While these are some super cool commanders, I think some of the other commanders in the set are also worth a mention:
Vren goes nuts with something as simple as a Grave Pact, and just gets more and more disgusting the more stuff you add. Braids? Sure, why not. Lord skitter? But of course. Marrow Gnawer? You've practically won. Then you start tossing in Accursed Marauder, Rankle Master of Pranks, and two of the three Sheoldreds and things just get out of hand.
The Infamous Cruelclaw and Mr Foxglove are very similar, with the difference being that Cruelclaw goes off the top and has to discard, while Mr Foxglove needs things in hand but can also draw cards. Both of these are incredibly strong. Cruelclaw can turn that discard disadvantage into an advantage with things like Sheoldred Whispering One, Breach The Multiverse, and Sepulchral Primordial, turning one one free card into two or more. Meanwhile Mr Foxglove can do something similar with Ghalta Stampede Tyrant, Ojer Kaslem, and Kodama of the East Tree, as well as ensuring he'll always get his activation with an Ancient Silver Dragon or Jin-Gitaxias Core Augur.
Lastly is Flubs The Fool. He is just so incredibly versatile that it boggles the mind. He can do Discard, Landfall, Card Draw, Impulse Draw, Self-Mill, Chaos, Cheerios, Madness, Foretell, the list goes on and on and on. hell, if you wanted to be funny, this might be one of the only decks where Deck Of Many Things is viable. (Not necessarily good, mind you, but usable). Also, certified Silly Little Guy status.
bloomburrow might have the title for the strongest complete set of face commanders on average for any commander product. all four of these guys just have absurd lines of text on them.
Bello working off of both enchantments and artifacts is incredibly open-ended, and making each of them 4/4s with indestructable is by far the silliest part. the card gives you a lot of leeway. you can use both artifacts and enchantments for the best of both; they all are given haste, so you don't have to set up before you pop off; they all are given indestructible, so you're never punished for swinging board; they are each given an individual card draw instance, so you have plenty of cards to work with. bello is in my opinion the strongest of the bunch because he's so much more honest than the other three and still does all that!
Hazel is one of my favorite magic characters ever. god i love her. she's the face of my new golgari storm deck i'm excited to showcase at my table tonight :) in my opinion Hazel is so strong because she just does so much! mana? big check. she'll make all the mana you need as long as her and her army stick on the field. plus, she makes the army herself with the populate effect every end step! Hazel is technically the most restrictive of the four, requiring a tap to make mana and an end step to make tokens. however, Hazel's effects are so strong she doesnt care. Hazel is, in my opinion, the most versatile commander of the four. want a simple tokens deck packed with overrun effects? check, hazel makes two squirrels for each of your end steps and black and green are packed with solid big-board effects! want a value-pile populate deck? check, hazel can make a copy of any token every end step, and support the deck with her mana ability! want an aristocrats pile built around strong sacrificers? check, that's golgari's whole deal, and hazel turns the sac fodder thralls into mana and then makes more of them! want a combo-heavy spellslinger storm deck? check, Hazel has you covered in the mana department even if you run only 11 or so token making effects, allowing you to stack your deck with card draw to storm off! she can do a lot of things if you just build her in the right way, and she's definitely my favorite golgari commander of all time :3
Ms. Bumbleflower has. i mean. cmon. "Whenever you cast a spell, target opponent draws a card, then put a +1/+1 counter on target creature"? she is one of the best combo deck face commanders ever. any storm count spell loop can be implemented and if she's out she has the potential to make infinite value with the vast array of scurry oak effects, and even without them she will deck out your opponents unless they draw into a counterspell or removal piece. in this way i almost think ms. bumbleflower is too weak for cedh tables (who are running so many free counterspells and removal spells) but too strong at any other table; she's in a bit of a weird spot. still, ms. B could easily be a contender at a cedh table with how light of a touch she needs to pop off. i havent really explored ms. bumbleflower combo routes at all, but MH3's Evolution Witness comes to mind immediately: "Whenever one or more +1/+1 counters are put on Evolution Witness, return target permanent card from your graveyard to your hand." i'm almost sure theres a relevant permanent card that can be inserted in between those two girlies to deck out every opponent :P
finally, Zinnia. did you know that Hazel of the Rootbloom isn't even the strongest token-based face general in bloomburrow commander? this is because while hazel can make copies of any token, you have to first create the tokens yourself. furthermore, the vast majority of the tokens you copy in hazel are smaller, less useful simple tokens. Zinnia makes good tokens. any card in your hand with zinnia on the field can be copied for 2 mana, with the copy being a 1/1. we don't care about power and toughness though (least of all because Zinnia themselves becomes bigger with every new token, making it an effective threat without even trying), we want token copies of strong creatures with good abilities. a token copy of a creature can often be much stronger than a nontoken creature. this is because the tokens can be doubled, populated, and copied very easily! Hazel might make a big board of dorks that can be tapped for mana, but Zinnia makes a big board of threats that have strong and valuable abilities, especially in tandem with each other. if i was building the deck, i'd think Sakashima of a Thousand Faces would be a relevant include, copying creatures and offspringing himself for even more, while enabling legends that go infinite with a copy of themselves (my lovely Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate jumps to mind!) to be offspringed as well for a GG.
