Dust Volume 8, No. 11
We like Patrick Shiroishi so much, we covered him three times.Â
Once more we gather round the Dusted table (which is imaginary), giving thanks for all weve received and preparing to overindulge. We binge not on pie or stuffing, but music, noise rock and free jazz improvisation, black metal and distorted cello, synthesizer-altered violin and Michigan shoegaze, and we have a triple helping of Patrick Shiroishi, because, why not? Contributors include Patrick Masterson, Bill Meyer, Jonathan Shaw, Jennifer Kelly, Ian Mathers and Bryon Hayes. God bless us every one.
Chat Pile â âTenkiller / Lake Timeâ (The Flenser)
youtube
Hear those lurching, filthy tones in the background of the official trailer for indie horror movie Tenkiller? See the kid with the skateboardâs shirt? âAre you scared?â Well, if youâre a fan of Oklahoma Cityâs Chat Pile and not a fan of twang, maybe you should be given the b-side to The Flenserâs latest cassingle that excerpts two cuts from the filmâs official soundtrack â all of which Chat Pile is responsible for. The eponymous a-side is far more in the expected vein of what the band most recently (and successfully) pulled off on Godâs Country over the summer, but âLake Time (Mr. Rodan)â is akin to how The Men opted out of harsher noise-rock territory for the breezier spaces of countrified/country-fried jangle. âThis is gonna be fun,â says a character toward the end of the trailer. And doesnât it feel that way when these guys are involved? Yeehaw!

Cunningham / Nguyen / Shiroishi â Basket of Knives (Astral Editions)Â
Basket of Knives by Cunningham / Nguyen / Shiroishi
This cassette documents the first-time convergence of three busy American improvisers from as many time zones. Drummer Thom Nguyen lives in Asheville NC, violinist Alex Cunningham resides in St Louis MO, and alto saxophonist (this time, anyway) Patrick Shiroishi is a Los Angeleno. But they were definitely in the same space when they made this recording, tuning into each otherâs idiosyncratic improvisational approaches. Nguyenâs body-blow drumming draws on heavy rock parameters, but retains the suppleness of free improvisation, and the other two make judicious use of effects to warp and broaden the resources of their respective instruments. On the final track, itâs hard to say exactly how Shiroishi makes the sounds that he makes, but the vocal quality of his contributions combine with a drizzle of gong and cymbal tones to impart a ceremonial air.

 Epectase â NĂŠcroses (Frozen Records)
NĂŠcroses by Epectase
<p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=332432060/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://epectase.bandcamp.com/album/n-croses">NĂŠcroses by Epectase</a></iframe></p>
Epectaseâs terrific 2018 LP Astres was a continuous sequence of surprises and near-comic transitions, few of which should have worked and nearly all of which did: for example, from a recognizable variety of contemporary black metal to Southern-boogie guitar heroics, in a span of four minutes. This new record dispenses with those wacko ambitions and imaginative leaps, in favor of a much more consistent sound. Itâs black metal, it flirts with a proggy cosmiche aesthetic and it mostly goes hard. On the LPâs closing track âNĂŠcrose,â the more focused intensity is quite effective, issuing in a song that builds and thrills. But by that point, the record has already logged 34 minutes, including a scenery-chewing, goth-infused opening (full of pronouncements like, âSomething calls my soul, a sacred truth / A divine black land,â delivered by what sounds like a young Francophilic Vincent Price) thatâs hard not to giggle at. While the wide-open, pranksome environment of Astres could absorb that sort of thing, the more gravid sensibility of NĂŠcroses sags under its weight. When guitarist Titouan le Gal is given space to riff and solo, the record cooks, but the histrionics fail to entertain.

 Lori GoldstonâHigh and Low (SofaBurn)
High and Low by Lori Goldston
You probably think of the cello as a mellow, well-behaved instrument, its voice rich, autumnal and grounded. Well, Lori Goldston would like a word, because her cello, deployed for everyone from Kurt Cobain to Mirah to David Byrne, is an altogether unrulier beast. Itâs prone to fevered moans and frantic saws, to intervals of peace bounded by wild scratch improvisations. She plays the cello like Paul Flaherty plays the saxophone, like she maybe wants to break it. High and Low captures her in full, mutinous form, slow moving but agitated in the long, freewheeling dissonances of âReal and Imagined,â taut and vibrating with unease in the whorl of âCrossing Over Place,â forthrightly mournful in the closer âWe Miss You.â âMoss on Rockâ is quite possibly as rock as a cello can ever be, buzzed with distortion and haunted with voice-like overtones and clattering with drums (thatâs Danny Sasakie). Long live the disrupters, especially when they play orchestral instruments.

Raquel Gonzalez â Sonic Creations For Violin And Lyra (Trouble In Mind: Explorer Series)
Sonic Creations For Violin And Lyra by Raquel Gonzalez
The modern-day music obsessive may not be nourished by tunes alone. Recognizing that, Trouble In Mind has instituted the Explorer Series, a cassette sub-label devoted to figures on the fringe of sound shapery. Previous instalments have delved into drone, fingerstyle guitar, and home electronics. Raquel Gonzalez is a Chicago-based violinist and software engineer, but this electronic music recording is framed as a dialogue between two pieces of hardware. The titular lyra is not the ancient Greek stringed instrument, but the Lyra-8, an âorganismicâ synthesizer. Put crudely, the device has a mind of its own, and Gonzalezâ efforts to influence its output, either by playing the violin into the thing or tuning its knobs, are more conversations than acts of absolute control. One can hear the actions of bowing and knob-turning shaping the sounds, but thereâs also an unruly quality to the resulting fizzes and buzzes that can be attributed to the synth doing what itâs going to do. For maximum effect, pop this tape into a safe-but-aged boombox, and feel the fuzz.

