oooh, this is an interesting one

i once told a friend, i forget who, that Mikel is what an AI would spit out if i gave it a bunch of traits i find desirable in a man. and fitting for an AI, mikel isn't actually someone i want in that way, if that makes sense? he's kind of...uncanny valley. off-putting. not quite "inscrutable," but, hmmm. sort of like his life partner granit, he's unlike anyone else out there, but in a very different way than granit is.

favorite thing about them: the passion, the stubbornness, the slight insanity, the toothy-grinned charisma. i think he'd be a great politician, which is a compliment in a sense that i love politicians in an academic sort of way (hate them in practice, with very few exceptions). the behind the scenes machinations re: auba's departure in all or nothing were kind of terrifying and fascinating at once. also, what he did for granit literally brings me to tears. it's the disney love story that disney love stories want to be. oh, also his ass. what the fuck kind of workouts is he doing

maybe, in some ways, The Best OTP Of All Time (*aside from rakidrić). it's everything, everything.

i write about it a lot on here from the perspective of what Xhakarteta did for granit, and will do that again in my granit ask. i think it wasn't as obvious specifically what it did for mikel until granit left and mikel really seems to have lost his marbles a little. i have the feeling that mikel doesn't fully respect that many people, or trust that many people, and i think his utter and complete respect/trust for granit was a relief to him, and having granit around as his true equal did more for his stability than he knew.

plus they're gorgeous together physically. imagine their kids! like. damn. they'd also speak some of the coolest languages on the planet.

xhakarteta is weird because i bash on my own writing a lot, but i'm really satisfied with how i write and interpret them. i give them that little exciting something extra 😈

random headcanon: mikel probably has the most basic milquetoast liberal politics on the planet

unpopular opinion: he looked better with the Rangers-era long hair and he needs his earring back! i don't know how unpopular that is on tumblr, but i think it's unpopular with him lol

Look I think we all know the weirdest. So what was your favourite? And your first?

I'm not that sure about the weirdest! I think Unai/football pairing makes a lot of sense, and there could be more written about it, and I think I wrote weirder (in the sense of cringeworthy, pointless) fics haha.

My favorite... hmmm. The Stands of Villa Park for its novelty as I mentioned in the previous ask. Never felt so much alike because it gives me a chance to explore the fucked up relationship (with a bit of piss kink), which I like. From the old ones, I remember being very proud of His although I haven't read it in ages since I'm afraid it will ruin the perception I have of it as the perfect Rakidrić fic. Oh, and definitely Strangers in the night, because it's very random, but I just felt like writing something angsty about Souness and Keane being so deep in the closet.

My first fic ever was probably a crack fic about Karl Marx/Friedrich Engles lol. But it wasn't serious stuff. Maybe Hamilton/Laurens thing - which I wrote BACK IN 2011 BEFORE ANY HAMILTON MUSICAL EXISTED. It was basically a story of how Hamilton sees Laurens' ghost before his duel, and Laurens "leads him to the afterlife" lol. It was very sappy and bad. I also wrote a Lewis/Clark thing. I just loved American history at the time. I sort of revisited this once I got back into American history through Hamilton, in Let's fade together, let's fade forever. I wrote a couple of historical RPF back in the day (I studied history and enjoyed all the possible ships from it). And actually, my first football slash wasn't even the Rakidrić Madness one! I wrote one in Czech which I posted on my old blog (which doesn't exist anymore), and it was a Ferenc Puskás/Sándor Kocsis one (the two of them cuddling up close when they learn about the occupation of Hungary in 1956, when they're abroad with the team). Yep, 1950s footballers going wild, lol. It still might be somewhere.... I'm not sure I want to find it though. But the first one on AO3 is Madness, the start of the Rakidrić madness.

Ivan. Luka doesn’t even have to ask for it, Ivan just knows by looking at him.

2- Who giggles uncontrollably when the other playfully picks them up?

Luka does and Ivan finds it cute that’s why he does it so often.

They’re both really lowkey on the PDA but usually Ivan, especially when it comes to praising Luka about football, he won’t stop saying how amazing he played and how he’s the best and so on. It makes Luka blush.

4- Who is more likely to tell the other a pun and what is the other’s reaction to the pun?

