I want to read more about Felix Yusupov's role in his brother's affair and death!! Including for the short story I need to write for my course.
The article I'm reading does have vague sources. But unfortunately the books of Jacques Ferrand have never been translated. Also they are ridiculously rare and expensive, I'm not going to pay hundreds of euros for a book?? 😭
It's really interesting though how Felix's friend (who had a crush on Nicholas) sought help from Rasputin to cope with Nicholas' death, and then introduced Felix to Rasputin to help him too.
(This is a different article than the one that talks about Nicholas affair and death, I only have that as pdf sorry. It's called "His brother's keeper" by Gretchen Haskin, published in Atlantis Magazine in 2000.)

"Rasputin" (Boney M.), with RusLiet
~ @fluffywhump
youtube
RusLiet [Undercover Assasin AU]
Ivan Braginsky is a mafia kingpin. He is cruel, ruthless, and arrogant. The people fear him and are aware of his crimes, but nobody dares try to incriminate him.
There have been many honeypot assassination attempts, but all have failed. Ivan is now wary of strange women who approach him. So, instead of a woman, Tolys is sent to carry out the assassination instead.
Tolys is unassuming and does not appear to be threatening at all. Ivan quickly develops a liking for him. Though he normally does not fall for men, surprisingly, he takes a romantic interest in Tolys.
After realizing that Ivan fancies him, Tolys tries to back out of the mission. However, his colleagues convince him he has to continue to seduce Braginsky and finish the job. He begrudgingly agrees.
Tolys struggles to keep up the act. He witnesses Ivan's brutality firsthand and is appalled by him, but he perseveres. The more time Tolys spends with Ivan, the more he learns about the hardships he's endured, and there are times he contemplates letting him live.
Eventually, the opportunity arrives to kill Ivan, but can Tolys actually pull the trigger?
[Yeah. I think he can. Probably unload a whole clip, honestly. 😂]

Vampires, History and You
DRAGAN I (12th century)
Blood-sucker from the Second Bulgarian Empie credited with being the first vampire. Claims of his exact birth, life and undeath are generally disputed and little proof of him even existing has been found. He is purported to have been of noble blood though as result of an affair, dying early of sickness and ressurecting as the original vampiric spawn for reasons unknown.
Some say he simply faded away or that he lives on to this day in form of the monsters of modern myth.
Tumblr media
VLADISLAV III (1431-1476)
Contrary to popular belief, the Voivode of Wallachia, Vlad "The Impaler" was NOT A VAMPIRE. However due to his sheer bloodlust and sadism he was a magnet for them. Many high-ranking Wallachian officials at the time were vampires fully on board with his ideas who wholeheartedly supported his plundering and impaling of the Transylvanian Saxons.
He was slain by his own troops as they had mistaken him for a Turk.
Tumblr media
ELIZABETH BATHORY DE ESCED (1560-1614)
A Hungarian countess moonlighting as a serial killer. Elizabeth was of the superstitious belief that bathing in blood would keep her youth intact, as her vampirism started taking a toll on her exterior, causing her to kill over 600 young maidens.
In early 1611 she was detained and imprisoned in Csejte castle for the remainder of her life where the deprivation of blood caused her to die four years later at the age of 54.
Tumblr media
GRIGORI YEFIMOVICH RASPUTIN (1792-?)
Hired as a faith healer by the Nicholas II's son, the Siberian strannik Grigori Rasputi was not only a skilled manipulator and medical practitioner but also a possibly immortal vampire. Despite having a religious awakening after a pilgrimage in 1897 he was an opulent man enjoying all the pleasures of food, strong drink and any woman that would have him (which were quite many).
Following multiple failed assasination attemps Rasputin was thought to have been killed by a group of noblemen. Their first attempt to poison him with cyanide-laced cake and wine failed as his physiology withstood the poison, he was shot in the forehead and his corpse was diposed in the Malaya Nevka River.
However current paranormal scholars believe he is still alive and well, living in the shadows.
Tumblr media
"JACK THE RIPPER" (Active 1888)
Another vampire serial killer is said to have haunted Victorian England. Although not even the name "Jack the Ripper" is for certain the methods of murder and removal of internal organs point to the suspect or suspects being of vampiric nature.
Never identified.
Tumblr media
PETER KÜRTEN (1883-1931)
Maybe not one of the deadliest but probably most heinous vamprire serial killers, Peter Kürten was a man who truly earned his titles. Such charming nicknames as "The Düsseldorf Monster" and "The King of Sexual Perverts". Kürten went on a spree of arsons, homicides and molestations in the year 1929 before he was apprehended.
Peter was executed via beheading in 1931 on accounts of nine cases of murder and seven cases of attempted murder. His head was split in two (possibly to avoid biting post-decapitation) and mummified. In the late 1940s the head was moved to the US and now resides in Wisconsin.
Tumblr media
KAREN SABNOCK (1912-Present)
The matriarch of a vampire clan which migrated to America after years of vampires confining themselves to Europe. At her arrival in the 1950s she fell in love with the suburban lifestyle that had been established post war. Her clan has grown strong over the years acting as a haven for vampirekind in the American Northeast...well as long as they conform to the standards of it.
She governs the coven as a sort of omnipotent wine aunt and is currently on the lookout for another vampiric bride, having set her eyes on the human wife of one of her clansmen.
Tumblr media
BILLIAM FREDERICK SUBURBS (1914-2012)
A prominent social figure and progenitor of the Karen's suburban vampire community. He was the classic sitcom family man father of three living with his wife...until she killed him and their children after discovering they had killed a man to drink his blood in front of her.
Since his demise the clan has been on the hunt for his spouse Marsha.

