I HATE PPL SAYING EDDIES GONNA MOVE BACK TO TEXAS, I HATE IT. My man JUST had a plot about experiencing joy, why the fuck would he punish himself by moving back to texas, if he moves, thats his whole found family torn away from him.
Eddie moving back to texas to be with chris means he has NO support system, no friends, just his son and his parents, eddies roots arent there anymore its be like trying to put a tree in sandy soil. Yeah that tree grew up in hot climate and sandy soil, but then the tree got the right type of soil, a proper watering schedule, and is now FLOURISHING why would you take it out of its new pot to put it back in its old one? The old one that stunted its growth and suffocated it?Just because it grew there doesnt mean it THRIVED
Eddie moved away from his parents for a reason, and putting himself back in that position of being critisized for every parenting move, of being told hes not good enough, that hell drag chris down with him, and this time he wont be able to leave. I think the only good part about that would be chris seeing how shitty hus grandparents treat his dad
Also you thunk buck is letting eddie go anywhere? Buck? Mr. Abandonment issues galore? He MIGHT let eddie go to texas to get chris and bring him home without him. But move there? Permanently? Not a chance.
Im sorry but having no support system whatsoever, and tyen being forced to live in the place he left for a reason, with parents who dont act like they love him and a son hes convinced hates him does not sound like the recipe for a postive mental mindset, or having and experiencing joy. It sounds like a place depression and self-doubt can thrive, and no one there on his side seems like a way to get yourself a trip to grippy sock prison.
Im getting so passionate about it because this is a popular theory, and imo it seems like smth the show could do, which is what has me so scared. But to me, it makes no sense character wise. Let chris come HOME

I Hold It All When I Hold You ('On Purpose' coda)
“Oh my god Edmundo, is that a fucking engagement ring?” Adriana yelps, grabbing his hand.
“No fucking way, he would have told us,” Sophia hisses, leaning across the table. “Right, Eddie?”
“Um. Surprise?” Eddie offers with a grin as his parents enter the cafe. They stop at the counter, giving Sophia and Adriana a few more minutes to interrogate. He hadn’t wanted them to have to keep anything from their parents, as much as he’d wanted to call them straight away (because who wouldn’t want to brag about Buck wanting to marry them?).
or
The one where Eddie comes out to his parents and it goes about as well as he thought it would. Supportive Diaz sisters, confronting the Diaz parents, and Buck being...well, Buck. Plus, Buck finally gets the chance to do the proposal he planned.
Word Count: 4,735
Relationship: Buck/Eddie

Family and its Consequences (11463 words) by buckdiass Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: 9-1-1 (TV) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Adriana Diaz & Eddie Diaz & Sophia Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Evan "Buck" Buckley & Christopher Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Evan "Buck" Buckley & Christopher Diaz & Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Eddie Diaz & Isabel Diaz (9-1-1 TV) Characters: Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Evan "Buck" Buckley, Christopher Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Ramon Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Helena Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Sophia Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Adriana Diaz, Josephina "Pepa" Diaz, Isabel Diaz (9-1-1 TV) Additional Tags: POV Outsider, POV Evan "Buck" Buckley, POV Alternating, Complicated Relationships, Dysfunctional Family, Eddie Diaz Loves Evan "Buck" Buckley, Evan "Buck" Buckley Loves Eddie Diaz, Established Relationship, But also, Getting Together, First Kiss, Marriage Proposal, Protective Evan "Buck" Buckley, Helena Diaz Bashing (9-1-1 TV), Christopher Diaz Has Two Dads, Teen Christopher Diaz (9-1-1 TV), Eddie Diaz Needs a Hug (9-1-1 TV), Eddie Diaz Gets a Hug (9-1-1 TV), Eddie Diaz Has Bad Parents (9-1-1 TV), Feelings Realization Summary:
Sophia managed to get Buck alone in the kitchen. “Hey, Buck, right? I’ve heard so much about you. Seriously, Eddie does not shut up about you.”
Buck gave her a bashful smile, and yeah, Sophia could definitely see how easily Eddie fell for him. The air around this guy screamed warmth and comfort, two things that Sophia knew Eddie craved.
“I can say the same about you,” he said.
“How long have you two been together?”
The way Buck tilted his head reminded Sophia of an overgrown puppy, the pull of his eyebrows bringing attention to his frankly beautiful eyes. “Together?”
Eddie and Buck were in El Paso for Christmas. The Diaz family has opinions.

i think part of it too is that as much as i love a good diaz parents bash i think sometimes people forget that it's canon that chris loves his grandparents. they helped to raise him. he called them when he experienced a trauma he didn't know how to deal with. it is very unlikely he would have stayed in tx this long if they were super overbearing or infantalizing with him. the fact is that a lot of people who are extremely shitty parents end up being better grandparents
(i still wouldn't say 'good' grandparents in this case because i absolutely do not think they're acting in chris's best interests here even if they think they are but that's a different post..)
and honestly, i think that's a way more interesting dynamic to explore than 'chris is secretly miserable bc his grandparents are just as sucky to him as they were to eddie growing up' like. they're canonically not!! they're putting in a pool for him!! ramon taught him chess!! he loves them!!

