New Itch Games for April & May
Been quiet on here but I'm back now!
It’s the itch.io round-up of new games! Now coming to you once every two months because that sounds easier. Usual disclaimer: This comes from be browsing itch.io and people self-submitting through the form. I haven’t played these games and mostly am just going by how interesting they sound to me. Okay, let’s go:
The Hollow Queen: This is a GM-less horror game from Venezuelan designer, Felix Rios, about a dark force haunting the streets and the people trying to uncover it. It uses the diceless Ten Coins system and is available in Spanish.
Contact: A game where you use a music playlist and tarot cards to play through a story about trying to make contact with aliens. I think the idea is that the songs contain encoded messages from the aliens, which is a neat reversal of the Voyager Golden Record. By j strautman.
Tangled Blessings: This is a solo dark fantasy game set in a magic school. It’s a solo/duet game, building on Anamnesis by Sam Leigh. You explore the secrets of this weird school while dealing with a rival who’s making your life difficult. Designed by Cassi Mothwin.
Strike Force Omega: This is LUMEN game about science-fantasy supersoldiers coming back for one last stand, defending their homes in a time of war. By Chris Longhurst, designer of See Issue X and Pigsmoke.
Thirty Foes (OR Once again, we are defeated): In a similar premise, but much more focused on the drama rather than tactics, this is Seven Samurai but cosmic cowboys. They sling cosmic power and defend against bandits. And they’re probably going to die. From Rat Wave Game House.
Thief and Druid: Two games from Stéphanie Dusablon. Both are solo games with an optional journaling element. Thief uses the Push system and Druid uses the Firelights system. I’m not sure if this is a series that will expand to all the D&D classes but it’s a neat idea.
Skyrealms: This is a fantasy bestiary, setting, and solo adventure game about three floating islands in the misty heights, full of secrets and strange creatures. It’s from Iko and Armanda Haller. You can also use the bestiary as a colouring book apparently!
In The Blind: This is a sci-fi horror game about working class people trying to do their job and instead facing the darkness of space. This is a free preview and showcases how good Riley Daniels, designer of As The Sun Forever Sets, is at visual design.
Queenless: This is another Firelights game from solo game blog, Croaker RPGs. You play as members of the hive, exploring the world and protecting your home from destruction.
When Prophecy Fails: Nick Wedig makes a game about cultists and what happens when their foreseen apocalypse doesn’t happen. I’ll give you a hint: they often get even more radical. Based on the For the Queen. (PWYW)
The Score: Tin Star Games GM-less storygame where you tell a heist movie in 18 minutes using 18 cards.
SDM: Eternal Return Key: Luka Rejec follows up Ultraviolet Grasslands with a full OSR-style rulset and more weird setting. It has the same much-loved psychadelic vibe from the original and there’s a free art-less version as well.
the city begins to exist: A citybuilding game with some solid prompts. I can always use more citybuilding games! Designed by kay w.

[TL] BIOHAZARD/Chapter 1
[ This post uses Ois~su ♪ ]
Season: Winter
Time: Flashback. Middle of February, the first year of ES’s establishment
Location: RhythmLink Office
Rei: This is a grave set of circumstances.
Recently, there has been a considerable loss of UNDEAD fans.
Though we have been on the decline for some time, now the numbers are showing that too. In the number of people attending our lives, CD sales, merch items, and many more.
Kaoru: Eh, really?
That’s surprising~... From my personal experience, I feel like since Yumenosaki fans still get all excited at fan sign events and stuff.
I don’t think we’re losing customers per say, more that our clientele is changing, right? Now in ES, we take part in a lot of variety shows that even kids can enjoy.
Kids have to make do with allowance their parents give them, they can’t exactly fork out a bunch to buy live tickets and CDs—
So if you look at the overall, it just looks like sales are going down, right?
Koga: Eeh, even though you’re stupid rich, you still get how the average person lives.
Kaoru: Hey, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. My parents are pretty strict, you know.
Adonis: Fufu. The reality is, we’ve been in the business so long we’ve become numb to it.
If you are a child, the price for live tickets is most likely far too expensive for them.
If you pester your parents over it, they’ll just become more and more firm in their decision.
