Excellent choice, Pixel! I love talking about my boy

How I feel about this character:

He is my special boy! He's a squishy lil guy who also musters up just enough responsibility to be sad. Poor boy/aff. I also relate to him just a little too much to justify not going to therapy.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Raph x therapy. My boy needs to talk to someone, and also get some anxiety meds. I don't mind the ships of him with Casey Jones, but I prefer other Casey ships (cough Capril cough).

My non romantic OTP for this character:

Raph and Mikey are such a good duo when we stop boiling it down to "overprotective worrywart and independent baby". The two of them create CHAOS. They're also just so sweet together. The SWSA Sunset AU where Mikey and Raph gets kidnapped instead focuses a lot on their dynamic and it's made me appreciate how fun they are together.

Raph and April are such an overlooked duo too! They're both the older siblings and I wish they got more bonding moments of just the two of them.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Yes he has anxiety, yes he's technically the 'responsible one'. BUT STOP MAKING HIM THE VOICE OF REASON ALL THE TIME. Raph found a tube of technology and wanted to shove it up his nose. He likes having fun, like in the fashion episode where he's so happy his brothers like his outfit.

He's not his brothers' dad. He's the older brother, but he's still a kid too! Let him have fun! Let him be petty! Let him break! Let him make bad calls and feel insecure!

Also: he needs more angst that isn't directly tied to his brother. He's the strong one, crack his shell! Trap him under an awful weight! Make HIM get horribly sick. 👏 Torture 👏 the 👏 boy.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:

I really wish he'd lost that eye in the movie.

I wish we'd gotten more of Raph being 'weird' when he's alone. I wish those Tooth Fairies from Todd Scouts had come back later and kidnapped him and tried to harvest his teeth. You know, I could write a whump fic about that...

I wish the finale hadn't been so rushed and he could have had MORE of a breakdown, and that it had started earlier. Maybe starting in the Battle Nexus Wizbang, he doesn't come up with the idea for the Hibernater quite as soon because he's stressing about his brothers. He's so distracted that he gets very beat up before he and Ghostbear escape.

And then, in the finale, he's still failing to come up with a plan. He shuts down, cracking even more under the pressure. Not only does he cry and admit that he's failing them, he just starts crying and saying that he can't do it. He doesn't know how to solve this. April gives the "it's not all on you" speech but they're all still kinda worried about him. It would make Splinter's decision to make Leo the leader more obvious to everyone.

Just to tag on to this with a ramble:

I live in one of the towns that was targeted yesterday, and it was bad. I work for a fast food place in town, and the majority of my coworkers happen to be people of colour. I know someone with 2 kids who had to haul his family out of town to a relatives place because of the threats against children. Another coworker was locked in his house with his wife, mother, and sister because they could see fights outside and were terrified. I could go on and on.

Tons of local businesses got vandalised. A Indian owned vegan restaurant, the international store, a black owned cafe, a Turkish restaurant, a local Chinese place. There was glass everywhere. Smashed windows. You name it.

Before the riots were even scheduled to start, reports of attacks in Indian and black communities had already happened. When my coworker told me about the attacks on our local Gurdwara and Mosque, I felt a sadness I couldn't even explain with words. It was deep and shameful to think that we could come to this point as a society. Somehow, even worse, my coworkers wife actually worked at our local hospital- which was also being attacked because the majority of the staff are from immigrant backgrounds. Read that again... people working in the NHS who are notoriously overworked and underpaid being attacked in a HOSPITAL because of their skin colour.

All this is to say real people were affected by this. I've seen videos of people in my town, near my favourite cafes, or near a bus stop I often use, being beaten to a pulp by fascists in black hoodies and masks wrapped in England flags.

The idea that people are utilising this as some stupid political win is fucking beyond disgusting. It is not fair to subject anyone to that fear. The worst part is that I noticed there were fewer police vans about then there usually are when we have a football match on.

Please have people of colour in your hearts and extend your support. It was absolutely terrifying to think that all these people I loved could be attacked by racist thugs and that's just an accepted part of a "political war." Have your friends of colour in your minds during this time.

i feel like people are skimming over the uk riots in a way that makes me want to tear my hair out. muslims in the uk are in active danger. immigrants in the uk are in active danger. refugees in the uk are in active danger. people of colour in the uk are in active danger. asian communities in the uk are in active danger. black communities in the uk are in active danger.

there are massive far right riots throughout the country right now and people like fucking elon musk and nigel farage are inciting it and still have a platform to speak. people have used three young girls deaths, people's genuine grief in southport, to try and gain traction for their own racist bullshit and it's working.

a lot of refugee charities have been forced to close leaving many people without support, homes, funding, food, etc. if you aren't able to donate please consider sending a message via the conversation over borders campaign! it will send a hopeful, welcoming letter to a refugee in the uk. there is also a guide to staying safe here.

please do your own research and donate to refugee charities, anti-islamophobia charities, mosques who are trying to rebuild after being destroyed, counter protesters, here are some i've heard positive things about but the list is extensive; southport strong together (support for the southport victims and their families), emergency unity fund, southport mosque rebuilding, riot repair fund, middlesbrough vulnerable residents, nasir mosque rebuilding, hull help for refugees, bristol welcomes migrants,

Au Kids - Raphie

After figuring out the Au Kids properly, I am now ready to make + post their new and updated info sheets! This time with Raphie!

