Got to witness a solar eclipse today up in Rangeley, Maine.
When totality hit, it got so cold and dark. Like a 20 or 30 degree drop in temperature.
Absolutely wild.

Can anyone recommend a reliable snowmobile rental service in Rangeley, Maine for winter adventures?
Choosing the right snowmobile rental in Rangeley, Maine, is crucial for a safe and enjoyable winter adventure. Here are several key factors to consider when selecting a rental service:
Quality and Maintenance of Snowmobiles: Ensure the rental fleet is well-maintained and up-to-date. Reliable rentals invest in regular maintenance and safety checks of their snowmobiles to provide the best experience for their customers.
Safety Gear and Instructions: A reputable rental service should provide essential safety gear, such as helmets, and offer a comprehensive briefing on how to operate the snowmobile safely. This is crucial, especially for beginners.
Insurance and Liability: Understand what is covered under the rental agreement, including insurance and liability. Knowing what you're responsible for in case of an accident or damage to the snowmobile can save you from unexpected expenses.
Guided Tours and Trails: Some rental services offer guided tours, which can enhance your experience, especially if you're unfamiliar with the area. Check if they provide maps or recommendations for trails suitable for your skill level.
Customer Reviews and Reputation: Look up reviews and testimonials from previous customers. A rental service with positive feedback on customer service, reliability, and overall experience is likely a good choice.
Rental Rates and Packages: Compare rates and packages from different services. Some might offer half-day, full-day, or multi-day rentals, along with special packages that include additional perks or equipment.
Flexibility and Customer Service: Consider how flexible the rental service is with booking changes or cancellations. Good customer service is a sign of a rental service that values its customers and is likely to provide a positive rental experience.
Location and Access to Trails: The rental's location is important for easy access to trails. Ideally, the service should be situated near a variety of trails, offering both scenic views and appropriate challenges based on your experience level.
Training and Support: Especially for beginners, check if the rental service offers any training sessions or support during your rental period. Having access to support can be reassuring and enhance your safety and enjoyment.
By considering these factors, you'll be better equipped to choose a snowmobile rental in Rangeley, Maine, that meets your needs and ensures a memorable and safe adventure in the snow.

A little changes of plans for this week—
I know that we are deep into For Death Or Glory right now, but since Thursday is the holiday, I'm going to let them have the week off.
NOW BEFORE YOU GET MAD-
I typically spend the holiday in Rangeley, Maine for their festival, but this year I wasn't able to make it (sad 😔) but in the process of mourning what could have been, I had some ideas. 😈🤭
Tumblr media
So I'll be giving you some little treats here and there throughout the week to cope and I think you'll appreciate them! ☀️

Wilhelm Reich - Orgone Akkumulator No.8
"Orgone accumulator with smaller box for spot work (missing tube to direct the orgone to the area of the body being treated). This Orgone Generator was created by Wilhelm Reich. On the bottom of the smaller box, it is marked "No. 8. Property of the Orgone Institute. [illegible] Laboratories, Inc. Orgonon, Rangeley, Maine. Made in the USA by S.A. Collins & Son, Rangeley ME."
It was originally owned by Roy Kuhlman, purchased circa 1948, according to witness testimonies. Then it was passed down to Kuhlman's daughter, Arden."

As a humble southerner can you describe the Height of the Land to me :3
Western Maine is mountainous and has a ton of lakes, so it's a scenic overlook with a nice view. I haven't been there for a few years (it's not super close to our camp) so I don't have a picture from my family but I found one on the internet:
Tumblr media
And this pic shows the rock by the side of the road that labels it:
Tumblr media
I think it's a bit further down than it looks here, depth often doesn't come out very well in pictures in my experience.
Here you can see some tourists at the overlook and kind of get a sense of how it works when you drive up to it. There's a sign on the road nearby that says "scenic overlook." There are several of those in Maine.
Tumblr media
It's also in Rangeley which is a touristy area in western Maine, hence all the tourists all the time.
My experience is also that scenic views in Maine are never properly captured in photo, so I would say it's much more impressive in person. That being said... by the time I saw the Height of the Land (or just "Height of Land according to that rock but we always say "the") I had seen equally or more impressive views hiking. It's a pretty location in western Maine, it's not the pretty location in western Maine, but my grandpa had an attachment to it. Maybe my great-grandpa took him here when he'd only seen my grandma's little mill town, I'm not sure.

A rainy night in Portland por Kevin Madore Por Flickr: A light rain is beginning to fall as the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co.'s Monson Locomotive #4 hauls a 4-car passenger train at the west end of the company's 24" gauge track on the Eastern Promenade in downtown Portland, Maine. The cars behind #4 are original Maine 2-foot passenger equipment from the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes and Bridgton & Harrison Railroads. Lumedyne lighting provided by Joey Kelly. On what was billed as her final day of operation on March 29th of 2014, Monson #4 ran 3 public passenger trips around Portland's Eastern Promenade. When those were completed, the engine and train picked up approximately 25 photographers and headed out to the far east (railroad west) end of the museum's track for a night photo shoot. The operation was a bit of a race with mother nature, because everyone was aware that a rainstorm was right on the doorstep and that this promised to be a very wet night. Still, a number of set-ups were completed before the rain became heavy enough to preclude decent photos. As a footnote, not long after this event, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. was granted an extension on #4's Form 4, permitting some additional operating days later in 2014 and very early 2015. The locomotive made its last run on January 2nd of 2015 and has been sidelined since that time. Inspections revealed that a new boiler is needed as the existing one is beyond economical repair.

So. My laptop that I use needs to go in for repair. So I might be mobile-bound for a little bit. I noticed last night that the top half of the screen was flickering as I was just.. not doing anything. Not sure how long things will take, it should be covered (paying enough for protectiom plan, it better cover lmao) but.. not sure what best buy will say.
In other news, I saw the eclipse today. I went to Rangeley, Maine with my dog and it was insanely cool. I was in the totality range and it was nothing like I expected to experience that day. So that's one thing off my bucklet list lol!
Here's a picture I took (unedited), around this amount of sun covered it was noticeably darker and the temperature was starting to rapidly drop. It was like dusk.