Kaoru: Yupyup. They’ll be like “I’m not buying you silly things like that, just google a picture of them!”
Adonis: Is that what your parents said to you?
Kaoru: Not those words exactly, but pretty much, yeah. When I told them I wanted to go to an idol training school, they gave me a lot of flak for it.
Rei: We’ve strayed a little off topic but- whilst what Kaoru-kun said is true, we cannot ignore that sales are floundering.
To put it bluntly, the current UNDEAD is on the wane.
Koga: That’s exactly why I was against it! Goin’ on those lively variety shows don’t suit our personas at all!
Wish we’d just stuck to making cool music ‘cos maybe then—
Adonis: But if that was the case, UNDEAD would have been overthrown at an earlier point for being idols that aren’t current nor can read the room.
No, it’s more than that, it’s because our senpais purposefully signed up for a variety show that would make Oogami seem like an idiot.
Rei: It is more that we simply wanted to do that work, that’s all. As Koga quite rightly said, we are responsible for the situation we are in.
Koga: D-damn. It’s pretty weird for you to be so upfront ‘bout your faults.
Rei: Well, there’s no use being obtuse about it. No matter what shameful behaviour I get up to nowadays, no-one will grow to hate me…♪
Kaoru: Ahaha. I normally hate that kind of arrogance~, but since it’s true it pisses me off even more ♪
There’s been times in the past where you’ve immediately gone “that’s my responsibility”. If there’s a problem with UNDEAD, it’s a problem for all of us. Don’t try to deal with it all on your own, ‘kay?
Adonis: I agree. There are times where Sakuma-senpai acts like that. But we are not children who cannot undertake responsibility.
Koga: Yeah yeah, whenever you pull shit like that it makes me seriously pissed~♪
Rei:Oh? So what I'm hearing is that you all hate me more than I thought you did...?
Kaoru: We’re lecturing you because we like you. If we hated you, we’d just ignore you.
Rei: Hm… Anyhow, to return to what we were talking about, the cause of this whole thing is because we were not clear in our attitude.
UNDEAD was originally a unit that sang exclusively about immoral and radical themes via rock ‘n roll.
However as of late, we have been taking part in variety programs that emphasise friendliness which goes in opposition to our true nature.
We’ve created an environment where people say “Oh? UNDEAD looks scary to approach but they're actually surprisingly easy to talk to?”
But because of that sort of work we’ve been able to expand our clientele…
Those who have loved UNDEAD since the beginning are probably feeling disillusioned.
Koga: Ain’t we got our priorities twisted? We shoulda payed more attention to the so-called hardcore fans.
-And not the new “oooh so cute” new fans who think they know us just from watchin’ those variety shows.
Rei: Well, both are just as important as the other.
Of course we must treasure those fans who have been with us since the beginning, however if we do not gain new fans, their interest will fizzle out like sparklers.
That is how it goes in the idol industry, nay, in all of the entertainment industry.
It’s not as simple as, if you work as hard as you can, you’ll succeed and everyone will love you for eternity.

GUYS I'm back AGAIN with a music thought because ough sad and I want to do some drawings with the lyrics so bad,,
Consider: Always Gold by Radical Face for the twins
Because majority of the lyrics fit so well for Krux's perspective?? You know what heres the entire first bit of lyrics
"We were tight-knit boys Brothers in more than name You would kill for me And knew that I'd do the same And it cut me sharp Hearing you'd gone away But everything goes away Yeah, everything goes away But I'm going to be here 'til I'm nothing But bones in the ground"
And this bit is more specific for my au, but this part of the song as Acronix's perspective?? Ow
"But I am fine with where I am now This home is home and all that I need But for you, this place is shame But you can blame me when there's no one left to blame Oh, I don't mind"
Context for my au- Acronix does blame himself for continuing to hurt the twins reputation in the modern era, as his anger over the time blades made him more violently lash out at Kai and Nya when they met, and eventually later in the museum. When Krux is revealed as Dr.Saunders, this made everyone (Especially Kai and Nya) immediately distrustful of him because of Acronix’s prior actions. Krux is upset over their legacy as villains in the modern era, and wants to go back in time and change it, though Acronix wants to stay in the modern era and fix it in real time.

