Gingerbread RAT

Mimic was working - or trying to. It was very difficult with a rambunctious child running around. Even with all the precautions he’d taken, Shantae was still finding ways to get into trouble. Perhaps he needed more locks around his workshop...

He felt something clamp onto his arm, and sighed. Slowly, he lifted his arm, and found Shantae there, clinging onto his coat for dear life with her teeth and making a weird growling noise.

“Shantae... why are you biting my sleeve?”

She tried to respond, but it was very hard to understand her through a mouthful of coat. Mimic gently shook his arm and she fell, landing on all fours. This seemed to suit her just fine, and she looked up at him with a big grin on her face.

“I asked you a question, young lady. Why are you biting your dear old Uncle Mimic?”

“Imma cat now. Cats gotta bite!” She wiggled in a perfect imitation of a cat about to pounce, and did so, latching onto Mimic’s leg.

“A cat, hrm?”

She nodded, grinning eagerly. “I was watchin’ the cats by the docks and I deci... de... uhhh, I wanna be one! So I gotta practice.”

“I see. But don’t you think there are better things to bite than your uncle?”

“Nuh-uh. You told me not to touch your ‘speriments. An’ all the food’s too high up.”

Mimic reached down to pry Shantae off of his leg, and carefully set her on his shoulders. “You could try biting into your vegetables at dinner time...”

“Bleeeeeeugh. Cats don’t eat veggie-tables. They eat rats and stuff!”

“So, you want to eat rats, too?”

“Euuugh, nooooo...!” Shantae flailed dramatically, and only some quick thinking from Mimic kept her from falling off his shoulders entirely. It was only now that she noticed he was tinkering away at his desk. “What’s that!!!”

“Oh, this? It’s an improvement for the toaster - if I can get it working right, it should apply jam automatically once the bread’s done toasting!”

“Au-to-ma-tic-al-ly...”

“It means you won’t have to make a mess at breakfast.”

“But that’s the best paaaaart...”

Day 4. Rat 4. Trans rats for trans rights. My chronic joint issues are catching up to my rat a day average but I shall not be dissuaded. Rat-cember shall prevail brothers.

he is the first of what I have dubbed the rat-speriments. there will be more. this is a threat.

Rat 8 showing off the (probably) finalized pattern. Not 100% on the tail placement but we'll see

Rat 7 is just a baby. (Rat 6 for size reference) He also has catnip in him and was given to the cat in the household who appreciates toys and does not rip them or harm them at all unlike SOMEONE (this is call-out for my cat who is a menace).

Number 5. Super happy with this little blue one. Pattern isn't perfect yet but we're getting there!

Rat 3. Pretty happy with the shape but he is a little longer than I would have liked. If I don't end up frogging rat 4, you will see that he only got longer. I made the tail a wormier than the past ones here and tbh not sure I like it. I have recently learned of the yarn under technique so that's gonna be fun to try. This is what I get for rawdogging the shit out of crochet.

Second day of what I've decided now will be rat-cember. He also needs a name.

Rat 6. The black rat, also known as the roof rat (scientific name Ratus ratus), is commonly blamed for the spread of the bubonic plague HOWEVER your honor I would like it to be known that MY CLIENT has never done anything wrong EVER and I ask the people of the jury to observe the noticeably boopable face of my client and WEEP for the horrific crimes you have pinned on this innocent individual. thank you
