Bad Boy: Chef Luca x Reader
Tagging: @kmc1989 @djlnkaled @10ava01 @freckledhorse @wabi-sabi1090
Companion piece to:
Something Special - Luca knows you're something special from the very moment you meet.
Sfogliatella - Luca spends months perfecting your fav dessert leading to a surprise proposal.
Luca used to be a little wild, he tells you that when youâre sitting on the deck of the boat that he lives in, sharing an expensive bottle of wine. Your gaze is fixed on the lights from the city as they glitter across the canal as he hands you the glass before taking up residence alongside of you on the cushioned bench.
âUsed to be?â You ask carefully. âOr still are?â
âUsed to be.â He reassures you because he knows your history.
Youâd had a thing for bad boys in your early twenties. Youâd fallen in love with a man you were translating for, one who rode motorcycles and was possessive over his woman. He was fun, adventurous and secretive.
You canât say when you started to lose the pieces of yourself, only that one day Armand didnât like the way you dressed, he preferred you to wear darker scents instead of floral. A tracking app appeared on your phone so he could make sure you were âsafeâ. You wanted to leave but by that point yourself confidence had been eroded so much that you just couldnât bring yourself to walk out the door so you stayed.
Youâd stayed until you were woken up at three in the morning to the police bursting into his home and raiding the place for drugs. They had found nothing on the premises but you were both swept up for questioning. Theyâd detained you for five hours before they ascertained you had no knowledge of the operation. Armand had been charged and sentenced to twenty five years in prison for his role in cross state heroin operation.
It had taken such a long time to put yourself back together again after that, to reclaim who you were. Youâd taken a job at the UN to get out of the city, bounced around a few countries before you found a home in Copenhagen.
Itâs Lucaâs words that bring you back to the present. He hasnât told you how he ended up in Denmark, what led him to become a chef.
âMy home life, it was messed up. Most of the time we were this close-â he says indicating a tiny gap with his fingers. â- from being taken into care. I was stealing all the time, trying to make ends meet, bunking off school, lashing out...â
Noone in Copenhagen knows this story, they just know him as the guy who used to with for David Fields. Someone dependable, someone capable, someone stable. They donât know that there were nights he used his hide his sister in the closet and sing her to sleep because their mother was on another bender.
âCheffing saved me from all of that, it gave me the structure I needed at the time, the discipline and the cash to provide for my family until my sister was old enough for university.â
âWhat happened to your parents?â You ask him and he gives you a sad smile.
âDad was never really in the picture. The last time I saw him I think I was seven and he took me to an Arsenal game, after that radio silence.â He says shaking his head. âAnd mum⊠well the drugs took her.â
âIâm sorry to hear that.â You tell him and he shrugs his shoulders.
âWe expected it to happen a lot sooner if Iâm honest.â He tells you. âI know it sounds cold but when you live like thatâŠâ
âI kinda get it.â You say softly. âWhen I was with my ex, he would have these moodsâŠâ
You trail off and he understands the subtext. Heâs not the only one thatâs seen violence, thatâs managed to escape it and make something of himself. His fingers entwine with yours, a show of solidarity because if thereâs anyone that understands what you endured, itâs Luca.
âI was relieved when the police arrested him, I didnât have the strength to leave him before that but afterâŠâ Your eyes flicker up to meet his and truly they are the most beautiful shade heâs ever seen. âI got to be me again, the real me, not the one heâd tried to shape me into.â
âIâm glad that you escaped that life.â He says, reaching out to brush a strand of hair back behind your ear. âThat we both managed to find our way to each other.â
You clasp his hand to your cheek, your lips brushing over his pulse point as you whisper.
âYea. I am too.â

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Letâs spread the self-love đ
thanks for sending this ml đ«¶
fun fact, i uploaded my first ever fic on the 6th of november 2023, and over the five and a half months since then i have posted an additional 55 fics, bringing my grand total to 56 as of the 20th of april 2024 đ
here are my five favs đ«¶
TRANSGRESSION
You're in love with Spencer Reid. He's in love with somebody else.
WARNINGS: SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE MAEVE ARC, LOTS of misunderstanding, Spencer is kind of a bad friend, lots of arguing, major character death
pairing: spencer reid x gn!reader
genre: ANGST
wc: 8.2k
a/n: this is basically just angst after angst and although technically it has an optimistic ending for the reader, poor spence does not get the same courtesyâ
COPYCAT
A copycat killer recreates a notorious case that the FBI solved in 2004, and their best option for solving it comes in the form of the original killer themself, you.
PART ONE, PART TWO
pairing: s3!spencer and gn!unsub!reader
genre: mystery, crime drama
wc: 4.5k, 14.4k
a/n: itâs a two parter but iâm putting it here as one fic because itâs just one continuous story 𫶠sociopath!reader you will always be famous in my heart
JEALOUSY
6. "Don't touch me."
WARNINGS: spencer is a bit of a twat but apologises profusely afterwards, arguing, happy? ending
pairing: spencer reid x gn!reader
genre: angst
wc: 2.5k
a/n: part of the climacteric event that just ended a few days ago, i love making characters suffer for the sake of entertainment đ«¶
FORGIVEN
You lied to him with good intentions, but when he finds out the truth he says something detrimental in the heat of the moment. After weeks of radio silence any chance of reconciliation is almost lost after you get critically injured in the field.
WARNINGS: SPOILERS FOR IAN DOYLE ARC, harsh arguments, death wishes, gun mentions, major character injury, details of gun related injury
pairing: spencer reid x gn!reader
genre: ANGST with a happy ending
wc: 3.7k
a/n: this has gotta be one of my top favs just because i really think i managed to hit the nail on the head for the angst part of it
LITTLE THINGS
You'd like to say that you were entirely successful in emotionally removing yourself from your coworkers, but Spencer had managed to work himself into a crack in your emotional wall and the rest of the team is starting to notice.
WARNINGS: fem!reader, reader being dismissive and cold duh
pairing: spencer reid x cold!fem!reader
genre: fluff
wc: 1.5k
a/n: i knew i wanted to add a cold!reader fic in this list, but i wasnât sure which one, so after some deliberating ya girl settled on this one, itâs a cute introduction methinks
thanks again @cumulo-stratus for sending this my way, and fic authors please donât hesitate to self promote even if itâs not prompted by anyone else, put yourself out there my guys

âSqueeze trigger slow, donât forget to breathe.â His fingers are overtaking yours, contorting yours so theyâre using the proper form.
Even if you wanted to make a mistake, his frame was caging you in, stomach pressed deeply into the curve of your back. You do just that, firing at the glass jars lined up several feet away. Not a solid hit, but closer than the others.