from Lesbian Connection November/December 2002: Volume 25 Issue 3
photo from kaygardner.com
the obituaries is a section i usually flip right past in every Lesbian Connection magazine, but when I stumbled into this one it gave me pause. i never met Kay Gardner, but she is incredibly special to me. the womyn who holds song circles for my group learned about song circles from Kay, and makes a point to honor her in each circle. singing Kay's songs fills me with love and pride, the lesbian kind. she spent her life traveling around the world, teaching about the healing properties of music and love. she reminds me that singing is a radical act. she is an inspiration to me and my sisters. thank you Kay.

Talking about my musical choices for Splatoon 4 and what I wanted for the next game in this franchise
General context:
The music from Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 in multiplayer:
An undeniable fact is that Splatoon would probably be better off in the hands of SEGA directors, taking into consideration Jet Set Radio and most of the Sonic games, just seeing the soundtrack of both games that fit into Multiplayer and Story Mode, since Rock with Sonic Adventure to Jazz punk and acoustic instruments with Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, or even more ambient music and the totally surreal sounds of Hero Mode, with Hideki Naganuma's Sounds in Jet Set Radio. Even more so, the urban culture theme of Jet Set Radio would be perfect for Splatoon 4, as this is not as well explored and seen in Splatoon 2
Pizza Tower Soundtrack:
In addition to the Goofy sounds and good rhythms, a sound like "Bye Bye There" being the final farewell to humanity and to Splatoon 1 itself would be ideal to replace the same massive plot of Idol songs played at every holy end of the game. The Noise Update Soundtrack for Salmon Run fits Salmonids' Spicy Little Gremlins personality, perhaps "World WIde Noise" would be a great theme for Salmonlings if we get that one day
Jet Set Radio/Bomb Rush Cyberfunk in Hero Mode:
"The Concept Of Love" is a good choice to be in the style of "Shark Bytes" and "Hide and Sleek" but much more punk, "Sneakman", "Fly Like A Butterfly" and "Teknopathetic" are good to play in confrontations against Rival Octolings (Although I wanted more of Inklings and Octolings in general, without the cliche of Rival Octoling Hair, which would be good to have available as available hair for an Octoling), and some separate aspects as something for more nocturnal activities , like "watchyaback!" and "Electric Tooth Brush", something in the style of "Nine Out Of Tension" and "Tentacular Circus", as well as "Right There, Ride On", sounds for stages with a focus on Ink Rails being something like "Ride Of Fry", as well as "Feel The Funk", and other specific things
Most memorable areas:
Some songs from Sonic CD I included because I wanted more memorable areas, this would serve to make the hero mode more memorable, just like Sonic was a classic era, it would bring more memories to those who play the game, that's why songs like "Metallic Madness" or "Spring Yard", something that was variable where each sector has its specific challenges and its focus that could vary between puzzles, speed, quick thinking or just stopping to appreciate the level design
Agent 4 and his "Endless Possibilities" :
Most people are probably thirsty for Agent 4 in the next Splatoon, I'm the type who compares Agent 3 with Shadow, so such an emotional sound for a final battle like "Endless Possibilities" would be perfect for a face-to-face fight against Agent 4, especially considering what this song is about
The Idols of the next game:
I thought a lot about a group of 4 idols, to finally be able to put at least two men to break the standard of women, in addition to putting more songs from that party atmosphere with Funky rhythm like something like "Soda City Funk" and "Next To Me " as the main theme, in addition to electronic breakbeat rhythms from Hideki Naganuma for Turf Wars such as "GET ENUF" and "Never 4ever", or even classic video montage types. EXE" such as "YO-KAI Disco" and " Radical City: Living In The City" (by the way, Sonic R's OST would be a good inspiration as it is this fast and energetic House Music). My choices come from the fact that I wanted an aesthetic that ranges from POP of the 90s and EDM of the 2000s, with its members inspired by classics from those times.
