This scene is so weirdly alluring to me.

What’s meant to be a fairly standard fantasy sequence (from what I remember) has a lot more symbolism going for it than you’d initially expect. I’m gunna go full the-author-is-dead on this one INCOHERENT TANGENT WITH A LACK OF A CLEAR THESIS GO

To me the arcade setting is symbolic of innocence, youth and escapism. This childlike mise en scene is being utilised to explore the dynamic of Jake and Roses relationship. The use of a two-sided tabletop arcade machine as a central prop is clearly emblematic of their (more specifically Jake’s) innocence and childhood as a whole being lost to their rivalry. Video game iconography represents competitiveness, specifically how Jake and Rose are destined to continue playing the same game of cat and mouse. Moreover, arcades being a place for leisure and escape exemplifies their desire to break loose from their circumstances.

The concept of a rite of passage is only reinforced with Rose’s activation of the jukebox, a device often associated with the rise in teen culture in America. With this connotation in mind, the initiation of the music evinces Rose’s maturity greatly surpassing Jake’s. Rose inserting the coin before Jake even enters the building also shows how her innocence was long gone before Jake’s involvement in her life. Moreover the fact neither of them activate the game on the table they’re occupied at indicates that this ‘game’ they’re playing is completely out of their control. I also like to think this scene is foreshadowing how she is literally going to change her tune on dragons (ba dum tss🥁)

Despite their maturity, their status or identity, they are both equal and see eye to eye - unlike their ancestors before them. While games are designed to have the same form and structure every single time you play it, only the players can change the outcome.

Though the specific use of anachronism with the retro arcade cabinets is lost on me. Okay now that I think about it, this stylistic device only further accentuates the centuries long conflict between the huntsman and the dragon race.

When viewing the motif of a fan through an anachronist lens, the fans serve more as a western and modern translation of a traditional fan. This appliance clearly represents the interplay of the status of a Huntsclan member and being a Dragon in their relationship. Not only do fans connote sophistication, social status and romance - all those traits relating to Rose but also their relationship as a whole. Furthermore, in a Japanese context (yes I'm aware that Jake is Chinese jus let me yap) fans are associated with cross-cultural exchange which the highlights the star-crossed forbidden aspect of their love. Additionally in Victorian era fans were used to non verbally communicate romantic interest. While idk much about each movements specific meaning I choose to believe its just to visually indicate that Rose is romantically interested in Jake wow who would've known XD.

I want to say the glass of water could symbolise how

Rose's longs to control her destiny much like how water is used to control our bodies temperature. Also accentuated with the way she doesn't drink the water but only applies it against her skin

She's out of her element/ doesn't belong. Water also connotes adaptability and survival. Maybe reflecting her survival against odds (odds being a Dragon hunter bein with her half human half dragon lover) (if that wasn't obvious haha)

Or if we continue with the rite of passage stuff, seeing as water is associated with rebirth, the interaction with water but not direct contact can be foreshadowing how her life is about to change seeing as well .. well you know dragon hunter.. half huma-

He knows he's a little...slower than everyone else, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. It's just not easy for him to learn some things. That's all. He's not stupid, he's not.

“Fuck you,”Legend huffs. Turns away from him, directs attention elsewhere. He gets it—hell, Wind picks things up quicker than him, but it's embarrassing and Legend hates being embarrassed.

Fable tells him that it's okay. That he shouldn't get upset about it, ‘everyone learns at their own pace’, and she thinks he's smart enough as is.

Ravio tends to agree with her, too. But he thinks they're both entirely biased. Fable is his sister, of course she'd say those things, and Ravio is....Ravio is Ravio, that's enough of an explanation.

He just sighs. If Warriors has tried to speak to him, he hasn't listened, nor does he plan to. He's probably just listing a million things that make Legend dumb.

I mean, sure if that's your thing, but that's not what the point of this post is. the rainbowed hair, blood, and eyes are cool and all but I need something a little less pretty bifrost glow-up and a little more I-got-turned-into-an-eldritch-monstrosity-and-can't-go-out-in-public-anymore.

Not full on monster level (though bonus points if they have a barely even human-esque form when they're angry or using their powers). I want them to still be decipherably humanoid, or recognizable by someone who'd met them before all this. but something that could conceivably be achieved by a cosplay is not enough for my hp Lovecraft body horror needs. my ideal post-tbi lyf design has become the subject of several drastic urban legends simply by walking around the street and not interacting with anyone.

so yeah. give the fricker tentacles that don't go away and are a nuisance to find clothes to wear with. make Marius find them pretty even when the way they've been changed isn't conventionally attractive. Haven't been really catching up with all the posts here bout agatha and rio but can I ramble about how without even begging for a ship to be canon, the whole thing has been given to us and IN THE FIRST... what? Ten minutes in the very first episode? And then marvel got us starving for more interaction for 2 fucking episodes and then BOOM, THEY NEARLY KISS LIKE ALLLLLLL OF SUDDEN AFTER SHATTERING US WITH AN INNUENDO THAT THEY WERE LOVERS (and traumatized, which in my opinion only makes the whole thing hotter jskskskssk praise the drama), then they finish the episode with a gap that turns into thousands of theories of how things will work out from now on AFTER CONFIRMING SOME OTHER THEORIES WE ALREADY HAD.