But After This I'm Never Going To Be The Same by MoonshineCybin
21k | M | link
"Hey, Eds..." he started, not quite sure how to ask. "Hmm?" Eddie hummed back at him, not even moving from their comfortable position. "Why - why weren't you surprised when I first told you about Tommy?" He felt Eddie's body tense next to his. And when the other man didn't reply he continued, "You were surprised to learn that he was gay, but not about me being bi. Why not?" Eddie shifted, moving over on the couch so that he and Buck were no longer touching, and he then moved even further so that there was a distinct gap between the two of them. Buck turned his head toward Eddie, but the other man was very deliberately still staring at the TV in front of them which was now just a blue screen. He looked... pained? Buck couldn't fathom why his question was causing such a reaction in his best friend. Eddie, still facing away from Buck, closed his eyes tightly. "So we're finally talking about this?" His voice was quiet and thick with emotion. OR Turns out poker night was a date and Buck didn't even know it.

when I say the 911 fandom has a misogyny problem I mean it to say its very telling how fans of this show will blame every problem with it on women.
The amount of blame Kristen Reidel gets for "leading to the show getting cancelled" when in reality 911 was the number one show on FOX and the network just didn't want to pay for it because it's expensive to produce. That's why ABC bought the show, because it was still a hit and they were willing to spend the money that FOX wasn't (Also in my person opinion, seasons 5-6 were way more cohesive as seasons of TV than season 7 and 8 so far. )
Just because a female show runner makes a decision you don't personally like doesn't mean "she ruined the show" (especially when she is responsible for a lot of the things you love about the show (Like Ravi actually having plot relevance and getting fleshed out as a character, Henren begins among other things) but don't want to give her credit for those plot points)
Or the fact that anytime someone brings up Ryan Guzman's history of racism and antisemitism people blame it on his ex wife. I don't know how to tell you this, but grown men can make their own decisions. Yeah his ex wife also may be a terrible person but that doesn't make Ryan Guzman any less culpable for insisting it's ok to say slurs and comparing vaccines to the holocaust. He said those things! It is not "his wife's fault" that he said racist things. Be serious, let him take accountability instead of brushing it off and blaming it on women. Him getting divorced doesn't mean his actions don't have an impact anymore
And let's not forget that women in this show are never treated with any depth and are always seen as evil or a mother in this fandom. Some people in this fandom can't spare any nuance for the female characters. They'll blame Maddie for Buck's abandonment issues and issues in childhood, ignoring that she was a victim too, and then creates hundreds of Maddie Bashing fics. All female love interests are interpreted to be incredibly evil for simply just existing and their existence is "ruining the show." When people criticize the Buckley or the Diaz parents they tend to only blame the Margaret or Helena and say that Phillip and Ramon are just "going along with it" and again being treated as the victim of their wives instead of grown ass men with agency.
(and then of course if a woman isn't being perceived as "pure evil" she is being treated as only a mother/caregiver to the male characters which is what I see constantly with fandom descriptions of Maddie/Athena/Hen. If Hen is lucky she also gets to be seen as a gaydar and nothing more, forgetting all the really interesting aspects of all three of these female characters in order to cater them to men)
This fandom will bend over backwards to blame women sometimes and it drives me nuts

Hi there ☺️
I LOVED the snippet you just shared for Military Past Witsec
Do you have any more to share for the fic?
Also please add me to the tag list for that fic ☺️
-❤️🪐
I have so much more! It's nearly 35,000 words & I still have a few main points I want to add in, so she's gonna be THICC. I might start doing Snippet Saturdays or whatever they're called so I can share more bc I love this fic SO much. Or, I guess I could just finish writing it and post it, but who knows 😂
Buck scrubs his hands over his face. “Mr. Diaz, I’m sorry that you don’t agree with Eddie’s choices, but I’ve spent the last nearly 3 years following your son’s lead, and I’ve never regretted it. If Eddie decided that I was what he wanted for Chris, then I’m not going to give him up. I wish you would respect that, but if you can’t, then you’re going to have to fight for him, because a court order is the only way I’m walking away from that little boy back there.”
Helena’s nostrils flare. “You want to drag Chris through a custody case instead of giving him to his family?” She demands, and Buck actually does roll his eyes at her question.
“Mrs. Diaz, I will not be the one filing for custody, as I already have it. If you decide to do so, then the consequences are on your head, not mine. All I want to do is mourn my best friend and try to give his son the best life possible. That’s my only concern. I’m sorry that you’re hurting, but you’re not the only one who lost Eddie, and if you do this, the only person you’re going to be hurting is your grandson.” He warns, though he knows it’s probably futile.
Ramon hums again. “Well, that’s our concern too, so I guess we’ll have to see what a judge thinks.” He states decisively.
(Ana is also going to be in here, & she might not be GREAT, but it's not going to be a bashing fic. Eddie introducing her to Chris almost immediately is going to be confusing to everyone involved, but she's genuinely just doing her best. The Diaz parents are not going to be portrayed as very kind though lol)