Bands in general:
We would probably have a continuation of Punk Rock, but I would prefer something more Industrial Rock, a style of music more like "Boarder 70" and "Rhythm and Balance... for White Jungle". There could be exploration of genres such as Breakbeat with acoustic Jazz instruments, such as "Windmill Isle" and "Sweet Mountain", Big Band as in the Team Fortress 2 OST but more similar to the community remixes. The band "Chirpy Chips" could adopt a style from Scott Pilgrim's OST or HI-FI Rush, and could expand these genres to remix the already famous songs in Splatoon
...if I have the option to have Octoling Rival Hair, I'll be happy enough

Listed: Nightshift
Nightshift, from Glasgow, occupies the softer, dreamier end of the post-punk spectrum. The debut full-length, Zöe, got our attention in 2021 with its tight, pinging chords and airy ethereality. Jennifer Kelly wrote, “It is hardly a punk album at all on some levels, and yet it also is, just gauzier and more inferential.” The band has since expanded to a four-piece and produced a second album, Homosapien, which we liked as well, noting “a crisper, more rock-band-ish iteration of Nightshift’s dreamy, surreal punk.” Here the band members (Andrew Doig, Rob Alexander, Eothen Stearn and Chris White) describe some of their favorite things in music, books and film.
Andrew Doig
Bedmaker — S/t
My music choice is Bedmaker’s debut album on Dischord Records featuring the legendary Amanda MacKaye on vocals, some agitated and tight post punk with a classic Washington DC flavor.
Jeff Noon — Vurt
I have chosen the book Vurt by Jeff Noon cuz I love this Manchester influenced cyberpunk weirdness, it’s a refreshing northern England style take on Neuromancer type vibes.
Rob Alexander
Lily Paine — Between Silence and Speech
Between Silence and Speech is a brilliant and inspiring book of poetry and illustrations by Glasgow artist Lily Paine; I read it most days. There’s a really good film on YouTube (LILY - a medical documentary) by a medical student called Will Nutter about this artist.
L — Marilyn Monroe — All of Us
The debut album from Glasgow band L on Radical Documents is a jaw-dropping, mind-melted magic poetry rock virtuosos’ trip. They’ve got Jack Mellin, a legendary guitarist from Glasgow who has been part of the Nightshift at some point too.
R.Aggs
Our great friend Ray (R.Aggs) who contributed fiddle to Homosapien, fronts some amazing bands, Sacred Paws, Trash Kit and Shopping, and has two amazing solo records out that are uniquely uplifting and beautiful, each with banger following banger. I didn’t sleep well last night and woke up thinking that I didn’t like music anymore; listening to this has brought me back to life!
Eothen Stearn
Kai Cheng Thom — Falling Back in Love with Being Human
This book was recommended to me by a colleague who runs the anti-racist library at Woodlands Community. I had been discussing feelings of being overwhelmed and a desire to reconnect with the world, and she suggested this book. It’s an amazing collection, a mixture of short excerpts and vignettes, each accompanied by a small invitation. For instance, one might invite you to visit a place you’ve never been, or to write a letter to yourself. These invitations are often inward-facing, but some are like spells, encouraging reconnection with the world and finding small joys.
The author, a sex worker and trans woman, writes from a decolonizing perspective. The book is not just a series of stories; it’s interactive, with each short piece followed by an invitation, creating a rhythm almost like a metronome. I read it while on holiday, and it came at a perfect time. I’m grateful for its existence.
Grave Goods — Tuesday Nothing Exists
Manchester and Dublin power duo who take you on a journey. I’m really inspired by the sound and rhythms of the Grave Goods album. The lyrics are great, with a spoken word element and excellent timing. The music feels raw and exciting.
Robyn Rocket — Love EP
Some of you might be familiar with Robyn Rocket. Robyn, an instrumentalist who plays the trumpet, is a pioneer for neurodiverse musicians, being neurodiverse herself. She has been featured in The Wire magazine and is actively working to make spaces more accessible for neurodiverse individuals. Robyn is heavily involved with Heart n Soul in London, an amazing charity, and she also programs her night, Robyn Rocket, at Cafe OTO. She plays in various projects, including Dean Rodney Jr. and the Cowboys.
I love her collaborative approach, and her latest record features contributions from many people. Her work has a cosmic quality, both in her music and her illustrations. I’m thrilled that she’s receiving the recognition she deserves.
