Miko loves everything about you. Especially your hair. Miko’s blood boils.

In the midst of her anger, Miko’s heart aches for you. You, blatantly unaware of what was being said about you, continue to giggle and talk with Mari across the room. You barely even know the people who were talking about you behind your back, and they barely even know you, either. How dare they?

Miko doesn’t even think twice and storms over to them. Her chest rises up and down with anger. And her fists are to her side, clenched.

“What the fuck is your problem?” Miko growls at her friends, and the group’s faces grow pale as they all snap their heads up to see Miko, unaware that their comments have been heard. The first friend opens her mouth to say something but the other one beats her to it.

Unbeknownst to Miko, your attention draws to the confrontation.

“Tranquila, Miko, no estaba hablando en serio,” she protests with an awkward chuckle and Miko clenches her jaw.

“Esa es mi novia de la que estabas bromeando,” Miko snaps, her tone sharp. “Ni siquiera la conoces y bromeas sobre su cabello. If you can’t respect her, then we can’t be fucking friends.”

At that moment, Miko feels a hand touch her shoulder. She instinctively knows that it’s you, and she prays that you didn’t hear anything that was being said. Yet when looks at you and sees your tear-filled eyes, her fears are confirmed.

You had heard everything.

“Estás bien, mi vida?” Miko asks softly, giving your thigh a gentle squeeze, and despite you nodding, Miko knows better.

The car ride home is silent. Miko glances every now and then at your direction, her heart aching at the sight of your sad expression, and she is racking her brains for a way to make you feel better. She helps you get out of the car once you two arrive home, her arm wrapped around you, tightly, protectively, and the moment you two sit down on the couch, you break down.

“Ay, Y/N.” Miko pulls you to her lap, gently guiding your head to her chest. “No te pongas así, eres demasiada linda para llorar.”

Each sob that comes out from you only makes Miko’s heart twist. She gently rocks your body from side to side, peppering you in kisses, whispering sweet nothings as your sobs turn from cries to soft whimpers and hiccups. You’ve calmed down now, but Miko can tell that you’re still upset.

“Is it true what they said, Miko? My hair looks like a rat’s nest?” you murmur softly, and ever so gently, Miko lifts your chin up.

“Claro que no, Y/N. Your hair is absolutely beautiful. They have no idea what they’re talking about.” Miko pecks your lips, softly, gently. “Eres hermosa, mi amor, no creas nada de lo que dicen, por favor.”

“Thank you, Miko,” you sigh after a beat of silence, nuzzling into her touch. “Can we cuddle, please?”

Miko coos. “Yes, of course, my love. Quieres hacerlo aquí o en nuestro cuarto?”

“Nuestro cuarto,” you reply, sniffling, and with that, Miko lifts you off the couch with ease and carries you to the bedroom.

Miko carefully places you down, her eyes silently asking you for permission, and with a nod, she begins to take off your clothes. It’s your favorite way to cuddle, skin to skin, limbs tangled together, and Miko is more than willing to join you if it meant your happiness and comfort. Once Miko strips out of her clothing, she leads you the bed by the hand. Under the covers, she wraps her arms around you, and kisses the top of your head.

“Gracias, baby,” you hum, cuddling closer to your girlfriend.

You lift your head up and kiss her cheek. Miko then gently cups your cheek, stroking your skin with her thumb as she looks into your eyes for a moment, and then connects her lips with yours. The kiss is gentle and soft, and Miko feels you melt into her, your hand lightly grilling the back of her neck, the sound of your soft moans making Miko’s heart flutter. Miko then pulls away slightly.

Kuda and Zydeco had Widget (then named Kudi) at 16, they were terrified, I mean, they had a BABY at sixteen, they were children themselves! They were terrified that they would ruin her, or hurt her or anything! But Zydeco was terrified of something else, xey were terrified of the inquest using her in an experiment. She had been born with her eyes having developed a rare, and ancient trait Xey knew it was irrational, but they were freaking out so much about so many things that they couldn't control, but they could control this.

So xey begged Kuda for the three of them to run away from the inquest, move to Rata Sum, or Thaumanova (Thauma Sum? Rata Thauma?) somewhere away from the inquest, and live a life with their daughter.

But Kuda refused, she was offended, and downright hurt that xey would even suggest leaving the inquest behind. Her father is an overseer of the inquest, and she had dreams of becoming one too! And so what if they poked at Kudi a little, she won't let them go all out on her, but so what?

