[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 13th Oct. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, on October 12, 2024, virtually inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), totaling ₹2,236 crore. These projects, comprising 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other developments, span across 11 states and Union Territories. The breakdown includes 19 projects in Jammu & Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, 9 in Uttarakhand, 6 in Sikkim, 5 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 each in West Bengal and Rajasthan, and 1 each in Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Headquarters of the Trishakti Corps in Sukna, West Bengal, with one of the key projects being the Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim. This road serves as a critical link between Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and the Zuluk axis. A Step Towards Enhanced Defence and Socio-Economic Growth In his address, Rajnath Singh emphasized that these infrastructure developments reflect the government’s commitment to bolstering border infrastructure and enhancing socio-economic progress in remote regions. He highlighted that these projects would significantly boost India’s defence preparedness and align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047.’ With the launch of these 75 projects, BRO has completed 111 infrastructure projects in 2024, at a combined cost of ₹3,751 crore. This includes 36 projects worth ₹1,508 crore, featuring high-profile developments like the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister earlier this year. In 2023, 125 BRO projects were dedicated to the nation, with a cumulative investment of ₹3,611 crore. Government’s Focus on Strategic Border Development Acknowledging the dedication of BRO personnel, Rajnath Singh praised their efforts in completing projects under challenging conditions. He also underscored the government’s intention to further strengthen border infrastructure during its third term, supported by a budgetary allocation of ₹6,500 crore for BRO in the Union Budget 2024-25. This increased funding aims to not only advance strategic infrastructure but also drive socio-economic growth in border areas, including the North-East region. Rajnath Singh pointed out a shift in the government’s approach since 2014, where previous administrations had hesitated to develop border areas due to strategic concerns. He reiterated the Modi government’s priority on border region development, recognizing its importance from both socio-economic and strategic standpoints. “In the last decade, we have built a vast network of roads from villages to cities, which has resulted in the country witnessing progress at an unprecedented pace,” he stated. Vision for a Secure and Stronger Nation Concluding his address, Rajnath Singh assured that the development of border areas would continue to expand, promising a secure and resilient India in the future. He highlighted that India is on a path to becoming one of the safest and strongest nations. Distinguished Attendees at the Event The virtual event witnessed the presence of prominent officials, including Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary-designate RK Singh, and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the event from the main site in Sherathang, Sikkim. Additionally, Governors of several states, Lt Governors of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and Union Ministers joined the event virtually, underlining the significance of this national initiative. PM's "140 Crore People" Reply To Lalu Yadav's "Modi Has No Family" Swipe
Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP today launched the "Modi Ka Parivar" campaign to counter Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Yadav's personal attack, in which the veteran leader said the Prime Minister has no family.
"Leaders of the INDI alliance, deeply engrossed in corruption, nepotism and appeasement, are becoming nervous. When I question their 'parivarvad', they say Modi has no family," the Prime Minister said at a rally in Telangana's Adilabad.
"My life is an open book, 140 crore people of the country are my family. Today, crores of daughters, mothers and sisters of the country are Modi's family. Every poor person in the country is my family. Those who have no one belong to Modi and Modi belongs to them," he added.
Top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, added "Modi ka parivar" to their social media handles today.
Addressing a rally of the INDIA Opposition bloc in Patna, Mr Prasad had yesterday hit back at the Prime Minister's charge of dynasty politics against Opposition parties, including RJD. "What can we do if Narendra Modi does not have a family of his own?" he had said. "He keeps bragging about the Ram temple. He is not even a true Hindu. In Hindu tradition, a son must shave his head and beard after the death of his parents. Modi did not do so when his mother died," he had said.
In a message of solidarity, top BJP leaders today added "Modi ka parivar" to their social media handles. The leaders who added the phrase, meaning "Modi's family", to their handles on X include Mr Shah, Mr Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Nitin Gadkari and Anurag Thakur, and veteran BJP leader and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami have also joined in.
The "Modi ka parivar" campaign is on the lines of the "Main bhi chowkidar" drive ahead of the 2019 general election. BJP leaders had then added "Main bhi chowkidar (I am a watchman too)" to their social media handles to counter Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's "Chowkidaar chor hai" jab at the Prime Minister.
Mr Yadav's remarks on the Prime Minister yesterday drew a sharp response from BJP leaders in Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha yesterday described the remarks as "offensive" and "disrespectful". "The language used by Lalu Prasad against our PM shows his mindset. They (RJD) are against Sanatan Dharma and are trying to destroy the centuries-old tradition," he said. "They behave like political jokers. We must stop such forces. What our PM has done for Sanatan Dharma is well-known," he said.

US sends stern message to China on Tawang clash: 'Fully support India's effort'
China is growingly asserting itself and being proactive in areas directed toward US allies and partners in Indo-Pacific, Pentagon press secretary Pat Ryder said.
The Pentagon said the US department of defence is closely watching the situation along the Line of Actual Control and slammed China for continuing to “amass forces and build military infrastructure along the so-called LAC”. Pentagon press secretary Pat Ryder said it is important to point out the growing trend by China to assert itself and ‘be proactive’ in areas directed toward US allies and partners in Indo-Pacific. “We will continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to ensure the security of our partners. We fully support India’s effort to de-escalate the situation,” Pat Ryder said.
On December 9, there was a clash between the Indian soldiers and the Chinese troops at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh on the India-China border. Chinese troops tries to transgress the LAC and unilaterally change the status quo leading to a clash in which the Indian soldiers gave a firm and resolute response forcing the Chinese side to retreat. In his statement presented in Parliament. defence minister Rajnath Singh said there was no fatality and no serious injuries to the Indian soldiers.
Following the face-off, the local commander of the Indian Army held a flag meeting with his counterpart on December 11.
This is the second major face-off between the Indian and the Chinese troops after Galwan in 2020 while talks regarding the border issues are going on between the two sides.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the US is closely monitoring the situation and is glad to note that there was a quick disengagement.
India and the United States recently held the 18th edition of the two country’s joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ in Uttarakhand about 100 km from the Line of Actual Control to which China expressed its objection and said it violated the spirit of the two agreements signed between New Delhi and Beijing.
Both India and US rejected China’s opposition to the joint exercise and said no third country is allowed to comment on such matters. While India said the India-US exercise had nothing to do with the 1993 and 1996 agreements, the US said it was none of China’s business to comment.
Three Indian Army troops — Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, Jat regiment and Sikh Light Infantry — thwarted the attack from the Chinese troops who came armed with clubs, sticks and other equipment, reports said. The Indian side was prepared and when the attack took place, one of the units was being relieved by a new unit. Chinese troops came with drones apparently to shoot the entire clash, reports said.