the bloomburrow face commanders are probably my favorite set of them we've ever had. id love to know your opinions: do you think this is the strongest overall set of face commanders? furthermore, what's your favorite set of face commanders? id love to hear! thanks for reading :D

Alela scoffed at her retinue of loyal faeries. With that single noise of dismissal, she silenced their questions. āRankle? Please. He and I always disagreed on the scope of our work. Furthermore, I see now that he would never have accepted the rightful place of this pitiful realm: beneath my heel! He and I were simply never meant to be.ā
ā
Meanwhile, in an otherworldly forest, Rankle sighed morosely to himself and raised a picture of Alela to his eye level.
āOh, my princess, why did you leave me? Iām so lost without you.ā
A tiny pixie flittered close and landed before the self-proclaimed master of pranks. She was relaxed, but her expression betrayed her concern as she addressed Rankle. āCāmon, boss, letās go raiding a village or something! That always cheers you up, right?ā
Rankle weakly waved a hand. āYou go on ahead. Without my dearest Alela, it just wouldnāt feel the same for me.ā
The pixie turned away and muttered under her breath, āAw geez, what a downer.ā
ā
Alela put a hand to her mouth and laughed haughtily to her followers. āOhohohohoho! Itās always cathartic whenever I complain about Rankle! Anyways, enough about him. Back to businessā¦Well? What are you all waiting for? Get back to work!ā
Alelaās retainers quickly scattered in all directions to return to their duties.

Rankle, Master of Pranks. Not only does he provide consistent value in being able to adjust the game state to your advantage, but he's also a funny lil guy. and monoblack is a fun set of restrictions.
So there are more tumblr mtg players than I anticipated, it turns out. What's everyone's favourite commander?
I'll go first, Juri of the Revue.
(Honourable mention to my meme deck where you have to get a date for Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile by swiping left or right with his scry ability.)

More decklist updates
Hey again folks, Iām back with another round of decklist updates for you to check out. This time, Iāve updated my lists for Yeva, Natureās Herald, Erebos, God of the Dead, and Experiment Kraj. Each of them is now up to date with the current physical version, including changes up to Adventures in the Forgotten Realms.
If youād like more details about the changes, you can read about them below.
The main name of the game with this round of updates was improving the speed and consistency of these lists. These three decks are among my longest-lived Commander decks and are often the most difficult for me to effectively change just because theyāve become so tightly packed with powerful cards over their lifetimes, but I really wanted to improve some of the card selection in them.
Yevaās deck received a pretty sweeping overhaul, obtaining a number of new tools for its arsenal. Not the least among them was an Allosaurus Shepherd, replacing Gaeaās Herald as my cheap counter option due to its improved utility, reduced cost and the removal of the symmetrical aspect. Itās kind of a shame, because the Herald has one of my all time favorite pieces of art in the game, but the Shepherd is just an all-around better card. Other changes include the addition of a Kogla, the Titan Ape, a powerful piece of removal that plays very well with Yevaās addition of flash, and a Vivien, Monstersā Advocate, which Iāve talked about previously as one of the best cards for Green decks to come out of this past year. The suite of ramp spells was also tweaked in this list, swapping Cultivate and Kodamaās Reach for Three Visits and Natureās Lore. Since Yeva costs four mana to play, swapping the three mana ramp spells for two cost alternatives allows for smoother play into a Commander drop without a loss of tempo. I also swapped out the Snow-Covered Forests for regular options as the deck no longer makes use of snow mana after this recent change up, and I donāt really feel like getting blown out by a Break the Ice. Lastly, I recently came into possession of a few copies of The Great Henge thanks to lucky pulls from promo packs at my local store, so I added one to this list. Itās just an all-around great card for any deck that runs Green, and this list definitely loves to draw cards as it casts creatures.
