susie as barret: tank, Big, both are objectively the best character of their game reagrdless of who ur actual fav is (also i think susie would think the gun arm is sick)

kris as cloud: protagonist, has weird identity shit going on, also just general Mental Illness, forced to hurt their friends against their will at some points

noelle as tifa: childhood friend of protag, can tell weird shit is going on w said friend but doesnt rlly know how to help

ralsei as aerith: magical healer, knows shit they shouldnt, association with yellow flowers, long dress/robe thing

The horns Kris has in Deltarune that are mentioned by Toriel that they lost, are a very clear sign of the writing concept of Chekov's gun (Sorry for the spelling)

In case you don't know, "Chekov's gun" is essentially the concept of, in writing something like a play, don't put a gun on stage, unless it'll go off.

It essentially means, don't put something into the story, unless it'll mean something later on

Ralsei was obviously created by those horns

He's a part of Kris' childhood

That's why he's a goat monster, that's why he knows about Kris and their past, that's why he resembles Asriel, and actually, he might represent more than that

This is a bold claim, but I belive Ralsei represents holding onto the past

to me, a really emotionally effective suselle denial is worth more than 10 suselles, because itd do wonders for noelle's arc, pull the themes of rejecting fate into focus, and illustrate a great point about how we play matchmaker with these characters, and how everyone else does too.

literally everyone seems to be gunning for susie and noelle to end up together, but the one person whose feelings about this pairing we've been ignoring, and the one person whose feelings actually matter, is susie! no one gave her a choice here! noelle didn't give susie a choice, she's incredibly possessive of susie and feels like she is owed information about susie, which she can then use to get susie to like her. noelle won't stop until susie is hers. ralsei never asked susie if she enjoyed her ferris wheel ride, or how she felt about noelle, he just watched from a distance and assumed how she felt, because it suits his deterministic worldview. rudy never asked susie if she wanted to go out with noelle, iirc, he just assumed she would say yes, because he loves noelle, and wants noelle to be happy. everyone else is just imposing roles onto susie, the same as they always have!

and while in the real world, having a gay lover is an act of defiance against oppressive social norms, in the world of deltarune, its the opposite! no one is telling her she can't, and everyone wants her to (with the exception of catti, and the couple asshole classmates). even if susie DOES have feelings for noelle, those feelings are sullied by the fact that everyone is still removing her agency, STILL telling her who she is and isn't allowed to be! would you still like your partner if you learned they had done everything in their power to make sure you would end up with them? obsessively collecting information on you in order to seem more appealing, constructing situations for you to meet up in a way where it seems organic, trying to get closer to you by any means necessary? i don't think susie would.

the thing susie seems to value most out of anything is her own agency in choosing what she gets to do, and how she gets to do it. no societal norm, social convention, narrative trope or gameplay mechanic stands in her way of choosing what she wants to do. she won't let you take her armor off unless you give her something else. when you give her a more powerful weapon, she won't accept a weaker one. she's too good for that. susie can dance on her own if she wants, she isn't stupid. it's not fair that kris gets to make all the choices, so its her turn now. heal prayer is boring, so she makes up her own spell. she challenges the idea that darkners are a slave race because she wouldn't want to be complicit in such a system. she believes they should be free to make their own choices. in what world would a person who values freedom above all be happy knowing that their partner wasn't going to let them make their own choice? this isn't even a question of whether or not susie likes noelle, its a question of if susie would be okay knowing that noelle feels, however unconsciously, as if susie belongs to her in some way. and i believe the answer is no.

and this rejection would hurt regardless of if susie liked noelle back, because we do like noelle, flawed as she is. and that rejection forces noelle to change in some way. either she accepts that susie's freedom to choose means the freedom not to be with her, or she doubles down and tries to win her over. she doesn't get what she wants, so she has to choose to get better and start seeing susie as a person, and not merely an idol, or a fantasy, or she has to choose to get worse, and cling onto susie harder.

my rejection of suselle is only somewhat about susie's feelings towards noelle, and is mostly about susie's freedom to not have those feelings, a freedom which is being violated by the "narrative" she exists in, the "Legend of DELTA RUNE"

she deserves a choice, and when the person in question, noelle, doesn't seem to care about how she feels, and only wants susie to be hers, i think she'll choose no, even if she did really like noelle. maybe even especially if she really liked noelle. people talk about how betrayed susie will feel learning kris is possessed and darkners are objects, but what about when she learns noelle was willing to change herself to be whatever susie wants, was willing to treat friends poorly, to almost stalk her, just to make her hers? would she be able to trust her feelings for noelle learning that it was all out of her control, that she hadn't been given a choice?

this isn't even to say they won't end up together in the end. its just to say it can't be like this. it cant be with a noelle who doesn't really respect susie's personhood and sees her more as an object whose affection must be won, and it can't be by the will of a divine entity that orchestrated everything for susie to end up with her. it has to be susie's choice.

