✧✦✧✦✧
As the darkness consumes me, I let the bitting cold spread through out my body, closing my eyes and settle to the back of my mind where the thoughts and whispers of quiet voices echo before drowing me down to it's depths.
I remember
I remember how everything was simple, so nice, so kind and.....
warm.
Oh so warm, she was warm, her voice, her smell, her touch and her love? it was the warmest thing I have ever felt and yet it's the thing I can never have, not anymore-
As I opened my eyes to greet death instead a blinding light made be flinch before blinking and see a light down the tunnel of the abyss flickering then grew size and engulfed me.
Gasping I woke and see myself back to where everything I ever wanted be again, looking down I see my small chubby fingers as I curl it around my palms over before looking up and catch a sight of my blurry younger self sitting on the floor infront of our old box TV.
Looking around I saw glimpse of my old home-
a broken window that was hit by a brick from one of the drunk neighbors as I remember her turning red as she almost ripped the lock off the window to pry it open and hear her curse like a true sailor before turning around and hear me laughing for some reason -her calling me a weird baby before blowing raspberries on my cheeks- then fixing it by using packing tapes.
a few planters on the corners from when she met a nice botanist lady and talk her into having greens around the house since it was to create a nice environment for a baby especially in gotham.
And a few wallpers with newspapers taped to cover rips, tears or holes but she won't use the ones where 'he's' in front page which was almost always but-
It was a busted down and dirty home that held the most beautiful and warmest memories that I'm slowly forgeting as I am losing myself more bit by bit.
"......"
A hum and a voice broke me out of my thoughts as I turn my head to see a figure working around the kitchen behind the couch.
My breath hitch as I take a deep breath as I push myself up and stood up on my shaking legs before taking a step and another till I reach the corner of the counter as I hear her humming closing in, peaking my head I stare at the back of her form as she continues to stir a pot of stew that I grew to forget.
"........ma?". I whisper and I rounded the corner of the counter, watching with baited breath as she stops by the cue of my tiny voice and raise her head.
I watch and move closely as she turns her head but with my younger and lower height the light shines from the window on her head obscuring her face to my view, her face? what does her face look like? why can't I remember her face? What does she looks like? Why do I keep forgetting?! WHY DID I FORGET?! THAT'S YOUR MOTHER! WHAT KIND OF-?!
".....? Oh! Sweetie Oh my God! Come here! Mama's here!". Her voice broke pass the voices as I feel her hand cupping the back of my head as her arms wrap around me and pull me in.
Eyes wide open I stare at the back of her again but with my head on the crook her neck and her fingers run through my hair and scalp lulling me and my thoughts to calm down.
"Mama...mama...mama". I tried to talk to her but only one words comes out making me frustrated and angry as I grip the back of her shirt while I feel her body rumble from her humming and soft hushing.
"It's okay baby, Mama's here you're okay, you're okay". She whispers and lay a kiss on the side of my head as she moves to carry up and sway to lull me to sleep.
'Mama.....I miss you....I miss everything about you....I miss your touch, your smell, your love.........I don't wanna forget you please......'
As her humming echo around the room hitting the corners and wall, so was the darkness creeping in and wrap around my head, each sway of her body stirs my eyes to close and each melody made my heartbeat match to the tone.
"It's okay my little love Mama's right here, I'll stay waiting till you're ready but for now rest". Her voice speaks to me as my eyes finally closed and drift me back to the abyss.
"I love you Ma, goodbye".
I say my last farewell one last time before opening up to the world and catch my eyes glaring at the rear-view mirror, two pools swirling around filled up by exhaustion and pain hiding underneath a never ending dark pits of anger and malice.
"Oh Dear Mother, we'll be together soon"

Here's another former post that hasn't sold. I don't know why- the 1964 property in Arvada, CO may look boring on the outside, but there's fun on the inside. 5bds, 5ba, $1.99M + $17mo. HOA. The listing was removed in 6/21 and just re-listed 3 yrs. later in 6/24.
Look, it's like a tropical paradise. Nice and bright, perfect for plants.
And, since the home is actually a mid-century build it has a cool conversation pit. Look at that - a raised electric fireplace.
Then, over here they have some bean bag chairs, but you could put whatever style of furniture you like, and there's a Zen looking symbol in the floor, which is bamboo. Note, the brick wall planter and corner fireplace.
There's also a brick wall here, so you can be in your cozy tropical paradise even thru a Colorado winter. There are also lots of skylights for natural sunlight.
Then, to get the hot tub, you go thru the opening in the stone walls.
And, look at the natural stone path to the hot tub. This is seriously a tropical vacation right at home. I wonder if the plants convey.
A very large kitchen is part of the open concept design.
The brick wall and a fireplace extend to the kitchen. I like all those hanging lights and the black counters.
There's also a very large indoor pool with a sitting area on one end that opens to the patio.
The primary bedroom is above the pool in a large loft that features a swim-way in the floor for fish to go back and forth. It appears that the glass is in 3 sections so that it can be cleaned. There's also a yin & yang symbol in the floor.
The room is surrounded by bamboo, rock walls and stairs, with a glass wall so you can see the pond where the fish come back from the tunnels in the floor. Also note the blue ball lights above.
The en-suite bath carries out the theme with beautiful blue galss sinks and a large stone and tile shower plus river pebbles on the walls.
There's quite a large home gym.
And, check out this interesting bath.
The other home on the property is nice, but it's not as elaborate. I imagine that it would be a rental.
The main house has a brick patio with a fire pit and there's also a rooftop deck.

The Vacation from Hell - Chapter Two
Chapter two is now uploaded to AO3! It is also below the cut, in case anyone prefers to read on tumblr.
This chapter is VERY loosely based on the response sketch from @damntheyare's original 'human hotel' fanart. Because some tropes will never die (nor do we want them to).
Despite the numerous changes since Alastor was alive, he could more or less navigate thanks to a few familiar landmarks, like the old Hermann-Grima place. Back in his day, it had been a boarding house for single women. He slowed as they passed its faded blue shutters and gated front door.
“What is it?” asked Charlie. “You know this place?”
He shook his head. “Not exactly. I know about it. This house has quite a history, spanning back to before I was even alive! The families who owned it are well known around here.”
“Speaking of, where is here? I didn’t ask since you seem to know the way.”
“New Orleans.” Alastor paused. “Home, I suppose.”
Charlie’s eyes widened. “This is where you lived when you were human?”
“Born and raised!”
“And the hotel we’re staying?”
He didn’t answer. He could only hope it still existed.
Their suitcase wheels clacked on the brick sidewalk as they strode down Saint Louis Street and turned right. Many of the businesses were from after his time. He didn’t care for their newer architecture: some flashes of style here and there, but mostly it simply existed. Functional without any flavor.
They crossed over two more streets before reaching their destination.
Alastor allowed himself to drink in the sight. The name Hotel Monteleone was embellished in bold cursive on all three sides of the sign above the main portico. Festoons and cartouches, worn with age, adorned the hotel’s facade. Flower-filled planters lined a set of windows, and sky-blue flags waved on poles attached to metal guards.
Charlie’s jaw dropped, and her bag nearly so. “This is . . . wow.” She laughed. “Good choice, Al!”
“Thank you, my dear!” he said, and found his mood marginally improved.