Simon steps back, lowering the cock of the weapon for you. âYouâre hesitating. Thereâs no time to hesitate or youâre dead.â
âI know that.â You spit back. The fluster of continually missing, as well as being dragged out here nearly every day was getting to you. Not to mention the heat of the sun beating down on you, successfully blinding any shot you take.
âThen do it properly,â He stands near the jars in front of you now, crossing his arms over his chest in impatience. âYou think I have time to ponder when Iâm holding a gun to someoneâs head? I donât. I shoot first.â
Such a prickâan insufferable prick at that. His words only escalated the sour mood youâd had during this whole morning of make-shift boot camp.
You raise the pistol again, lining up the sights and tracing along his figure being outlined by the rays of sunshine. You exhale like youâd been coached, jerking the sights to the jar closest to him and squeezing the trigger.
The mason jar explodes, laying askew on the pallets heâd set them up on. He doesnât jump in surprise, or lose his composure.
âBetter. You might actually have a chance⊠If heâs a statue.â His lack of reaction only pissed you off more, practically wiping any form of a smirk you had after your first lucky bullet. You switch the safety back on, for his well-being as much as your own, and toss the iron to him.
He catches it without a second thought, returning it to the sack of weapons heâd brought to train with. A week, and youâd just barely made it to pistols. Not to mention, on your toes the entire time because thereâs been nothing but radio silence on your spouse. Not a letter, not a piece of mail, no sign of a tailânothing.
He begins the drive back from the countryside, somewhere about an hour out of town where none of the trigger pulls would be heard. His eyes are glued to the unpaved road in front of him, as usual. One hand on the top of the wheel, and the other taking up the entirety of his center console, leaving you little room to breathe.
âIâd say, youâre ready to carry one.â Simonâs words nab your attention. âJust donât shoot at me again, or youâre shit out of luck.â
You donât doubt the power of carrying, but itâs new nonetheless.
Perhaps his harsh feedback held weight, and you âmightâ have a chance in hell of defending yourself. Mightâas in, nearly none at all.
Thank the stars for that insufferable prick, then, because whether you want to admit it or not, his services are needed.
â
The weight of the piece is something youâll have to get used to.
You refused the hip holster, to Simonâs annoyance, of course. Instead, itâs going to remain tucked into your waistband, the icy metal of the .38 revolver digging into the soft flesh of your tailbone.
Heâs in the shower now, where he usually spends about two minutes anyways, despite you packing now. Bullets were your words now, if necessary. This situation was past legalities, or forms, or numbing and intrusive questions in the courtroom.
Three sharp pounds on the front door, and youâre already at your feet. The shower shuts off, and Simon has walked out with a towel concealing his waist and already started for the door.
âWait.â Youâre looking through the peephole only greeted with the sight of a badge and an impatient officer. Simon steps back a bit, watching the encounter from the hallway as droplets run down his frame.
Once youâve opened the door, the officer holds out some sort of form. The prospect of an officer at your door has prevented you from hearing his introduction or caring to take a look at the badge. The only words that find you are âhusbandâ and âdefamationâ.
He doesnât bother to let you respond, just shoves the form onto the entry table and gives Simon a sickened glare. At first glance, probably thinking Simon is your side piece showering off after a night of adultery.
The officer has retreated down the steps of the complex, leaving you unable to process anything. Simon doesnât say a word, just retreats to his room to finish dressing, as if there wasnât almost a dead cop laying in the foyer.
Your hands shiver as you skim through the document, seated at the kitchen table. You couldnât believe the bastardâcops and judges already on his payroll, coming up with some bogus claim of defamationâall while youâre left with no evidence of the latter.
Heâs returned quickly, resting his palms on the table as he soaks in the information. âYouâre not going to that trial.â The paper is taken from your fingers, forcing you out of your discomposure.
âIâll go to prison if I donât show, Simon.â You respond quickly, wondering what the hell heâs getting you roped into.
âNo, youâll be dead.â He leads, the palms on the table turning to tight fits. âOnce youâre in the courtroom, heâll have access to you, or whatever shitty motel youâll be staying in for months. Youâre not going.â His commands are nearing that of a hardened soldier.
âThis is my life youâre talking about. I canât just pack up and run from the federal government. Heâs not going to kill me, heâs going to try and put me in jail, then throw away the key.â Your tone has heightened, but his hasnât.
He takes a few steps back from the table as if trying not to blow his top. âYouâre hiding out in a shitty apartment, sobbing in the middle of supermarkets, and youâre confident in that assessment?â
âIf he wanted you in jail, he wouldâve planted evidence on you. Iâll repeat myself. Youâre not going.â Simon sighs sharply, trying to calm himself again. âWe need to get out of this apartment for now, before more police poke around and find you packing heat.â
The lack of decor, luggage still in the corner, non-perishables youâd boughtâall for the inevitable moment he finds you. That moment was here, and now you were packing it all away. Somehow the place looked less pitiful with it all packed away and stuffed into his backseat.
â
You were somewhere in the countryside, only in the opposite direction of the shooting range you were at that morning. He hadnât stopped once during the long ride and wasnât planning to. You were in a small town before you knew itâsomeplace youâd never heard of, and probably with a population that doesnât reach triple digits.
The barren landscape you were passing in the near forties seemed to continue forever. The endless crop and winding paths would provide cover, but the scenarios playing in your head depicted worse.
The entirety of the town was in a clusterâa few gas pumps, a motel, a pharmacy, and a dinerâall of which much older than youâd been alive, visibly decaying under years of neglect.
His truck rolled to a stop, parking in the empty lot of the motel. You two seemed to be the only ones rooming in this apocalyptic townlet, and you were grateful for that, at least. He retreated into the office and returned holding a key to your room.
You climbed out, retrieving the duffel that had your entire life packed into it. His bag of weapons was slung over his shoulder, and he carried it as if the weight had no effect. Heâd stayed quiet the whole trip, and it continued well into entering the shared space.
Two beds, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. Nicer than you expected, albeit the exterior painted a different picture earlier.
Your stiff limbs freed themselves when you sprawled out on the bed you claimed, remaining in disbelief of the situation at hand. You were on the run again, but this time not from himâfrom the law. How long could this go on? Living in motels, with an overbearing male roommate? Especially one without a sense of humor; the spiteful cherry on top.
He closed the curtains with a jerk, forcing you to stare at the dated floral pattern they had, instead of the secluded view outside. There was no time for error, especially when it was someone other than the law to figure out youâd skipped town.
Just when youâve begun to close your eyes, heâs loudly rifling through the luggage sitting on the floor, muttering curses under his breath. You sit up in bed in a huff, glaring into his back. Finally, he pulls out the bottle of Kentucky, pouring himself a generous glass, before thumping it down onto the faux-granite counter.
