the storm rages outside the castle walls. wind tore at the mortar between the stone , rain pelted on fogged windows. in the dead of night , a flash of light would ripple across the sky , the world shaking moments after. a perfect kind of night to sit inside where it was safe and warm. and definitely not wet. aedraaf had just finished placing the logs , the only sound to punctuate their silence the gentle crackling as the wood fibers split from the heat of the flames. still comfortable in her chair , serana turned a page from her book.

rubied eyes don't even lift as he moves about. as he settles in his chair on the opposite corner of the fireplace. don't lift at the light clattering sound as he shifts to grab something. they only peer up at him when one gentle note pierces the air. as it warbles to find purchase on the right tone. lips twist up. he fiddles with the knobs , the tuning barely any louder than the howling of the wind. so she continues reading for a few pages. listening to the aligning of chords , the soft sound of a rag on wood so the instrument could be polished properly. " don't let my reading stop you , " serana hums , flipping another leaf from her book. " i haven't heard ambient music played in a while. i quite miss it. " it was always hard to read and play your own instrument after all.

I will be changing my username to RavenQuing on everything.

It started off as an inside joke, but I genuinely love it now - for those curious, it is related to Vax'ildan & The Raven Queen!

I call myself Vax after Vax'ildan and wanted a short username that referenced him somehow, but I'm nonbinary so Raven King didn't feel right to me.

My bestest best friend and the mother of my godchild, Lilah (@goldenmushroomquing00's fiancée!), suggested mashing king and queen together to make a gender neutral variant.

She started calling me quing all of the time and before I knew it, all of our friends were calling me quing as well! So it really means a lot to me now.

the ground meets her knees and hands. how long has it been ?? how many years since sweet cruor passed her lips ?? a body beneath her begins to cool. she's ravenous. MONSTROUS. the stranger's skin had popped like that of a cherry tomato , juices filling her mouth ( you're almost feral again. you remember this ache and this hunger from when you were newborn , roaming the darkened forests in search of anything weaker than you to ease this emptiness , this hollow cavern that served as a heart. )

silent minutes pass as she feeds. nothing about it kind or gentle as she has taught herself to do. his voice breaks through the fog of hunger and it takes every ounce of will in her body not to break from her meal with a VICIOUS hiss. no. instead she detaches quietly , blood dribbling down her chin in a rather crude fashion , and looks up to the man who had helped her out of the tomb she thought would be her home everlasting. looking not as peaked , near mummified , as she had when she first fell out. skin still sallow , but not as dry , eyes still crimson , but not as milky.

" would you like a REAL ANSWER to that ?? " the bandit is rolled away so she could stand easily. " seems a silly question to ask me. . . a vampire. . . but i'll indulge. " somewhat. " you lose track after a few decades. so if you were looking for a number , i won't be able to provide it. the older you get , you realize there's no sense in keeping a tally. you'll perhaps be able to rest a bit easier knowing this , " a pallid hand waves carelessly over the corpse at her feet , " isn't as common as it once was. once i'm full , i only take what i need. few die anymore. " her head tilts back and forth just so as if contemplating. " unless i'm provoked , that is. by then , i feel like they're asking for it. "

PAIN

Yeah, no, I don't wanna talk about it. Last week was rough.

Um... Let's aim for 3,000 words next week, and maybe I'll get some progress done on a few different stories. Have 2 new ideas I want to start writing.

The roster;

Crown Of Thorns - an AU that explores a world where Hotis successfully got his revenge against Vax'ildan, how his friends react and what could come next.

Drowning - a sequel to That Sinking Feeling exploring how Vax'ildan navigates his new responsibilities while also facing dragons, a crisis of faith and lots of trauma.

Not My Mark - a A/B/O AU where Vax'ildan is a closeted Omega and is caught by the Briarwoods while in heat, resulting in a shameful sacrifice that causes strain amongst Vox Machina and that eventually results in poor Vax having to make a very difficult and very life changing choice.

Ring For Me - an exploration of Vex'ahlia and her guilt over getting married to Percy without telling her brother and how she handles his sudden death.

Separation Burns - an AU where Vex'ahlia abandoned Vax'ildan in the woods after they fled from Syngorn and Vax'ildan fell into the hands of Professor Byron Anders.

Spider Lilies - originally a fic exploring Laudna and Orym bonding over their trauma, might end up more Laudna centric though - still unsure.

Stars In Your Eyes - an AU that explores Allura falling in love with Vax'ildan but being unable to tell him this.

Thorned Feathers Make A Man - an AU where Vox Machina didn't arrive in time to save Vax'ildan from his first meeting with the Briarwoods... But Vax wakes up later on, just different. (Vampire Vax For The Win!)

Growing Pains - an AU where The Chroma Conclave arc doesn't happen and Vox Machina find themselves turned young again by a cultist of The Whispered One during their mission to wipe The Whispered One's cult off of the face of Exandria.

Snowdrops - a slightly Canon Divergent fic that explores Vex'ahlia's grief over losing her twin brother on their first birthday since his death and ascension.

WEEKLY WRITING CHECK IN

Missed a week, and really struggled to write for the past 2 before "canceling" a story, but it's okay! Was dealing with some shit so the writing fell off to the side priority wise.

Idk if I'm completely done with Snowdrops, but I have given up on it for the moment at least.

I don't care what word count I get this week, let's just see what happens as we go!