I mean, marvel.... you were crap for a while but ugh god bless whatever shit you're on now, don't stop.

Also, a whole week for less than forty minutes of pleasure should be illegal, I hate the devastating state I'm left with whenever the final intro begins 😑

Day 18 (yellow) - Gustholomule 💛

It's wild how little owl house fanart I drew during it run considering how obsessed with it I was. Anyway Gus and Matholomule were both top 5 favorite characters for me so OF COURSE I loved Gustholomule

I’m gonna go with some of my favorites off the top of my head! There were so many across the whole movie and I loved each and every one, lol

(Note this is in no specific order!)

1. Chica’s fucking Magic Rainbow

My friend Axe ( @gayfrogsarecool ) caught this lil easter egg while we were watching the movie and it managed to flood back so many memories. So.. many… memories…. (All of yelling at a rude ass rainbow-)

I’m probably in a minority of people who loved Fnaf World during its initial release, so I really wasn’t thinking there’d be a World reference! It was really sweet to see!

2. Balloon Boy (lil bastard-)

I can’t believe I’m admitting that this lil shit is the only animatronic who managed to succeed on every single fucking jumpscare. He got me each time— There was no excuse for them to work every time! He was literally just standing there! But noooooo, Freddy biting Max in half only gave me a brief pause of “Oh.” But the batterie thief himself is the one who made me jump from my seat- what the fuck-

3. Sparky the Dog! (And Sparky’s Diner!)

Every single fan who has been around since Fnaf 1 knows who Sparky the Dog is! The original hoax character. I remember when I was little and I’d be up watching theories trying to debunk whether or not he was a real character! A fan character was a big surprise and seeing that he even has an in universe diner themed around him made me feel like a kid again! (Only this kid now gets confirmation of a Canon Sparky-)

(Also Imma just say his movie design is adorable I love him sm-)

4. Carl & The Cupcake

Noticed this one out more recently! So during the whole segment where Max & her friends are picked off one by one by the gang I learned that the dude that the Cupcake straight up mauls happens to be named “Carl”! I have no idea if it was intentional or not but it could be a nod to The Cupcake’s fanon name!

5. The Ella springlock suit

So Ella on her own was a rather eerie and intriguing concept from the books (Saying this as someone who is still really iffy with how the whole “Charlie is a Robot” concept was handled)

But seeing her as her own animatronic in the movie really managed to bring up her creep factor! She just looks so ragged and forgotten, she looks like a creepy af porcelain doll (and I love that-). Makes me wonder if we’ll ever see animatronic Ella up and running (probably not but it’d be cool none the less!)

6. Cory & Matpat!

Coryxkenshin has always been a comfort channel for me! I always found his content genuinely nice, genuine, and I have a habit of going back to plenty of his old game playthroughs when I’m feeling down. Man also got jumped by BB- you and me both pal-

When I tell you the cackling I had from the whole “That’s just a theory” line, cheeky son of a- (also I now hc Ness as the Hurricane local menace who is a constant thorn in William’s side cause he keeps breaking into the Pizzaria on the weekends looking for evidence and shit from the MCI)

7. And Of course..

I mean did they really expect to have this as the end credits song and for me to not loudly sing it? Childhood in song form-

The fabled Alt-Vio makes his appearance!

He’s certainly..a character. More specifically, he’s a branching path from True-Vio that occurred very early on in the timeline.

CW: Mentions of Murder and general death!

Due to some influencer shenanigans Shadow got into, it resulted in a corral catching on fire, and, depending on the timeline, a few of Red’s (pink) slimes burned up in it. This was early enough that the trio hadn’t really gotten very close yet, and this caused immediate conflict between them all.

In the true timeline, the slimes were rescued and Shadow immediately set about making it up to Red for almost unintentionally killing his slimes for views on his stream. Vio found the whole situation to be a waste of time and resources, but as Shadow made more of an effort to be aware of his roommates, he let it slide.

In the alt-timeline, the slimes died, Shadow doubled down that it wasn’t his fault (they were pink slimes anyway, there's some literally right outside the gate), Red became even more distraught, and Alt-Vio decided that Shadow was going to be a hindrance and not worth keeping around. So he downed him in the slime sea. Like a Tarr.

He “justifies” it as being for science purposes, but it really wasn’t. Nothing was learned from it, except that people dying on the range wasn’t immediately suspected as foul play. Also, murder tends to have awful repercussions on your mental health.

Alt-Vio isn’t very sane in the slightest, as you might could tell. He actually does enjoy tormenting people, namely Red, but I won’t go into details (unless y’all are curious for some reason). He dresses the whole notion up as "scientific study", but it's really closer to torture if not just actual torture.