Love reading about Rasputin's death and seeing shit like "We have nooooo idea what hit Rasputin on the head" or some other detail like that that was absolutely mentioned in Felix’s memoirs.
Like I get that Felix’s memoirs aren't entirely reliable. Shit just happens that way. But you can't honestly tell me you have NO clue when the guy who did it says, "Oh yeah, it was a rubber bat, lmao." And doesn't have a reason to lie about it.
It's not definitive proof in any way, but that's still better than nothing.
I also love when folks give me the whole "I think the reason he talks about himself so much before the murder is to make you trust him even though hes a murderer" as if he's some kind of big-brained mastermind manipulator. This is Mr Felix "Purishkevich shot my dog" Yusupov. He has the persuasion of a kindergartener.
""That's exactly what he wants you to think.""
Honestly, idgaf if Lost Splendor is exaggerated or inaccurate. In my opinion, the accounts from there are pretty reasonable if you take out the rich layer of devoutly religious. Far better than any other adaptation I've seen.
But besides that it's funny. It's actually entertaining. It's well constructed.
It's biased, but there's something distinctly human about that.
It is a. Good. Book.

I don't have a lot more about the Passover part yet, except it's inspired by this fic so Hirschfeld is gonna invite Freud lol.
For the fic in general, Yusupov and his rich boyfriend (Sergey Razumovsky from Major Grom) start a queer guerrilla army called Bloody Doves that kills the antisemitic Black Hundreds, though it's mostly motivated by a murder of a trans girl.
Yusupov assasinates Purishkevich, with whom he murdered Rasputin. It's a big parallel to Rasputin murder - eating cake, happening in Moika palace.
Also Yusupov is dating Trotsky's imaginary brother who is a poet and a tailor. He's mixed race - there was a rumor that Trotsky's grandfather was Pushkin's illegitimate son.
I have two other Jewish OCs. Shira who is a nonbinary wheelchair user, from Odessa and the chief propagandist for Bloody Doves. And Lichinka Gorky who is a trans boy, former child prostitute and Razumovsky's foster son, and being trained to lead the Bloody Doves and the queer orphanage after Razumovsky.
Should I prioritize historical accuracy or symbolism?
I'm planning a fanfic where queer Jews celebrate Passover in early 1920s Russia. I kind of want to include an orange on the seder plate as a symbolism of queer inclusion, but I know that only dates back to the 1980s.
Should I include it or not? I'm not Jewish myself so I would appreciate opinions from people who are.