âSeriously?â You sigh, sitting yourself up on your arms.
He takes a few seconds, savoring the burn running down his throat. âGonna need it. Helps me focus.â
âWeâll need to pick up a few things at that pharmacy, so get up.â Thereâs no chance in hell heâs leaving you here alone, despite the store only being a few blocks away. Bickering only greeted you with an icy glare, so you grumbled to your feet, slipping into the jacket youâd removed only minutes before.
In usual fashion, heâs a few steps behind you, watching the few people that are out and about at the moment, most of which are retirement age.
Youâre inside the pharmacy now, practically tapping your foot at him as he grabs the supplies you two might need. More non-perishables as well as a small kit used for camping. It was clear to you this little âroad tripâ wasnât going to end soonâand he was quite used to being on the run.
As soon as heâs placed the bills on the checkout counter, youâve exited the store, nearly skipping back to his truck. He begins the short drive back, but his eyes keep darting between the rearview mirror and over his shoulder.
âWe have a tail.â He snarls, continuing to divert further from town. âIâm gonna make sure we lose it.â
His words make your hairs stand, whatever the hell he meant by that was nothing pretty. He was getting further from town, so whatever his plans were needed absolutely no witnesses.
âGun?â You ask, looking over your shoulder at the black Mercedes creeping closer.
He nods, still frantically assessing his four corners. The road signs have disappeared again, and youâre back to crops and trucking warehouses. You lift yourself off the seat a bit, retrieving the revolver you previously had tucked away. You check the cylinder, indeed seeing six bullets loaded insideâbullets heâd filed Xâs into the tips himselfâthey âblew a nastier holeâ that way, according to him.
Itâs in your lap now, as you bounce around from his speed increase. The tail does the same, nearly bumper to bumper with his trunk now. Simon diverts, trying to ensure it canât clip it, but the unpaved road before you is already unsteady enough when youâre going straight.
The Mercedes clips into the side of his truck, but the size difference between the cars only causes it to swerve. Simon turns abruptly, making the tail believe heâs taking a right. In reality, he swerves left, causing the confused driver to go straight into the metal fence lining the road.
You only see the wreckage briefly; crushed hood, steam rising from the hood, and no further movement from the driver.
He slams the brakes, pulling off to the side. He pulls out his much larger caliber pistol, slamming the truck door behind him. Heâs gone to make sure he finishes the job.
Your fingers find the lock button, about to hear that click, when the passenger door is whipped open, and youâre face down in the gravel before you know it. Your gun is askew somewhere, having been ripped from your hands.
The assailant's fingers dig into your scalp, forcing you to kneel on the sharp pebbles. Heâs surely one of the men your husband hired. His nose is busted, and there are small shards of glass embedded in his face that heâs too determined to mind.
This was the moment fate caught up with you, just like youâd thought it would. Either with you dead in your apartment, or staring down the barrel of a gun like you are nowâdisarmed and on your knees execution-style.
He cocks it, pressing the metal into your temple.
The unmistakable crack of a gunshot echoes through the countryside, causing both of you to jump in surprise. Had Simon been ambushed? Was he already bleeding out in the dirt?
He seems to think the same, a lordly smirk spreading, revealing his bloodied teeth. You snap your eyes to the stars above you. His leer is not going to be the last thing you seeâthe night sky would be.
The ring in your ears is louder than the gunshot itself. Warm sprinkles have splattered across you now, dripping down your neck. But youâre not dead. Not clenching a bullet hole either. You have to look down to be sure, examining your body with sanguine hands.
Instead, itâs the man with a hole in his head crumbled in front of you, still your pistol in his dead fingers. The ringing subsides, but your eardrums are muffled slightly like youâve just had your head underwater.
âBastard got me,â Simon stumbles back, making you sigh in relief, ââcame out of the fuckinâ backseat, didnât see him.â Heâs sputtering, putting a flat palm against the stab wounds on his stomach, while the other is against the door of the truck.
You use the truck for support as well, feeling the stray pebbles that were still digging into your knees, not to mention the crimson seeping into the fabric of your clothes, sticking to you. You snatch your pistol back, stuffing it back into your waistband.
Heâs barely upright now. An uncanny sight at best, seeing him struggle to hold his own weight.
âWe need to⊠Clean this upâŠâ He takes his palm off the truck, but itâs returned when he nearly stumbles again. Heâs fighting himself, forcing himself to be the one in charge here. Simon glowers down at his abdomen, lifting the saturated fabric. Itâs worse than you expected, not in the deepness of the punctures, but how much blood he lost in the scuffle.
You can tell he wants to speak, to give you some sort of instruction, but the pants coming from him are too severe. He slides down the truck, leaning against the large tire for support. Heâs gone even paler than usualâyou can tell through the eyes of his mask.
His chest is rising and falling rapidly, at least. But it wonât be soon if you donât do something.
Itâs a blur; grunting and using all your might to put the dead man into the bed of the truck. You open the door to the backseat, finding the foil blanket in the camping kit Simon bought. You cover the bed, so his corpse looks like nothing more than a lump of firewood, or hay, or something other than what it is.
The skinny flashlight finds its way between your teeth, as you scoop and kick the dirt around to cover up the blood. The storm clouds forming are your only hope of washing away any evidence of this bloodbath. You shine the light on the side of the car, where some of the splatter had cast. You wipe it away with your sleeve, leaving only small traces of it.
Finally, it shined on him. A half-conscious Simon, who you can barely lift into the truck. He gives a little way, but your arms are putty by the end of the ordeal. Heâs slumped in the seat, and you havenât bothered to buckle him in.
You climb inside the driverâs seat, reversing quickly to make it back to the motel. The lack of guests will make patching him up easier, but the prospect of what unfolded is not providing much comfort. Youâre speeding down the strip of unpaved road, eventually greeted by the few street lights illuminating the town.
You slow when you reach the parking space, claiming the one directly across from your room, so transporting Simon is easier. Luckily, the few residents that live there have retreated in for the night, leaving no prying eyes around.
You palm his pockets, locating the room key. Thereâs no time for slippery fingers or trembling hands. You make way for yourself and him by opening the door first, then pulling him out of the truck. Heâs putting as much weight on himself as he can, but youâre left to do most of the literal heavy lifting.
Simon was otiosely dropped onto his bed, left to writhe only for a few seconds while you grabbed the rest of the camping kit from the backseat. When you return and lock the doors behind you, youâre quick to dig through the luggage for pieces of clothing. Ones you can put underneath his torso to prevent the mess his wounds are going to make.