A solitary footman stood before a pair of golden doors. His attire was more suited to the weather—a short sleeve button down—but the black hat couldn’t have been comfortable. As they approached, he swung the door closest to him open.
Cold air wafted out from the lobby.
“Maybe we should have someone greet our guests at the entrance, too!” she whispered, nodding her head in thanks as they entered. “Nothing says hospitable more than a friendly face greeting you when you arrive!”
“Oh? And who would you suggest for our doorman?”
“Angel Dust?”
“Not the worst suggestion.” He thought she might suggest Vaggie, but Charlie seemed to realize her dour expression would deter sinners seeking redemption. “Though I can’t say the types of guests he’d attract are what you’re hoping for!”
“That’s the point, Alastor! Everyone is welcome,” she insisted. “The problem is whether Angel would agree to it. He already works for Valentino. But maybe this will be a step in the right direction!”
The lobby was even more impressive than the hotel’s front. Their suitcases glided over parquet marble floors. Framed paintings of the founder, along with other men Alastor couldn’t place, decorated the walls. Above them, gold inlayed panels adorned the bases of crystal chandeliers. The lighting filled the entrance with a soft glow, making the place feel otherworldly.
To their left, a rose centerpiece stood in the middle, bench-like seating surrounding the arrangement. A set of stairs, most likely heading to the establishment's rooms, lay before it. Another smaller set of steps led to the entrance of a restaurant. Alastor filed that away for later. Once they were settled in, food would no doubt be a priority. They passed more seating in the form of sofas and upholstered armchairs, along with a grandfather clock ticking away the seconds.
Charlie lingered behind as he approached the counter.
The receptionist was a completely average woman. Not too tall or short, heavy or thin. Completely unremarkable. Her only standout feature was the short reddish locks framing her face. Her smile screamed ‘customer service,’ but she didn’t appear to be in a mood either.
“Can I help you?”
Alastor read the tag pinned to her blazer. “Why, yes, I believe you can, Marie!” he said with a flourish. “My companion and I are needing a room for the duration of our stay.”
“Of course, sir.” Marie began typing and glanced between him and a screen that suspiciously resembled Vox’s head. “Do you already have a reservation?”
Fuck.
Yes, he did. Decades ago, when they were supposed to arrive. Alastor was left with quite the conundrum. Did he take a chance on the hotel having an open room? Or did he use his magic to . . . turn the odds in their favor? The latter was the obvious choice, but he had expended more energy than planned to transport the group and their belongings.
Alastor lightly tapped the top of the machine and infused it with his magic. A green glow came forth from the monitor along with thread-like tendrils. They reached out toward the receptionist and infused her pupils with the same green glow.
“Yes, indeed!” he gritted out. “It should be for Alastor Malveaux and Charlotte Magne.”
Marie blinked; her eyes returned to normal. “Thank you, sir. One moment while I pull up that information.”
“Was that your last name?” whispered Charlie, joining him at his side.
Alastor shrugged. “Who knows?” he replied, his voice low. “Whatever it was, it’s lost to the wind. The Radio Demon is what I’m known as now, and I have no complaints.”
“Okay, but what about my name? Charlotte Magne. Really? What’s wrong with Charlie Morningstar?”
“Your last name might . . . raise a few eyebrows,” he said, smirking, “and Charlie Magne is too obvious.”
“How so?”
Marie interrupted before he could explain. “Okay, so I’ve found your reservation.” Her face twitched. “But I’m afraid the room you requested was double booked. Another couple has already checked in.”
“I see.” Charlie turned to him. “I guess we’ll have to cut our trip short?”
"No, no, Miss Magne!” said Marie. “This was entirely our fault! We do have another room available, though. Fortunately for you, it’s an upgrade!” She started furiously typing away. “How long did you and Mister Malveaux plan on staying again?”
Alastor struggled to keep his grin. “Six days.”
“And what time were you planning on returning home? Check out is before noon.”
So many questions. “We can be out before then.”
“Perfect! So, that will be five nights total—”
“What a relief!” Charlie scooped Husk off her shoulder and held him in her arms. He had somehow managed to remain affixed the entire trip to the hotel.
Alastor wholeheartedly agreed. “We’ll have to decide who gets which bed once we are in the room.”
“Oh, you wanted two beds?” asked Marie, the clacking on her keyboard slowing.
He blinked. “I beg your pardon?”
“I’m sorry if I wasn’t clearer.” She held up her index finger. “The room only has one. If it’s any consolation, it’s a King.”
He would not murder the woman for doing her job, even if she was getting on the very last of his nerves. Alastor forced the violent urge down and laughed. “It would be quite improper for an unmarried man and woman to share—”
“We’ll make do,” Charlie answered, much to his shock. She looked up at him. “Is that okay?”
“As you said,” he stated with a deep breath, “we’ll make do.”
“All right! That’s five nights total with two pets,” Marie said, eyeing Niffty and Husk in their arms. “They receive their own little welcome package for free. Trust me, everyone loves it! And did you want any add-ons or upgrades for your stay? We offer overnight valet parking, along with a wide selection of wines and hard liquors—”
“That won’t be necessary.”
“Maybe some macrons for you and Miss Magne—”
Charlie watched their exchange with rapt attention. No doubt she was mentally taking notes on what could be added to their hotel. That was the purpose of this visit. And while he appreciated her passion in theory—the more invested, the more satisfying it would be to see her dreams torn to shreds—the only one suffering at the moment was him.
“Just the total,” Alastor ground out. “Please.”
“That’ll be $2,204.60.”
Alastor turned to Charlie and handed her Niffty, who let out a small ‘Yip!’ of dismay. Charlie gasped. She barely managed to catch the other demon—now dog—and juggle both her and Husk in her arms.
Alastor unzipped the bag sitting on top of Niffty’s luggage and made a show of rummaging around. As he suspected, Husk had packed nothing but alcohol. He was grateful for once. A bottle of whiskey was calling his name. Hopefully the staff didn’t check the contents before they settled in. With his last bit of magic—at least until he could get some food and rest and alcohol—he conjured a stack of bills and zipped the sack closed.
He pulled out the cash and began counting.
Marie’s almond eyes widened. “Wow, don’t see that too often!” She stared at him grimly. “You’ll want to be careful. You’ll be a target for sure.”
Alastor chuckled as he placed the last bill down. The remainder was shoved into his pocket. “I’m not worried.” He took Niffty from Charlie, much to her relief, and held the small dog under his other arm.
Marie picked up the bills and double checked the amount. “Suit yourself. We don’t keep change here, but—”
“Don’t worry about the extra. Consider it a tip for your hard work! Otherwise, we’d be looking for another hotel or returning home.”
“Thank you, Mister Malveaux!” This time her smile was genuine. “If you don’t mind me asking, where is home for you anyway?”
“I'm technically from around these parts, but it's been years since I’ve been back. Things have changed quite a bit.”
Marie nodded. “You’ll find yourself at home in no time. Change doesn’t happen that fast here.” She turned to Charlie. “What about you?”
“Well . . . ,” said Charlie nervously, “where I’m from is pretty big. And dry. And hot! Not to mention very . . . intense! It’s nothing like here.”
Marie raised a brow. “Huh?”
“California!” said Alastor, and he felt Charlie relax.
“It’s where we met,” Charlie added, smiling at him.
