so! i finished A Realm Reborn this afternoon! some thoughts so far from a wow vet:
-I was SUPER nervous about the raids that the story quest has you do, but it’s always just a party of 8 people. all of the groups i ended up with were super nice and friendly, and tbh? the last one was especially fun and i can easily see doing these again in the duty roulette (dungeon randomizer) for exp later on. it was really cool because everyone ran through super fast and i was the only sprout lmao.
-the story? fabulous.
-all i heard were “ugh ARR sucks and is so SLOW just boost past it” but fellas i come from WoW this was easy peasy. the only time i had to grind anything it took less than an hour to get to the appropriate level for the next main story quest, and it was only twice that this even happened and very late in the game. doing Fates was super quick vs various random quests.
-dungeons and raids were really cool and inventive. felt refreshingly different than your standard “trash-trash-trash-boss-trash-trash-boss-repeat” wow dungeon. also hella quick.
-very satisfying story end. i was invested as heck.
-did not realize that level 30 is when you’re supposed to get your Big Kid Job and only found out that i HAD to switch to bard at 45 OTL. i do not like bard, it’s... kinda meh. not the Upgraded Archer it touts itself as. doing research i want to switch to Dancer when that unlocks at 60. ranged physical dps is my jam.
-still have no idea what the crafting classes do but i collected them. apparently it’s way quicker to level them once you have the full game anyway.
-FLYING IS JUST UNLOCKED LIKE THAT I WANT MORE MOUNTS NOW
the gold cap for the free trial is 300k, which i hit right after finishing arr. houses start at 5 mil according to the reddit threads i looked up. I NEED THAT GIL YO. so.
how to best give squeenix money: a two hour research tale. give blizzard credit: they make it VERY easy to give them money and get going in the game. I’m pretty sure i’ll end up buying the Complete Edition ($60 for all pieces of the game aside from the very newest upcoming xpac), and then after the 30 days of gametime that come with it run out, i’ll do the $13/month subscription.