Greet Death â New Low EP (Deathwish Inc.)
youtube
Michigan shoegazers Greet Deathâs 2019 record New Hell (which some of us got to a bit late, ahem) was a strikingly hard-edged and bleak example of the form, with the extended workouts of the title track and âYou're Gonna Hate What You've Doneâ leaving particularly deep bruises. As you might guess from the title of their new EP, their first as a quartet after adding Jackie Kalmink on bass, that bleakness hasnât lessened a bit here. The surprise is that even as songs like âPunishment Existenceâ and âI Hate Everythingâ refine the mordant despair that makes Greet Death so distinctive (the band definitely makes music for listeners who can identify with lines like âI remember feeling relatively fine / part of me that diedâ), musically this new EP registers as much gentler than before, maybe even⌠pretty? Whether itâs the deceptively bright surge of âPanic Songâ or âYour Love Is Alcoholââs dissipated beauty, the result makes wallowing for 20 minutes or so feel more appealing than ever.
Ian Mathers Â
Party Dozen â The Real Work (Temporary Residence Ltd.)
youtube
Thereâs a lot of different directions you can take a sax-and-drums duo, and the Sydney-based Party Dozen (Kirsty Tickle on saxophone, Jonathan Boulet on drums and sampler) have gone with a decidedly aggro one, as is evident as soon as âThe Iron Bootâ opens their third LP by kicking the listener in the face. This tight, noisy 35 minutes doesnât lack dynamic range though; in addition to ragers like âThe Workerâ and âMajor Beefâ they deftly handle the noir-ish atmospheres of âEarthly Timesâ and lost 1970s horror soundtrack vibes on the closing âRisky Behaviour.â Even when they bring in Nick Cave for a brief, Birthday Party-style cameo at the end of the raucous âMacca the Muttâ one of Australiaâs most indelible performers kind of just folds into the duoâs assured and frequently abrasive sound. Itâs hard work, but theyâre very good at it.
Ian Mathers
Pile â âLoopsâ (Exploding in Sound)
youtube
Donât let the professionally shot video and polished studio overdubbing of âLoopsâ fool you: Rick Maguireâs still one of Americaâs best songwriters, still a musician capable of contorting rock conventions amid weathered lyrics and his bandâs formidable backing chops. What at first sounds like itâs going to be on the thrashier side of the quartetâs oeuvre instead mutates a different way, holding steady as a sludgy midtempo rocker that adjusts for Maguireâs slurs and soars (âTell me, are you being honest? / âCause they deserve the truth from youâ he stretches out toward the end) before an almost elegiac outro hinting at a whole other solo interpretation that might, in fine Pile tradition, be the best part of the whole thing. Tracked and mixed almost a year ago now, All Fiction will see a release in February; anyone with an iota of sense ought to be excited for it.
Patrick Masterson
PinkPantheress â âDo You Miss Me?â (Warner Music UK)
youtube
Gemma Victoria Walker broke out of the TikTok trenches with the featherweight âPain,â but her self-christened "new nostalgic" sound that amounts to wistful bedroom dance-pop akin to Air France, Doss, Clairo, Sally Shapiro or Doja Cat when she's being coy without the pyrotechnics is slowly cohering, as evidenced by âDo You Miss Me?â The template of sneaking in a couple of verses before a hummable chorus that she immediately backs away from is still here â that half-remembered feeling could arguably be the foundation of her whole ethos â but even at a slender two minutes, you get the impression this is something more fully realized, more thought out. Maybe itâs just that there are a ton of words packed into not a lot of space to Kaytranada and Philâs muted yet insistent thump, all airy propulsion, all tension and longing. Itâs clear sheâs coming into her own, even if the baby steps make it harder to see at close range.
Patrick Masterson Â
Chris Pitsiokos â The Art of the Alto (Relative Pitch)
Art of the Alto by Chris Pitsiokos
Chris Pitsiokos approaches music from several directions, using a variety of tools. But his primary piece of hardware is the alto saxophone. The Art of the Alto is not his first solo recording on the instrument, but it is, as the title suggests, a window onto his efforts to move beyond being a guy who plays the horn into the realm of being an artist who makes statements with one. This is not an easy in 2022. Giants like Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell have already stomped giant footprints into the earth, and the self-aware artist knows that they stand inside the behemothsâ footprints. Pitsiokos also has an eye and ear on the work of non-alto saxophonists; in particular, one can hear the influence of Evan Parker upon âShaleâ (all eight of this CDâs tracks are named after rocks). Pitsiokos may not be making unprecedented imprints upon the landscape, but he navigates the territory adroitly, ably connecting points of tone, contour, and rhythm like a navigator learned enough to know where the stars are on a given night without looking over his shoulder. The saxophone is his astrolabe, but his headspace confidently contains the star chart.

Seawind of Battery â Clockwatching (Island House)
IH-001: Clockwatching by Seawind of Battery
Mike Horn, a New York City guitarist who has made music with Goldkey and Sunblinders, spins out radiant, slow-moving clouds of lingering tone and this first outing as Seawind of Battery. Melodies push forward shyly out of long, pensive drones, yet the mix feels light as air and unconflicted. In âSummer Hymn,â the notes hang on, so that what you hear is a blend of what has come before and whatâs happening now. Still, thereâs no murk in the mesh of tones, just a bit of ambient glow to them. âLevelsâ sets a trebly tremor on repeat, then ruptures it with muscular runs of electric guitar, giving the whole piece an aura of anticipation and immanence. This is an extraordinarily serene and lovely album, which spreads calm all around it. As is often the case, Clockwatching makes time stand still.

