Chapter 1.11: You Think To Much

I walked in from the bathroom and slowly layed across the bed. Taking deep breaths as I pondered why a day could not go by without me thinking about him. I can’t believe this, after all of these years I still feel like I’m betraying him. My eyes begin to water at the thoughts racing in my mind. Shit! I whispered, thinking why do I do this to myself. I yearned to not start crying. I began to quickly fan my face with my hands to make it stop. I spent to long putting this make-up on, was my only thought as I released a deep calming breath. I know you would- no, that’s a lie I was about to tell myself yet again. I knew he wouldn’t be ok with another man holding me, touching me…satisfying me the way he use to do. I can only imagine what he must be thinking of me because of the thoughts that take over when I’m near Grayson. It was supposed to be us. We, not me. But, your not here Levi I yelled out. I carefully wiped a stray tear from my cheek. I’ve worked so hard on trying to become happy and whole again. Levi…I really like Grayson and I need you to be ok with this. I haven’t felt this way in a very long time. I need your blessing…I need you to let me go.

 ** 1 hour later **

 I hastily put my cup in the sink once I heard the door bell ring. I gave myself one last glance in the mirror and nearly tripped over a bucket of tools left by the contractor. I gained my composure and calmly looked out of the window to see Grayson waiting patiently. Without hesitation I opened the door and eagerly greeted him with a nonchalant, “Hi there.” He responded with a sultry, “Bonsoir belle, you look lovely” as he handed me a single white rose.

I bowed my head bashfully, trying to avoid eye contact and replied with a sincere, “Thank you, you look very handsome yourself.” I excidtedly accepted and smelled the rose that he had given me. “Are you ready to go?” he asked. I turned to grab my purse and secured the front door. “All set, let’s go” I responded. Grayson opened the passenger side door for me to take a seat. He firmly closed my door and made his way to the drivers side. He quickly started the engine and we appeared to be headed in the direction of the city.

“I made reservations at Matisse in San Myshuno. Have you ever been there?” he questioned. I replied with an impressed, “No, but I’ve heard the food is esquisite and worth the outrageous prices.” Grayson let out a deep chuckle as he asked, “Do you always worry about money? You seem to be doing pretty good for yourself.” In a more serious tone I responded, “No, I don’t always worry about money. I like nice things just as much as anyone but I like it better when its on sale.” I playfully nudged him and we began to laugh in unison.

We arrived at the restaurant nearly thirty minutes later. The ride was filled with miscellaneous chit-chat as I was still trying to suppress my feelings and nervousness. I also sang along softly to a few songs on the radio as I looked out of the window. Grayson didn’t seem to protest, although I did catch him glance my way several times with the impression that he wanted to talk but chose otherwise. Grayson approached the maitre’d to announce our arrival and we were quickly escorted to our table. “Wow! How much did you tip the maitre d’ for this table?” I said jokingly. The entire restaurant was posh, but this area was secluded and dripping in exclusivity. “Nothing but the best for my little cheapskate,” he replied as he playfully winked his eye at me. We looked over the menu and gave the waiter our choices. Grayson ordered a fine wine that would compliment both of our entrees.

Each dish was presented like a masterpiece on a plate and tasted even better than it looked. We savored every morsel of our meal and engaged in a much deeper conversation between bites. As we both finished up our meal Grayson had our wine refilled. “I’m glad your feeling better” he stated before taking a slow sip of his wine. “What do you mean? I feel fine” I replied puzzled and acting unaware of his apparent observations. He continued with a more concerned tone, “Really? You seemed a bit off earlier. I didn’t want to say anything but, I don’t know… you just seemed more nervous than usual. Were you? Nervous?” Before I could respond he added, “I mean I do realize that this is our first official date and all” making air quotes as he smiled gently.

I immediately understood and tried to shake the remaining trace of anxiety as I tenderly placed my hand on top of his. “I apologize. My mind was somewhat preoccupied earlier, but I assure you I’m fine now.” I tilted my head slightly to gain access to his smokey gray eyes and delivered a reassuring gaze. I thought to myself while taking a deep breath and caressing his supple yet muscular hand, “I cannot tell him what was really wrong yet. Oh good lord, he is so perfect…scratch that he is beyond perfection. I can do this, I want to do this. Those eyes….lips….his hands…his hands are huge….” I was brought back to reality as I finally heard him calling my name.

I hurriedly pulled my hand back and became flushed with embarrassment. I looked up to see Grayson grinning at me as he stated, “I think I lost you there for a minute.” He quickly declared, “So, listen the night is still young and I have somewhere special for us to go.” I reciprocated his excitement and confirmed, “I’m down for whatever you want” as I grasped the handles of my purse. Grayson looked at me with a lustful glare on his face, “Whatever I want?” he whispered seductively. “Ok maybe not whatever, but yeah lets go” I coyly retorted. 

Grayson paid the bill, personally thanked the staff for their service, and we headed over to the Fashion District. He took my hand and lead me into the middle of The Romance Festival. We explored some of the exotic flowers which can only be found at the festival, we viewed and admired some of the artwork that was on exhibit, and we even tried the infamous Sakura Tea. It’s rumored that the tea heightens the senses and lowers inhibitions.