Kraj has always had a bit of trouble with turn consistency, and so the biggest thing I wanted to improve with the changes to this list was the turn-by-turn progression, smoothing out ramp options and card draw a little nicer. A previous upgrade removed the spell-based ramp in the list in favor of more mana dorks for Kraj to copy, but Iāve opted to re-add a Cultivate to the list just for a bit of assistance in case of emergency. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy was an easy include here and adds a lot of options for the list, offering a boost to mana production as well as the ability to dig for options. Branching Evolution and Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider join the list as additional static counter buffers, allowing for faster and more explosive buildup, and The Ozolith helps to reduce some of the blowback that comes from losing creatures to removal. Krajās spellbook was enhanced a bit by a visit to Strixhaven, picking up some excellent modal pieces in Decisive Denial and Quandrix Command that improve the listās available options in various situations. This list also gets a Great Henge, and itās honestly probably even better here than it is in my mono-Green list as Kraj directly benefits from the Hengeās counter distribution. I think the cards I've added here will help a lot with the deckās overall progression, and the games Iāve played with this version have already felt much smoother and more involved.
Erebos has mostly been upgraded to allow for increased speed. Heās seen the inclusion of a number of new, slimmer-cost options compared to his previous cards that help to get him into the game faster, and a fair amount of new mana ramp options through additions of cards like Forsworn Paladin for some improved early-to-mid game progression. Feed the Swarm came in thanks to its unique capacity as a targeted enchantment removal in mono-Black, and Baleful Mastery replaced another piece of targeted removal thanks to its cost reduction option. Dauthi Voidwalker and Opposition Agent were added as lean-costed cards that can severely hamper other decksā gameplans, which is true to what this deck was always trying to do. Rankle, Master of Pranks was introduced to the deck due to the versatile suite of options available to him, offering a customizable selection of abilities that can change to fit a number of situations. Iāve also chosen to add Boseiju, Who Shelters All to protect some of my win conditions like Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate. I decided to leave the snow lands in this list as it still makes use of them through cards like Extraplanar Lens and Dead of Winter, although that may change if I start seeing more copies of Break the Ice in my local meta.
Overall, I think these changes will help to keep these decklists viable as Commander continues to evolve as a format. Even though these are some of my longest-maintained decks, theyāre also some of my favorites, so Iām happy to see new options that help to keep them updated.
If youād like to take a look at all of the lists Iāve posted to the blog, past and present, you can check out the archive of my deck posts by using the Decklists tab in my blogās sidebar. If you missed the previous list of updates I made to some of my other active decks, itās available here. I have a number of new lists Iāve been working on over the past while that Iām prepping to share as well, so if these lists were to your liking, please stay tuned for more content like this to come. Thanks!

Character Introduction
Full Name: James Fleamont Potter
Name Origin: JAMES ~ English form of the Late Latin name Iacomus, a variant of the Biblical Latin form Iacobus, from the Hebrew name Ya'aqov. Both Potter parents preferred a name they considered āclassically and simply Englishā, having had traditional Indian names and more unusual English alternatives themselves; FLEAMONTĀ Ā ~ named after his father who was, in turn, named for the otherwise dying out maiden name of his paternal grandmother; POTTERĀ ~ a common surname in both muggle and wizarding Britain. It is believed the name in the wizarding world can be traced back to Linfred of Stinchcombe who was nicknamed āthe Pottererā. However, there are also ancestors in the Potter family tree with the surname Matkari, which is Marathi forĀ āpot makerā.
Nicknames: Prongs (within the Marauders); Jay (His parents call him this, despite all their talk of not wanting to give him an Indian name)
Age:Ā 18
Birthday: 27th March
Sexuality: TragicallyĀ Heterosexual (but an enthusiastic ally to the LGBT community)
Relationship Status: Engaged
Positive Traits: Loyal; Intrepid; Resolute
Negative Traits: Callow; Self-sacrificing; Cocky
Patronus: A stag ~ It is the same as his animagus form, down to the markings.