You fish the knife he kept in his pocket out, cutting through the soaked t-shirt fabric. It glides off easily, allowing your amateur eyes to feast on the punctures. They arenât deep, clearly not done with enough force to do serious internal damage, but thereâs enough for the blood loss to be his biggest problem.
Simon mustâve finished him off before he could rough him up moreâyou could tell by how jagged the last stab wasâlike the manâs blade had been ripped away hastily.
âThe bourbonâŠâ He murmurs, bringing the bottle to your attention. Something youâll be able to use. The self-medication that was slowly killing him might just be his saving grace.
You zip to the counter, unscrewing the cap from the bottle. He nods his head, bracing himself like heâs been through his a hundred times. He probably has, for all you know. The fawn-tinted liquid sizzles at his wounds, both disinfecting and irritating the reddened, puffy flesh.
Heâs gritting his teeth under the mask, clenching one of the towels you laid out for dear life. Still, handling the pain better than you expected. You, on the other hand, were minutes from spewing.
The blood was coming out faster than you could keep up with, and no matter how many times you dug through that camping kit, it was only small bandages and ointment. You had no choice, you had to get to that pharmacy.
First, youâre hunched over the sink, scrubbing away the crimson coating you. You take off your jacket, ridding yourself of your bloodied clothes. One of his hoodies will have to do, and it will cover the remnants remaining in your hair. From how squeamish the sight was making you, you could swear you were paler than the man actively bleeding out.
Next, youâre out the door again, darting down the slick streets. Those storm clouds you saw earlier had begun to rain down on you. Good for the crime scene miles away, but not for your joints. That taste of blood, pinching in your side as you forced yourself to keep going, closing in on the pharmacy eventually.
Heaving in the first-aid aisle, grabbing any sterile gauze you see, then a box of gloves. Of course, the selection is limited. The townsfolk probably arenât playing mob doctor like you are right now.
Once youâve made uneducated guesses on what to get, itâs like youâre reminded of the dying man in your hotel room. Thereâs no time to pay, and no active camerasâno time to question the logistics of it all. Besides, the geriatric clerk barely gave you a passing glance when you stormed inside.
Youâre out the back door, looping around the building until youâre back on the sidewalk again, racing with the supplies hooked under your arm. Youâve only been away minutes, but those were precious minutes where he couldâve hemorrhaged even more.
The rain putters heavily, coating your lashes like it did in the parking lot of the supermarket, daring you to stumble in disorientation.
You fiddle with the key, nearly kicking the door down when it struggles. It gives way eventually, and youâve slammed it, already sitting on the edge of the bed. He kept a hand on his wounds while you were away, luckily, but heâs starting to slip again.
You peel Simonâs large fingers away, then look at the supplies before you. You rush to the sink and sterilize your fingers, darting your gaze from the sink back to him.
You look down at itâthe engagement ring you havenât been able to take off all this time.
âFuck it.â You mutter, tearing it off your finger. It clatters somewhere in the sink, and you leave it there to get back to Simon. You tear the cardboard encasing the gloves, slipping them onto your trembling fingersâpartially from the cold rain, as well as the know-nothing decisions youâre going to make to treat him.
Stitches are out of the question, so youâre going to have to pack the woundsâsomething you've seen on a medical show once. You unravel the roll of gauze, cutting off small sections of it with the knife, and then get to work.
Heâs lucky heâs knocked out because heâd probably cringing right nowâfrom your medical care, not your fingers digging around at his wounds.
You loop the bandage around your index finger, trying to recall the steps. You push it deep enough to prevent it from bleeding through, stuffing the gashes in a zig-zag pattern. One by one, you move to the next wound until theyâre all packed.
If these stabs had been any deeper, there would be two bodies in the bed of the truck right nowâone of which would be the owner. Opportunely, they hadnât bled through the gauze so far.
The exhaustion caught up with you quickly, but you were determined to keep an eye on him. Without him, you were screwed, plain and simple. He wasnât going to die and leave you with this unexplainable mess, one that he got you into when he took you on this hellacious joyride.
â
You mustâve dozed sometime in the night because the sunrise was peaking through the gaps of the curtains when your eyes opened. Not to mention, Simon was shoving you away from him, grunting as he was finally able to sit up.
He peered down at the evidence of the unpractised medical attention youâd given him. His fingers found the bottle of Kentucky still on the nightstand, and he took a slug from it, feeling the tension release a little bit.
The sight of the room surprised him a bitâthe medical supplies and luggage thrown around, the clothing laid out below him, and not to mention the blood still dried on your fingers.
He finds his footing, despite the frazzled expression youâre maintaining. Heâs been here before, in fact, been closer to death many times. This was nothing to Simonââjust a scratchâ as heâd say. He grabs one of the only clean shirts left, slipping it on to cover himself.
After heâs taken another drink, he turns to you, standing above you with authority. This was no longer a game of cat and mouse, it was past that now. He had bigger problems, like the corpse in the bed of his truck, and the prospect of more of those men coming.
He finally finds the words when he sees youâre no longer wearing your ring. âWhatâs this bloke's name, the one who sent his dogs on us?â
You shake your head in confusion, but his clenched jaw is persistent and only going tighter. Youâre forced to swallow the lump forming in your throat. You, too, can tell things are changing, and itâs become more personal for Simon than heâd like to admit.
You utter his name, as heâs forced you to reveal it. âCal. His name is Cal.â
He takes a sharp inhale, taking in the information. The hands that were resting at his sides have now turned to fits. âAfter we take care of that problem in the back of my truck, weâre gonna find this bastard.â You could swear steam would be coming out of his ears by now.
He grabs his truck keys off the table and starts towards the door, growling something under his breath that you didnât make out,
âIâm gonna find this bastardâŠâ

Life Eternal (part 2)
Can you see me longing for you forever?
Larissa Weems x former student fem!reader
A/N: Thank you to anyone who enjoyed the first chapter and asked for more! Still inspired by some of my life events. Title again from one of my fav Ghost song (you should really listen to it, just for some more angst).
TW: alcohol consumption
You have no idea how long the two of you stayed in each otherâs arms, Larissaâs body gently swaying as she rubbed soothing circles on your back. You didnât want to let go and it seemed like she didnât either.
âWe should go back outside.â Larissa eventually said but made no move to pull away from you.
Just one more minute, please.
âWe should.â You agreed and reluctantly let go of the tall woman.
âLet me take a good look at you, itâs been so long.â Larissa said as her hand cupped your cheek to lift your head.
It took all of your strength not to close your eyes and nuzzle your face in her palm, instead letting your eyes roam on her face like hers did on yours. You loved everything about her. From her sapphire eyes to the dent on the tip of her nose to the scar that slashed through her lip.
âYou havenât changed at all.â You said when your eyes locked with hers again. You are still the most beautiful woman in the world.