“Oh, so you must be an actor,” said Marie to Alastor. “You sure are dedicated to the craft, not breaking character! It explains the accent. The glasses and cash too. Those Hollywood eccentrics sure have rubbed off on you.”
Alastor quirked his head. “Pardon?”
“I’ve never seen you in anything before, but I'm not much for historical pieces.” She reached for the safety deposit box below the counter and locked the cash away. “But I’m trying to branch out. I’ll watch for you.”
He and Charlie shared a look. A smirk graced her lips.
“Not a word, Miss Magne,” he said under his breath.
“Wouldn’t dream of it, Mister Malveaux.”
“Your room will be ready in a few minutes. Our bellhop will take your luggage for you.” A stout man with curly black hair approached. He wore the same outfit as the doorman, though his dark pants still held the crisp line from when they were pressed earlier that day. “Olivier, could you take their things to room 606?”
He tipped his hat in her direction, then piled their bags onto the luggage cart. “I’m on it!”
Alastor eyed the sofas in the lounge, but before he could move, he heard the shuffling of papers from behind the counter.
“So,” said Marie, “what do you two plan on doing while you’re here?”
No.
Charlie bit her lip. “I’m not sure honestly. I was only interested in the hotel,” she admitted. “Alastor did all the planning.”
Absolutely not.
“I see.” Marie nodded. “Any sites you wanted to visit with Miss Magne?”
He was not having any small talk.
“I hadn’t given it much thought,” he said, his tone clipped.
Marie’s expression brightened. “In that case, would you mind if I made some suggestions?”
“Not at all!” exclaimed Charlie.
“The Phantom of the Opera is in town,” Marie said, handing over several brochures. “Not sure if you’ve seen it yet. Broadway is probably better, but it hasn’t been to New Orleans in about a decade, so we’re all excited.”
Charlie turned to Alastor and placed Husk on his shoulder before he could say a word. She took the pamphlets from the receptionist and flipped through one.
“Is this any good?”
Marie leaned over to see what Charlie was showing her. “The Voodoo, Witchcraft and Vampires tour? If you’re into supernatural stuff, sure. There's no shortage of that around here, even at this very hotel.”
"How so?” Charlie asked.
“There’ve been countless unexplained happenings over the years. Doors that open on their own, elevators that go to the wrong floor, even shadows of kids playing in the halls! Eyewitness accounts from different times, guests, and staff. Hard to write it off as coincidence!”
What drivel. Charlie seemed to think so too, judging by her incredulous expression. If anyone knew what happened to a soul after they passed, it would be the Princess of Hell. They were either in her domain or they weren’t. It was as simple as that.
“What about this, Alastor? They have jazz bands and even a jazz museum!”
“I wouldn’t mind hearing a live session again,” he said. “It’s been ages! But I also wouldn’t mind some place . . . quieter.”
“Then you have to go to Oak Valley Plantation,” said Marie. “It’s about an hour away from here, but if you want to get away from it all, that’s your best bet! It’s like stepping back in time.”
Alastor considered her briefly. “Maybe before we leave, to wind down.”
“Excellent! I can help get you tickets for any or all of those excursions. Give me another ten or fifteen minutes to calculate—”
“We’ll do them all.” He glanced at Charlie, who couldn’t have looked more thrilled than if every sinner in Hell had been redeemed in one fell swoop. Alastor pulled all but a couple of bills from his pocket and placed them in her hand. “I trust you with the schedule, my dear.”
Charlie grasped the cash tightly. “Thank you, Al! I won’t let you down.”
“Yes, yes.” He sighed. “I’m taking a breather until our room is ready.”
“Olivier should be nearly finished if you would like to head up, Mister Malveaux. Here’s your key,” Marie said, handing him a piece of plastic. “I’ll give Miss Magne the other so she can join you when we’re done.”
Alastor held the rectangular thing awkwardly between his fingers. What odd material to use for a key.
The elevator was several paces behind them on the other side of the stairs. Leaving the two women to hash out their plans—a decision he hoped he would not come to regret—he stepped into an empty lift and pushed the backlit button with the number 6.
Husk pawed at his head, nearly knocking his glasses off.
Alastor turned, his glare ice cold. “You’re trying your luck, Husker! I’m not in the mood to be messed with. Unless you care to find out if cats really do have nine lives, I would suggest you mind yourself for the rest of the trip.”
Silence filled the compartment for the ride up to the sixth floor. The elevator’s ding! notified them of their arrival, and the doors slid open. A gold cart was parked in the hall several doors down. He could see the last of their luggage—pink, in all its shameless glory—being picked up and transported inside.
“Thank you for your hard work, my good sir!” said Alastor, steadfast in keeping the last of his remaining patience in check. He handed the man a crisp . . . twenty? Fifty? He didn’t look. “Much appreciated!”
Olivier’s eyes widened. Had he slipped him a hundred by mistake? “You’re too kind, sir! Thank you. Let me know if you need anything!” He pushed the cart back toward the lifts.
The room’s door remained open long enough to slip in. Alastor allowed it to close behind them as he placed Niffty on the ground beside him. Husk jumped from his shoulder and landed on the carpeted floor. They surveyed their accommodations.
White. It was very white. Alastor crossed over to the king-size bed and upholstered headboard, a wallpapered inset behind it. They were white. So was the bedding. As was the much smaller, more rustic chandelier hanging up above. The nightstands, the single-seated sofa, and the vanity and set of chairs at the foot of the bed.
The carpeting. The floors. The ceiling.
Everything was white. Even the bathroom gave him no reprieve.
Was this what Heaven was like?
Alastor felt like he was going mad. The only hints of color came from the trio and the baggage they had dragged along for the trip. Charlie’s and Niffty’s luggage were a sight for sore eyes against the colorless landscape that was their room.
Husk’s was too, but for very different reasons. Alastor picked up the leather bag, placed it on the vanity, and pulled out a seat. A small glass was set upside down beneath a mirror. He grabbed it and quickly zipped the bag open. The bottle of whiskey he eyed earlier clinked against a bottle of gin, and without hesitation, he twisted the cap off with his thumb and poured out a healthy amount.
Husk jumped up and hissed.
Alastor tipped his glass and downed the drink. “Even when you can’t pour, you make an excellent bartender, Husker old pal!”
An almost imperceptible beep alerted him to Charlie’s arrival. “That receptionist really knows her stuff!” She dropped a handful of brochures on the vanity, along with a much thinner stack of cash, and pulled out the seat next to him. “So, I know we’re here for research—”
“You are,” said Alastor, pouring himself another glass. “I am but the chauffer.” He picked up the money, returning it to his pocket. “And sponsor, clearly.”
Charlie hesitated. “Are you okay, Al? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drink before.”
“Well, we are on vacation, aren’t we?” This time he didn’t down the liquor in one gulp. He allowed it to linger on his tongue before swallowing, relishing the slight burn. “You were saying?”
“R-Right. I still plan on getting the full hotel experience while we’re here. Even checking in has given me so many ideas! I’ll need to take notes, so I don’t forget anything.” She took out a notepad and pen from her purse. “Everything is so luxurious, don’t you think?”
If someone enjoyed the ‘padded room’ aesthetic, then certainly.
“But I figured, we might as well take in the sights too! I can only imagine how much has changed since . . . .”
Alastor allowed the silence to hang between them.
