“You know I can’t pay you for this.” Raine leaned against the doorway as she looked at them. “I can barely afford anything, of course. But I make do! I’m not complaining. All this to say that I can pay you in with the leftover coffee cake from breakfast but there will be no monetary benefits to your handiwork.”

"Do you need a room?" Raine straightened up as someone approached. The beautiful spring morning was perfect for gardening, specifically replanting the garden that was all torn up from the storm. How could they advertise fresh vegetables for breakfast and dinner if they had no greens? Still, a stranger wandering up before the tourism season properly started warranted the break. "Or car trouble maybe?"

"How can I help you?" Raine turned around only for her slightly professional facade to slip. She wasn't expecting them to be standing at the front desk of her quaint little Inn. "Ah... Well um, here for a room?" She took one furtive look around to make sure her son wasn't lounging around annoying. After an already stressful morning, she didn't want to deal with more dramatics.

Raine set her large suitcase down and admired the entry hall. It was significantly bigger than her little old Inn and fancier than she thought it would be. Caretaker for the whole season with barely any responsibilities other than to keep it from burning down. And it would keep her mind off of her first holiday season without her son. Who needed stupid college anyway? Who didn't want to spend every moment with their mother? But none of that, she was embarking on a new adventure for the season and her whole journey of self improvement would create a new Raine ready to take over the world.

Of course she did need to get through the whole winter. Already the chilly air was invading, causing her to tighten her coat around herself. She watched her bags being whisked away from the caretakers rooms and she moved towards the fire. All she needed to do was meet with the manager, get the tour, then get to know her new home. And it would all be wonderful.

Her head was throbbing. In fact, every beat of her heart that carried her blood around her body brought another signal that something was wrong. Raine opened her eyes to see an unfamiliar room but a familiar person. "Well aren't I a sight to see with eyes." She mumbled. "What's going on?"