this is kind of why i like ralsusie. what better way to make a display of your agency than to reject literally everything others have coaxed you into? rejecting the prophecy, rejecting noelle's advances, rejecting the player's agency, rejecting the concept of darkners not being real people.

its not like she can only choose to be the bully no one likes or the hero protector who ends up with noelle. its a false dichotomy, where fate locks her up and offers an escape, but the "escape" is only another cell. true escape is carving your own path, playing by your own rules.

the susie crush stuff doesnt happen, but berdly is still put out of commission post mind control but does assist the same in the punch out bit

THE PARTY OF FOUR BATTLE SYSTEM!!!! is basically the same but now berdly is there (colour orange)

berdly is effectively an offensive spellcaster type (enemy debuffs (varying with opponent), party buffs (both of which last between 1 and 3 turns and dont stack), damage spells etc) the B-actions center around bragging (about himself OR his team), rambling about videogames and being a nerd. his boss kris assist action (think red buster and dual heal) would likely be something that buffs a random effect on the team by a TON (every time its used the prior buff goes away because balance) to call back to the smaller, specialized buffs and debuffs he typically gives, his spamton neo special B-action shrinks the soul to make it easier to dodge but disables the big shot

in snowgrave, instead of dying, he also gets manipulated into just going with it

SPAMTON NEO FIGHT!!! his general reaction is just confusion mixed with anger (because frankly he would see a bit too much he had in common with the sneaky salesman than he'd be comfortable with)

chapter one is largely the same but ralsei slips in that there is a fourth hero (this gets brushed off as kris and susie are a bit distracted dealing with king, jevil, darkworlds in general etc) (idk i didnt think that bit through (feel free to reply with your ideas for chapter 1 changes))

berdly has a surprisingly good grasp on everything due to how many videogames he plays but he does have to adjust to the fact that he shouldnt fight everyone. it is also due to this knowledge of gaming that he absolutely does not trust ralsei, because if berdly learned one thing from his years of rpgs its that if the happy-go-lucky goody-2-shoes character hides anything at all ever, they will be an enemy later (like chekhovs gun)

Deltarune: Fruit Punch Theory

WARNING: CRACKPOT THEORY!!

Okay, so I have no idea how to start this off. This theory is about Concept art mostly, and that is going to be the evidence. Thats all.

Toby has shown concept art for Deltarune chapters 3-?? On his Twitter (or X), and lets just say, its Interesting.

I need you to look at the bowl. Whats inside? Fruit Punch. Presumably. Where is Punch usually served? Dances. What dance is known about in Deltarune? The Sadie Hawkmens Dance, where teachers wear Bird masks and screech at students who come in contact or whatever.

So, could this mean that this chapter will take place there? Probably not. But lets go with that.

What else? I mean, the theory done, isnt it?

In Spamton Sweepstakes (i think) there is a link that sends you to a picture of a chair with a blanket on it, with text "What if we could go Darker then Dark?". Well what could that mean?

Back to the Fruit Punch. So we know the Knight is making these Dark Worlds, Right? Well the Knight could be Papyrus, and what is He known for? Cooking.

Maybe Papyrus could make this punch, and inside... Is Pure Darkness. Whos drinking this Darkness? Susie.

Heres where things get into unknown territory. The rest of this is gonna be me saying things with no evidence whatsoever, so DO NOT take this seriously.

Susie drinking darkness?! Oh boy! Thats probably not good. So what happens next? A dark world. Opens. Inside susie. And Catty, Kris, and Noelle are sucked in Bowsers Inside Story style.

Also, I am aware monsters in this universe dont have blood, or digest, and probably other stuff to, this is just a shitpost theory cuz im bored.

This chapter I Dont think Ralsei would be here because... How? How would he get there? Instead, He would be replaced by Noelle in This Dark world, With Catty in Susies Role.

Would Ralsei and Kris ever have a genuine heart-to-heart while on their journey? I can't help but think Kris' presence would positively influence Ralsei in some aspects, considering they provide actual companionship. While Ralsei's priorities will always be with the soul, little by little, he might form an authentic bond with Kris by complete accident. Oops?

Conversely, Kris would become more jaded the further they venture through the Dark World. I can imagine someone like Queen trying to convince them to believe their family never loved them, including Asriel, and in a bizarrely uncharacteristic moment of empathy, Ralsei would be the one to pull Kris out of those negative thoughts. Ralsei would tell himself Kris succumbing to despair would derail his plans for the Light World, but if that was the case, why didn't he reverse those moments by using Kris' soul instead of comforting them? Simple: he vastly underestimated my love for fanfic friendship tropes. Beneficial partnership to genuine friendships? Hell yes! You got nowhere to run, Prince!

