"Earth? well... A huge meteor storm that was called the great Inertia happened, causing a massive deposit of manarite deposits to arrive on earth. I'm not good with history but genestellars starting being born since a lot of pregnant woman were effected by it."

Recounting history lesson was a hassle but he understands the need to know. even if he doesn't like doing it. it was simply courtesy for someone who was polite enough to him and who asked.

"Genestellars are just people who are born with massive strength and speed compared to an average person, so ...basically super humans. I think we made up...3 percent of the population."

Its common sense not to give people , strangers even your address on the first meeting. got to build up that social bond, you know?

"Its a phone, my name is on it. Lester Macphail, seventeen years old."

"Yep. Just gotta keep on lookin'. One day at a time," she says. "Oh, and before you think of wanderin' off too far, the fog'll take ya. I've seen it."

"Do you know what room they gave ya? You should've gotten a key and one of them... rectangle phones."

Maria is thinking of a cell phone, she just can't think of the name right now.

the way things are... stars...it seemed like his life became one big joke, but who knows. he has to think positively. After all there is no one else he could count on expect himself, that is a basic rule of life, and ...something that he would have to deal with. He couldn't afford to look weak in front of others, after all.

"Its fine, its fine. Nothing can be done about it. its not like you know the way out either."

"Just got to keep looking."

The kid's not happy, and she doesn't blame him. This is a pretty bad hand they've been dealt.

"That's just the conclusion I've reached. You're more than welcome to prove me wrong."

"Wish I could tell you," she sadly says.

She kicks a pebble on the ground before she offers an explanation.

"They say that the people who brought us here are called the Stars," Maria explains. "Now, I don't know who they are, or what they're plannin', but folks say they get up to a lotta trouble."

"It sounds... crazy. I've heard things like... people changin' color, dreams comin' to life... So far, they haven't messed with me in any way, besides takin' my gun and shrink-a-catin' my horse."

"Not to mention everybody I left back home... Hope they're doing alright."

Maria lets out a sigh.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to ramble at ya. That's just the way things are," she says.

You're no help, but he thinks he doens't need to say that to let it be known. After all no one so far has been helping him with this situation. the Phoenix Festa was pretty soon and...he wanted to give a try at it.

"Why though." It was a question said out loud. though he is certain no one would give an answer he can be satisfied with.

"Japan?"

Maria shakes her head. The name doesn't register to her one bit. She hates to be the bearer of bad news and all, but somebody's got to tell the poor kid.

"Look. As far as I can tell, this here is what'd you call a one-way trip. Sometimes people go missing, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. We're all just... stuck here, 'till we're not," she says.

Gosh, everyone was so polite. it sets him off edge, thinking about the fact that when people are polite, it means they don't know much, or ...

"Yeah... that doesn't explain much. My only question is how do I get out of here. the city, do they do flights back to Japan?"

Another week, another eclipse, another handful of newcomers roaming the streets. It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, Maria was in this young man's shoes.
