Without a year to fall back on, Igor had taken to wandering around. Better to be active and ascertain the situation, that he wandered into a gingerbread making competition, or perhaps gallery. there was nothing that familiar to him, more used to the hot air of San Paulo in Brazil rather then the winter wonderland he managed to get into.

whatever he was building, it was rather large and by the docks , the beach beside them. Paulie isn't one for sitting around and doing nothing, so he had to start small... a small boat building business. sure it had a lot of stress, but he aint' sitting his ass for a second. and building boats is second nature to him.

Eiden opens his mouth then closes it. Life brings all sorts of things you way - he could say that. It pretty shallow for a reveal like that but what else can he say really?

" .... yeah. That blows -- or wait no uh. "

" Sorry, don't really know what to say. I've been lucky enough for the people important to me to stay well - parted with many but no one's died really. "

Eiden glances at her with a little more decisive worth.

" For what it's worth I hope they're doing ok? "

Maria nods, guessing it's the same with him and the "little bro" he mentioned earlier. Even if Maria and the gang weren't related, they went through enough to be a family just the same.

Thinking about why they stopped, though...

Maria closes her eyes and takes a long, sad breath.

"Gran died. They found our hideout while we were out on a heist. He... They didn't go in to arrest her or nothin'. They just... blew it up. Blew up the whole damn mine..."

"After that, we only had two more jobs. One, so we could make things even with the sheriff, and two, so we'd have enough money to get by. But then we went our separate ways."

"Gran was the glue that kept us together, and without her..."

Maria trails off.

"I haven't seen my brothers in fifteen years. No clue what happened to them."

Cutting people down from the way of 'development' as they might say. He wasn't stranger to that sort of thing even if he hadn't personal experience with it.

Honestly it probably doesn't matter that much in the long run.

Maria nods. "Yep, rob trains. That's why I was askin' you about 'em."

"We weren't just in it for the money, though that was a part of it. We wanted to do right by our gran'ma, too."

Is that old timey language thing or ? Guess it doesn't really matter but it could also point an entirely different world -- guess it doesn't really matter but...

" Oooh you're in luck here though because even if you go and get yourself a wanted poster I'm no longer starving working student hehe. "

" What did you do for that though...? Just rob trains? "

Did she hear that right? Maria makes a face at Eiden's original plan for the gem. She's glad that didn't pan out, but to each their own, she guesses.

"Huh? Lonestar? It's a state in Merica. You know, the Unified States?"

"I ain't done much to earn a wanted poster here, in case you're wondering." (But maybe someday...)

Eiden glances down to the gemstone again. It's pretty unassuming just hanging from his neck like this.

" Wanted poster haha... I did hung out with some shady people some years back but haven't met anyone with a wanted poster before! ... well to my knowledge anyway... "

" ....doesn't ring a bell at all though. Where is that anyhow ? "

"Huh... That's convenient."

What are the odds that the customer gave him the gemstone for that exact reason? It wasn't like Lonestar going to Hell was just a random trick by the Devil, either.

Hearing him confirm that he's also from Earth is expected, but it still brings a smile to her face. Even if they're decades or centuries apart, at least they'll have a shared history.

"Hah, maybe. I reckon you'd find my face on an old wanted poster somewhere..."

"You know a state called Lonestar? That's where I come from."

" Err, I think it's more like it reacted to their summoning.... And I just happened to have it? Customer send it over actually."

Chance? Could it have been someone else in his position? Eiden had been told time and time again of his resemblance of the former Grand Sorcerer and he got a strange nostalgic feeling too but...

He shakes the thought out of his head returning to the conversation.

" Aa, Earth? Yes actually. Wooow.... "

She's not the first one he's met from the Earth but it's nonetheless pretty cool.

" I think we're differently from different time though. I haven't been taken horse to a school haha. Wonder if I'd be able to track you down in mine though? Like... find records or something."

If there's any sort of gemstone that'd have the power to take the wearer to another world, it'd be one like his, Maria would wager. She looks at the pendant and bobs her head.

"That'd probably do it. I've seen magic necklaces before, but I ain't never seen one that had the power to take you to some other world."

"And no, I meant, ah..." She snaps her fingers a couple times. "Your homeworld. Wherever you were before Klein? You wouldn't happen to be from Earth, right? Because that'd make two of us."

" Ohhh..... Yeah, it's that I guess? I didn't get hit on the head or anything, I just-- this thing started glowing and suddenly I was being transported there... Probably got pulled there because of this."

Eiden lifts the neon gemstone, up from his neck for her to see for a while before letting it drop down again.

" Hmm. Well, it's more old-fashioned and magic and essence functioning, I guess. If that's what you meant? There's loooots of differences otherwise. "

"It's a novel, yeah. A guy gets conked on the head and winds up back in medieval times. He's gotta use his wits and his modern day know-how to make it through King Arthur's time."

"I'm guessing it was the same for you when you woke up in Klein, huh? Is this place —" She gestures to their whereabouts. "— closer to where you were before, or is it more like something in-between?"

" Oh good then.... "

He wouldn't want for memories to be dug out all pointlessly.

" Err, what's that? Tv sh-- oh no you guys wouldn't have -- novel? "

" But yeah. Pretty much situation as here too right? Only in Klein I had better idea of full circumstances. Plus it was an accident too."

Maria shakes her head again, not out of grief this time, but to assure him that he didn't do anything wrong.

"You're alright. I wanted to tell someone about it, anyhow."

"So Morvay and this Aster person summoned you to Klein... Is this like A Yankee in King Arthur's Court situation? Y'know, where you wind up in this other world and you don't know how to get back?"

" Ah no, I asked. You're fine - sorry for being all nosy -- "

It's got to have been painful after all. As their topic turns Eiden quick to answer so as not to let any potential awkwardness linger.

" Oh, it wasn't anything important really - I said there was none in Klein but I forgot Morvay's totally one - he's an incubus but uh.. "

" I think in Klein's terms he just classifies as a familiar rather than a demon... Aster begged the former Grand Sorceror to make him for him and stuff but... well, nothing important, like I said. But y'know, he's an important friend of mine so can't go forgetting. He and Aster summoned me to Klein in the first place. "

"No, I don't think he did. Zad's a good guy, he's just... too trusting, I guess. And the kid, Sam, he's doing okay. But his brother..."

Maria shakes her head.

"I didn't mean to bring down the mood. What were you saying about that demon you know?"

Maria's got plenty of stories about demons, but she'd like to hear his story first.

"So there is war here."

"I suppose a city as rich as this one would have its own fair share of troubles. Perhaps the war will happen again with the same groups."

He has no idea. that sometimes the stars would reinact the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

"And here I thought this city would be a breeze of peace."

She's not sure how well those skills will translate to a potentially magic barrier, but she looks down thoughtfully all the same, contemplating for a couple moments.

"Mm. I've heard tell of some big battles in this very city, but you couldn't tell just by looking around. Keep your ears peeled, that's my advice."