The Senders â All Killer No Filler: 1997-2001 (Left for Dead)
youtube
The Senders shared stages with punk and proto-punk legends like Johnny Thunders and Wayne Kramer, were friendly with Blondie and played all the clubs that birthed NYC punk rock, but they werenât punk rockers. Instead, this ragged four- (sometimes five-) some played a feral sort of blues rock, stripped down and ferocious. Though it occurred at basically the same time, their music was utterly at odds with the big ticket blues rock of ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin. Phil Marcade, a Frenchman, led the band in a hoarse, incendiary growl and also played harmonica. Wild Bill Thompson played Chuck Berry-nodding riffs. Steve Shevlin, a former boxer, played bass and Marc Bourset drums. Some nights, Danny Ray blared on saxophone. The band covered blues classics like Howling Wolfâs âKilling Floorâ and Fats Dominoâs âIâm Gonna Be a Wheel,â and swaggering originals like âThe Living Endâ with equal abandon. It was as raw as punk but bent like blues. This two-disc set captures the Senders in their late 1970s fury and, notably, includes previously unreleased live tracks with Johnny Thunders sitting in. The sound isnât great, but the fire is unmistakable. A worthy, mostly forgotten chapter in New York City rock history.

 Patrick Shiroishi â Evergreen (Touch)
Evergreen by Patrick Shiroishi
Ed. Note: Due to some miscommunication and disorganization, we have two takes on this album.  Enjoy! Â
Bill Meyer:
Throughout its 40 years of existence, Touch has carried itself more like a nexus of cross-platform, independent artistic practice than a record label. It has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a series of site-specific events, and not many artists have appeared at more than one of them. Patrick Shiroishi performed at two, in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, and has followed up with this digital-only release. Best known as an improvising saxophonist, Shiroishiâs work actually spans several genres and explores concerns with relationships, social justice, and personal and national history. Evergreen represents Shiroishiâs reaction to the Touch catalog. Made mainly from field recordings made at Los Angelesâ Evergreen Cemetery, which is the resting place of several of his relatives, and slow-moving synth melodies, it projects an uneasy ambience. Periodically a sax or clarinet surfaces in the mix, giving a sharper focus to the musicâs diffuse melancholy, but the source of the sadness only materializes near the end, in the form of a relativeâs recollection of the trials that Shiroishiâs ancestors faced during World War II.  Â
Bryon Hayes:
Evergreen is Patrick Shiroishiâs debut for the UK-based Touch label. Here heâs dialing back his reed vibrations in favor of ambient emanations in line with the imprintâs oeuvre. The music treads a similar path to that of Across Water, a split release with Jessica Ackerley that arrived earlier this year, in that it is as subtle and eloquent as it is passionate and poignant. Shiroishiâs visits to the eponymous cemetery, in which generations of his family lay resting, yielded the field recordings upon which he constructed this lengthy piece. He augmented these with synths and additional recordings, as well as his voice, sax, and clarinet. There is a bivalent nature to this composition, as Shiroishi used both diurnal and nocturnal field recordings to form the emotional core of the music. The daylight half is airy and expansive, while the sunset brings harsher timbres along with it. Each of these modes carries with it a distinctive beauty, and together they demonstrate Shiroishiâs mastery of emotional expression through sound.  Â
 Heather TrostâDesert Flowers (BaDaBing)
Desert Flowers by Heather Trost
âFrog and Toad Are Friendsâ whorls and billows with euphoria, its giddy synths twining out like plastic tendrils, its vocals denatured to breathy âahsâ and buried back in the mix. There is no audible trace of Heather Trostâs other instrument, the occasionally melancholy violin. This hand-clapped, wordless tribute to a well-loved childrenâs book has a fantastical air, as does, indeed, the rest of this wide-eyed with wonder collection. Trostâs voice is high and calm and uninflected, a la Julee Cruise; she could be singing for children. âBlue Fish,â the one from the Flux Gourmet soundtrack, proceeds in a stately, harpsichord-ish fashion, its weirdness (which, by all accounts, echoes the film) subterranean, unconfrontational and unsettling. Trost works again with her husband and Hawk and Hacksaw Partner, Julian Barnes, to create tiny, glowing paradises that are just a little off. Â

Use Knife â The Shedding of Skin (Viernulvier)
youtube
Use Knife started out as a Belgian modular synth duo, but before this, their debut album, they met Brussels-based Iraqi musician Saif Al-Qaissy, who quickly became part of the band. The Shedding of Skin definitely still has plenty of that original focus on analogue, outsider electronic music, but a significant and successful infusion of influences, forms, and instruments from Arabic music gives the trip real distinctiveness and bite. Mixed at Montrealâs Hotel2Tango by Jerusalem in My Heartâs Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (who also plays buzuk and synth on the Coil-esque centrepiece âTo Feed the Gentryâ), the six songs here (including a brief, yearning reading of traditional song âEd Wana Edâ) aim somewhere between the club and the experimental atelier, or possibly some kind of ritual space. The real success here is making music that feels like it would work equally well in any of those areas, even if youâre just listening on headphones.

Yard Act Vs. Mad Professor â âPour Moreâ (Rough Trade)
youtube
Post-punkâs affinity for dub goes right back to Public Image Ltd.âs earliest experiments fucking around on Richard Bransonâs dime (RIP Keith Levene), so there shouldnât have been any shocked faces in the house hearing how Leedsâ Yard Act enlisted legendary producer Mad Professor to remix The Overload as The Overdub (natch). The latter â whoâs worked with Lee âScratchâ Perry, Sly and Robbie, Sade and Massive Attack â gives âPour Anotherâ the dub touch by minimizing James Smithâs garrulous observations and emphasizing the rhythm section in a rework that wouldnât sound out of place at a DFA party 20 years ago or upstairs at Ericâs 20 years before that. Available exclusively on vinyl through Rough Trade at the moment, but like everything else, thatâll surely change in due course.
Patrick Masterson Â
Yleiset Syyt â Toisten Todellisuus (La Vida Es Un Mus)
Toisten Todellisuus by Yleiset Syyt
This raucous compilation release from rousing punks Yleiset Syyt may have you flashing on 1984 â not for the street punk vibes (although you can hear some echoes of Oi! in this Finnish bandâs sing-along choruses), more so for the thrilling realization that many 1980s kids (ahem) had upon reading the international scene reports in MRR. âHoly shit! Thereâs hardcore bands in Ljubljana! A-and in Helsinki!â Yep, still are, as this record evidences, and Yleiset Syyt are a mighty outfit. The band synthesizes some of the best elements of street punk, melodic hardcore and anarcho-punk, creating songs with hummable parts and lots of lose-your-shit moshpit moments. Toisten Todellisuus (roughly âthe reality of othersâ) includes the bandâs S/T EP from 2019 and Umpikujamekanismi from 2021, for 20 minutes of unstoppable punk energy. These Laplanders play fast and hard, providing as much pleasure as punishment in their tough tunes. Check out the killer guitar work in âBileet Ohiâ and the crazy great riffs in âJatkuvaa Sotaa.â Punkâs not dead, America. Better listen up.