With a lazy and irresponsible brother like Lee, it's up to Raphie to take care of the two younger siblings when they're out. But even he is prone to show his energetic and wild side every so often, leaving his younger siblings to stop him from getting into trouble.

After an incident left him partially deaf as a child, Raphie's been wearing hearing aids to compensate for the hearing loss he experiences. Luckily that doesn't stop his adventurous and curious spirit.

I know this makes me sound desperate for traction on my account but PLEASE reblog artists work! Regardless of if my art gets 20 notes or 500 notes the majority of those notes are likes. Likes, unfortunately, do not help boost an artists work besides in the already small circle its trapped in. The only way art (or any post) travels in any sort of way to other peoples dashes is by reblogs. This is not like Instagram or Twitter where likes play into an algorithm - literally the only way people see my art is if you reblog it to your blog and tag so others see it.

It just frustrates me because of course I can see that people are liking and enjoying my art - which is greatly appreciated - but regularly my art never travels because those people who like don't reblog. I get you dont want every post you like on your blog and that's fine - but this is a hugely overwhelming issue I've seen with so many arts and bloggers in general wherein new users who have recently migrated don't understand that liking does essentially nothing for the artists account or interactions. Please please please reblog artists work!!!! It will never get seen otherwise! While I don't do commissions often myself, so many artists completely rely on their work for their income and its so important that their platforms are boosted through reblogs <3

Strength

Rise Ramblings #565

While watching the show, I realized that we don’t really get to see the boys’ true strength very often. Yes, we see their Ninpo at work, especially towards the end of the series, but I believe that outside of their Ninpo there is so much more to these boys than meets the eye.  

When thinking about raw strength, it’s easy to say something like “Yeah, Raph is the strongest.” And for good reason...

He is the one that works out the most.

His build is the largest and the most intimidating.

Often times we see him picking up, carrying, or tossing his brothers around, no problem.

And that’s why this big guy gives the best hugs.

But the main reason why he's seen as the strongest is because he’s the one generally seen picking up the most impossibly heavy objects.

Although, he does have his limits.

Yes, Raph is the strongest, but that does not negate the strength of the rest of the bros.

The physical abilities of the other three are nothing to sneeze at, especially since they were all originally created to be weapons. (See “What Was Meant To Be” for more on that subject.)

Take Mikey for instance.

Of all of the boys, you wouldn’t think of Mikey as particularly strong, but here he is shoulder pressing one of his brothers for fun.

And flinging the boy in plum.

What about Leo? Sure, we never really see him exert himself, especially when it comes to weightlifting or exercise, but I can’t help but notice how much he tends to carry his little brother.

Furthermore, Leo doesn't just carry Mikey, but throws him around as well.

But I believe the one that low key shows off his strength the most is Purple.

(It might have something to do with his overall lack of restraint, but I digress.)

He easily carries his brother when he needs to.

And more impressively, he throws Mikey like nobody’s business using his bow staff and his own brawn.

Speaking of his staff, if this is true:

Then what do we make of this instance?

Yes, the staff was already semi-broken, but does he go on to completely demolish the titanium staff in frustration with his bare hands? (Kudos to @theaphaeon for pointing this out!)

You be the judge.

Nonetheless, for me, what really proves Donatello’s strength are these scenes:

Donnie doesn’t just carry out this feat once, but twice!

Not only does Donnie hold up the combined weight of ALL of his brothers, but he does it via one leg. For a normal person, if all of that weight was put on one leg they would be severely injured. But for Donnie, this is just a silly mode of travel with his beloved bros. Meanwhile, his jet pack is struggling under the combined weight of all four turtles...

All-in-all, I just wanted to really highlight the turtles' physical strength and remind myself that strength is not just a Raphie thing, but something that stems across all of the turtle teens.

Getting stranded in a unfamiliar world sucks, especially if you're used to wearing clothes and the only ones you have with you, are the ones you're currently wearing.

Luckily the canon turtles were able to give their counterparts some change of clothes to wear while they're stranded, even if it's oversized.

For medical reasons Don is not in this picture.