âYou have. Youâve grown into a beautiful young woman.â Larissa smiled and her hand dropped back to the side of her body, making you miss its warmth instantly.
There was a moment of silence between the two of you that lasted until Larissa eventually moved toward the door.
âPerhaps afterward we could visit the Weathervane for a hot chocolate? I would love to catch up and hear about all those adventures youâve been on during those five years. Do you still like it with whipped cream and cinnamon?â Larissa offered, half turning to look at you.
I canât. I canât spend the evening with you as if I had never left. I canât bare the thought of opening up to you. I can not let you build a nest inside my heart again, Larissa.
And there it was again, that look of expectancy in her eyes. Why did she keep hoping all those years, couldnât she just forget about you like you had tried so hard to do about her? Had she even tried at all?
âI think I could use something stronger.â Was all you could answer. You should have said no, but you couldnât disappoint her.
âOf course, I know a nice place downtown. I will take us there once everyone is gone.â Larissa gave a nod and opened the door, waiting for you to walk out of her office.
You were back in the yard in a few long strides, taking deep breaths of fresh air hoping it would ease the loud ringing in your ears.
You had no choice but to make small talk to a few people from your past when Enid grabbed your arms and dragged you to one of the tables. It seemed like everyone had settled into their life. Most had a nice job, were in a steady relationship and some were even married. As you found out, none of them were madly in love with a woman twice their age.
From time to time youâd look around the yard, hoping to catch a glimpse of Larissaâs tall figure, only for your heart to skip a beat each time your eyes met.
âPromise me youâll call more often!â Enid said as she gave you a tight goodbye hug.
âI promise Iâll try.â You nodded, catching Wednesday smirking at your answer.
What a strange couple they made, you thought as they walked away into the parking lot. Opposite attracts. At least you hoped that was true, that might give you a chance with-
âWell, it looks like everyone is gone.â Larissaâs voice snapped you out of your thoughts. âYou can wait by the car, darling, I just need to fetch my keys.â
You were surprised to see that she was still driving that old minivan, surely that thing should have been sent to the scrapyard a long time ago.
Larissa turned on the engine which in turn turned on the radio, Lovesong by The Cure instantly filling the car. Larissa moved to turn it off but you quickly grabbed her arm to prevent her from doing so.
âIs it still your favourite?â She asked and you answered with a nod. Of course it was. It was the song Larissa used to introduce you to her favourite band.
Whenever I'm alone with youâšYou make me feel like I am home againâšWhenever I'm alone with youâšYou make me feel like I am whole again
You looked through the window and bit on the inside of your cheeks. Everything about this song reminded you of her.
âWhenever Iâm alone with you, you make me feel like I am young again.â Larissa softly sang along to the lyrics. âWhenever Iâm alone with you, you make me feel like I am fun again.â
Her fingers gently drummed on the steering wheel and your eyes drifted to her face, your heart swelling with yearning when you barely audibly whispered the next lyrics.
However far awayâšI will always love youâšHowever long I stayâšI will always love you
You sighed in relief when the song came to an end and Larissa parked the car outside the bar.
âIâve been here a couple of times, itâs very cosy and usually not too noisy.â She said as she pulled the door to let you in.
The place was dimly lit, people sat in booths with seating made out of leather and velvet. There were mouldings on the ceiling and the wooden walls were covered in framed artwork. It felt chic, expensive and, you dared to think, a little romantic.
âHave a seat, darling.â Larissa said, her hand on the small of your back gently pushing you towards an empty booth.
âDo you remember the first time I had alcohol?â You asked her once you had settled down and the waiter had taken your order - a bottle of red, which Larissa picked, and an antipasti board to share.
âIf I remember?â Larissa laughed and shook her head a little at the memory. âI felt guilty for weeks!â
It had been on your eighteenth birthday. The two of you had shared a glass of rosĂ© and a piece of cheesecake that sheâd bought from the Weathervane for the occasion. Sheâd made you swear that you wouldnât tell anyone she had let you sip on her wine.
âGood thing Iâm legally allowed to drink now, then.â You grinned when the waiter poured you a glass.
You werenât sure wether it was a good thing or not, actually. Alcohol had a tendency to loosen your tongue, you had found out through the years, and you usually werenât what they called a âhappyâ kind of drunk.
âTo friendship that lasts, even after years apart!â Larissa smiled, raising her glass.
âTo friendship.â You nodded and clinked your glass against hers. You would need more than wine if she used the word friendship again.
âSo,â Larissa put her glass down after taking a sip. âTell me everything, I want to know everything that youâve done since graduating.â
So you told her. You told her about going to university and failing. Picking up another course only to realise mid-year that you didnât like it. Twice. How you struggled to find your place, how nothing ever seemed to be distracting enough.
âWhat did you need to be distracted from?â Larissa suddenly cut you off, her chin resting on her hand as she listened to you.
You. I needed to be distracted from your memory. I needed to find something, anything to replace you. But to no avail. The heart wants what it wants, and mine wanted you, it still does.
âWho knows?â You shrugged and thanked the waiter who had just placed the food on the table.
âAnd now? Have you found what you were looking for?â Larissa asked, worry painted on her features. âI could always help if you need anything. You were a brilliant student, Iâm sure I could find you a nice job if you let me give a couple of phone calls.â
Have I found what I was looking for?
âI go from job to job. Itâs not as bad as it sounds. It gives me the opportunity to try many, many things.â You picked an olive from the board and popped it in your mouth, washing it down with a few sips of wine.
Thatâs when you noticed them, the two women sitting together in the booth at the back of the bar. One as young as you and the other one closer to Larissaâs age. They could have been mistaken for a mother and her daughter if it wasnât for the fact that they had chosen to sit next to each other rather than one on each side of the table.
âAre you with me?â Larissa waved her hand in front of your face, your eyes immediately snapping back to hers.
She poured you another glass as well as one for herself and started talking again. You tried your best to listen to what she was saying, you really did, but after a few seconds, your attention was back on the two women across the room.
There they were, their hands gently intertwined, sharing soft laughters and stolen glances. Their connection was palpable, their love radiating like an aura around them. A pang of longing coursed through your body. How badly you yearned for something like this.
âIs everything alright?â Larissaâs hand was on yours now, her eyes searching for yours. âWhy are you crying? You know that you can tell me anything.â
âCrying?â You repeated, your free hand moving to wipe your cheeks. When had tears started rolling down your face?
âFuck, I canât do this.â You said before emptying your glass and getting on your feet. You grabbed your jacket and pulled a few bills from its pocket, enough to pay for both Larissa and yourself.
âWait-â You heard the tall woman say but you were already on your way to the door.