raquel rodriguez x reader where reader gets home to find raquel playing with her nephew and makes her realize she wants a baby?
A family of my own ||Â Raquel Rodriguez x Reader
Summary: While visiting Raquel's family you realise you want to start a family with her.
The warm Mexican sun hung low in the sky as you stepped out of the small convenience store, a bag of groceries in hand. You were visiting Raquel's family in Mexico, and the trip had been a whirlwind of new experiences and warm family gatherings. This day was no different.
As you made your way back to the house, the vibrant colors of the flowers and the sweet scent of blooming citrus trees filled the air. It was a picturesque afternoon, and it made you feel grateful for the chance to be here with Raquel.
Approaching the house, you heard the sound of laughter, echoing from the backyard. Curious, you walked around to the back, and there, your heart did a somersault.
Raquel was in the backyard, sitting on the grass, with her young nephew. They were playing with colorful building blocks, and the pure joy on both their faces was evident. Raquel's laughter, her eyes sparkling, her smile wide, all of it tugged at your heartstrings.
You leaned against the doorframe, unnoticed for a moment, just taking in the scene. And then, like a whisper from your heart, it struck you like a lightning bolt - you wanted this. You wanted to build a life, a family, with Raquel.
The realization washed over you like a wave, warm and comforting. It was a deep yearning that you hadn't been aware of until this very moment. You wanted to share these precious moments, to experience the joys of family, of laughter and love with Raquel.
Seeing her with her nephew, witnessing the happiness she exuded, you knew that she was the one with whom you wanted to build a future. It was a future filled with family, love, and countless more moments like this one.
Quietly, you stepped forward, catching Raquel's eye. Her gaze met yours, and the depth of emotion you saw in her eyes mirrored your own. It was a silent understanding, a shared dream.
Later that evening, under the starry Mexican sky, you sat together on the porch, wrapped in each other's arms. The world around you faded into the background as you shared your thoughts and dreams.
With a soft smile, Raquel confessed, "You know, I've always wanted a family of my own."
You squeezed her hand gently, and a warm, contented feeling filled your heart. "Me too, Raquel. Me too."
In that moment, as the stars above twinkled and the night whispered secrets, you both knew that the future you dreamed of was just beginning to take shape.

Only Mami For Me
Pairing: Jealous Rhea Ripley x Reader
Word count: 1549
My masterlist :)
......................................................
The WWE locker room was buzzing with its usual pre-show energy. Superstars were getting ready for their matches, trainers were moving about, and the general hustle and bustle filled the air. Rhea was tying up her boots, her mind focused on her upcoming match. But a conversation happening a few feet away caught her attention.
A group of male wrestlers was huddled together, speaking in hushed tones. Rheaâs curiosity piqued when she heard your name mentioned.
âIâm telling you, Y/N is the hottest on the roster,â one of them said, his tone filled with admiration.
âIâd give anything for a night with her,â another chimed in, causing the others to chuckle.
Rheaâs jaw clenched, her hands balling into fists as she listened. The more they talked about you in that way, the more her blood boiled. She couldnât believe the audacity of these guys to talk about you like that, as if you were just some object for their entertainment.
âI bet sheâs amazing in bed,â another one added, a suggestive grin spreading across his face.
That was the final straw for Rhea. She stood up, her eyes narrowing as she glared at the group. Her vision tunnelled with anger, and she felt her heart racing in her chest. She was about to storm over and give them a piece of her mind, but Damian grabbed her arm just in time.
âRhea, donât,â Damian said in a low voice, trying to calm her down. âItâs not worth it. You know how these guys are. They talk crap all the time.â
Rhea took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She knew Damian was right, but the jealousy and anger coursing through her veins were hard to shake. âThey have no right to talk about her like that,â she muttered, her voice tight with frustration.
âI know,â Damian replied, releasing her arm once he was sure she wasnât going to start a fight. âBut youâve got to be smart about this. Donât give them the satisfaction of knowing they got under your skin.â
Rhea sighed, nodding reluctantly. She knew Damian was right. Picking a fight with the guys wouldnât solve anything. It would only make things worse, drawing unwanted attention and possibly getting her into trouble with management. Still, she couldnât just let it go. She needed to see you, to make sure you were okay, even though she knew you probably hadnât heard any of what was being said.
As she made her way down the hallway, she spotted you up ahead, leaning against a wall and laughing with Raquel GonzĂĄlez. Raquel was standing close, her eyes sparkling as she chatted with you. Rheaâs stomach twisted at the sight. It wasnât that she didnât trust youâshe trusted you with her life. But after what she had just heard, her emotions were running high, and seeing you with someone else, even if it was just Raquel, stung more than she cared to admit.
She slowed her pace, watching as Raquel leaned in closer to you, her expression friendly but with an edge of something more. You were giggling at something Raquel had said, your smile bright and genuine, and it made Rheaâs heart ache with a strange mixture of love and insecurity.
âSo, Y/N,â Raquel said, her voice carrying over to where Rhea was standing, âhow about we do some training together over the weekend? I think itâd be a lot of fun.â
Before you could respond, Rhea stepped forward, her presence commanding as she inserted herself into the conversation. âActually, Y/Nâs not interested,â she said, her tone firm and leaving no room for argument.
Raquel looked taken aback, her brows raising in surprise. âOh, I didnât realiseââ
âItâs fine,â you interrupted quickly, sensing the tension. âMaybe another time, Raquel.â
Raquel nodded, giving Rhea a curious look before stepping back. âYeah, sure. Iâll catch you later, Y/N.â She gave you a small wave and walked away, leaving you and Rhea standing in the hallway.
You turned to Rhea, your brow furrowed in confusion. âWhat was that all about?â
Rhea sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. She suddenly felt a little foolish for how she had reacted, but she couldnât help it. âIâm sorry, love,â she muttered, her gaze dropping to the floor. âI just⌠I overheard some guys in the locker room talking about you, saying some really inappropriate things. It pissed me off.â
Your expression softened, and you reached out, placing a gentle hand on her arm. âWhat were they saying?â
Rhea looked up, her eyes meeting yours. âThey were talking about how much theyâd love to, you know⌠get in your pants,â she admitted, her voice tight with frustration. âAnd then I saw you with Raquel, and I just⌠I couldnât stand the thought of anyone else trying to take you away from me.â
A small smile tugged at your lips as you listened to her. You could see the insecurity and worry in her eyes, and it tugged at your heart. âRhea,â you said softly, stepping closer to her, âyou donât have to worry about anyone else. I only have eyes for you. Nobody else compares to you, Mami.â
Rheaâs tense shoulders relaxed slightly at your words, but she still looked uncertain. âI just⌠I donât want to lose you,â she admitted, her voice almost a whisper.
You reached up, cupping her face in your hands and gently stroking her cheeks with your thumbs. âYouâre not going to lose me, Rhea. Iâm yours and yours alone. I donât care what anyone else says or does. I love you, and nothingâs going to change that.â
Rhea closed her eyes, leaning into your touch as she let out a slow, relieved breath. âI love you too, Y/N. More than anything.â
You smiled, leaning up to press a soft kiss to her lips. âGood. Because youâre stuck with me.â
Rhea chuckled, a genuine smile breaking through her previously tense expression. âI wouldnât have it any other way.â