Chris White
Rob Churm — The Stone Tape — Posters 2001 – 2023
Rob Churm’s poster book is a great look at some of his art, featuring bands and venues from the past 20 years in Glasgow. It name-checks many of the venues and musicians I’ve seen since moving here in 2005 and features numerous previous bands that Nightshift members and contributors have been involved in. It’s a great one to look through, and the markings and colors look amazing. It also includes the first Nightshift gig poster, which has us on the bill with my next recommendation.
Alfred Bellman — Congregate
This is, for me, the sound and vibe of our last shared studio space, where Nightshift recorded most of our releases so far. For years, I’d show up at the door and hear this guy blasting out space-age psych jazz fusion — drones, drums, hymn-like verses, raps, and basslines. His first cassette album was put out by Doig on his Cusp label, the same label as our first Nightshift tape. This new one was put up on Bandcamp at the end of last year. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays trombone on our new album and drums in Rob’s other band, Radio Banter. His music is great and deserves more listeners, I reckon. Check it out!

[INTERVIEW] Kai - 230315 British GQ: “EXO's Kai on freeing himself from his legacy in new album Rover “
"Following 2020's self-titled debut and 2021s Peaches, EXO's main dancer and K-pop ace is back.
In the run-up to the release of his third album Rover, Kai released a set of promotional images dressed as an angel, complete with a pair of plump, white feathered wings. With signature abs on show in low-slung jeans, the 29-year-old's angular features are softened by frosted glitter and his dark hair is combed down over his forehead in a boyish mop. The next day, he dropped a second lot of pictures in the same ethereal garb, but with an altogether eerier vibe. Less youthful, his gelled hair, sunken eyes and bleached eyebrows gave the appearance of something unearthly, like a fallen angel haunted by his own demise.
“It’s not easy to show two sides of myself within one concept," Kai, whose real name is Kim Jongin, says over a video call from Seoul. It's typical of the softly-spoken star, whose eyes often get lost in the corners of the room as he answers questions, though ironic considering the concept of duality has followed him like a shadow for more than a decade. Since his debut as the lithe dancer of record-breaking group EXO in 2012, it’s a term that's been used to describe his ease in inhabiting a whole new personality on stage.
“I really like the image [of] the wings,” he reflects, adding that the core theme of the album is about being unburdened by pressure and seeking a freedom that “depends solely on those wings”. Rather than leaning back on the past, and all the ways that he has been split apart, Rover is a re-introduction of Kai as a multifaceted whole.
To know Kai now is to know Jongin, who, to anyone who was only aware of him as a performer (first in EXO, then later SuperM and as a solo star), might feel more like his alter-ego than the other way around. Where Kai can oscillate effortlessly between an intrinsic sensuality, Herculean power and threatening intensity, Jongin remains steadfast in his gentle demeanour. When we speak, his hair is dyed icy blonde and he sits in the meeting room of his record label, SM Entertainment, with the slightly curled-in posture of someone still not totally used to being alone in the hot seat. “I didn’t want to be too stubborn about a specific genre”, he says about the 6-track R&B album, adding, “I thought about portraying varying genres, performances and music through Kai.” He speaks of Kai less like the stage persona he’s inhabited since the age of 18, and more like a vessel, the ornamental shell that houses him as an artist.
Through the music video for the record’s eponymous, reggaeton-tinged lead single, he explores that idea literally. He acts out a spy-like scenario that sees him burn through fake IDs with false names and headshots of past eras, before landing on one in the here and now with the pseudonym Elliot Billy. It’s a pointed reference to the inspiration of his childhood ballerino ambitions, the first stepping stone in his lifelong love of movement. In a final set-piece, like some multiversal glitch, his backing dancers cut between balaclava-ed breakdancers and tutu-ed ballerinas, a glimpse of Jongin through Kai.
“I have always felt that, especially with a job like this, I do tend to pay attention to how other people see me, and to what they talk about," he says. "But even within that, I make an effort to find what I want to do and what I like. And doing this, I think, really is freedom." Letting go of preconceptions may not seem like a radical act, but in an industry as cutthroat as K-pop, forging your own path requires an enormous amount of self-belief.
“These days, through social media, it’s easy to look into people’s lives right?” he continues. “We keep doing that, and then one day, instead of focussing on what you truly treasure and like, you start worrying about how other people think and start following what others like. So I worked on this album with the hope that, by breaking away from such things, I would find true freedom. And I think I want to be like that [in real life] as well.”