Charlie looked around awkwardly. “I’m sorry about the bed. We can ask for more pillows to create a wall between us. If that helps.”
“You needn’t worry about me.” Alastor took another long sip before grabbing a different bottle from Husk’s bag. He read the label and realized he didn’t care what he was drinking, so long as it was strong. “I will make do.”
“I don’t want you sleeping on the floor, Al. Or in the chairs. You should be comfortable!”
“We’ll burn that bridge when we get there,” he said, fumbling over the words. His accent slipped as well. “In the meantime, you should do what you set out to do! There’s a whole hotel waiting to be explored.”
Charlie stood and tipped her luggage onto the floor. “What about you? You’re not going to spend the whole day drinking, are you?”
Alastor made one last drink and toasted to her. “Well, you could say I have some research of my own. But until then”—he tipped the glass back and grimaced—“I’m starting this trip off with a bang!”

What do you think Tim’s complaining about?
(ID: An illustration, Tim sits on a a small set of stairs, his skateboard is lifted from the pressure of his foot on one side of it, his hands are raised and he has a frustration expression as he talks. To his right Bart sits on a wall of a planter that has bushes and is besides the stairs, his elbows resting on his knees and head sitting him his hands as he looks shocked, he has rollerblades on, one leg is slightly crossed behind the other. Conner sits on the wall of a different planter to Tim’s left, leisurely leaning back against a ledge, some bushes and a tree can be seen in the planter. A soda in hand and straw in mouth, he doesn’t look thrilled about what Tim is telling them. A few leaves litter the foreground, a road and brick wall can be seen in the background. -ID End)

Kiara interlaced her fingers with Taehyung's, loving how his hand swallowed hers. She leaned into him as they walked along the bricks placed in an intricate design that led to their neighbor's front door. Ever since their revelation the other night, she felt closer to him. That hazy vision of a ring on her finger was getting more apparent by the day. Even so, she still couldn't fathom willingly being in the same space as Jimin.
"Remember to try," Taehyung mumbled to her as he knocked on the front door. She sighed deeply, and he gave her hand a gentle, encouraging squeeze. In seconds, the door swung open. A grinning Hoseok greeted them, his smile also spreading to their faces.
The last time tonight Kiara would genuinely smile.
"I'm so glad you guys made it!" He beamed as he pulled them both into a hug, one arm wrapping each body.
The couple chuckled softly. "As if we'd miss it," Taehyung said as he led them inside. Hoseok took their coats, placing them in a nearby closet.
The Jung's home always felt so warm and cozy. They had a shabby chic vibe going; white furniture to compliment the light brown wooden floors and beige colored walls. There were pops of colors here and there, like the bright yellow throw they had hanging off the couch that matched the yellow-themed paintings they hung over the TV. There were little potted planters meticulously placed on various shelves and surfaces. It felt like a home, their home.
Kiara instantly spotted Momo as she returned from a hallway with an armful of blankets and pillows. She tied half of her midnight hair in a cute ponytail while the rest gently brushed her shoulders as she walked. As soon as Momo looked at Kiara, the broad smile on her blush-stained lips faded, and concern flooded her innocent features. She approached the girl, spotting Kiara's fake smile from a mile away.
"What's wrong?" She whispered, eyes peering around for Hoseok.
"I don't wanna be here," Kiara whispered, her lips frozen in a smile. She was trying, honestly dreading the moment when Blondie made his appearance. But she wasn't going to lie to her friend.
"Why?" Momo's brows furrowed as her eyes finally caught Hoseok's. He was smiling, entertaining his guests, but his glances were worrisome. He raised a thumbs up, and Momo nodded, not wanting to worry her significant other.
"Yo! Hoseok, can you—" Out from the kitchen walked the man of the hour, and his eyes automatically latched to Kiara's. Her smile dropped so quickly that her body couldn't keep up the facade. While she glared at him, Jimin shared a smile that seemed genuine. It caught Kiara off guard, her glare wavering as he looked at Hoseok.
"That's why." As she mumbled to Momo, it felt like she had to convince herself they were on bad terms for a second. Her brows furrowed as she bit down on her lower lip momentarily.
"Can you guys help me bring out the snacks? I may have brought too much," Jimin chuckled, making Kiara's lips twitch. The men agreed in unison before following Jimin like ducklings.
As soon as the coast was clear, Momo grabbed Kiara's wrist and pulled her towards the couch. She tossed all the pillows and blankets before sitting the girl down on the ground. "Spill." She looked at the other, protection flickering like a freshly started fire in her eyes.
Kiara loved Momo dearly, but she sure was terrifying when she entered mother mode. "Do you remember the guy I told you about? The one from the coffee shop?" Kiara asked, the moment still vivid in her memory. She hated how his stupid face made a home in her mind. Like that one annoying cousin who invades your couch for a little too long, there Jimin was with that stupid perfect smile.
Momo nodded, remembering Kiara's colorful rant in the group chat, followed by several well-placed memes. She pulled out the game Cards Against Humanity from under the coffee table and started to set it up neatly.
"That was him."
Momo gasped loudly, "What?!" Kiara quickly silenced the girl. Their kitchen was close enough to be heard easily. "No way," Momo whispered, "he's such a nice guy! I've seen him tell off assholes politely."
"Maybe he saves all his rage for unexpected victims, like people he spills coffee on," she grumbled as she played with the zipper on her jacket. She swallowed suddenly, eyes fixed on her fingers. "He's mad I rejected him and won't get over it. And he's fucking everywhere. The gallery, the grocery store, even here!"
"Well, I'm kinda to blame for the last two places," Momo sheepishly admitted as she fiddled with one of the blankets. Kiara stared at the girl, waiting for her to continue. "He's my boss."
Momo's eyes met the others, staring at each other in silence.
"You're lying," Kiara suddenly said. There's no way he's been intertwined in her friend group this whole time. Momo shook her head, prompting a loud groan to rip from Kiara's throat.
The fucking odds.
The men returned from the kitchen, arms filled with various snacks and drinks. Hoseok and another man carefully put everything on the table while Taehyung walked around to sit on the other side of Kiara.
"What's wrong?" He whispered to the girl. She shook her head, not wanting to get into it. From all he knew, they got off on the wrong foot with the clientele dinner. He didn't see it as a substantial reason to have so much grief with the person, but he knew how Kiara was and remembered how Jimin was—two very fickle people with just as inconsistent personalities.
They'll get along eventually, he thought; the more I bring him around, the more they'll get used to each other.
Jimin lowered himself to the ground directly in front of Kiara. She glared at him with those lovely eyes full of flames. If she were Starfire, she would have obliterated him long ago. And yet, for some odd reason, it made the corner of his lips tug ever so slightly into a smile.
"It's nice seeing you here, Kiara." His smooth voice had the slightest hint of satisfaction. Was he excited for the night full of torture? She hated how he said her name, how his lips formed to pronounce the noun. She wanted to rid it from his vocabulary.
Kiara pressed her lips together, earning an elbow in the side from Taehyung. "Likewise," she forced a grin before leaning over to Momo. "Can I have some wine?" She whispered, feeling as if this night would go so much longer if she were sober. Game nights with just the four of them are usually fun and a highlight after a stressful week. But with this blonde around, he would permanently be a thunderstorm on her parade. Momo nodded, prompting her to spring out of her seat. She made a beeline to her kitchen, quickly finding her wine cooler. She poured herself a glass of red wine with hopes of babysitting the glass all night so that she wouldn't get too drunk.