They probably did talk quite a bit about Kris's feelings and other things during their journey! However, even if Ralsei's priority is getting to the light world, actual companionship with Kris is perhaps not a complete accident. It might be something that Ralsei has quietly been gunning for all along. He is also a lonely prince, after all! The problem is, what Ralsei considers genuine friendship might have some serious dangers for Kris!

•What exactly is this AU about?

Its just a funny little AU where not all monsters were locked underground and some went into hiding instead. Some species of monster in this AU can take on human form with their magic, hence why this is possible. Of course, this doesnt stop kiddos, human or monster, from climbing that darn mountain though.

•When is the next page?

Duotale updates every other Friday. Time varies but I try to keep it between 10am and 12pm EST. If either day falls on a holiday, the page will be posted the following day.

•Why is this AU called Duotale?

Because the two main characters are twins, hence the Duo in Duotale. Ok they aren't twins, but they are siblings, born a few months apart. Yes, Strawberry is the Older one.

•Is the player a thing in this AU?

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the AUs in the Citadel. No one is controlling the Duotale cast though. They've had their own mind and actions from the start. Underplayer is in the Citadel though, if you count them as a player.

●Can my AU be featured in your comic?

Why yes. Just refer to the link in the Masterpost labeled "how to get your AU into the comic". Follow the rules, answer the questions, and you'll be in where we can fit you! Yes :3. I'll leave it at that. Ralsei will make an appearance in asks or art, Susie may or may not be in the comic itself. Here's the boi. During the comic he's a lil toddler. (Gender explaination is below btw for those that care.)

•Is Kris gonna be Frisk or Luci's counterpart?

No. Neither. They will be their own person.

●Is Clover gonna make an appearance?

Like Kris, the cowboy ghost will be there, but unlike Kris, you won't see him in comic til the end. He will (and has already) pop up on our blog, like Dalv or Star sherrif boi, but in comic, sorry, hes in Asgore's castle and that's so far away right now lmao. But here's how he looks. Yes, he knows the fox stole his hat. He does not know where his gun is, though.

●Will xxx color soul child also be in this AU?

Depends. We already have the Yellow soul decided (obvi). If There's another colored child you wanna see pop up as a canon-to-duotale ghost at the end of the comic you can ask, but so far only Clover and MAYBE Marine(Patience soul) but the lore is off that comic might contradict yellow or ours so that's undecided. Any other kids so far would be only seen in the MVC. We're trying not to pick kids in full existing sets so thats why Clover and maybe Marine are our only choices so far. We are more likely to make up the rest tbh. No more red souls though beyond cameos. Red souls work a special way in our AU and there's not a lot (if any) that can fit that requirement.

•Can other ghosts see Chara/Luci?

Yes. And she can see said other ghosts. Strawberry can only see those that she summons and Blackberry can see ghosts as well. Frisky can sense spirits near him but obviously cannot see them.

●Why do some characters have rings around them?

That just means they're dead. Ghosts. Spirits that didn't move on to heven or hell. The ring color matches the color of their soul and doesn't change. Luci, Blackberry, Dalv, and Kris have special rings though. They change color based on emotions. This color changing mood ring is only available to one species and it starts becoming visible around puberty. Luci is fullblooded, hence why her ring is always visible and changing like a rainbow, though Blackie and Kris aren't fullblooded, so their rings might be a bit faultly ha. If you're every curious what the colors mean, you can refer to the link labeled "Luci's mood ring" on the master post. Or a more simplified list ca be found on her teen ref.

•What exactly are the main cast's species?

Blackie is is a halfbreed kitsune vampire, Luci is a purebreed vampire with demonic powers, Strawberry is a tanuki who practices witch magic, and Frisky is a human. He just has a magical scarf to give him wings like redbull. As for Kris... you'll figure it out. No spoilers, sorry lol.

•How did you come up with the idea of Duotale?

Originally this story was gonna be a comic of our own runs in Undertale, showing how they clash and would effect each other. Kinda like thise PMD comics and Nuzlocke animations people make. But somewhere between writing the script and making the first cover art, we changed our minds and made a whole AU instead.

•Is fanart allowed?

Yes uwu. Remember that this is an Alternate Universe, as in not sticking to the game's lore to a T. So please dont start a fuss over this. If canon versions of the characters ever speak or are spoken to in the Citadel, they will be referred to by the genders Toby (NOT THE FANDOM) placed on them, so be happy with that smh.

Ralsei is a Titan.

"The unending pillar of darkness that gives my body form" dedication in Ralsei's manual matches Ralsei's description of Titans "tak[ing] form from the FOUNTAINS"

Ralsei's body completely disappears when downed

Ralsei was first completely shadowy and amorphous within his hooded cloak, then a bit more defined but still shadowy under his hat, before finally settling on a more visible form at the end of Chapter 1

Just before removing his hat, for a couple of frames Ralsei's sprite changes his paw color from black to white. As well, where Ralsei previously had black paws in various animations such as clapping or spell use, they are now white in Chapter 2. These suggest that Ralsei's shadowy appearance is not simply caused by the shade from his hat.

