I think there's a lot of evidence in canon to suggest that Mihawk doesn't want to be lonely. But he doesn't know how to be around other people without expecting too much of them and always ultimately ending up disappointed when they fall short.
Sometimes when he looks at Shanks, all he can see is failed potential and broken promises he made with no one but himself.
Even now he tries not to linger longer than he has too;
Shanks' future no longer has any room for him and so Mihawk remains stagnant stuck 10 years in the past, alone. He doesn't know how to be anything else.
That is until a couple of pesky cotton candy haired children barge into his castle and into his life and drag him head first into the future too

Itty bitty reference of everyone bc i am Tired of colourpicking from the previous page (and bc everyone has some semblance of consistent design now XD )
I drew this between posting Moon 3 (part 2 and 3) so sorry for the lack of Small Boi, he will be added when i get time + when he has a name revealed!
Fun notes!
- Poppy's short tail and Dart's nub-butt are both caused by the manx gene, Dart just has a higher expression! (it's dominant so Pine doesn't have it at all)
- Burnet and Quiver have the exact same eye colour and very close skin tone
- Pine's mullet will get bigger as he grows but it's important to note even as a baby bc i think it's funni
- Poppy looks like a unit but is mostly fluff, Burnet is actually stocky
- age can be at least partially determined by how yellow someone's teeth are lmao
- Quiver's angry eyes started as a joke but stuck around bc it's fun to draw
- Pounce (and Lilac to an extent) is the only character with dark brown pads bc of a silly headcannon I have regarding fully white characters being polar adapted, most characters will continue to have pinkish red ones! (except new lil guy bc he has melanism)
- I like to imagine Burnet isn't piebald but actually has a somatic cell mutation similar to bloodmark horses. Why? idk, i think it's fun, and also genuine piebaldism comes with health issues
- everyone has different ear tufts bc i think that's cute cx
- Lilac is tall
has ANYONE noticed the sclera thing yet? No? ok

One thing I'm noticing in some of the fandom reactions to this breakup and the aftermath is that the characters have been put on a pedestal and are being judged against some pretty unrealistic standards. They get raked over the coals for every single mistake. I've seen it with both characters but recently I've seen it the most with Tim.
Don't get me wrong, in no way am I condoning his current behavior. He's made multiple mistakes and he's broken Lucy's trust and her heart. He absolutely needs to be held accountable for all of these things and he owes her an apology and that adult conversation and a whole lot more if they're gonna be able to be together again.
But what he's doing right now, his imperfect actions as he navigates this period of his life... it's very human. This is a man who is at rock bottom, and when you're drowning in the weight of your own trauma like he is, you often don't have the strength to see beyond that and understand how your actions are impacting the people around you. He's not being cruel (which, by the way, implies intentionality to one's actions) by breaking up with her or denying her that conversation. He's drowning.
He truly can't see that she's *not* better off without him. He can't see how much he's hurt her, and that he continues to hurt her with his actions. I don't even think he could answer her questions right now about why he did what he did, because he doesn't fully understand it himself. He can't see anything beyond his own lack of self-worth. Right now, expecting him to be able to fully comprehend what he's done and why is completely unrealistic.
Now, does this excuse his behavior? Absolutely not. But it does explain it.
And the thing that's bothering me the most is the posts saying Tim doesn't deserve Lucy's forgiveness. This is a man who has completely fallen apart but is finally taking the first steps toward healing. Shouldn't he be given a chance at redemption before being written off as unforgivable? And shouldn't Lucy be the one to decide whether to forgive him?
Again, I'm not defending his actions. He has a lot of work to do on himself and he has a lot of work to do to gain back Lucy's trust. It's not going to be easy. But to say he doesn't deserve forgiveness without even giving him a chance? That's pretty harsh. He doesn't deserve to spend the rest of his life being defined by his worst moments. No one does.

hetalia and the nations really are, to me, just an elaborate metaphor. that's why it's hard for me to have really solid headcanons or even just think about them in concrete, unchanging terms. but i also think that's a strength of the series because it lends itself so intensely to creative exploration. i'm not tied down to one interpretation so they can change and shift as i need them to, and every possibility can exist simultaneously in my mind without contradiction. it's cool and very unique imo