Hoseok was keen on picking up the energy of a room, and he was surprised to find out there was tension between Kiara and Jimin. If anything, he was prepared for awkwardness as he would've had to introduce the two. He picked up the way Jimin looked at her, wondering if Taehyung also did. It wasn't his place, so he never addressed it. As Kiara returned to her seat, swirling the liquid crimson in her glass, Hoseok grinned at her.
"Ki, this is Namjoon, by the way."
Kiara's eyes met Namjoon's, offering him a heartfelt smile as she greeted him. She watched the large man sitting next to Jimin grow shy, looking down at the cards in his hands. She smiled fondly. Namjoon reminded her of Jeongguk for a second, specifically how these men twice her size could grow shy from a simple smile. It was adorable.
After introductions, the games began. Since Jimin had a cordial act going, she decided trying couldn't hurt. It couldn't be that hard anyway. Some fake laughs here and there, maybe soften her eyes whenever she looked at him. It would be easier if he didn't always have such a smug look on her face. It's like he couldn't hide that he knew her secret.
As they played, Kiara sipped on her wine, laughing outrageously at the inappropriate and culturally insensitive answers they conjured up. Jimin, surprisingly, won a few cards from her, and she won a few from him. She never thought he was the dirty type—his head seemed way too far up his ass. It was a shame that he turned out to be an asshole. Their conversations and jokes seemed to flow together once the tension had subsided. They would've been great friends.
After three rounds, everyone slowly stopped playing and started to chat. Taehyung wrapped his arm around Kiara's shoulders as she leaned into him. The wine had settled into her system nicely, calming her and making her on the reserved side. Sometimes, she enjoyed taking a step back and watching everyone interact. She liked being in the moment, seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter. It warmed her and made her feel happy. She was one of the lucky few to find her people. She took her last sip and got up slowly to replace her glass. She didn't necessarily think she needed it, but she'd rather be safe than sorry. She felt relaxed and maybe a little heavy, humming to herself as she walked into the kitchen.
Feeling that some cheese would pair exceptionally well with her drink, she opened the fridge and stuck her head in.
"So you know Hoseok and Momo, too, huh?" The smooth voice startled her, causing her to jump. She hit her head on the fridge shelf.
"Ow," she mumbled as she pulled her head out of the fridge. She looked over, seeing none other than the blonde. Her eyes instantly narrowed as she rubbed her head. "Yeah. I do."
He chuckled softly, white teeth beaming through his pink, plump lips. "Interesting. So they know about your double life, or am I gonna have to tell them?"
"First of all, you're under contract. If you say anything to anyone, I will sue." Her glare hardened at the man, pointing her finger at him as she spoke. Of course, why wouldn't their first conversation of the night be filled with threats? Appearance couldn't last that long, unfortunately.
"Oooh, I'm so scared. Look at me! I'm shaking him my boots." A smirk played on his lips as sarcasm filled his tone, wrapping around his words gracefully. Like Kiara, he was fluent in the petty language. He filled the gap between them, taking deliberate steps as his arms folded over his chest. "I understand hiding your identity from fans and the public, but your close friends? Tsk." He shook his head, stopping a few feet from her. "Does your boyfriend even know?"
The alcohol in her system was nowhere near enough to deal with this. She felt anger bubbling up in her chest as she reached for the bottle from earlier. "Of course, he knows!" She rolled her eyes as she filled her glass once again. "You think I just bring him there for funsies?"
Jimin wondered if she could hear the slight slur in her words, watching as she filled her glass way past the appropriate amount. He said nothing, figuring he wouldn't have to do her the favor if she was drunk enough. "I don't know what you and your boyfriend do." He leaned against the counter. She could see how his arms subtly flexed underneath his white long-sleeve shirt. She tried to ignore it, focusing on resealing the wine bottle. "Honestly, he barely talks about you when we hang out."
Kiara's hands froze, her heart suddenly taking a cliff dive in her chest. His words were the loud beep that started the race of her thoughts. He doesn't talk about me to Jimin? She always thought men in love gushed about their partners. Regardless, she couldn't let Jimin see that his words created a whirlpool in her mind. She kept a blank face, finally closing the bottle. "Well, he has other things in his life, obviously."
Jimin shrugged his shoulders casually. "If that's what you want to believe."
"Why does it matter to you?" Her facade cracked instantaneously, snapping at the blonde while staring at his profile. She was growing to hate everything about him—from his stupid hair that looked great whether he styled it or not to his stupid lips that were too plump and frozen in a permanent pout. They looked soft, like being kissed by a cloud. She wondered if her hypothesis stood true.
Stop.
She looked away, taking a large swig from her glass and drowning those other thoughts in the process.
"It doesn't, I'm just saying."
"You didn't need to say shit, though, and that seems to be your fucking problem." With her mask shattering under the alcohol, there was no point in holding back now. She looked at him again, his glare meeting hers. "You're always saying shit you should probably keep to yourself."
Jimin turned to face her fully. "I say what no one else has the guts to!"
"If that's what you wanna believe." She quickly mocked him, putting on a voice way higher than his own to watch his face twitch angrily.
He walked over to a cabinet, grabbing a bag of chips from inside. "You know, for a coward, you have quite a mouth on you."
There goes that word again. And just like before, Kiara had half a mind to drench his white shirt with red. It would be pretty, like something she's painted. Instead, she took another drink from her glass, ignoring how the bittersweet liquid warmed her chest as it went down. "Shhh," she voiced while putting a finger to her lips, "you wouldn't want your little friends catching a glimpse of the real you, Park."
"Why the fuck is Taehyung even with you?" The bowl he grabbed from the cabinet hit the counter with a loud thud. He turned around to face the dark-haired woman, and his brown eyes narrowed to slits as his voice lowered to a harsh whisper. "You're such a little shit."
"You came in here starting shit with me." Kiara nonchalantly shrugged as she leaned against the counter. She ignored how his words slashed into her self-esteem. She didn't want to think about the possibility of the jackass knowing something about her relationship that she didn't. He already knew too much.
"All I wanted to know was if your so-called best friends out there knew that you were a Hannah Montana wanna-be. I would hate to have something slip out."
"Oh, bullshit," she scoffed. "I don't know if you get off on holding secrets over people's heads or threatening blackmail," she suddenly began to walk towards him. Kiara crossed the width of the kitchen, closing the distance between them. Jimin stood his ground, arms folded over his chest as he ignored how seductive she looked approaching him. With a wine glass in one hand, her eyes lowered at him, hips swaying effortlessly in her baggy sweatpants. She looked like a fucking sin. "but it's a really gross look on you. Get a hobby."
He raised an eyebrow slightly, "How do you know my hobby isn't annoying you?"
She looked up and down at him, placing a hand on her hip as she tilted her head to the side. "Aww," she cooed, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips, "you really did mean it when you said you were a big fan."
Jimin's eyes went wide, feeling heat rushing to his face. Was he blushing from embarrassment, or because of how those eyes of amber looked up at him? He wanted to move his lips and say something just as snippy to keep hearing her voice, but he was too distracted. Kiara was close, dangerously close. Close enough that he could smell the bitter wine in her glass. Close enough that Jimin could easily catch a whiff of that addictive scent of hers. It was so sweet and subtle; it made him think things he shouldn't be thinking. She was his friend's girlfriend. But as she sipped her wine, the intoxicating liquid moistened her lips and made him curious for a taste.