Boggart: Lily wandless and cornered by Death Eaters
Wand Type: Mahogany and Unicorn tail, pliable
Occupation: Intern, International Magical Office of Law
Affiliation: Order of the Phoenix
Biography:
Fleamont and Euphemia Potter never thought they would have a child. Years of difficulties getting pregnant and multiple miscarriages and by the time they surpassed seventy, they had more or less given up. Even for wizards, children were rarely a possibility that late in life. They focused instead on their already flourishing careers, Fleamont in the potions industry and Euphemia as a defence lawyer. As such, the life James Fleamont Potter was born into and the way he was raised was pampered and spoiled and treated like his parentsā little miracle. Fleamont started to direct his company from home, slowly stepping further away until he sold the business completely. Euphemia kept on working, in her job as a defence lawyer, but was more choosy about the cases she took on. Both parents wanted to be home as much as possible with the child they never thought they would have.
The downside, for James, was a lack of friends his own age. The children of friends of his parents were all grown up. James passed his days pranking his dad and playing make-believe as he explored the land out the back of their house. He might not have had much in the way of friends, but when he came home at the end of the day he had dirty knees and a look of fresh-faced glee as he proudly displayed his new ābroomstickā to his parents ā ā another large stick to add to the growing pile in their garden until on his sixth birthday he was given his own. From then, all games of make-believe were halted and flying was the only thing James wanted to do. It didnāt matter to him that his dadās hip was too bad to fly with him and so there was nobody to pass a Quaffle around with. James flew and flew and he loved the feeling. He would tell anybody who would listen that he was going to be a top Quidditch player when he was older, just because he wanted to fly.
Hogwarts might have been a scary concept to some, leaving his parents for the first time and going to a place where he only knew the professors but James was just excited for the next adventure and the chance to explore a new place. Armed with his newly inherited Invisibility cloak, James boarded the Hogwarts Express, excited and absent of fear and immediately ran into another first year boy, a meeting that he would later consider history in the making. There wasnāt a friendship like that of James Potter and Sirius Black except, perhaps, the friendship of all four dormmates. The Marauders.
Where Remus kept disappearing to was a mystery James didnāt know how to let go but his reaction to finding out the truth was anticlimactic. A shrug and a well it doesnāt change anything, does it? and that was it for James. Except it wasnāt quite it because nothing ever was. He had grown up watching his mother defend the vulnerable in society and while there were things he was missing, young and naĆÆve as he was, he knew he wanted to do whatever he could to change the world for Remus. Their lives had been opposite ends of the scale so far and James could see no justice in that. He made a vow to himself that as soon as they found a safe way to be there, Remus would spend no more Full Moons alone and that when he was old enough he would do everything he could to make life better for werewolves.
It was the start of a turning point, albeit one that would move slowly and gradually. Pranks were still the forefront of his priorities, followed closely by Quidditch, but he kept looking around and seeing injustice and it bothered him because he had no idea why. The look on Siriusā face every time they boarded the train to go home for the holidays. Remus in the Hospital Wing after a bad Full Moon. The word Mudblood thrown around like a casual taunt. These were all things James couldnāt stand and he wanted to fix them all. He wanted to fix the sneers some of the Slytherins directed towards his friends for no good reason. Ā (He wanted to fix that Lily ā ā beautiful, smart Lily ā ā was friends with one of them and, to James, seemingly oblivious to the way he acted towards others with her parentage.) Ā Ā He wanted to fix the fact that the summer between his third and fourth years was taken over by his mum going to trial against a Death Eater accusing their house-elf of killing someone. It wasnāt the first he had heard of Death Eaters but it was the first he had paid enough attention to the way his parents talked about them and really taken in what they wanted. It was just a passing comment by his dad, a scornful remark against the Dark Arts, but it stuck with James. For a boy who still tended to view the world in black and white, the Dark Arts became something that fell very much in the wrong.
Arrogant, bullying toerag. Words that rang through his mind the night before his Transfiguration OWL. The rest of his classmates were studying but James sat and re-evaluated his whole life. Ā (Not that he particularly needed to study for Transfiguration which was not only his best subject but the one he had spent the best part of three years doing extra studying so as to master the Animagus transformation.) Ā The Dark Arts were wrong and he had wanted to fix those sneers and fix the guilt inside him at all the hurt Remus had suffered from Snapeās discovery of his secret and somehow that had turned into bullying. James rankled at the word and his instinct was to defend himself but the truth was, Lily was right. Ā (Lily was always right. It was part of her charm.) Ā He had gone too far, turned into the one taking action before his victims had done anything.
In one night Jamesā dreams of playing Quidditch professionally seemed to have disappeared. His parents tried to ask, but James was unable to put into words what had changed. If he hadnāt wanted to, James knew he would never have to work. Family money could comfortably see him through to old age but with that money came privileges, even more than the ones attached to his blood status, as well as the potential for influence. How could he waste that away on pursuing a Quidditch career when there were people he could help? Again, Lily was right ā ā the arrogance was outstanding. Ā Ā (She really was the cleverest witch ever, possibly even more so than his mum).