Diaz Family Dynamics
This comes with the standard warnings of 'hey if you think I'm bashing this character, I'm not' and 'if you don't like my content, you don't have to interact with it because I ain't fighting with people over opinions'. With a single exception. I am absolutely bashing Helena and Ramon Diaz. They're terrible parents and even worse people. my asks are open for questions or conversations!
I also have other thoughts about Eddie, including things involving him and Shannon, and more things about him and his sisters, his traumas, etc. However, I think this post is a little too heavy to share all of those. If you're interested in any of them, let me know. I'll do a separate post for them later regardless, but I'd love to see what people are interested in hearing about.
Trigger warnings: PTSD, talk of child neglect & abuse. It's Eddie Diaz and his family, that's it's own warning.
Let's get the hard stuff out of the way first, shall we? As someone who's been in shoes similar to Eddie and Maddie as oldest sibling who's had to step up and be a parent to their younger siblings, there is no situation where a child is raising another child and it's not because the actual parents are neglectful at best and abusive at worst. The Diaz parents are both. And it's exactly the way you'd think. Helena is shown to be verbally and emotionally abusive to Eddie in the flashbacks we're given during Eddie Begins. She sits back and watches her son, who's a newly single father and still healing from injuries he gained in a war that he ran to in part because of his parents struggle with multiple jobs at once, doctors appointments for himself AND his son, and did nothing to help. Instead, she used the fact that he was struggling as an excuse to ask for custody of Christopher. And considering Eddie grew up with that same style of abuse, that he shielded his sisters from receiving it, too? Yeah, I hope she burns in Hell for it.
And Ramon. Oh, Ramon. He's equally shitty to Eddie when it comes to verbal abuse. He abandoned the family (for work, yes, but what decent father looks at their 10 year old son and tells them it's time to 'man up'?). And no one has a fight style scrappy enough for genuine street fighting, the way Eddie's got, unless it was learned originally in self defense and then refined later on with actual lessons. I'd put money on Ramon having laid hands on Eddie a time or two before he got big enough to fight back. I've seen it, I grew up with kids who have that exact fighting style and that's what it was from. And the way he never turns his back on his father when they do interact? It's a survivor's skill that you learn the hard way.
Also? All of Eddie's doubts about him being a good dad? His worries that he's fucking Christopher up when he's given everything he's got for his son? Those come from his parents, too. He's always tried to make sure he wasn't like either of his parents, but those doubts don't leave very easily when you've spent your whole life not knowing anything else. Helena definitely drilled it in the entire time after Eddie came home from overseas that what he was doing for Christopher's sake wasn't enough. That he wasn't a good enough parent.
I'm also entirely sure that Eddie's lack of skill in cooking stems in part from his childhood. He was the oldest sibling of three, and he was helping raise his sisters. He probably tried to learn to cook by the time he was 12 for their sake but was told no by his mother. They're a Southern family, do you know how much time some boys are allowed to spend in the kitchen when there's daughters around to learn to cook instead? Sure isn't enough to learn anything. And I 100% believe Helena just refused to teach him. He learned how to cook eggs when he was 12, but no one ever taught him anything else until after he moved to LA, where Pepa and Isabel stepped in and tried to teach him. But it's harder to learn to cook in your late 20s when you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders already than it would be when you're a kid. It's just an unfortunate fact that some aspects of toxic masculinity like that are furthered by the mothers here in the American South. Sometimes.
Additionally, Eddie's never considered that he could be anything other than straight (I think he's bisexual but demiromantic, but that's just a headcanon). Again. Welcome to the South. He grew up Catholic. No way in Hell that Ramon didn't threaten to 'beat the gay out of him' the first time he was overheard jokingly flirting with a friend in high school. More families are like that down here than I want to admit. My own included. Just look how quickly Eddie's communication style changes when he realizes something sounds flirty. All those times he's jokingly said something to Buck and then went too serious directly after for no discernible reason? Bet you anything it's that.
He didn't leave despite hating staying with his parents after Shannon left not because he couldn't (Pepa or Isabel would've let them stay until he got a place, I'm sure that's what happened anyway because he packed them up and left on a dime anyway) because he had to make sure his sisters were out of his parents' home first. He'd rather suffer than leave them unprotected from it all.
All three Diaz siblings went no contact eventually. Then Eddie switched to limited contact because he thought Christopher deserved to know his living grandparents after Shannon's death. The only time they all show up is when it's required (like at Ramon's retirement party).
And final comment involving the Diaz parents: Eddie never wanted to marry Shannon. Another unfortunate tradition here in the South that still happens (less frequently, but happens): sometimes the parents force a marriage in the case of an unplanned pregnancy. We've had several in my family. Eddie loved Shannon, yes. But he never would have married her on his own. His parents forced it as soon as they found out Shannon was pregnant. It's part of why their marriage was so toxic, I think.

Long shot but a friend is looking for a 911 fic.
Odds are it is at minimum pre-Buck/Eddie.
Character Bashing- It deals with the Diaz parents being the WORST. Ramon ends up divorcing Helena and moving to LA. She responds by stabbing him.
I can only think of a couple that might have fit but are Buckley parents instead.