Grayson ventured towards a nearby bench and gestured for me to sit next to him. I quickly obliged and sat down. “Is the tea working? Am I sexy yet?” were the words he spoke while rapidly raising his eyebrows up and down at me. I laughed hysterically and honestly replied “I don’t think you need this tea to be sexy!” He gingerly held my hand between the two of his before speaking candidly, “Cherish, I want to be totally open and honest with you.” He stared deep into my eyes, as to gain access to my soul before continuing, “I really like you. I mean like really, really like you. My gut tells me that you feel the same but I need to hear it. I need to know that were on the same page and want the same things.”

My mind began to race as I asked, “What is it that you want, Grayson?” Without hesitation he responded, “I want it all! But mostly I want someone to share it with. I’m ready to focus on my personal life now. My business is doing well, but I still feel a void. I’m done looking for the one. Cherish, I was done looking the first day we met.” 

“You definitely don’t beat around the bush do you?” I said. “This is a lot Grayson. You don’t even know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through.” He responded in a low husky tone, “I do know you Cherish and I’m not trying to replace your past or anyone from it. I’m trying to live in the now and possibly build a future.” I lowered my guard, “Grayson, I really do like you. I just need to take things slow, that’s all. I appreciate your honesty and its not my intent to discourage you. But, I am still a work in progress.”

He smiled and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “Maybe it’s you that doesn’t seem to know me. I am not easily discouraged and I am a very patient man when it’s something or in this case someone worth waiting for.” I allowed his words to penetrate my psyche as I got lost in his intense gaze.

MONTHLY MEDIA: April 2017

This is how I spent the month of April!

……….FILM……….

The Wrong Guy (1997) I loved everything about this movie. Everything was so silly and yet 95% of the characters are played so straight that it just makes the comedic bits that much funnier. So good. 

Get Out (2017) I admit that I read the synopsis before seeing it because it’s the only way I could survive a horror film. Though in hindsight, it really felt like more of a suspense or thriller. With that said, I loved every minute and it still scared the hell out of me.

The Love Witch (2016) What a fascinating movie. There’s an interesting dissection of romance, relationships, and gender underneath the 70s aesthetic but I can’t help but feel like I missed another 2 or 3 layers of the plot. I mean I think I liked it? Parts of it? All of it? I dunno but I’d definitely watch it again.

……….TELEVISION……….

Riverdale (Episode 1.02 to 1.11) In watching this show I’ve learned that I don’t like romance while murders are being solved. Everything else about this show is perfect.

Crashing (Episode 1.01 to 1.02) If you listen to You Made it Weird then you’ll probably know the main beats of the show, but I don’t really think that’s a bad thing? I mean it’s not a documentary. Also I never knew just how uncomfortable comedians bombing made me feel.

Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (Complete) Amazing. It’s scarier than I expected and equally as abstract. It’s a tight read and I think the trade off to that was that I didn’t get a great sense of distance. There’s a lot of exploration but I would’ve loved if it allowed itself to go off and detail the setting a little more. I’ll definitely be rereading this. 

Johannes Cabal: The Fear Institute by Jonathan L. Howard (Complete) In rereading this I finally got to pick up on the “clues” to some of the twists that this book is full of and it made for a super enjoyable experience. I really can’t stress enough how much I love this series and I hope Howard’s short stories featuring Cabal will get collected and printed someday.

Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton (Complete) I love this picture book/comic hybrid to bits. I think I would’ve gotten into D&D waaaaaaay sooner had this been on my bookshelf as a kid. There’s treasure, monsters, fetch quests, and everything else my 11 year old (and 30 year old) mind adores. Plus it’s beautiful as hell.

Plastic Beach by Gorillaz (2010) I somehow skipped this album back when it was released but with Humanz now out, I figured I’d go back and hot damn is it great! I’m glad I waited cause I don’t think 2010 me would’ve appreciated this.

Homecoming (Podcast) Such a great radio drama! It’s a tight 6 eps and has a super great cast so go listen to it. There’s a little mystery, a little humour, and just a whole lot of great aural storytelling.

S*Town (Podcast) This is a podcast of zigs and zags. It kinda meanders and has a wrap up that’s similar to season 1 of Serial, but I guess that’s just the way with real-life stories. Also I loved it.

……….GAMING……….

Sushi Go! (Gamewright) This was so much fun! It was super easy to pick up and it’s the sort of game that can scale with the players’ strategic skills. Plus I just found a version for up to 8 players!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo) Amazing. With a little help from an online map I’ve found all of the shrines (just locations, not how to complete them) and even so I’m STILL discovering new stuff. I didn’t love the final boss design (or those motion-control puzzles) but they’re mere blips compared to all of the great things about the game.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen (Wizards of the Coast) It’s been a while since we’ve continued our recon mission but this week saw our group’s first player death! It was dramatic and has really fractured the party so I’m not sure what the future holds.

Dungeons & Dragons Homebrew Campaign (Wizards of the Coast) The party is still dealing with a zombie hoard that seems to roam the city streets at night and soon they’ll discover the source!