Hot tears flooded your cheeks as you walked down the street, ignoring the tall woman calling your name a few feet behind you.
âFor heavenâs sake!â Larissa grabbed your arm and yanked you back. âWhat is wrong with you?!â
âWhat is wrong with me?!â You laughed, tears still falling from your eyes. You needed to get away from her before your loosened tongue started saying things that you could never take back. âIâm going back to Nevermore, getting in my car and leaving this hell hole. Forever this time.â
If your words hurt Larissa, she didnât let it show. Choosing instead to cup your face ever so gently. You had tried hating her, but how could you?
âLet me take you to a hotel. You will have a good night of sleep and weâll talk in the morning. How does that sound?â She offered, her thumb caressing your cheek.
You silently nodded in agreement and Larissa pushed a small smile, her arm wrapping around your shoulder as she walked with you to the nearest hotel.
She took care of everything, booking the best room available and even paying for it. Asking the front desk to wake you up at nine the next morning.
âThere you go.â She pushed the door to your room open and followed you inside. It was way too luxurious but you said nothing, grateful for everything she was still doing for you.
âWell, I should go back to Nevermore now.â Larissa said, hands clasped in front of her.
âThank you.â It came out of your mouth as a whisper and you couldnât help but wrap your arms around the tall woman again.
You held her close and tight as if it was the last time you would ever have the chance to hug her. And she held you back as close and as tight as you did as if it was the last time she would get the chance to hug you.
âNo more tears.â She said when she eventually pulled away, holding onto your chin to look into your eyes. âThere always is a solution, my darling, I promise. Whatever is bothering you now, we will find a way to fix it, together.â
Together. Surely that would fix you, you and her together.
Larissaâs lips pressed a soft kiss to your forehead before she wished you goodnight, reminding you to drink plenty of water to avoid a headache in the morning.
As soon as she was out of the room, you started sobbing again. You couldnât help it, you had to get all of these feelings out or you would go crazy.
You fell asleep that night clutching onto the pair of leather gloves that Larissa had gifted you, holding them close against your chest hoping they would somehow soothe your aching heart.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ

RADIO SILENCE ,, chap 07 â do we hear a breakup song?
synopsis. hwang y/n and park sunghoon do not like each other. end of story. god knows why (well actually, niki is the only one who knows why). but when theyâre put as co-hosts on a radio show, theyâre bound to bond.
ËËËê° đïž ê± main masterlist
you were rushing to your studio, a grin plastered on your face. today will be a hard day, but a good one. itâs the day. the album is already out so you decided to go live for a moment before rushing to the studio. oh and inkigayo! you were excited, more than ever. after the hiatus you were finally able to perform again! to go on music shows! and to think you were so close to losing it because of oneâ
ây/nâ
your eyes snapped up, meeting rikiâs. he was smiling softly, snacks in his hands.
âhiâ you said, trying not to let a hint of bitterness show on your face. riki looked around nervously and stepped closer.
âhi. congrats on the comeback. we listened to your album and itâs really, really good. amazing job, trulyâ he said. and you knew he was being genuine âand i mean it. iâll⊠uh⊠if you want to film a challengeâŠâ
you smiled tenderly, nodding your head
âsure, nishimura. i⊠thank you. andâŠâ you gulped, not really sure how to phrase words. âplease stay like that?â âdonât ignore me anymore?â âwhatâs up with all this?â. you sighed, hoping heâll know âthank you, really. it means a lotâ
he nodded and walked away. you watched him for a brief moment and reassumed the walk to your studio, excitement buzzing through your body. what will your fans say? did they like it? did they like the mv? which track is their fav?
you asked all those questions once starting the live, viewer count growing. it was way more than in your pre-hiatus era and it made you proud, you couldnât lie.
âwhatâs your⊠you mean mine? favourite track?â you read one of the questions and thought of an answer.
in the meantime, riki returned to their dorms. sunghoon had his earphones plugged, watching something on his laptop. one was hanging from his ear so he could hear if someone was talking to him. which, someone was.
âyo, i ran into y/n in the hallway. are you seeing her today?â riki asked, placing the ramyeons down. sunghoon perked up, frowning.
âwhy would i?â he asked, stopping the video. then he grabbed his phone, realising thereâs an unread notification: ây/n went live: d-day! :Dâ
âher comeback? you have the radio show later? just⊠friendly stuff? i congratulated her, she seemed so happyâ riki mumbled. the boys looked at each other, the younger one biting his bottom lip âi⊠i feel bad about how i treated her in the past. i hope she will forgive me one dayâ
sunghoon closed his laptop, a sinking feeling in his stomach. it was all his fault. and if riki feels bad, then what about him? he feels⊠guilty.
âshe willâ sunghoon smiled and stood up ânow iâll go bug her a littleâ
riki scoffed, watching his friend leave. he hoped so. (that she will forgive him, not that sunghoon will bug her - because it was inevitable when he was around)
in no time sunghoon barged into your room, the wall cutely decorated with balloons and deco that reassembled your concept. happy comeback! was what hung above your head while on your head there was a⊠birthday hat? and birthday glassesâ
âwhat the absolute fâ fudge are you doing here?â you deadpanned, moving your hands away from the cake. he stepped closer, a devilish grin on his face. ha, you canât cuss him out in camera!
âi just popped in to congratulate my co-worker on comeback!â he hummed and sat next to you, immediately leaning closer to the phone âhi everyone!â
you let out a defeated sigh and handed him the birthday themed glasses. he took them and put them on.
âjust donât disturb and i might give you a sliceâ you grunted and leaned closer to the screen to look for some questions.
your arms brushed slightly, sunghoon freezing flustered. he adored your focused profile when suddenlyâŠ
â"whatâs âradio silenceâ about?"â you read one of the questions. you hummed and leaned back, smiling softly âwell⊠while the title track, âback in vogueâ is more on the girlboss side⊠âradio silenceâ is uhmâŠâ
you felt sunghoonâs soft gaze lingering on you. you wondered if he listened to the album. to the song.
âitâs about silence after a break off with a person whom you loved. itâs emotional and edgyâ you cracked a smile and ignored his eyes on you âand⊠it means a lot to me. anywaysâ "hand in marriage?" when and where, baby?â
âewâ sunghoon scoffed and you just sent him a small smile.