Ralsei's initial description is a somewhat ambiguous "Dark-World being"

Unlike normal Darkners, Ralsei does not turn to stone and can seemingly teleport between Dark Worlds at will

Ralsei is the sole denizen of Castle Town, an area seemingly abandoned or evacuated, where Titan-like eye marks and darkness covers the land

Ralsei knows a lot about the Roaring

"Do not be alarmed... I am not your enemy." is one of Ralsei's first words to Kris and Susie

Ralsei wants to redeem himself for participating in the last Roaring by stopping it from happening again.

Again: Ralsei is the sole denizen of Castle Town, an area seemingly abandoned or evacuated, where Titan-like eye marks and darkness covers the land

Ralsei’s portrait/sprite when talking about the Roaring seems haunted

Ralsei says “I...I’m sorry!!! I repent!!!” in the generally foreshadowy Poppup dialogue

However, Ralsei is an unwitting pawn in a greater villain's scheme.

Ralsei is characterized as overly keen to follow orders.

Poppup dialogue: “Ralsei moved to click on an ad with a bunny on it teaching you how to make friends... ...and accidentally clicked on an ad of a machine gun that appeared over it!” / “Ralsei tried to click on an ad with a castle on it... ...but it was actually an ad for a company that demolishes buildings with bazookas!”

Again: Poppup dialogue: “I... I didn’t mean to do it... I... I’m sorry!!! I repent!!!”

In order to fix his mistakes or save the world, Ralsei may sacrifice himself, perhaps becoming the Waterfall statue in Undertale.

Undyne states "That statue's been here forever... No one knows where it came from." This description seems similar to Gerson's explanation of the Delta Rune: "That emblem actually predates written history. The original meaning has been lost to time..."

The statue is greyscale and cracked, like Darkners such as Lancer when turned to stone

The statue has horns, like Ralsei (note that the direction of Ralsei's horns varies across sprites/portraits and concept art, sometimes being turned inward and other times outward)

The statue is associated with the song "Memory," which is associated with Asriel, who appears connected to Ralsei

The statue in Waterfall may have been part of the original Royal Memorial Fountain before Mettaton's statue replaced it

If so: Ralsei is associated with all three concepts of a "Royal Memorial Fountain," being a prince who is made from a Dark Fountain and, as "memory" is a prevalent theme in Deltarune and Ralsei sings its "Don't Forget" motif in battle, with remembrance as well

Other things:

Ralsei appears self-aware in the same way as Jevil and others.

Raily switches with ralsei, he is now a bartender who makes root beer floats. The castle town is also now an old western town instead. He isn’t very nice per say, but he try’s to be most of the time…. Till he just can’t take these darkeners shit anymore-

Pully switches with the red tree in chapter 1, remember that tree you have to find in chapter 1? Well it’s now a hollowed out flower. Yay.

red tree switches with pully, they are kinda like a fungus infection of some kind, when you beat ralsei they will start to grow out of his body. Think of it as the last of us but it’s a goat with some kind of red tree fungus.

kriss always wanted to be a hero as a kid, and that's where the. whole like. knight aesthetic of their dark world design comes in. probably has a helmet and everything and is more specifically based on normal undyne. suzy is suzy. kriss and suzy are also like. closer than kris and susie? that or it's just. highlighted more.

Hi, there. Happy Saint Patrick's Day! To celebrate I'm showing you the Soul of Justice:Serif the sheriff

I gave him a Yellow color scheme to represent how his brothers wear Red and Blue. His Skin color is white to represent his brothers, and his hair is Red to represent his relationship with the Player. I believe that Miku's relationship with Serif will start out rough, with him helping his Brother Sans trick her into believing that he'll introduce her to Papyrus, but he ends up introducing her to Serif instead. I imagined that she'll be annoyed at both Sans and Serif for, but also at herself for not realizing that Sans' was planning to troll her a LOT sooner. The main reason why I imagine that it's serif that revealed Ralsei's secret, is both because Justice and honestly goes hand to hand(The symbolism of the soul tied to Truth to let the player know about the TRUTH regarding Ralsei's)and because I don't see the soul of Integrity finding out about the player until the Final battle, and I believe that Serif know about the player thanks to Sans.

Out of all of the human souls from Undertale, I feel the most bad about how Serif has been treated by the Undertale Fanbase. Like everyone just believes that he's evil and genocidal just because he uses a gun. I believe that the only reason why Toby even gave him a gun in the first place is so he can use the Serif/Sheriff pun later.