Puns aren’t really their thing, Luka has more of a sarcastic sense of humour and Ivan just likes to tease him a lot by joking around. But one time Ivan said one and it made Luka cringe for days.

5- When one of them has a bad day, what does the other do to help cheer them up?

They throw on some sweatpants and hoodies and get takeout and just cuddle in front of a movie.

6- If they got to pick what one another wears for a day, what would one another wear?“

Luka would want Ivan to wear those fit jeans he has that “make his tooshie look nice” and a white t-shirt because Ivan’s arms are Luka’s favorite part of him.

Ivan would always try to get Luka to wear his barcelona jersey, which he always strongly refused to do, except for that one time when he lost a bet.

7- Who introduces their partner to their family first? How does it go?

Luka, although it wasn’t planned. His parents just showed up at his apartment in Zagreb when Ivan had spent the night over. They were surprised at first because they already knew Ivan but didn’t know that this was going on. So of course, knowing how close they were and how much Ivan cared about Luka, they were very happy for their son.

8- In a coffee shop AU, who would be the coffee shop employee and who would be the customer?

Ivan is the cheesy barista that writes down his number on Luka’s coffee.

9- When they sit side by side, do they touch one another? For example, does one person has their arm around the other, do they sit holding hands, or linked arms, ECT.

Always all up in each other’s personal spaces. When standing next to each other Ivan puts his arm around Luka’s shoulders. When they’re sitting, Luka rests his head on Ivan’s shoulder or puts his legs on him, sometimes he’ll even fall asleep with his head in his lap. When they sleep, they become a tangled mess of limbs.

10- What is a small thing that one another does to make their partner happy?

Ivan’s gonna come home with snacks that Luka loves like Kiki and Bananko.

Luka neatly folds up Ivan’s laundry and prepares both of their lunches and bags for practice.

11- What would they do to celebrate their one year anniversary?

They fly to Croatia and have dinner in Luka’s favorite restaurant. They spend the night together before they have to go back to Madrid and Barcelona where they won’t be able to see each other for a few days.

12- When did they know that loved each other, and when did they first tell each other that they loved one another?

Ivan knew first but Luka said it first. 

It was back when Ivan first joined the national team. He had played for Croatia for a couple of months and this was their first big victory. The team went out to a bar to celebrate and everyone, as they tend to do, got pretty drunk. They were up on tables, signing and dancing and hugging. By the end of the night the two of them were part of the few remaining in the bar and as they were dancing together, Ivan looked at Luka and he just knew. 

It was a few months after that, the team reunited in Zagreb for a game. They were sharing a room and because they hadn’t seen each other for some time, they spent all night talking. At some point Ivan said something that made Luka die of laughter and as his giggles quieted down, he let it slip out. Those three accidental words also lead to their first kiss.

13- Who likes to give the other hugs from behind followed by a kiss?

Luka does it all the time because he’s soft and cuddly and constantly seeking Ivan’s affection. When Ivan is cooking or when they wake up or even in training. Any opportunity he gets, really. He likes to just sneak up behind him and wrap his arms around his taller partner who usually answers the hug with a kiss on Luka’s forehead or lips.

12 & 13! And if you haven’t cowritten, would you?

12. I...sort of co-wrote with my ex? We wrote copious fics together and created whole AUs and what we'd do is one of us would write a fic, and then the other would write the same fic but from another one of the POVs. That was really fun and fascinating. I don't miss our relationship--it got way too intense even for my intense ass--but we called each other "fic soulmates" and I do really miss that.

13. My favorite ship right now is probably...Xhakarteta 🥺 honorable mentions to Rakidrić and some Frank ship or another hahah. I just get so emotional thinking about Xhakarteta even though it's...over, I guess. Not only is it hot, it's so weirdly just like a fairy tale romance 😭 misunderstood guy at his mental worst, about to put pen on paper to leave the prem for the bundesliga, and then he is literally saved, redeemed, and uplifted so his true self can be seen, by the power of mutual respect and understanding and hard work and patience and love 😭

It's sad that 9 out of 10 shippers of Rakidrić bow down to Modric, and Rakitic is just an appendix, an addendum to him. And this app is easily replaceable with Ramos, Kroos, Kovacic, anyone. If only Modric the cinnamon bun smiled at any man, no matter who. I was wrong? Then why are 9 out of 10 rakidric shippers rooting for Luka's club, and not Ivan, and fasting Luka, and not Ivan 24/7?