What's your all-time favorite Bob's Burgers episode? Like this is YOUR episode? (You can list multiple if you want!)
ooo yes i will need multiple, i have like lil categories for my favs episodes;
like nostalgic, and just genuinely good, and then episodes i find really silly/have my favourite characters
'The Belchies', 'Bob Day Afternoon', 'Bob Fires the Kids' and, 'Sexy Dance Healing' are all episodes I can't decide which i saw first, as in my first episode of Bob's Burgers overall, they all feel a very special and kind of nostalgic and honestly? besides Sexy Dance Healing, they are all really classic episodes that kind of hold the edginess of season 1, but in a good way, and also just have really good well put together stories- as well as introducing/building on side-characters that will become staples to the series (not including Beverly and Cooper, mostly talking about Mickey and the kids' friend group)
Sexy Dance Healing is just a cool episode in the sense they bring attention to the chalk board and Bob's routine with it and him breaking that routine and how the family reacts to it? it's just a wonderful character/world building episode especially if you have been watching the show for a bit before seeing it
'Manic Pixie Crap Show' and 'Silence of the Louise' go up in my top favs bc 1) i LOVE MILLIE and 2) i love the movie silence of the lambs, but also I love louise's crisis about 'being a girl' in Manic Pixie Crap Show
'Amelia', 'The Amazing Rudy', 'Radio No You Didn't', 'Show Mama From The Grave' are all episodes that sort of break formula to tell a better story, Amelia is just... oof. The Amazing Rudy? to escape the Belchers and have a whole episode just on Rudy- and not just Rudy but to focus on his face the whole episode to be inside his head without any inner monologue or narration- it's powerful stuff. Radio No You Didn't is just straight up a cool episode- and I love the running gag of never really showing Bob's mom? Lily is finally in an episode and.... she's a baby the whole time. It's kind of genius? oh also his grandma fighting nazis is cool too. HAHA and to follow that up- I really didn't think they would actually show Lily's grave in 'Show Mama From The Grave' (ironically), I was expecting them never to find it and I want to believe there's a draft of the episode where they never reach her and it's just about how that's okay because Bob thinks of her all the time. But Linda being the one who found her? Bro I was sobbing, loudly, WILDLY.
'Vampire Disco Death Dance', 'Earsy Rider', 'V for Valentine-detta' are episodes that are silly but I feel very strongly about them- Earsy Rider is also one of the first episodes I ever saw, and I think it's so neat they did an episode so early on that addresses- but doesn't unpack- Louise's bunny ears. Also the introduction of some of my favourite background characters, the One Eyed Snakes and Critter (love his name. love that man.) and his partner Mud Flap. ("Aw my mother's name is Mud Flap!" "...Really?" "No, you are named after the dirty part of a car.")
and c'mon, who doesn't love V for Valentine-detta???? We get sweet sweet adorable family time with Linda and Tina and Louise- NAT?? THE INTRODUCTION OF NAT!!!! best character in the series, and probably the gayest Tina will ever be (next to her and Sage... Next to her and Dillon... next to-)
but my ultimate favourite episode of Bob's Burgers will always be, 'Thanks-Hoarding'. I love Teddy. Yes it hits home, yes I relate to him, YES the episode makes me cry, YES I THINK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME
YES I DID MAKE A YOUTUBE VIDEO ESSAY ABOUT IT LIKE 5 YEARS AGO!!!
YES I LOVE THAT EPISODE STILL (tears shirt off)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
anyway thank you for the question c:
honourable mentions: any episode with Gretchen. đ

NEWJEANS AS JEALOUS GFS HEADCANNONS
a/n: just a fun lil attempt at hcs since i rarely do them,, to whoever requested this, i hope u enjoy my attempt đ„č i'm sorry if they're not accurate jaldfadlfljdf
a/n 2: pics are not mine!! links to layouts used are listed below w respected @ <33
MINJI (pic/layout creds courtesy of @k1sseo)
so broâąïž
i think when minji gets jealous sheâs just quiet
and she could get a little snarky sometimes, but just a smidge
minji didnât expect to come home to you and hyein laughing your asses off at some random tiktok you were showing her
for some reason she was very bothered by it even tho you guys were naturally close
you kinda took awhile to notice her standing there but you once you did, you were quick to wrap your arms around her
sheâll play it off and act normal but sheâs def quiet and i think sheâd look like sheâs deep in thought about something
so when you ask her to do something with you, thatâs when light bulbs go off
âhey wanna go grab lunch laterâ âidk why donât you go with hyein insteadâ
then you drag her to lunch anyway and endlessly tease her for being jealous in the first place
you also tease her ab the fact that she got jealous over the YOUNGEST member đ like maâam, you think weâre gonna catch a case????
âi didnât press you for the jealous type broâ âjust shut up and eatâ
HANNI (pic/layout creds courtesy of @winuary)
every time i see/think of this girl sheâs always smiling
so i think when she gets jealous sheâll still be smiling but like itâs def forced and looks fake
or if sheâs not smiling then she 100% looks like this from that one live they did
either way that shit makes her stomach feel weird deep down
sheâll watch you and minji just monitoring your dance practice but you guys are just way too close together and minjiâs shoulders brush against yours and-
âhanni, you okay? youâve been zoning out for a whileâ and she just smiles again and plays it off
you knew something was up so when youâre back at the dorms thatâs when you ask her and she shyly admits that seeing you that close w minji made her feel uneasy
you kiss her forehead softly and tell her she has nothing to worry about before pulling her into bed and cuddling w her for the entire night (even if ur arm goes incredibly numb cuz girlie does not move an inch away from u)
DANIELLE (pic/layout creds courtesy of @i04rei)
dani wears her heart on her sleeve sheâs adorable
so yk sheâs jealous right away
you and hanni just came back from the mall and you are literally so happy
dani loves it when ur happy!! but it also makes her kind of sad that sheâs not the one making u laugh and smile like that :(
sheâs pouting while on her phone and u immediately take notice
âare u watching sad edits of cats again?â ânaURRRRâ
âyou just seem awfully happy when youâre w hanniâ âwell yes bc shes my friendâ more pouting and ur just trying not to melt at how cute she is
âhow about we go to our fav cafe tmrw after our sched and then we can go watch the barbie movie after?â âbut you donât like barbieâ âi donât like a lot of things but if you like them, then iâd be more than happy to do them with youâ
she just melts and forgets all ab what happened earlier
ft. hanni minji and hyein in the background trying not to gag out loud
HAERIN (pic/layout creds courtesy of @venitly)
radio silence.