Also, let it be known that True-Vio would not enjoy murder. He jokes about it, has thought about it, and has no issues pushing Puddle and Fire slimes together to see what it do, but he does not want to actually harm real people.

Alt-Vio is an anomaly of the more extreme variety, and should not be looked directly at.

But warnings first! It gets kinda dark. Feel free to skip over this one if dark themes aren't your thing, or if you'd like to keep them separate from the AU at large. Alt-Vio has a very minimal role in the narrative outside making Vio question his morality, so you don't have to acknowledge him, really. That's Vio's role anyway.

+ As seen above, Alt-Vio has some funky traits to him. His split tongue is unique to him, True-Vio doesn’t have one, though he does have the tongue piercing. Alt-Vio also doesn’t have the whole quantum slime stuff goin’ on, rather he was more enamored with the Tarr after axing Shadow.

As a result of their influence, Alt-Vio is more aggressive and prone to lashing out. His intelligence remains mostly in tact, but is slowly deteriorating as his nature becomes less human and more instinctive.

+ True-Vio encountered Alt-Vio while (unintentionally) phasing in his sleep. It seems that while unconscious, there’s a chance to link up with another universe briefly, and interact with the Vio there so long as they’re able to perceive him.

Alt-Vio, by that point, had been caught and was being transported back to earth (forced to remain awake for the whole year as a small punishment, considering all he did). He had no problems “regaling” True-Vio of all the things he did to his former roommates, especially once he found out True-Vio was fairly close to his.

True-Vio woke up abruptly before finding out what actually happened to Red, but Alt-Vio specifically kept it vague as to torment True-Vio with all the many what-if situations (“you have to know Red’s secret by now, hm? He trusts you, right? Just like he trusted me? He’s so cute when—”).

Note: the secret in question could be anything, Red has told Vio several secrets at this point. This is why it messes with Vio so bad - he doesn't know which one Alt-Vio exploited, if any. And truthfully, it wasn't any of them. That whole bit was entirely a non-sequitur Alt-Vio brought up specifically to fuck with True-Vio's head, as he knew it would.

True-Vio never found out what happened to Green or Blue before waking up, but Green met a similarly violent end (involving Dervish Slimes, if that tells you anything), whereas Blue was the reason Alt-Vio got caught.

+ I don’t actually remember where the idea for Alt-Vio came from. I think the reality-warping aspect just made me wonder what Vio would do if he encountered the literal worst version of himself.

+True-Vio has only told one person about his run in with Alt-Vio, and that person is Green. He probably wouldn’t have told anyone had Green not followed him outside to check on him after waking up.

Green was the first to reassure him that Shadow trusts him (and finds enjoyment in being tossed ((not held down, Vio's never even tried that)) into the sea, hence why he keeps approaching Vio), as well as how Vio would never do anything to intentionally harm Red or any of them.

If Vio were going to turn out like Alt-Vio, he would have already.

Alt-Vio doesn't change how any of them see him.

Alt-Vio isn't their Vio.

I was only about halfway through my list of chores when Prince Ryan interrupted me. “Onyx, are you going to make a cake or something tonight?”

“Of course, Your Highness,” I agreed, bowing. “May I ask what for?”

“Oh, I wasn’t-” He frowned, tilted his head at me. “I wasn’t requesting a cake. I was wondering if there was one planned already. You don’t remember what for?”

Shit. No, I didn’t remember. And I hadn’t been punished in SIX days. Which wasn’t some kind of record, obviously, but it had been nice.

Except- except of course I was going to get punished again at some point. I’d known that already. Good servants weren’t so hung up on whether or not they were getting punished. Punishment only made me better at my job, and it wouldn’t do me any good to be selfish about it.

“My apologies, Your Highness, but I don’t think I remember.”

“Huh.” The prince didn’t look like he was going to punish me. He didn’t look upset. He wasn’t telling me about any rules I’d broken. “Do you… know how old you are, Onyx?”

I blinked. “Seventeen, Your Highness.”

“… Oh. Uh, do you know, like, what month it is?”

“Ah…” No one ever talked to me about what month it was. It wasn’t relevant to my chores. But Her Majesty had been wearing less layers lately, I thought, so… spring? Summer? “May, maybe, Your Highness?”

“April. Do you really not remember when your birthday is?”

Of course I remembered my birthday. Everyone knew their own birthday, and the birthday of people close to them, right? Like, Jayden’s was in November. The twins’ were in January. Mine was…

The problem with my birthday was that good servants didn’t really have many things that belonged to them alone. A whole day to celebrate just me would get in the way of things, probably. I wouldn’t be as productive.

I didn’t realize you didn’t know. I guess that makes sense, considering everything, but… huh.” He straightened his posture and put a smile back on his face. “Well. Back to your chores, then, I suppose.”

I stared blankly in his direction as he walked down the hallway.