The James Potter who went back to Hogwarts for his sixth year was like a new man. The growth spurt over the summer helped to solidify his newfound maturity. Quidditch had to be somewhat of a priority now that he had the captainās badge on his chest but it was not the all-consuming obsession the school had grown to expect. He was more focused in classes, suddenly switched onto the idea that a natural intelligence might not help his ignorance about a lot of the world, and he started tutoring a few younger students in Transfiguration. There were still pranks and mischief, but they had adopted an air of being their last chance to be teenagers. Similarly, there were still Full Moons and late night excursions, even a Map to help them sneak around, but these too had changed for James. They were still about helping Remus, as they always would be, but he also kept half an eye on the Map for others potentially up to no good, so that he could stop anybody else getting hurt the way more and more muggleborns had been recently. And, when the Head Boy badge came with his seventh year booklist, less people were surprised than would have been a year earlier.
Nobody had really believed he was serious about dropping Quidditch after school until he turned down the scouts and applied for a job in the Ministry of Magic, within the Department of International Magical Law, where he hoped to one day be able to have an influence on laws governing human rights and equality. He was also amongst the first in line to sign up for the Order of the Phoenix. He might still be privileged and sheltered in comparison to his friends but James was desperate to do anything to help keep them safe.

š® idk anything abt magic Please government assign me some words
oh god what did i get myself into i didnāt think abt how long itād take me to do this djhdfjhdfjhgdf
/if you donāt play magic the gathering, send me aĀ š® and iāll answer these questions
psychographic profile: i think you would fit the johnny profile, specifically the offbeat designer subtype.Ā while winning isnāt necessarily your end goal, if you are going to win, you want to do so in a unique and interesting way. you build around ideas just to see what would happen, and sometimes you just fucking combo off and take twenty minute turns and that makes you the archenemy (which, as someone who is usually the archenemy in my playgroup, i can respect).
you may also fit the subtype of the uber johnny, which specifically seeks to make unplayable cards playable. itās like fixating on a character that showed up for one single arc in the comics and was never mentioned again.
aesthetic profile: you would absolutely be the vorthos, specifically the writer. you know why.
ravnican guild: i feel that youād fall into house dimir (blue/black). as dictated in the guildpact, house dimir serve as ravnicaāsĀ couriers, information brokers, and librarians. however, they are also known for doing some pretty shady things, from espionage to assassinations. though the dimir remain shadowed in mystery, they have informants everywhere (some who arenāt consciously aware of it)... much like a certain detective with cute little bat ears.Ā
from a gameplay standpoint, dimir leans more towards control. that includes forcing opponents to discard, stealing their best creatures, and countering their big splashy stuff. additionally, because youāre playing in black, you have access to cards that can use your graveyard (and your opponentās) to get further ahead in the game. you have a plan, and failing that, you could always borrow a plan from an opponent.
shard/wedge: blue and black is already a pretty sweet color combination. why not throw in a little green to crush your enemies defenses?Ā
the sultai broodĀ of tarkir (black/green/blue) relies on necromancy to fuel their schemes. in the khans of tarkir timeline, they were ruled by the naga sidisi. in the dragons of tarkir timeline, however, sidisi serves as the undead visier to dragonlord silumgar due to her necromantic prowess and mastery of manipulation.
from a gameplay standpoint, sultai makes use of the graveyard as a resource. with access to green (which opens to door to golgari and simic gamepieces), sultai allows you to ramp into your largest creatures well before the competition, gives you access to artifact and enchantment removal, and makes your creatures stronger.
planeswalker: you like hot girls who are sometimes bad guys but also not really who could kill you without lifting a finger? look no further than miss liliana vess, who is guaranteed to make your opponents have a bad time. has she even had a bad card? i donāt know!
once a healer-in-training, liliana began experimenting with necromancy at a young age. this would inevitably lead her family down a path of destruction, and for centuries to come, the fall of house vess would become a legend on her homeplane of dominaria.Ā
(thereās a lot about liliana honestly i could go on for hours about some of these characters but this post is getting long enough already)
commander: if you like causing problems on purpose, then youāll love rankle, master of pranks
look at the rumpelstiltskin looking motherfucker. this idiot trickster. he thinks heās being funny.Ā
