch in his camera and the night vision. The only found footage franchise that really fixes this issue is the Paranormal Activity films because they feature CCTV camera rather than handheld ones. I know that when done well found footage movies can be really enjoyable but for the most part it feels like you’re watching someone playing a computer game.

Film Review-BLOODRAYNE (2005)

BloodRayne was the first movie that actually made me pay attention to the creative team involved with the production. Uwe Boll had already completely failed with "House of the Dead" as far as video game adaptation films are concerned, but since I'm not particularly a fan of that series I just kind of accepted it as a bad movie and moved on. BloodRayne; on the other hand, was one of my favorite game series' of that era, so I needed to know who was responsible for this. Vampires are a popular film subject so a lot of people who saw this may not even have known that this was based on a video game and still even if you're ignorant to the source material, you can still see the massive amount of flaws in it.

First of all, if you have played the games then you know that between the first and the sequel, they talk about (Rayne) the main character's past but not really in depth. We know that her father is a powerful Vampire Lord and her mother was a mortal which makes her a Dhampir. Like most popular half-human/half vampire hybrids of course she becomes the enemy of her dark half. This film is an origin story for Rayne which is where I assume some of the blanks are supposed to be filled in, and parts of her past that were not depicted or even spoken about in the games would be layed out. That's not a bad idea on paper. There are a lot of characters in fiction that have fairly open-ended histories and someone with a vision for said characters could really make something of all the room they've been given to add their own touch, but Uwe Boll just isn't that creative or even skilled at what he does.

On the surface this should at least be a solid action film because BloodRayne is an action game. It's not. This film has some of the most poorly choreographed & undersold action scenes i've ever witnessed. As someone who holds up "action/adventure" as their favorite genre, I know that some times the stories are really lackluster because the exciting fight scenes or car chases or gun fights etc. are where a lot of the focus went. That's not the case here. I mean, some of these sequences are so bad it looks like they are still practicing or rehearsing them within the movie. Rayne being a vampire means she should have superhuman speed and strength, and in the games she's a total bad-ass who can switch seamlessly between her bladed weapons and her firearms and they didn't even try to capture any of that. Selene in Underworld is more like what Rayne should be.

This film doesn't do ANYTHING correctly. There isn't a saving grace.  It's not even one of those movies that are so bad that you can at least get a good laugh at it. The costume designs are amateur, i've seen better cosplay than what they were able to pull off, the acting is terrible. There isn't a single good performance in this movie. Michael Madsen & Michelle Rodriguez feel so misplaced in this film. All the sword fights and the combat aren't even up to Renaissance fair standards and overall the film isn't even well shot. Boll does nothing to transform the material, the story telling is lifeless and they some how found a way to make a character that I loved kicking ass with, boring. They couldn't even pull off a decent sex scene. Uwe Boll actually found a way to take the appeal out of a sex scene with Kristanna Loken.

BloodRayne was incredibly disappointing because of the source material but even for people who are just fans of a good vampire film this one isn't worth the hour and thirty-five minutes you will waste with this snorefest.

THE GOOD

I haven’t seen enough of Kristanna Loken to know whether she’s a good actress or not or if the direction/writing simply wasn’t fair to what she’s capable of BUT, she definitely looks that part. It was good casting from that stand point.

THE BAD

Even if you take this as a simple vampire movie and you know nothing about the source material, it’s not even a good film in that regard. It doesn’t do anything for the genre.

The action scenes are God awful and it can’t even be blamed on the budget. Rayne is a supernatural character, but they don’t really utilize the abilities she SHOULD have so it’s not a thing where they made attempts that didn’t work because they couldn’t afford decent CGI or effects.

Michael Madsen, Ben Kingsley & Michelle Rodriguez are actually good actors so it’s a shame to see they took part in this. Rodriguez tried using a British accent and it’s just not in her range.

This film contains one of the worst sex scenes of all-time. Sex appeal is common in vampire films but this completely fails in that area.

I give this film a 1.9 out of 10 DISAPPOINTING MESS