The Next Show
The following week, you decided to do something special to show Rhea just how much she meant to you. As you arrived at the arena for the next show, you had a secret plan in mind. You had commissioned a custom shirt just for this occasion, and you couldnât wait to see Rheaâs reaction.
As you made your way through the backstage area, you spotted Rhea talking with Damian Priest and Finn BĂĄlor. She hadnât seen you yet, and you took the opportunity to pull on the shirt, making sure it was clearly visible.
The shirt was simple, black with bold white letters that read: âI â¤ď¸ Mamiâ. The design was cheeky but sincere, a perfect representation of how you felt about Rhea.
You took a deep breath, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves, and walked over to where Rhea was standing. As you approached, Damian and Finn noticed you first, their eyes widening in surprise at the sight of your shirt.
âOh, wow,â Damian said, smirking as he nudged Rhea. âLooks like someoneâs got a fan.â
Rhea turned to look at you, her expression initially confused before her eyes landed on your shirt. The moment she read the words, her face broke into a wide, disbelieving smile. âAre you serious?â she asked, her voice filled with laughter.
You grinned, doing a little spin to show off the shirt. âWhat do you think? Figured it was time to let everyone know that they donât stand a chance. Nobody compares to you, Mami.â
Rheaâs smile softened, and you could see the genuine happiness in her eyes. She reached out, pulling you into a tight hug and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. âYouâre amazing, you know that?â
You looked up at her, your heart swelling with love. âI just wanted to make you smile. You deserve to know how much you mean to me.â
Rhea kissed your forehead, her arms still wrapped around you. âYou make me the happiest person in the world, Y/N. Thank you.â
As the two of you stood there, wrapped up in each other, you could feel the eyes of everyone around you watching. But you didnât care. You wanted the whole world to know that you were Rheaâs, and she was yours.
As you broke apart from the hug, Rhea took your hand, her thumb gently rubbing over your knuckles. âYou know, wearing that shirt out there is going to stir up a lot of talk,â she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
You shrugged, a playful grin on your face. âLet them talk. Iâm proud to be yours, and I want everyone to know it. Besides, itâs about time I showed off my favourite person.â
Rheaâs cheeks flushed slightly, a rare sight that made your heart flutter. âYou always know just what to say to make me feel special,â she murmured, leaning down to press another kiss to your lips.
The moment was interrupted by Finn, who cleared his throat dramatically. âAs much as I love seeing you two all lovey-dovey, weâve got a show to put on, remember?â
You laughed, pulling back from Rhea but still keeping your hand in hers. âYeah, yeah, weâre coming. Canât keep the fans waiting, right?â

