On non-work nights, Les and his friends would "fire up the transmitter" in his apartment complex's basement. At 9 PM, Les would turn on the mic and say "The Booger Brothers Broadcasting System is on the air!"

In Les' words: "Then we would all start jamming and go non-stop until 8:30 in the morning, with people all over Queens tuning us in. Some of the all-night joints would send us food and drinks in exchange for on-air plugs, and famous people would drop by and jam under phony names because they were under contract. There were no rules, no set format. We were just winging it and it took off. The Booger Brothers was just a name we made up to go with the crazy things we did and the greatest musicians in the world played some of the best jazz ever heard from that basement."