He never felt such conflicting feelings when looking at someone. Being in the public eye meant Jimin had to know what someone's intentions were. He had to be good at reading people before they even said a word to him for his protection. So, people around him fell into one of three boxes—friends, lovers, or enemies. He was rarely wrong due to mastering his craft for the past ten years. That was until he met Kiara. All the years of practice and knowledge were flushed down the drain within a week of knowing this woman. She was dangerous, and she knew it. She locked him into her gravitational pull, and no matter how hard he would try to resist, something in him just needed to be around her. He couldn't be the only one feeling this; she had to know, too. That's why she was doing all of this—teasing him without teasing him and looking at him like she wanted the same thing he was thinking. The universe threw her into his path for a reason, and he had to find out why.
She walked away from him, leaving that same sweet scent trail that tempted him to follow before. She felt proud that she managed to make the man who couldn't seem to keep his mouth shut silent, even if it was for a few moments. She lowered herself back into her place next to Taehyung while Jimin sat across from her. He looked at them, watching as she cuddled into the dark-haired man with glaring eyes. Taehyung's brows furrowed as his eyes danced between the two.
"So, has anyone seen Luna's newest collection?" Jimin's voice cut through the chit-chatter, demanding everyone's attention. His eyes remained glued to Kiara's, watching her golden skin drain of its color. She may have caught his tongue in the kitchen, but now the game was on. "It's a true beauty."
Kiara took a sip of her drink nonchalantly, despite her heart pounding so viciously that her hand gently trembled. She heard a small whimper, feeling something tugging at the material of her sweatpants. She didn't have to look, knowing the familiar child named Nerves had arrived.
"Luna?" Hoseok questioned.
"I think I heard a little about her," Namjoon added as he looked at Jimin. "She's kinda like Banksy, right?"
"Yeah," Taehyung said as he subtly reached for Kiara's free hand, "but better, in my opinion." He gave her a light squeeze as he grinned, causing Kiara's heart to warm. Nerves started to loosen their grip, beginning to return to where they came from.
"I've been following them since debut," Jimin said casually, "but not once have they shown their face. They're completely anonymous." He glanced around, meeting everyone's eyes at least once before locking in on Kiara's. He leaned in, lowering his voice to a whisper, "They could be anyone, even one of us." He looked away to take a sip of his drink.
Kiara tried to exhale softly, Co2 leaving her system shakily as the anxiety rose again. She could feel Nerves wrapping their arms around her leg, crawling up her appendage until they took a swan dive into her abdomen. They bounced around, threatening to empty the contents of her stomach.
"Oooh, I love that!" Momo mused, clapping her hands in excitement. "A complete mystery artist. Do they hold art shows?"
Jimin nodded. "I just went to one a month ago. They're called A Luna Eclipse. That's where I ran into Kiara and Taehyung."
"A Luna Eclipse is such a sick play on words," Hoseok said while Namjoon ferociously typed away on his phone.
"Fuck, their art is so good," Namjoon commented as he scrolled through some pictures. "I have to get them in my gallery." Kiara raised an eyebrow slightly, making a mental note. She may send him a few pieces to test the waters. Just as she was going to open her mouth to ask more about him, someone promptly cut her off.
"What kind of art do they do?" Momo asked as she leaned over to peek at Namjoon's phone.
"Abstract paintings," Taehyung answered, "they use different mediums to create whatever they're feeling."
"Wow, these look right up your alley, Ki!" Momo practically ripped the phone from Namjoon and shoved it in Kiara's face. The girl laughed at the phone being too close to see anything correctly. "Do you have anything from them?"
Kiara shook her head, pushing the phone away from her face. "I can't afford to buy much when you're saving for a house."
"Then Taehyung should buy you a piece," Jimin added with a smirk just barely forming on his lips. "I could tell how much you adored them from the art show."
Taehyung let out an awkward chuckle while Kiara's gaze hardened at him. The game he was playing wasn't funny in the slightest. Did he get off making her so uncomfortable and on edge that it was killing her buzz? What was he trying to accomplish here?
"That would be such a nice birthday present!" Momo grinned while looking at Taehyung. "You have a few months to save up!"
Part of Kiara felt bad; Momo was such a pure soul, and lying to her for this long was almost physically hurt. It was something she had to do, though. There was no point in being anonymous if everyone knew.
And now Jimin had a spot on that short list.
"Yeah, I'll definitely consider it," Taehyung smiled softly.
"So, how is work going for you guys?" Kiara asked as she took advantage of the silence before Jimin could. She needed to switch the topic off of her for a while.
"I finally found a space to rent out for my gallery!" Namjoon suddenly beamed, a broad smile appearing on his lips. "It took a while, but this place is absolutely perfect. I already have a few artists who really speak to me, so all I have to do is wait for construction."
Everyone congratulated him, causing the man's ears to turn red. Kiara smiled fondly at him, cursing Jimin in her mind. She wanted to give a few pieces to Namjoon without asking for any profit. Aimee would kill her if she knew of this, and she didn't care. Seeing how Namjoon spoke so passionately about his goals inspired her. He deserved a few limited-edition paintings. He deserved something that set him apart from the rest.
"Jimin and I just made up some new choreo for class, and Jimin went trending on TikTok again," Hoseok said as he elbowed Jimin playfully.
The man glared at him. "Stop saying our accomplishments as if they're just a me thing! It's an us thing!"
"It was your post!"
Kiara remembered seeing that post on that faithful night of scrolling through TikTok when she definitely should've been sleeping—face illuminated by her phone screen, volume lowered to just above a whisper to not wake the sleeping man beside her. By the time she stumbled upon the video, it had already accumulated over 100k likes, even though he posted it just a few hours before. The high-tempo song was sped up from the original, yet he hit every beat effortlessly. He was a talented dancer, and it irked her to the core. The way he moved was captivating, almost hypnotizing. His body moved like flowing water, hitting every beat effortlessly. Somehow, he was both hard and soft, smooth and ridged. It was hard to look away, watching the 15-second video until she memorized the dance. If the song played, she would be able to do it with ease.
The 15-second video tempted her to go to Jimin's page and scroll through. For research purposes, obviously. Not because the way he moved was attractive or anything. She wanted to see if it was a fluke, like he got lucky and posted at the exact moment when some popular teenage girl stumbled upon it and showed it to all her friends. But she knew that wasn't the case. For the next couple of days, TikTok would recommend her videos of people recreating the dance under the hashtag Collide dance.
Momo rolled her eyes before lazily looking at Kiara. "This is what I have to deal with at work."
"Oh, how fun," she responded with a sarcastic smile.
"You should apply! And be the deal breaker because Momo refuses!" Hoseok chimed in.
"I don't wanna get in between that!" Momo exclaimed.
Kiara let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "I keep telling y'all I don't dance professionally. You only see me on the dance floor when I already have a few drinks in my system."
"But you do dance?" Jimin asked, seemingly genuinely interested.
Kiara suddenly caught her breath in her throat. She didn't like when he looked at her like that—eyes drinking her in as they filled with curiosity. "I'm not applying for your job."