LUCY VISITS JACK BENNY
S1;E2 ~ September 30, 1968
Synopsis
Lucy sees an ad for a bargain vacation in Palm Springs and decides to take the kids away for the  weekend. Not able to resist a bargain, Harry tags along. When they get there, they discover that the place is run by Hollywood's most notorious cheapskate, Jack Benny, who nickles and dimes the foursome for the duration of their stay. Â
Directed by Jack Donohue ~ Written by Milt Josefsberg and Ray Singer
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carter)l, Gale Gordon (Harrison Otis Carter), Lucie Arnaz (Kim Carter), Desi Arnaz Jr. (Craig Carter)
Guest Cast
Jack Benny (Himself) was born on Valentineâs day 1894. He had a successful vaudeville career, and an even greater career on radio with âThe Jack Benny Programâ which also became a successful television show. His screen persona was known for being a penny-pincher and playing the violin. Benny was a Beverly Hills neighbor of Lucille Ballâs and the two were off-screen friends. Benny previously appeared on âThe Lucy Showâ as Harry Tuttle (a Jack Benny doppelganger) in âLucy and the Plumberâ (TLS S3;E2), did a voice over cameo as himself in âLucy With George Burnsâ (TLS S5;E1), and played himself in âLucy Gets Jack Benny's Accountâ (TLS S6;E6). This is the first of his three episodes of âHereâs Lucy.â Â Benny and Ball appeared on many TV variety and award shows together. He died in 1974.
Sid Gould (Sam, Tour Guide) made more than 45 appearances on âThe Lucy Show,â all as background characters. This is the first of his 40 episodes of âHereâs Lucy.â Gould (born Sydney Greenfader) was Lucille Ballâs cousin by marriage to Gary Morton.
Jackie Gleason (Ralph Kramden, Tour Bus Driver, uncredited) was born in 1916. Â He became one of America's most recognized all-around entertainers but is perhaps best remembered for his iconic character of bus driver Ralph Kramden on âThe Honeymoonersâ which was seen on CBS just like âI Love Lucy.â Â On âThe Lucy Showâ Lucy Carmichael frequently referred to Gleason even borrowing his âAway we goâ exit in a couple of episodes. Â In 1975 Gleason teamed with Lucille Ball for the CBS TV film âThree for Two.â Â He died in 1987. Â Â
Don Anderson (Man on Tour, uncredited) was seen in the last two episodes of âThe Lucy Showâ as well as making three appearances on âHereâs Lucy.â Â
James Gonzales (Man on Tour, uncredited) was a popular Hollywood extra who first acted with Lucille Ball in the 1953 The Long, Long Trailer. He was previously seen on âThe Lucy Showâ as Stan Williams in âLucy Digs Up a Dateâ (TLS S1;E2). He was seen in more than 20 episodes of âThe Lucy Showâ and 3 episodes of âHereâs Lucy.â
Monty O'Grady (Man on Tour, uncredited) was first seen with Lucille Ball in The Long, Long Trailer (1953) and played a passenger on the S.S. Constitution in âSecond Honeymoonâ (ILL S5;E14). He was a traveler at the airport when âThe Ricardos Go to Japanâ (1959). He made more than a dozen appearances on âThe Lucy Showâ and a half dozen more on âHereâs Lucy.â Â
Joan Carey (Woman on Tour, right, uncredited) was one of the few actors to appear in all of Lucille Ballâs sitcoms. She was a background performer on âI Love Lucy,â and was Ballâs camera and lighting stand-in during âThe Lucy Show.â She will be glimpsed in future episodes background of âHereâs Lucy.â [citation thanks to The Lucy Lounge]
Uncredited background performers play the other tourists. Â
âHere's Lucyâ head writer Milt Josefsberg had been one of Jack Benny's writers, accounting for the sharp dialogue and frequency of Benny's guest appearances.
When Harry questions how Lucy can afford a weekend in Palm Springs, Lucy says âOn what you pay me I can't afford ten minutes in Cucamonga.â Cucamonga is a suburban city situated at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains 37 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles. Cucamonga became well known to fans of Jack Bennyâs radio program, in which announcer Mel Blanc would call out: âTrain leaving on track five for Anaheim, Azusa and Cu-camonga!â Blanc also said the city's name as Bugs Bunny in the Warner Brothers cartoons. Â Cucamonga was mentioned in âLucy Helps the Countessâ (TLS S4;E8) and âLucy and the Soap Operaâ (TLS S4;E19).Â
Benny's guest register lists past guest Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Peck, Howard Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lemmon, Mr. and Mrs. Steve McQueen, and Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Douglas, and Sheikh Bin Abdulla Fouad and wife and wife and wife and wife and wife. Â Kirk Douglas made a cameo appearance in âLucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiereâ (TLS S4;E20, above photo) and was a long-time resident of Palm Springs. Â Gregory Peck was mentioned (but never seen) on two episodes of âI Love Lucy.â Sheikh Bin Abdulla Fouad (1925-2015) was a real-life businessman, although his name is clearly being used for comic effect based on the Arab tradition of having multiple wives. Â
Benny tells Harry that his room is more expensive but that it overlooks Raquel Welch's patio. Â When he learns that she sunbathes every day, miserly Harry eagerly agrees to the extra expense. Â Voluptuous sex symbol Raquel Welch had three films in release in 1968. Â Welch was also a real-life resident of Palm Springs. [Above photo is not from the episode. Â Welch does not actually appear on the show!]
The desert city of Palm Springs was a favorite get-away spot for the Arnaz family. Â Lucy, Desi, and their children had a home there and it was in Palm Springs that Desi chose to open a golf course and hotel, the Indian Wells Resort, which is still in business today. A statue to Lucille Ball is located in downtown Palm Springs. Â Lucie Arnaz and her husband Laurence Luckinbill recently relocated from Connecticut to Palm Springs. Â
Jack Benny only charges $3 a night for rooms, but adds on 'extra charges':
$1 an hour for binoculars
50 cents for golf ball retrieval
10 cents for picking an orange from his tree
Swimming is free, but 11 cents for towels (10 cents for the towel, one cent for tax)
When Lucy balks at paying a penny tax, Benny replies âGo fight with Ronald Reagan!â  Former Hollywood actor Ronald Reagan had been elected Governor of California in 1967, a position he held until 1975.  He was later elected 40th President of the United States and served until 1989.  Jack Benny did three episodes of âGeneral Electric Theatreâ (1953-1964) which was an anthology series hosted by Ronald Reagan. Ball met President Reagan when she was honored by The Kennedy Center Honors in 1986 (above).  No word whether they discussed taxes! Â
Nearly sitting on Jack Benny's famous violin, Lucy says that as a little girl she took five or six lessons. Â Naturally she plays like a virtuoso but her performance is obviously mimed to pre-recorded music. Â Lucille Ball had a rudimentary knowledge of the violin, which she learned for âThe Lucy Showâ (above photo) but the âHereâs Lucyâ gag relied upon extremely difficult and technical playing that was well beyond her capabilities. Â
When Kim and Craig are playing table tennis, Lucie Arnaz seems to ad lib the line âHe plays like Lawrence Welk.â The scene required Desi to hit the ball over the fence. Â Because the gag needed several volleys to get the timing right, it is possible Lucie felt the scene was getting dull and needed some vocal interest. Lawrence Welk was a popular bandleader and television personality who was frequently mentioned on âThe Lucy Show.â Â He will play himself on a 1970 episode of âHere's Lucy.â Â
Jack Benny tells Lucy that he is going on tour with Clyde McCoy, trumpet player and they will be billed as âBenny and Clyde.â Â The line is an obvious pun on the title of the Oscar-winning 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. Clyde McCoy (1903-1990) was jazz trumpeter whose popularity spanned seven decades. He is best remembered for his theme song, "Sugar Blues" written by Clarence Williams and Lucy Fletcher, as well as being the co-founder of Down Beat magazine in 1935. In 1951, Down Beat was parodied on âI Love Lucyâ as Half Beat magazine in âMen are Messyâ (ILL S1;E8). Â
While preparing dinner Benny hums a bit of his theme song âLove in Bloomâ by Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin.
The Tour Guide (Sid Gould, in his first of many series appearances) says they are late because âBob Hope did more jokes than usual.â  Bob Hope was a long-time comedy partner of Lucille Ball's doing four films with the redhead as well as appearing on âI Love Lucyâ and âThe Lucy Showâ (also with Jack Benny). Hope was also a resident of Palm Springs.
Benny charges each of the tourists one dollar for a hot dog or hamburger, a tour of the house, and an autographed photo. Â When bus driver Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) enters, the underscoring plays the theme from âThe Honeymoonersâ by Sammy Spear. Â As the episode fades out Gleason utters his iconic catch phrase: âHow sweet it is!â Â
Palm Springs, California, was featured in 1955â˛s âIn Palm Springsâ (ILL S4;E26) starring Rock Hudson and 1966â˛s âLucy and Carol in Palm Springsâ (TLS S5;E8) starring Carol Burnett. Â
Golf is what attracted Desi Arnaz to Palm Springs. The game, always good for a few laughs when Lucy is playing, was featured in 1954â˛s âThe Golf Gameâ (ILL S3;E30) and 1964â˛s âLucy Takes Up Golfâ (TLS S2;E17) both of which starred Jimmy Demaret and Vivian Vance.               Â
When Harry rings the doorbell at Lucyâs home, Lucy squints and peers at the opaque glass and solid wood door as if she could see through it and tell who is on the other side. Â Sure enough, she is right! Â
After hearing Lucy read the alluring newspaper ad for the Palm Springs accommodations, Harry remarks on what a bargain it is â despite that fact that Lucy never mentioned the actual price. Â He doesn't learn the rate until he arrives there, after driving more than 100 miles! Â
When Jackie Gleason comes out onto the patio, a few of the tourist extras look shocked and delighted to see him. Â If he was their tour bus driver, they should not be all that surprised at his presence. Â Gleason probably did not rehearse with the extras, who may have been kept in the dark about âthe great one'sâ cameo and been taken aback at his last minute walk-on role. Â This has been hailed as one of the greatest cameos in television history. Â
âLucy Visits Jack Bennyâ rates 5 Paper Hearts out of 5
The payoff for this very funny star-driven episode is the cameo by Jackie Gleason. Â