So, months and months of trying to convince Kuda didn't work, and Zydeco had gotten to the point where xey began to think of alternatives. That was, until one late night, an older inquest member who had somehow heard about Zydeco's fears went up to xem, Kuda, and the babe, and poked a sharp nail at her. "I heard someone was afraid that someone would take an interest in this little rascal here! How selfish... I think id like to take you off of their hands.. pluck out these unique eyes of yours.." and ended it with a harsh cackle.

Though xey knew he was joking, taunting xem for xeir fears, but it was the final straw for xem. After the man left, Zydeco turned to Kuda, and for a final time for them to leave, to protect their daughter, but once again she brushed xem off.

So that night, Zydeco packed up both xeir and Kudi's stuff, and left a note for xeir beloved.

"I can't stand around and wait for you to change you mind, Kuda. I'm sorry, but i'm leaving... and taking Kudi with me. But, its never too late to join us. Please.

If you ever want to join us, trigger this device, it will send a hologram to my golem for us to talk.

Not me writing an entire fake journal entry of Zojja's from Primal Maguuma. Since there's stuff that, as many of us have, happened differently to canon.

I told Mabon about Qirri today. Maybe it was… being here. In this place. I still remember waking up in the medical ward in Rata Sum one morning to an awful commotion in the hallway. It took a moment, but I started to pick out voices… Vezz. Qirri's sister Rissia, and both her other sisters and her parents. There was fear there. Anxiety. Hurt. Rissia was asking Vezz to stay- shocking, but not important- and they were talking about… awful things. Treatment plans. Options for long term care. Options for… other forms of care. I had to squeeze my eyes shut and roll over, put my pillow over my ears to try to block out what I was hearing. Qirri had been my first student. She was brilliant. Is brilliant. Reminds me a lot of myself, actually. Angry and determined and so damn overlooked by everyone but the people who can't do anything to fix it. And I tried to teach her to be independent, to never show weakness, to always keep moving forward so you couldn't be moved past. I feared in that moment that all my instruction had gotten her killed. Mabon listened quietly, and asked if I'd like to see her. I couldn't even bring myself to see her then. I'd asked a nurse now and then, about how she was doing. She was sicker than she'd ever been. She'd gotten sick in this- that. That damn jungle. Because she hid how sick she really was. I couldn't face her. I especially couldn't face her family. Rissia was a good person, another sharp mind Rata Sum chewed up and spat out. And she was facing the baby sister I knew she cared so much about dying sick in a hospital bed. In the moment, I wondered what I would do if, Alchemy forbid, she did die. I had taught her the lessons that led her there. She's better now. Leading a krewe with Taimi in Cantha. But being here, all I can hear is her horrible coughing and wheezing from the room next to mine. I want it out of my head.

I think an interesting discussion I have had (many times, by now) with my mother is around her experience, as someone who has always aligned with feminism, and who also left the workforce in the late 1980s to become a stay-at-home wife and mother. it's 35 years later and she's never gone back to the workforce (and, since she's now pushing 70, I think we can safely say she won't)

because, like: that was not about her Womanly Instinct or a rejection of independence. that was about her having completely burned out on a working environment which would have been tough for most people (she was, among other things, a posh Oxford-educated scientist from the south of England in a mostly-vocational agricultural unit in the north) but was obviously much tougher for her as a woman in an almost entirely male team. highlights she has mentioned frequently include being told, very kindly, that she would be more likely to get a promotion if she wore skirts. to her agricultural job. where she regularly climbed over gates to hike miles in the mud.

I am now in a similar position (I have burned out on work spectacularly to a point where I am deeply afraid that I might never recover) except, crucially, I am not married to someone with a full-time job. and it has really cast in sharp relief just how privileged she was to be able to leave the workforce when she needed to. like, i cannot afford to be permanently unemployed. due to other privileges, I reckon I can afford to be unemployed for about six months before the stress of needing money and needing to get a job completely outweighs the benefit of being off.

but this is NOT anti-feminist! because what we need here is not "more women to leave the workforce and be full-time wives and mothers" - because if my dad had been the one who burnt out so badly he had panic attacks for a year afterwards at the thought of going back to work, he should also have been able to leave. both in terms of outside social pressures, and in terms of his own pride and self-image as a Man. he has been through some really shitty employment in a 50-year career, and he might be better off today if he had been able to say "fuck, I can't do this, I need to tap out for a bit."

and if a woman whose husband is NOT in full-time employment, or who (like me) doesn't have one, needs to leave the workforce for her health or to deal with shit, that should also be possible.