"That's fine; I wouldn't hire you anyway."
Hoseok let out a loud gasp while Taehyung attempted to hide his giggles. "Jimin!" Hoseok scolded.
"What?!" He looked at the silver-haired man with innocent eyes. "You know we have a strict hiring process!"
"You're always taking things so seriously. Both of you are." Momo said as she stood up, causing Kiara to shoot her a look. She started to clean up the various snacks and cups from the table. "You guys don't have a funny bone in your bodies?"
"Maybe she should take a one-on-one class with Jimin so they can both loosen up," Taehyung grinned while nudging Kiara.
Jimin and Kiara both laughed obnoxiously. Momo and Hoseok locked eyes briefly.
"That'll never happen," Kiara deadpanned.
"Why not?" Taehyung asked.
"She seems like she has two left feet like Namjoon, and I refuse to have that disaster of a class again," Jimin said as Kiara's jaw dropped.
"It wasn't that bad!" Namjoon said, suddenly sitting up from lying down.
"You managed to knock down four people with one move!" Jimin glared at the man, who now had a sheepish smile on his lips.
"It was quite impressive, though," Hoseok added as he gathered the cards.
"You're such an asshole," Kiara said as she shook her head.
Namjoon loudly scoffed as he laid back down on the ground. "You can say that again."
"Aw, darling, it's just a joke. I think your left feet are cute," Taehyung grinned before kissing the side of Kiara's head. She fought the smile that wanted to form on her lips, opting to burn a hole into Jimin's soul instead.
"It's not a joke," Jimin started as he leaned back onto his hands. He mirrored the same glare at Kiara, a smirk tugging at his lips, "It's an observation."
"Jimin!" Momo called from the kitchen.
"Yeah?!"
"Shut up!"
Everyone but Jimin shared a laugh as the man in question pouted his lips like a child. Kiara and Taehyung decided to call it a night soon after that. They bid everyone farewell, including a sneaky middle finger to Jimin from Kiara when Taehyung wasn't looking. The walk home was short and peaceful. It was a blessing to live close to your friends. Once they arrived home, they prepared quietly for bed, enjoying each other's presence.
"So what the deal with you and Jimin?" Taehyung asked as he put down his toothbrush, using a towel he grabbed to dry his face.
Kiara's eyes widened as she stared at him through their bathroom mirror. She stopped applying her skincare for a second. Her heart started to race at the sound of his name. "What do you mean?"
"You guys have this weird tension. Like, I know you guys dislike each other or whatever…, but…." He trailed off momentarily, chewing on his lower lip as he tried to figure out the right words. "That was a lot."
She let out an awkward chuckle. She didn't realize it was that obvious. She thought everyone would be so tied up in the game or conversations even to notice the growing hatred she and Jimin had for each other. "I told you he didn't like me."
"I know," he sighed as he leaned against the wall, watching as she finished her routine. "I've never seen him act that way towards someone, at least not openly. It's like you guys trigger each other."
"Cuz he doesn't know when to shut the fuck up."
Taehyung chuckled softly, following Kiara as she walked out of the bathroom. "What was that Luna thing about, too?"
Kiara sighed as she belly-flopped dramatically onto her side of the bed. "He's trying to ruin my life!" She yelled into the pillow before turning onto her side. "He hates my choice to stay unknown to the public, which includes some of our friends as well, and it just feels like I'm Spider-Man, and he's trying to unmask me around every corner. If I wanted to be fucking Tony Stark, I would be Tony fucking Stark!"
The man laughed at her analogy, realizing the wine she was drinking was catching up to her fast. He crawled into bed next to her. "He wouldn't do that to you, knowing it could end your career. He's too much of a fan of yours." Kiara let out a single cackle, cracking a smile on Taehyung's lips. "He's just teasing you in his own way. Watch, you two will be friends in no time."
"Yeah, aight. Maybe when I'm on my deathbed from the brain aneurysm he'll give me."
Taehyung shook his head, responding to a few messages on his phone before placing it on the nightstand. "You're so dramatic," he said lowly, reaching over to pull the woman into him. He snuggled in close, burying his nose in the crook of her neck before they drifted off to sleep.

How to Incorporate Brick Into Modern Australian Home Design
Brick brings style into any modern Australian home. Its timeless appeal blends effortlessly into contemporary designs while offering character and durability. From minimalist facades to rustic exteriors, there's a brick for every aesthetic. Fortunately, partnering with a trusted brick company can help you find the materials to bring your vision to life.
In this article, we'll share creative ways to incorporate brick into your home so it looks amazing and stands the test of time.
Versatility of Brick in Modern Home Design With its timeless appeal, bricks open up many fun and creative possibilities in modern home design. You can use them to add texture to interiors, create striking details on exteriors, or bring a unique touch to any space. In addition to that, bricks are also practical since they're durable, easy to maintain, and help keep your home energy-efficient.
Another great thing about bricks is how well it pairs with other materials. Combining it with elements like timber, glass, or steel can create stunning contrasts that enhance your home's overall aesthetic.
For example, a brick-feature wall can add warmth and texture to an open-plan living space, while sleek glass windows and steel frames create a contemporary edge. These combinations allow you to balance modern elegance with the natural charm of brick, creating a space that feels stylish and inviting.
Exterior Brick Features for Modern Australian Homes When designing a modern Australian home, bricks are a fantastic way to add style and practicality to your exterior. They’re versatile, durable, and perfect for creating a home that stands out. That said, partnering with trusted brick suppliers in Australia can help you find the right options to make your idea a reality.
One creative way to elevate your home’s exterior is to experiment with different brick types, such as clay bricks, glass bricks, or commons. Each type has unique character and functionality, allowing you to customise outdoor walls, pathways, or entryways to suit your style.
Bricks can also be a game-changer for landscaping. Brick elements like garden walls, raised planters, and built-in outdoor seating adds character and versatility to your outdoor spaces. They seamlessly tie the design together while enhancing your home exterior's functionality and charm.
Interior Brick Elements Incorporating brick walls into your home's interior adds texture, warmth and charm to your living spaces. In fact, it’s a versatile material that can enhance your room's style, whether you're aiming for bold, eye-catching features or subtle, understated accents.
For instance, exposed brick walls help you achieve an industrial-chic look in living rooms, kitchens, or bedrooms. They create a stylish, cozy vibe while adding character to the space. Another popular feature is a brick fireplace, which can become a stunning focal point in a living room or entertainment area.
For a softer touch, brick accents like backsplashes or partial feature walls can add a decorative element without dominating the space. In open-concept layouts, brick can define areas while blending smoothly into the design so your home feels cosy and welcoming.
That said, working with a reputable brick company will give you access to various high-quality options to find the right materials to achieve your desired look.
Colour and Texture Options for Brick in Modern Designs Designing a modern home aesthetic begins with careful choices, including selecting the right brick colours and textures for your build. It's a good thing reliable brick suppliers offer a range of materials that cater to various tastes and styles, making it easy to customise your space.

Transform Your Outdoor Space with a Raised Patio in the UK
Introduction
A raised patio can be one of the best ways to improve your outdoor space, creating a practical and beautiful area for relaxation, entertainment, and family gatherings. In the UK, living outdoors is crucially active, where home owners have made raised patios very popular; it improves the elevation of their gardens. This detailed guide will look into the benefits from raised patios, design ideas, materials, and considerations in creating the perfect outdoor oasis.