On Gonzales Vs Monet for the Women's Championship from this week's NXT and the subject of character dilemmas.
Why am I choosing to start here? Well, because I can, and I don't see the value in preamble. Plus, it gives me a chance to expand on a point it inspired me to want to talk about
So, I honestly thought this match was pretty good, but the detractor for me was that Raquel seems to be kinda serving two masters, character-wise.
Is she the valiant babyface getting beat down by the vicious heel? Or is she still the physically superior villain asserting herself?
When Raquel drops the gold and if/when she moves to RAW/SD, that's something I feel you need to iron out, cause it'll put this weird funk on her matches otherwise.
'Cause, here's my thing, her matches with Rhea last year showed that (much like her), Raquel's quite good at bumping/selling better than you'd expect of a woman of her stature.
So if you wanted to put your foot down on writing her as a full babyface, you could. It's the halfway house we have at present that kills it.
Which leads me to something I'll happily put Triple H and/or Shawn on blast for: trying to make Raquel a babyface in the Dakota feud was a silly notion.
Not on the whole "How could you boo Dakota?" level, but just the idea that strong, imposing champion Raquel should have been the hero wronged.
Follow Sasha/Bayley: don't try to redeem either of them when they've both been up to pretty nefarious shit.
Let the betrayal and the match run their course and just push Raquel onward as someone with a chip on her shoulder about doing it herself and her own way going forward.
Hell, you could have based this Franky programme on the notion that Raquel feels herself superior considering she's doing on her own what Franky feels she needs Rob and Jessi to do.
But now, I feel I'm losing the run of myself a bit so I'll settle it there. Good stuff, could have been better. Interesting to see Toxic Attraction poking their noses in and interested to see who else (if anyone) follows Mandy into the title scene.