Hell, since nobody cares to ask me anything ill just post some lore about the Voltroverse, because i can
the whole story of the Voltroverse (including Metro: Underworld and VTV: Afterstory) takes place in Mainworld, a realm somewhere in the center of existence, forged by The Allfather himself.
𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 - A City famous for being the birthplace of many Heroes, but also where a lot of Villains Die... Its a very peaceful city with a lot of good people, some who know how to fight, some who know how to use Advanced Magic, and many more.
𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧'𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬 - A Cold Area, South of Soulwell City, the People of Rasputin’s Pass are excellent engineers, known for their Shkhara Protectors, and Gravitational Anti-matter tech. They are also known to dislike people not from their region, due to their lacking of Cold Resistance.
𝐂'𝐭𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐬 - Once a Fisher Town known for their region’s race species of Octopi and Squid, Corrupted by the words of the Elder God C’tan. Now its just a Stony Ruin of a town, with each building made into a Cathedral or Shrine to the Elder God.
𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 - A stone contruct connected to C’tan’s Ruins, used to summon and/or banish beings from/back to the Nothingness.
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡-𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭 - To quote the Forge God, Hearth-Frost (or Hafrolde in the ancienct tongue) is a place for Building, Fighting and Eating. The People of Hearth-Frost are Great Smiths and Excellent Warriors, and some even ascend into Godhood. Its quite cold there, near Arctic, even though its in the Middle of Mainworld.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 - The Regions of Mainworld have made an agreement to keep at least one giant area to bloom, what began as a campaign to raise funds to help the weak, now stands as the Everforest, and near Magical place where Ancient Forest Guardians now Reside in.
𝐀𝐤ó𝐧'𝐬 𝐎𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 - The Home of the most loyal and strong Race known to Mainworld; the Bandits. Dont let their name Fool you; Bandits are Famous for their Good Attitude, Advanced Strength, and Knowledge of the Old Era. Akón’s Oasis reflects the Bandits well; a lot of bandit towns near each other (thus every bandit calling each other “siblings”), with an giant pond in the middle of the Region. Simple, and Calm.
𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐥 - The city of Heimdoul was once a city of Dictatorship, the commoners ware forced to Slavery, and one day, Heimond Doulan Rose up, and Started a revolution, which changed the City Forever. Now Heimdoul is known as the greatest (and only) military City in Mainworld.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐲𝐩𝐭 - Almost nobody knows what this ancient building is, but what people do know, is that if you go into the Crypt, you never come back.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐬 - The People who couldn’t be cured of Insanity, or those who ware tired of life’s Bullshit, Took a part of Renekta and made it their own little Wasteland. The Wastes have no rules, it’s Do or Die. One thing of Note though; Never have high tech objects with you when you enter the Wastes.
𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐬 - An Advanced City Isolated from Mainworld, run by C0NTR0L, a Corporation based on “helping” Humanity, by taking away their Humanity, and turning them into Pure Machine. There are Rebels who try to fight C0NTR0L, but some people, like R3D, Answer-06, JUL14, Luke, and Atum, just want to kill, dismantle, and search for traces on how to end C0NTR0L from the Inside.
𝐋𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐳 - A Supermax Security Prison the size of a Region, Lavatraz Houses the most Dangerous Outlaws and Villains known to Mainworld. Lets just say there’s a reason they call it  𝐋𝐚𝐯𝐚traz.
𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 - The City of Progress Itself! Known to have the greatest Inventors, tinkerers, and Engineers. Also known to have the Greatest Assasins.
𝐙𝐚𝐮 - Piltower’s Outskirts, Now Toxic and Full of Acid, with a Deadly Mist surrounding the Entire City. The only law in Zau are the Chem-Admirals, Cyborg-like People with toxic fumes pumping into their lungs, and Acid Concoctions pumping into their veins. Zau is also known, suprisingly, for having a lot of kind people.
𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐚 - the first city of Mainworld, and the only city of the Old Era that remained to this day. Renekta is known for many things, its Bazaars, Ascention Sun Discs, and the all mysterious Black Piramid.
𝐊𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐲 - A Port City known for its Chaos, Trickery, Great Booze, and many Bars, Kraken Bay its the Greatest place to spend your Life’s savings, or join a Pirate Crew.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 - When Darknes Started to Corrupt Mainworld (Starting with Soulwell City), the Rest of the corrupted lands became a giant arena for Bounty Hunters, Murdurers, or just brave people,
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 (only in Metro: Underworld) - Metro’s anti-heroic acts inspired a lot of people, to the very point that they built an entire underground city in an abandoned tomb. And holy Crap, is it an interesting city, with a lot of Chill Spots.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐲 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 - The Father of Piltower’s leader banded with the older, wiser inventors to create a flying, steam powered City for those who wanted to flee ‘Poster Boy’s vision of “new Progress”.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐤 - Piltower’s Economic Division, The FLC, Decided to use their vast funds into making a giant Colony ship. Even though ‘Poster Boy’ declined their idea, they still made it anyway and flew off out of Piltower. You can find it in the sky pretty easily at night.
𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐠 - Another city of the Old Era that managed to remain to this day, quite cultured and honorable, the lands of the Sanzang are known to have the greatest Dojos in Mainworld. Legends say that Lafcadio, the Virtuosso, was born there.
𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢 - The City of Graffiti, Funk, Tricks, and Rooftops, Anashi is a City a lot of people go to on Summer, just to get a taste of the freedom. The most Famous person there, is a radio host, DJ GG, from Vox Shift Radio, known to drop the sickest beats, while having a quite soothing voice.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 - Ruins of an ancient kingdom of the old era, known to be heroic and valiant... but having a negative outlook on magic. If it warent for an inmate mage starting a revolution, Mainworld would not have had magic.
𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦'𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 - Once known as the greatest faction to ever roam Mainworld, The Imperium Destroyed and conquered everything in their path... however, something from the inside caused a mass extinction of the imperium’s politicians, soldiers, spies, and so on, yet still some survived, wondering to this day, what happaned, and who did it; who Killed the Imperium?

Kinda related to my previous post but also not really
I just wanna say that the "Felix and Rasputin had sexual relations" claim is also such an apeshit take
I CANNOT accept that people believe that, like genuinely
I'm sure it was great for the press, even now, but like?? Why??
I mean I guess you could say Rasputin had "thoughtful eyes" /ij
The fact that Felix was clearly unsettled by him at all times aside, Rasputin seemed pretty homophobic from what I've read in basically all accounts
Convinced this theory was just spewed out of nowhere by some homophobic tabloid writer who just wanted to make both of them look bad 👎