sheâs already naturally quiet as is and she def does not speak her emotions compared to the others
so it takes you a little longer to figure out when sheâs jealous vs the other members
after finishing a movie w danielle, she just blankly watches the two of you have deep conversations ab it
and honestly you confuse her jealous silence for her normal silence at first
but you start realizing the difference when sheâs less affectionate with you (bc behind closed doors i think haerin is so affectionate like she deadass wont let go of you and is so touchy, needs to be holding you or be in close proximity w you)
âhaerin, are you okay?â and she just nods. girl pls give us something to work with
she never really openly admits that she was jealous of you and dani but ur smart genius self put two and two together and connected the dots when u saw she was quiet around dani too but not the others
but bc she never outwardly said it, you donât outwardly tell her not to worry or not to be jealous. instead you spend more time w her and getting her her fav snacks and whatnot and she appreciates it so much
haerin likes how you donât need to be told when something bothers her, and when you figure it out, you always knew how to make her feel better without words
actions do speak louder than words and haerin knows how true that is with you
HYEIN (pic/layout creds courtesy of @v-ico)
iâm gonna go for a platonic type of jealousy for hyein
she wanted to show u a new app she downloaded but u told her u were busy learning the new choreo from haerin
and she just whines
not like an annoying child throwing a tantrum kinda whine but just in a âwhy do u alw have sumn better to doâ typa way
when u finish w haerin ur quick to go back to the dorms to see hyein napping
and u lowk feel bad bc all she wanted to do was show u sumn
u decide to let her sleep but ur idiot self banged ur hand on her door while trying to close it and now u feel bad even more bc she woke up
âyouâre back alr unnie?â âyeah i came here quickly so you could show me the appâ
hyein is super excited even tho she jus woke up, and shes reaching for her phone and is tapping thru w such speed
you both spend hours on the app (i keep saying the app bc idk what kinda app it would be đ im thinking either a game or a photo filter app idk) before ur both scolded by minji for being on the phone all day
itâs literally giving when ur little sibling just wants to show u sumn cool but ur too busy and u feel bad

I just finished loveless by Alice oseman and it is a beautiful storyline. I found it harder to get into than some of her other books but by maybe the 4-5th chapter I was hooked!!đ
I think radio silence is still my fav tho đ€đ©”

For a prolific writer like you ( and I know you've got mad skills because I like a stalker went through your blog and with each ask you write good stuff, hitting the feelings right and all) do you have a book recommendation? Your discography of writing is so vast and profound and for each character ( and we all know there's 13 reactions you have to nail every time ,)you must have read an ocean fill to be deeply inspired to write this well.
Sincerely how the hell do you nail quality WITH quantity this well ?
In other words... you're Uhmazeing
first of all THANK YOU SO MUCH this literally made me go đ„°đ„Čđ„łđđđ„č. complements like these always make me shed a tear (in a good way ofc).
AND DO I HAVE A BOOK RECOMMENDATION??? OH HONEY I DO!!!! (literature and writing are basically my whole life).
you didn't specify which genre you're interested in so let me give you some options <3
CLASSICS
picture of dorian grey, dracula, psycho, animal farm, pride and prejudice, little women, the handmaidâs tale
CRIME/ MYSTERY
the only crime and mystery i enjoy reading is sir arthur conan doyle and agata christie, so sherlock holmes and hercules poirot is just chefs kiss (and their books are such wholesome, short, to the point novels that i canât imagine someone not liking them)
if i had to pick my fav tho âthen there were noneâ has to be one of my all time favourites, itâs so so good
FANTASY (ISH)
the song of achilles, the invisible life of addie larue, a court of thorns and roses, electric idol + radiant sin, the ex hex, kingdom of the wicked, these violent delights, serpent & dove
SPORTS SERIES
(F1) dirty air [donât get discouraged by the first book], (hockey) off-campus, (american football) the wall of winnipeg and me [not that huge fan of this in particular, but idk maybe you like american football]
OTHERS
the housekeeper and the professor, a little life, the secret history, if we were villains, a dowry of blood, little fires everywhere, radio silence + loveless
TIK TOK (it hurts me that a genre like that even exists)
twisted series, check & mate + the love hypothesis, the spanish love deception, love redesigned (an actually good tik tok(ish) book), kings of sin series, dreamland billionaires series, archerâs voice
i think thatâs the best i can do for now (and i realise that not all of those recommendations are masterpieces and classics of literature, but sometimes you just need a book with bad writing and poor plot).
i hope youâll find something for yourself! đ«¶đŒ
#finally my time to shine!#if you want any more specific recommendations let me know#books and reading#books & libraries

Whatâs your fav and least fav Oseman book? (My fav was Radio Silence and least was Loveless - just was underwhelmed idk)
This ask is so fun!
My favorite book by Alice is also Radio Silence. I think it really represents Alice coming into their own as a young writer. It's a passionately-written book inspired by the real disillusionment Alice had with her university experience and how the education system treats gifted kids. Compared to Solitaire, Radio Silence's characters were more diverse, and that diversity was integrated very seamlessly into the setting. I think Frances and Aled on their own are already very compelling characters, so their dynamic together is wonderful to read, fueled by mutual respect, appreciation, and artistic creativity. I also love both of their character designs and how much Alice emphasizes their distinct clothing choices and hairstyles, which makes them feel like real, expressive teenagers. I think the book also has the strongest narrative identity: it's not the amateur debut novel (Solitaire), it's not trying to teach the reader about aroaceness (Loveless), and it's not trying to impart lessons about fandom (IWBFT); it's a very character-driven novel fueled by human conflict, trauma, and complex relationships. It's also set over a long period of time, which adds depth to the story through strategically placed flashbacks and stretches out Frances and Aled's friendship and character arcs to a more realistic timespan. The podcast segments and certain scenes (like the entire few chapters where Frances is drunk at night and doesn't narrate reliably) also add a surreal, dreamy touch to the whole book that's so easy to get lost in, so I love it a lot.
My least favorite was actually I Was Born For This, mainly because it was hard for me to take a book about fandom and parasocial relationships as seriously as the story wanted me to. I really wanted to like this book for the Muslim representation especially, but Angel's character didn't make sense to me because I didn't believe that someone as smart and respectful as her to her idols would also be that invested in their lives; she'd have to be self-aware enough to realize sooner that her obsession wasn't healthy. I also felt like the themes fell flat compared to what Alice may have been trying to do with them. For example, the theme of religion where Angel is Muslim and Jimmy is Christian and the allegory of celebrities being "gods" that fans "worship," I felt like it didn't reach any satisfying conclusion. Angel's relationship with Islam wasn't explored as much as I would've liked; for example, in Radio Silence, Daniel and Frances have a conversation about feeling detached from their racial identities, but in IWBTF Angel never addresses how she reconciles queerness with her faith or acknowledges how she feels as a WOC in a very white, secular fandom space. I think RS and IWBTF showcase how Alice's writing changed pre and post-Heartstopper. It's more polished and mature, but because Heartstopper is so fluffy and optimistic, their later books lack the "bite" that their earlier works had that made them compelling.
Thank you so much for asking, seriously. I read all of Alice's books 1-2 years ago but haven't talked about them much on here yet, so thanks for giving me the opportunity to yap! đ