But it has in fact become less and less possible, and burnout has become more and more prevalent as computerisation, home working, and reduced worker protections erode the free time that we DO have. we do not have tea breaks, paid lunch breaks, protected time when we cannot be expected to work. in my (former) sector it is pretty common practice to advertise a job part-time at an attractive pro-rata rate only to expect full-time workloads for what is effectively 10-15% below market rate. hustle culture has latched its teeth into us all. and this hits hardest on the people who were ALREADY, in 1990, expected to "do it all".

because ultimately, we are told to choose between work and home. like, there is a gendered pressure here, but all people are told to choose - it's just that men are assumed to want to choose work, and women are assumed to be drawn to home.

last week my (cis male) partner was like "cooking dinner for you made me realise that i really want to be a kept man actually" and that was very funny to me because (sorry joe) he would be an APPALLING housewife his flat is an impenetrable mess and he knows maybe three recipes. also, you know, he would definitely have to dump me and find someone who earned a better salary than i ever have. but it's telling, isn't it? it's telling that it's not just women, or "people-raised-as-women", who dream of leaving the ratrace and escaping to a simpler, lower-pressure life. It says that maybe the move to tradwives and cottagecore and traditional femininity isn't about gender at all: it's just that women, unlike men, have a script for "not being in work" that isn't "helpless and depressed". women have a version of unemployment which includes purpose, direction, value, and, yeah, at least the potential for happiness.

(that is not how it works out for a lot of people, being a sole homemaker is a LOT of work and often very lonely, and reproductive labour is grossly undervalued)

the reason men don't generally dream of being a housewife is not that men are hardwired to want Career and Success and Love Job more than women are. it's that, like... it's a housewife. househusband is a clumsy, artificial, very recent term that does not reflect a known social reality. men do not have that script, that version of escape. for men, in general, the script is "go on the dole". it's not I Love Lucy, it's Shameless.

(the OTHER social script, both sides of the atlantic, is homesteading/being a rugged off-grid loner cut off from society. And, you know what? I think a lot of men want that out. I know I do. personally I dream of the very specific labour of owning a croft in the highlands where i live alone with goats and bees and make a living from produce and crafting. maybe i learn butchery and sell venison from the bastard deer who try to eat my crops. this is, in many ways, the less-gendered version of the tradwife fantasy - "I work, but I work on my own terms, in hands-on ways, and not for a paycheque".)

And the sad thing is, I love working. I have been in some form of paid work since I was 12 years old, and the longest I've ever been unemployed in the past nearly-20 years is five months during lockdown. work gives me purpose and structure and a social script, and I'm good at the things I do, and I like to feel productive. I want to work. But work doesn't love me, and that is not the fault of feminism or the fault of my gender or sex: it's the fault of a society that assumes that work has to be forced on a feckless, worthless underclass who can never be trusted or given any support or protections, lest they maliciously use them to Work Less. and. yeah. feminism hasn't fixed that. but nor has any other system - fuck knows that traditional industrial values and separate spheres haven't! the best changes - the ones that are now being rolled back, like weekends and overtime and paid breaks and sick leave - have been won by solidarity, worker consciousness, and an awareness of where the problem actually is.

idk this isn't a particularly meaningful addition, it's really just restating what others have said better. i've just been thinking about it a lot. you know. for some reason.

Expanding a bit on the post I just reblogged, I absolutely HATE how a surprisingly large portion of the population now thinks that feminism is synonymous with being a "girlboss". The idea that working some kind of professional job and being successful at it is the only way to do feminism is insane. People will literally say "feminism has failed us" or "I'm giving up on feminism" when they're unhappy with their jobs. Babes idk how to explain this to you but that is not a problem with feminism that is a problem with your job. You don't need a rich man to provide for you while you take care of the kids you need a goddamn union and some paid leave

Whumpril day 6:

Sunset crept in through the windows of the passageway Tezzin walked. In Rata Sum's lowest hab district, the light was direct this time of evening. He had just finished giving a lecture in the guildhouse with great anxiety, but his nerves had eventually found calm in the quiet walk home. Now he was more tired than anything, and felt forever grateful that his dwelling was just around the corner.