Barefoot Wrestling Federation - WWE NXT - November 25th, 2020
Candice LeRae vs. Ember Moon
"How sweet of you to let me beat you earlier. I've been looking forward to this, Ember.~" Candice cooed as she examined her handiwork. Ember frowned at LeRae, adorned in her black and red bra and panties, wrists and biceps secured directly above her head as her legs were mummified with saran wrap. Her waist was tied down, as were her ankles. Her toes were left free for now, scrunched and curled as Candice began to straddle the lap of her prey as she lay bound on the bed.
Ember took deep breaths. On one hand, she would accept this as a test of her will and resolve to handle being tickle tortured by somebody as cruel as Candice LeRae. On the other hand, she couldn't stand Candice and felt rather ashamed that she allowed herself to be beaten. She was a warrior of pride, however, and accepted her fate. "You wouldn't have beaten me if it weren't for your cronies. I should have known better, you wouldn't have fought a fair fight. But you won't get the better of me a second time tonight.."
Candice smirked at Ember's response before pressing her nails into the sides of her unfortunate lee. "We'll see about that, Emby.~" She winked, causing a blush to spread across Moon's cheeks before they began to contort from her lips cracking into a smile. Candice had sharp nails, painted a silvery blue as they began to rake around on Ember's sides and ribs. Ember quickly realized how little she could move, maybe an inch or two here or there, but not nearly enough to twist even the tiniest bit away from LeRae's nails. "A-Ahahah..! I shahall.. Ehendure..!" Ember challenged. Candice's smirk grew wider and more wicked. "I enjoy a challenge.~"
Her nails would slip into the bare and exposed underarms of her victim, which she knew was a severe weak spot on her target. Ember's eyes widened, her body tensed in preparation but there was nothing she could do. Not when those nails began to slowly spider and skitter into those outstretched hollows. "I - W-Wahahait a mihihinute..! CahaHAHANDICE..!" Ember squealed out as her head shoved itself into the mattress, fingers twitching as they tried to grab at their binds, lips forced to spread themselves wide against their will, all while Candice smiled devilishly at her unfortunate lee. "Does it tickle? Is poor Emby Wemby too tickly to handle such smooth, delicate armpits tickled with my mean old nails?~"
"I-I.. I..!" Ember didn't want to admit it.. She refused to acknowledge such ridiculous claims.. She refused to accept the nails sliding up and down her smooth armpits was cracking her resolve.. Or the fact that she would give anything in the world to have the privilege of lowering her arms.. Or the fact that if she had to take one single second more ot this maddening torment, she would scream.. "A-AhhhhHHAHAHAH OKOK YEHES YEHES IHIT IHIS TOHOO MUHUCH..!"
Ember expected Candice to resume the horrible armpit torture until she cried, but to her blissful surprise, it stopped. Her hair was already frazzled her breath heavy as she took in this merciful relief. "Oh, Emby.. That was not too much for you to handle.. You're going to endure much worse..~" She whispered into the ear of her victim, Ember tugging harder and feeling desperate. Candice hummed and sat up and reached for a bottle of baby oil.. This made Ember actually beg.." N-No.. What are you doing..?! P-Please..!"
The next sensation Ember felt was excruciating. Her armpits were already incredibly sensitive, and the combination of her helplessness, the baby oil and Candice's nails was absolutely maddening. She quickly fell into a fit of silent laughter before letting out a sharp scream at the sensation of an electric toothbrush buzzing inyo the hollow of her right pit, which distracted her from the flosser that would buzz into her left. "O-OH GOHOD PLEHEASE! PLEHEASE STAHAHAP! STAHAHAPPIT! I-I CAHAN'T DOHO THIHIS! CAHANANDICE PLEHEASE!"
Candice smiled having broken Ember Moon of all people. She felt accomplished and proud of herself. But she wasn't done yet. Now, the following ten minutes of uninterrupted armpit torture was not easy for Ember to handle, but Candice didn't care. This was about her accomplishments, not Ember's.. As Ember suffered and Candice finally stopped, the poor lee felt dizzy and lightheaded. She couldn't take anymore.. "Please.. Candice.. No more.. I can't handle it.. You beat me.. Please.. I.." Candice interrupted her pleading with an index finger shushing her victim. "Don't speak. You need that voice for what I'm about to force your feet to be subjected to.~"
Ember was too weak to struggle, but her toes stayed curled and her soles stayed scrunched up as Candice began to reposition herself towards the feet of her victim. One by one, she pried back those toes and tied them up, drawing the process out at an agonizing pace so Ember would have no choice but to imagine what would become of her sanity. Baby oil was applied and slipped into the crevices of her wrinkles and in between her toes, LeRae's soft palms massaging the substance into the plush soles of her prisoner. Ember had never been this terrified during a tickle session. She was strong, she had willpower, but this? Candice had become sadistic.. "Poor Emby.. So strong.. Yet so pathetically weak compared to me..~"
Ember wanted to stay silent, knowing that talking back would offer no reward aside from further torment.. But how much worse could it be..? Candice had broken het resolve.. Her sanity.. Her pride.. There was nothing Candice was capable of to break Ember more.. "You.. Rely on others to do your dirty work.. And cannot handle me.. Woman to woman.."
Candice paused. Silent for a moment. "You're right." She spoke. Ember was surprised yet again tonight.. "I did not beat you by myself. I relied on other people to do so." She sat up and walked near the door to the hotel room.. "I relied on these people..~" She opened the door and Ember's heart sank.. "No.. No no no! That's against the rules! You can't! Not that! Anything but that! Please!" Ember begged as if her life depended on it.. As Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzales, Indi Hartwell and.. Heartbreakingly.. Toni Storm walked in..
Candice gripped Moon's cheeks as the door was closed and locked, tears in her eyes.. "I decide what the rules are." She spoke firmly, Ember was soon gagged and blindfolded and scared for her life at this point..
She never suffered as much as she had before they started.
Raquel and Idni each focussed on a different armpit, Dakota tickling with wild abandon in random places all over Ember's body, and Candice and Toni gave specific attention to her feet.. Ravaged by fingernails, brushes, flossers, pinwheels.. Ember suffered and cried.. Her entire body tormented for every giggle she was worth..
Tortured and broken, Ember was in an existence where all that mattered was her misery.. She swore to herself in this unbearable world of agony.. She would have her revenge at WarGames..
