Before I started designing, I thought of a lot of concepts of events. I remembered the reggae as a genre of music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s that promotes love, equality and marijuana (cooper,2019). Although it was not formed by one person or a group, nor in a short time, it gradually emanated from a Jamaican dance music called ‘ska’ and ‘rockseady’ with other genres of music from U.S.A, and other islands around them and with time it formed into what we call ‘reggae’ with Bob Marley as the most popular reggae singer. (Mathews, 2018).
Jamaica is the third largest Caribbean island after Cuba and Hispaniola with about 146 miles long and 51 miles wide (Buisseret et al, 2018). Its capital is Kingston and the Jamaican dollar is the currency used. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1494, Santiago was what he called it, but the original name of Jamaica, or Xaymaca, continued. Columbus said it was “the fairest isle that eyes have beheld,” (Ferguson,2018). a lot of people say it is the most beautiful island on the Caribbean. The island’s various Spanish, French, and English place-names are remnants of its colonial history. The great majority of its people are of African ancestry. Jamaica gained independence in 1962 and is still a member of the commonwealth (Ferguson,2018).
Nigeria, is located in west Africa. Nigeria is bordered to the north by Niger, to the east by Chad and Cameroon, to the south by the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west by Benin. Nigeria is not only large in area larger than the U.S. state of Texas but also Africa’s most populous country (Udo, 2019). The Nigerian musical industry has improved exponentially in the last three decades and still growing with the likes of Fela, Raskimono, Majek Fashek and new artists such as 2face idibia, burna boy, whizkid and patoranking (The New York times). As I imagined a reggae event blended with evening African feel, I imagined the groove of the valentine night with the reggae music and sharing of love amongst everyone then I came to the conclusion of creating an afro reggae evening event called ‘’reggae vibes’’ with an existing reggae artiste in Nigeria and made 03 Arena in Dublin the venue. I used Raphtalia type phase/font for reggae, Zurich for the name of the artiste and the date, Ariel for venue and website. I made the red, yellow and green background using the WHR zigzag effect from clip art background and sourced on the internet for the hand symbol that signifies ‘’one love’’. I also used ‘flares infect’ to create a shining light effect and make it look like the sun is setting from behind the message and is penetrating through. Contrast of sunrise and sunset which represents the Nigerian Jamaican sunrise and sunset is depicted in this poster. It is aligned in not a very accurate position that makes it unique and has a very strong texture of colours and type phase.

Jah Kissmen – “Keep Your Eyes Open”
Jah Kissmen – “Keep Your Eyes Open”
Remember the time when Ragga music was the face of Nigerian music. I am talking about the early 90s up to the early 2000s. The likes of Blacky, Raskimono, Marvellous Benji, Azadus, just to mention a few set every stage ablaze. That era slowly gave way to the new school wave – what we term today as Afro-beat. Ragga is a derivate of Reggae music from Jamaica and the rest of the Carribean.