"Vinn."

The voice halted him. He tried not to startle at the measured footsteps approaching from behind.

He knew that voice.

"Y-Yes?" Tezzin stammered, as calmly as he could manage. The footsteps reached him as he turned, and faced Gerik.

The Disaggregator himself.

Tezzin gulped involuntarily. Gerik simply stared like a cat evaluating prey. The larger asura's golden eyes seemed to glow as the dying sunlight caught them, and held Tezzin frozen in place.

It was an unsettling moment just before Gerik broke the silence, "I thought we might have a little talk."

"A-a-ah! Y-Yes, o-o-of co-course!" Panic swelled in his chest as Gerik took another step closer, and Tezzin stumbled backward into the shaded corner of the passageway. Gerik approached again.

"There is something I need you to realize." Gerik shifted his gaze to his polished black claws as he met Tezzin in the shadows, checking them for imperfections that did not exist.

There was a second then that Tezzin thought he saw escape. In that moment, he thought he could dart away back down the passageway the way he came, and if he ran as hard as he could then maybe--

All thoughts shattered when the Disaggregator suddenly lunged, and Tezzin found his face propped up by a single black claw. His eyes widened with fear as those deadly gold eyes pierced into his, just inches away. He felt himself being examined, inspected like an insect on the tip of that claw. His heart pounded in his chest, begging him to flee, but his body was frozen in place. And still Gerik stared, as though he might pull that one horrible truth from him with his gaze alone..

Then the Disaggregator spoke, firmly, and darkly. "I don't believe you."

Tezzin's breath caught in his throat. He thought he heard his voice squeak, but the pounding pulse in his ears was deafening. Still Gerik stared, until the sharpness in his gaze dulled. The black claw dragged itself from his chin, and released, Tezzin stood back against the wall to reclaim what distance he could.

"Wh-wh-what-t d-d-d-do yo-you m-mean?" He tried to smile, but knew his nerves were as plain as the dying day to the Disaggregator.

Gerik eyed him without amusement. He was silent.

He was letting him sweat.

"I-I-I d-d-d-don't kn-know what yo-you're t-talking about," He tried to offer a laugh, but it came as a wheezing squeak. "I-I sh-should r-r-really be g-going."

Gerik continued to keep him in his sights as Tezzin cautiously begun to move past him, slowly at first, and then in a panicked jolt, the pale asura made a break for it.

Gerik made no move to stop him, and Tezzin fled the scene with a deep-seated dread he couldn't outpace.

the funny thing about the post-EoD, pre-SotO period for Feyn, Bato and Gheli is Feyn has the worst time of the three

Gheli goes back to Rata Sum and starts a new krewe for continued research on the residual effects of the dragon cycle and its end. for the first time, her krewe stays together longer than a year, and she's truly respected by her peers (and, importantly, respects them in return). by the end of it she's starting to feel restless again and wants to go back into "field work" (read: adventuring), but she's for the most part content with her life and would gladly have kept down the same path.

Bato also returns home - she's finally worked out her long-standing struggle with reconciling her loyalty to traditional charr ideals of self-sufficiency and the Pact's policies of broad cooperation with the other races, and starts working in the fahrar as an instructor for cubs. she teaches them to be fast, deadly, silent, and quick - but most of all that the other races are allies to be respected, not potential enemies to be feared. she wants to make sure the next generation doesn't produce another Bangar or Ryland.

and then there's Feyn. the legendary Pact Commander, Dragon Champion, Hero of Tyria and beyond...suddenly, for the first time in a decade, without a world in need of saving. she's literally spent most of her life as the hero everyone looked up to - she had only emerged from the Dream two years before she joined the Vigil! it was an incredibly burden to be the Pact Commander, but she bore it because it needed to be done and she couldn't trust it to anyone else. and here she is now, expected to wake up tomorrow morning like none of it ever happened and live a normal life.

she tries so hard, bouncing from place to place, job to job, but she can't escape that thought in the back of her mind that says "but what about next time? what about the next disaster, the next crisis? you can't be caught off guard then. you can't let anyone die because you weren't ready."

and so she keeps a dagger or axe on her at all times. she trains to keep her bow aim sharp every night. she stops by the warden outpost to catch the daily reports. she keeps one eye open and one ear to the ground so that, at the first sign of any trouble, she can be there in an instant. because she's always been the hero. she has to be.

so when she's thrust into the world of the Astral Ward, of course she accepts the role of Wayfinder and turns a blind eye to their more questionable methods. she's spent so long in this role, it feels so much more natural to slip right back in than try to live outside of it.