The fanfiction that holds a special place in your heart

Definitely the fics that were at the beginning of now "big" ships - I was the second person to post a Rakidrić fic on AO3, and the first person to post a Gavi/Pedri fic in there. I like being ahead of the curve, to be kind of "proven right" about certain chemistries being interesting and appealing. And I like the idea that someone thought of Gavi/Pedri fic, searched AO3, and mine was The One fic that was there in their time of need - before others eventually got the balls to write one as well (and now there's almost 350 fics with Gavi/Pedri, which is amazing, since it's a lovely ship). So these two will always be kind of special in this sense. I wrote a bunch of unpopular/rare ships, and I don't strive to write what's popular or what most people would read - I hope that someone might read my fic and think - this makes sense, why didn't I know/think about this pairing; rather than being one of the billions who write about Messi/Ron or Messi/Neymar etc.

I also wrote the first Harry Kane/Pochettino fic, and I'm sad and disappointed there's not more about them! (they deserved it)

Your weirdest fanfiction

In terms of pairing, definitely the Unai/Football one, but I am proud of it and once again - I think it is subtle and it makes sense. Like, it's written in a way that could convince someone to ship them, haha (I hope). I think the weirdest in the sense of story itself it's probably Italian Cuisine. I cringe at the stuff I wrote about Ronaldo/Dybala, because a lot of it was pure PWP with a bit of angst. It was really explicit compared with what I've been writing lately; and it's basically meaningless porn that's not really my style anymore. It feels weird to me now that I was like - oh sure, lets write about Ron fucking Dybala with a cucumber. There's no other meaning, or reason, or any sort of explanation.... It's literally just that. And I think I don't like writing stuff like that anymore.

I wrote a lot of "weird" things in terms of incest, omorashi, piss kink, priest!AU, priest kink, Basque separatism!AU, or even more in the past - Trudeau/Macron PWP lol ... But I think all of these were justified/served the story/served the exploration of the dynamic - but there is just no excuse for the cucumber story, period.

Your spiciest fanfiction

Uuufff, that's difficult to say since I find most of my PWPs from 2018-2019 cringy (and that's when I wrote most of the spicy stuff). Probably Rakidrić's Never knew anyone in love or Three is a charm (Two is not the same) about Kane/Poch/Southgate threesome. And of course, the priest kink with Dalić/Modrić (and it was my first risqué fic, or a fic that I felt like some people might have a problem with), I do like a priest kink hehehehe. Once again I would write it a bit differently and probably more...subtly today? I think I wrote a couple of nice spicy PWP things back in the day, but now I feel like I use smut scarcely, non-explicitly, or as a tool to depict someone's deep desperation and inability to connect/communicate in other way (Lampardverse, Frank/Mason, Scamacca/Paquetá...)

The fanfiction you are the most proud of

Right now, probably The Stands of Villa Park. Ngl, some parts made me emotional, because it made me think of the reasons why ppl love football so much, and how important it is, how it is part of life (I wrote my Master's thesis about something slightly covering this subject, so naturally I am passionate about it) - and it gave me an opportunity to explore all of this in a deeper, visceral manner of someone who would not survive without football, who needs it more than food and drink, and who needs all his senses filled with football, football, and only football.

I'm proud of the whole Lampardverse experience (but it's not my verse wink wink) and its stories because it just makes sense and explains a lot.

I think atmosphere wise, I really like Briefly and We'll Always Have London because of the heavy implications and what is left unsaid - the unrequited feeling in the former, and the relationship breaking up in the latter. I like having that in fics.

The fanfiction you were most hesitant to post

The Grizicest saga. I feel like it was sort of an appetizer before Lampardverse, and a lot of the themes first explored in Grizicest are now being rediscovered in Lampardverse. I actually got one anon hate for the Grizou, Grizou story on my previous blog loooool. Today, I would write it differently, definitely. But the main plot would probably stay mostly the same.

Also, today I wouldn't care at all about someone hating on that story. Look, (wo)man, I feel like writing a story about Unai fucking a football pitch. Or a trophy. Or Scamacca pissing on Paquetá, or Cousin Jamie breeding Franko. What are you going to do about it? As I said in the notes for my last fic, patrolling days are over.
