Updates 4.27.22

Lots of maps... so many maps... but that’s expected in a game involving exploration! I actually changed my map style a little, to speed up development while still remaining somewhat beautiful. If you’ve seen the Lunar series maps, they’re very similar.

*Please excuse my mispelling of Ollantaytambo, my brain goes 100 miles a minute and my first language is english, so the pronunciation doesn’t come naturally

I’ve also been flip-flopping between random battles and on-screen. I’m old school and plan to have a good mix of randos to fight, with bosses on-screen. However, after like... 20 years using RM, I’m just now learning MV at least has a thing where you can set enemies by region ID. I will 100% be using that. I will have an item that is craftable that will increase encounters 200% for grinders, decrease 50%, or eliminate encounters completely. Also puzzle rooms (if I have them... they were buggy and a pain to make in my fangame I made and I’m reluctant to use them) will not have any random encounters by default. If I decide to use puzzles, I will probably dedicate one large area/room to them with no encounters.

One map I’ve been anxious to make are the Maras Salt Mines. It’s gonna be beautiful. This image would be my main inspiration, albiet for Maras it will be opalescent and bright colors. Each pool has a specific base color that indicates what you’ll get aka enemy (still random so not always), item (via “treasure chest”; more like “treasure pots” in mine, or other various item-field icons), or a spot where LP drops a very tiny bit when you’re standing on it.

One of my big accomplishments is a major scene in the beginning that I completed. I am really, really happy with how much impact it has and it flows into a very cute scene that lightens the mood for a little bit and characterizes Lulli some more.

The main goals right now are to finish Sacsayhuaman maps and what I call the “Demo Boss”, a giant gold condor. He’s not really the first boss atm, but the first boss is more of a miniboss in difficulty...

For reference, my last update I had Cuzco and 2 maps for the Inca Trail done... now I have close to maybe 6 or 7 maps.

                        DEATH is happening, everywhere, every moment, but what happens afterwards will forever remain a mystery. 1. Hey! Enough with that bad self-talk! Tell me something you like about your body. >> Despite how sedentary I usually am, it took the miles-long journey we ended up having today like a champ. I’d love to have more long walks (maybe not quite as long as today’s -- that was an accident because we got all turned around lol), but I get so demoralised just walking around on suburban sidewalks. Nature trails are so much more engaging and refreshing. Also, the variation in walking surface is so fun -- climbing over tree trunks, weaving through foliage, ahh variety.

2. Rap music: Yay or Nay? >> Even the rap music I don’t personally enjoy, I love on principle. It’s just such a delightful art form to me. I just love music, man, sue me.

3. Whoever invented post-it notes was a genius, right? >> I don’t know if they were a genius or not, but I bet they sure made a lot of money.

4. Does the price of gas outrage you? >> I mean, no, because I don’t buy gas so I don’t have to care. It’s been pretty low recently, though. Unexpected benefits of a pandemic, lol.

5. Please tell me you know the difference between there, they’re, and their! >> I do know the difference. What, do I get a medal or something, who cares.

6. Are you obsessed with cleaning? >> I am not. I do get obsessive about how well it’s done when I do it, because I have a whole issue, but I’m not obsessed with the practice of cleaning itself.

7. Where do you keep your shoes? >> On the thingy in the entryway.

8. What do you think of dating websites? >> I don’t have a general opinion about them. They’re just a thing that exists.

9. Are YOU smarter than a 5th grader? >> I’m more cognitively developed than a fifth-grader.

10. Don’t you think its funny how people will wear those AC / DC shirts but when you mention one of their songs, they go, “What??“ >> I’ve never had an encounter like this. Regardless, I don’t care why someone’s wearing a band shirt. Maybe they just thought the logo was cool. That’s fine with me -- there are a lot of cool band logos out there. It is disappointing when you’re psyched to have a conversation with a fellow fan of a band you love and it turns out to not be that, but hey. That’s life.

11. What’s the strangest thing a complete random stranger has ever done to you? >> I don’t know. I tend to think that hitting on me without even knowing me from Adam is strange, so like, my bar is pretty low.

12. When you said something naughty when you were little, did your parents wash out your tongue with soap? >> Yes.

13. What do you think of spanking little children when they do something wrong? Okay or not? >> I’m not into it, particularly as a person who was whipped as a child. I’m one of those extremists that thinks even a swat is wholly unnecessary, so, like. Not willing to budge on this.

14. Y'all got a southern accent? >> I don’t, I live in the northern part of the country.

15. How do you pronounce the name Sean when you come across it in text… "Shawn” “Sheen” or “Shane”? >> I actually knew a guy a long time ago that was named “Sean” and wanted it pronounced “Seen”. So, you know. People can do whatever the fuck they want with their names and I won’t question it. Generally, though, I assume it’s pronounced “Shawn” until told otherwise.

16. Is it true that British accents are overrated? >> I refuse to interpret a way of speaking as “overrated”.

17. How does it make you feel that most American families are failing? >> I have no idea what this means.

18. When you get married, are you gonna stick out with your husband or get a divorce on the first argument that comes your way? >> Obviously I am not planning on bailing at the first sign of conflict. 

19. Did you know that in Japan they have sushi flavored ice cream!? >> I heard that once.

20. Have you ever wondered if dogs think their thoughts in barks? >> I assume that dog thoughts are probably not in any sort of language, per se. A lot of my thoughts come in the form of images or half-formed ideas or emotional resonances, so I imagine animal thoughts are similar. That is, if they even have processes that resemble our thought processes -- maybe instinct-based processing is different. We have instincts but we also have this whole other network on top of it, which may or may not be present in other creatures. I don’t, like, make a point of researching this stuff so this is all half-formed conjecture. *shrug*

Random Encounter Charts; yay or nay?

I say “random encounter charts” but I really mean prepared lists of encounters that I will likely just pick from and choose accordingly to the situation. But random or not, the idea of having a wide list of events and enemies to choose from is somewhat counter-narrative to me, at least in theory.  Regardless, I’ve found myself using them a bit more. A few basic charts I’ve made or found have given a lot of life to some regions that I may have underdeveloped in world building. The marshlands that my current party are travelling through are vastly detailed, rich with distinct threats, and enticing to them. All due to picking some good selections from a random chart I found about swampland, and then adding a few tweaks. Of course, they don’t know that I used a chart. But in the past, my players have expressed a dislike of random encounters because they deter from the relevant narratives.