What is a Raised Patio?
A raised patio can simply be described as an outdoor living space built with materials such as stone, brick, and wood, but at an elevated level. Unlike regular patios, which sit even with the ground, a raised patio is built a few feet over the landscape that surrounds it, often on top of a backside retaining wall. Such design enables higher creativity in landscaping, better drainage, and unique aesthetic appeal.
Benefits of a Raised Patio
Aesthetic Appeal: A raised patio simply adds style and interest to your garden. Someway, the raised patio invites the eyes, adding to the landscape design.
Better Views: Since you are at above-average height, your views can include much more of your garden and even the landscape surrounding you. You may even create a nook private enough, enabling you to simply relax.
Patio systems have better drainage since there isn't a preoccupation with the event of flooding patio areas, considering the system is a little higher than the top soil. A raised patio will not easily have flooding and, hence, save your patio surface and furniture from water damage.
More applicability: This might also be used for other purposes like an outdoor dining patio, entertainment patio, or even a quiet retreat to be alone and read amidst the beauty of nature.
Custom design: A raised patio allows for endless design possibilities-from built-in seating and decorative railings to landscaping features.

Raised Patio Design Ideas for Your Patio
Here are some ideas to consider when designing your raised patio for optimal impact:
Multi-Level Patios: One could even have a multi-level patio, featuring stairs that lead upwards or downwards into various parts of the patio. This has the potential to add depth and dimension to the space outside the home.
Built-in seating: Add built-in seating around the edges of the patio. Not only does it save space but it also creates a nook for your guests to sit and get comfortable.
Fire pit: Adding a fire pit can enhance the ambiance of your raised patio, providing warmth and a gathering spot for friends and family.
Landscaping Features: Plant as many flowers, plants, or shrubs around the patio to make it greener. Retaining walls and planters are ingenious ways in which greenery can be incorporated in the design.
Lighting: Use outdoor lighting to make your raised patio strikingly beautiful in nighttimes. You can achieve this cozy appeal with string lights, lanterns, and recessed lighting.
Choosing the Right Materials
The type of material you use for your raised patio will factor a lot into its durability, maintenance, and aesthetic appeal. Following are some of the more common materials one can use:
Natural Stone: Flagstone, slate, and granite add class to a raised patio. They make for a classic appearance and are highly durable.
Pavers: Concrete or clay pavers come in different shapes and colors, even sizes, which allows making different patterns and designs in creative ways. They are pretty easy to install and easy to take care of.
Wood: A raised wood deck or patio has the potential to be phenomenally warm and inviting. However, wood does require decent amounts of maintenance against rot and weathering.
Composite Materials: Composite decking is manufactured from recycled materials that have high resistance to weathering. Therefore, it is a low-maintenance option.
Brick: Brick patios reflect a classic look into which an element of elegance may be instilled. They are strong and resistant to multiple weather conditions.
Planning Your Raised Patio
To design your raised patio, here is how you can build a perfect one by following the steps outlined below:
Get a feel for your space: Consider your yard's topography to find out about slopes, existing features, and sun exposure. That will give you a sense of the right patio location and design.
Check with your local council before commencing to see if there are building regulations or permissions that cover the building of raised patios. In the UK, this may address such issues as structural height, materials to be used, and patio drainage.
Design Your Patio: Create a detailed design plan, complete with dimensions, materials, and extra features. You could also use design software or consult a landscape designer to get professional advice.
Prepare the Site: The site on which your patio is going to sit should be free from grass, plants, or debris. Make sure the ground is level and water will drain off without accumulating in any one spot.
Build the Foundation: Depending on what you plan to use to build your raised patio, you may need to create a concrete foundation or a retaining wall to support it. Be sure that proper drainage is designed into the foundation to avoid water accumulation.
Patio Surface Installation: Install your patio surface, making sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions to have everything level and secured.
Finishing Touches: Add other features such as railings, lighting, and landscaping elements to create your finished raised patio.
How to Maintain Your Raised Patio
Following are some of the maintenance tips that will keep your raised patio looking great.
Regular Cleaning: Regular sweeping or hosing down of your patio will remove dirt, debris, and leaves. For stubborn stains, depending on your patio material, you are able to apply a cleaner that is appropriate for the material it is made of.
Application of Sealant: Depending on the material, one should consider applying sealant in order to protect from weathering, stains, and moisture.
Check for Damages: Regularly inspect it for cracks, loose stones, and wear marks. This will allow early interception of problems before they have greatly worsened and will save costly repairs.
Weed Control: For those patios that are made from pavers or stones that have some gaps between them, they are most likely to have weeds growing in them. Apply an effective weed killer or pull them out by hand to keep your patio clean.
Care for the furniture: Keep your outdoor furniture dry with covers, or take it inside during bad weather. This helps take better care of it for a longer period and maintains its good look.
Cost Considerations
The actual cost to install a raised patio can vary dramatically depending on materials used, size, and the complexity of design. The following are things to ponder on as you budget for your project:
Materials: Natural stone and quality pavers are generally more expensive than concrete and brick. Do some research into the prices of different materials to determine which ones will work for your budget.
Labor Costs: If you plan on hiring a professional to install the pavers, then you could see a dramatic increase in the total price of your project. Determine whether you prefer to handle the project yourself or hire out a contractor.
Site Preparation: If the yard requires extensive grading, drainage solutions, or demolition of existing structures, be sure to budget for such costs.
Design Features: Built-in seating, lighting and landscaping add to the cost, so be sure to budget accordingly.
Conclusion:
A raised patio adds style and class to an outdoor area, creating the perfect retreat for quiet solace and entertainment. With many design options, materials, and features, you can have a patio that speaks your personal taste and flair to complement your home and life. Whether you are one of those who relish quiet nights star gazing or who host the loudest family reunions, a raised patio will add something special to your outdoor lifestyle.
Keep in mind the benefits, design inspirations, and maintenance advice covered in this article as you work on your raised patio. If properly planned and executed, you will be able to continue enjoying your lifted haven for outdoor space for many years.

Highlighting Landscaping Features: Retaining walls can be integrated with other landscaping elements such as gardens, ponds, or pathways. They act as frames, drawing attention to focal points and enhancing the overall beauty of your outdoor space.
Property Value: Well-designed and properly constructed retaining walls can increase the market value of your home. Potential buyers often appreciate the functional benefits of retaining walls Adelaide and the aesthetic appeal they bring to a property.
Considerations and Maintenance
Professional Installation: While some homeowners may attempt DIY projects, it's advisable to consult with professionals for larger or more complex installations. Proper engineering and construction ensure longevity and effectiveness.
Drainage and Waterproofing: Effective drainage behind the retaining wall is crucial to prevent water buildup, which could compromise its structural integrity. Waterproofing materials may also be necessary depending on soil conditions and climate.
Routine Inspection: Regular inspections and maintenance help identify any issues early on, such as cracks or signs of soil movement. Prompt repairs can prevent costly damage and ensure the longevity of your retaining walls.
Final Words
Retaining walls are more than just functional structures; they are integral components of a well-designed landscape. Whether you're looking to tame a steep hillside, create stunning garden tiers, or enhance the overall aesthetics of your property, retaining walls offer endless possibilities.
