Headcanon about Jean
Obviously, all of the characters in Inside Out have an absolute goal of being for Riley, but the question of why Jean pushed ahead with creating such a nightmare at the end has been raised. After thinking about this and that, Jean came to the conclusion that she was promoted to the head of Riley's Dream Factory while working at Riley's Mom or Dad's Dream Factory.
Paula has been dreaming since Riley was 2, with Jean holding a higher rank than her. This suggests that Jean existed before then. At the end of Dream Productions, we could see Paula promoted to the representative position. Since it is a case where a director is promoted to the representative position, we can infer that Jean must have been a director in the past, and we can also infer that there must have been many hits. This is a difficult achievement for Riley when she was 0-2 years old.
It can be noted that she is an 'Auntie'. It is the first time that a family relationship between the characters has appeared in an inside out work. (Of course, there is a content that Anxiety and Fear drew while imagining a cousin relationship, but it is an initial setting, so it does not exist now.) If so, it is the generation of parents of the characters working for Riley, so it can be assumed that she is actually in that relationship.
Other directors might not easily keep up with Riley's growing tastes. Only new directors Janelle and Xeni understood her so-called 'teenage-like' sensibility. But Jean has had her own definition of the craftsmanship that teenagers seek from the beginning, and she also demands it from other directors. It's as if she's saying, 'Teenagers will definitely be like this!' If so, Jean may have already been through someone's teenage years. This resembles what we call the older generation's view of puberty.
Upon hearing my claim, a friend of mine raised a question: 'Why did Jane push ahead with filming nightmares? In a different way than the characters in Inside Out, she must care Riley.' This is how I think about it. When Paula says that the nightmare will frustrate Riley and prevent her from going to the dance, Jean says she go when she becomes more mature. I think this is also the 'grown up' view. There are times when everyone gets older and is ashamed of their immature behavior. I think Jean must have really believed that Riley was not ready yet. And I think she didn't want to let Riley make a shameful history that she will remember in the future when she was not ready.