My Trip from Melaka to Cameron Highlands on a Motorcycle

Today marks the end of an exhilarating trip from Melaka to Cameron Highlands on my motorcycle. It was a ride filled with adventure, awe-inspiring landscapes, and a sense of freedom that only a road trip like this can bring.

The Start: Leaving Melaka

I left Melaka early in the morning, just as the sun started peering over the horizon. The air was still cool, and the streets were quiet—perfect riding conditions. I checked my bike the night before tires, oil, and fuel. Everything was set for the 400 km journey ahead.

The ride out of Melaka was smooth. I followed the North-South Expressway (E1), which is the main highway connecting the southern and central parts of Malaysia. As I rode, the countryside began to unfold—palm plantations, small towns, and stretches of greenery. The highway was easy to navigate, with long stretches that let me relax and enjoy the scenery.

The Midway Point: Tapah

By midday, I reached Tapah, a small town that serves as the gateway to the Cameron Highlands. Here, I stopped for lunch at a local restaurant and had a plate of nasi lemak with iced tea. I could already feel the weather starting to cool down slightly as I got closer to the mountains.

The road from Tapah to Cameron Highlands is where the adventure truly began. This stretch is winding, narrow, and steep, with endless curves as it climbs into the highlands. I felt the temperature drop with every turn, and the cool, crisp air was a refreshing change from the warm lowlands. The road was surrounded by dense jungle, with occasional breaks where I could see the valleys below. It was challenging to navigate, but the thrill of riding through such terrain kept me focused.

Reaching Cameron Highlands

After about two hours of navigating the twists and turns, I finally arrived in Cameron Highlands. The cool mountain air and the sight of tea plantations cascading down the slopes were welcoming. The roads here were much calmer, and the pace of life felt slower.

I checked into a small guesthouse in Tanah Rata, a quaint town in the heart of Cameron Highlands. After parking my bike, I took a walk around town to stretch my legs and soak in the atmosphere. The cool weather, colonial-style buildings, and lush greenery created a tranquil vibe. I visited a nearby café, where I sat on the terrace sipping hot tea while overlooking the rolling tea plantations. It felt surreal to be here after such a long ride.

Reflection

The ride from Melaka to Cameron Highlands was both physically and mentally challenging, but it was worth every mile. There’s something special about experiencing the changing landscapes—from the flat, tropical lowlands to the cool, misty mountains—on a motorcycle. Thinking about how Zojja was implied to be pretty young when we met her in Edge of Destiny, late teens early twenties at best, and how she had to watch the mentor who was implied to be the closest thing to a family she had be brutally killed in front of her. Only to return home and have her people treat her like some kind of martyr, someone who had to step up to the plate and be the Most Exemplary Asura!

And she was so young and not even allowed to grieve because it's like she says in the Synergetics personal story if you choose to save Pol, don't show you're soft, Rata Sum will eat you alive. How that grief turned to anger at the person who was supposed to be protecting Snaff even though rationally there's nothing Eir could've done to save him. Because she was so young and watching someone you love so much die a horrific death fucks with you in so many ways and she wasn't allowed to process her grief so all that pain and hurt and anger turned into lashing out at the only target she could fathom.

And I'm still so mad that we haven't gotten Zojja back because I want to see her have to work through that grief and pain when the one person she'd focused it on is dead and she has to look at Snaff's death with no one to yell at and recognize it was a terrible situation. Zojja is so hurt and still grieving when we meet her and it bleeds through as this sharp, bitter young woman who does so much on her own and when you think about how her trying to do so much by herself was likely influenced by not wanting to leave a student behind like Snaff did and then she went and did it anyway, it hurts!

Zojja isn't mean or bitchy or rude she's a young woman who was never allowed to process her grief that bottles everything up. We saw it whenever she was around Eir! And I'm so bitter we've never gotten to look that in the face and see Zojja have to finally confront her mentor's death and the fact that it was no one's fault but fate's.