What does freedom in real life look like to Kai? It starts, first and foremost, with being present. It’s dedicating time to the things he enjoys, and the mundanities that form his daily rituals. “Happiness can be considered trivial,” he says. “It’s just doing what you like. [But] I do think that feeling happiness within the smallest of things might be true happiness. But just to feel that little something, I think you need to put in a lot of effort.” He admits that the goalposts move each year in terms of what brings him joy, but right now, it’s simplicity. “These days I use public transport a lot, or I walk a lot. I try to just let time pass by.”
Over the last decade, Kai has become one of high-fashion’s biggest players, going from brand darling to official Gucci muse, complete with a 2021 capsule collection designed around his signature teddy bear motif, in just a few short years. Despite the osmosis of curation, however, he personally prefers to go with the flow. “I really change my style often according to my moods – my hair colour, my mood that day, or even just the order in which my clothes were hung [in the closet]. So even when I go out, I never plan my outfits beforehand,” he says. The closet he casually mentions is, conservatively, about the size of a small flat (as well as a separate wardrobe in his bedroom just for pyjama sets: “I also think that’s one of the best things I’ve done,” he chuckles proudly) and packed to the rafters with designer goods he refuses to take the tags off for fear he might need to sell them one day.
For Kai, the upcoming milestone of 11 years in the industry with EXO is momentous, considering so few of their early contemporaries have reached it. The unit is still one of the most successful groups in history, amassing an early and lasting fandom that is exceptional even in the current era, where standom reigns supreme. Still, 2012 looks a lot different to 2023, especially when that t spreads from early adulthood to the advent of your thirties. So would Kai, knowing what he does now, give his younger self any advice? “You’re doing a great job. So just keep doing what you’re doing”, he says after a moment of shy consideration. He takes the task seriously, speaking in hushed tones to be gentle with his former self. “This is what I want to tell him because I am quite satisfied with how things are now, and I feel like the past 10 years are what made the Kai of today.”
After a brief pause, he nods as if proud of being able to say it. “I really like the Jongin that I am right now.”
Rover is just the start of a busy 2023. Next comes a long-anticipated reunion with EXO. While the group have maintained a mercurial structure of sorts, this year offers a brief reprieve where none of the members are in the military. “All the members are gathering after a really long time, so we are really looking forward to the fact that we can put out another album too,” he says, revealing that prep work has already begun.
“We are not that worried about what the results of this comeback would bring, or what goal we need to achieve," he says. "I’m really looking forward to this year. I think that there will be more happy memories that will remain, so much so that we may even forget the older [happy] memories. I want the fans to know this as well.”
While EXO's return is at the forefront of his mind, he's got other adventures on his mind, too. “One of the biggest goals in my life is living in London for a year. It’s my main goal,” he says, echoing a statement he’s repeated for years now. “The weather is bad,” I tell him as I point to the gloomy view out my window in possibly the most glaring example of British pessimism I can inadvertently muster. But even before the translator can jump in he shakes his hands and says he doesn’t mind. What it is about the city that’s captured his fancy for so long is unclear. Maybe it’s the culture, steeped in musical history like his icon David Bowie, whose portrait hangs pride of place in his home. Or maybe it’s his beloved Chelsea FC, the football team he devotes his time to and, by his own admission, helps him understand the nature of his own fandom. “I believe that you’re a true fan when you’re supporting them even when they’re not doing well. I’ve learnt from how my fans have shown me love. So as a dear fan, I will cheer for Chelsea,” he says, sighing and downtrodden. He cradles his head in his hands to stifle an embarrassed giggle, a gesture instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever longed to be asked to talk about their obsessions but simultaneously dreaded that they might actually have to do it.
If the first 11 years of Kai as an artist have been about figuring out how much of himself to give the world, the release of Rover and beyond kick off a future where those boundaries hopefully hold less importance. Kai is happy for the world to know Kim Jongin, especially as that exterior softens over time. “My dream is to do all this as much as possible,” he says, his eyes fixed firmly on the camera like the rituals of a pact. “And for as long as I can.””

tagged by @ariapmdeol, I love tag games, ty for the tag
shuffle your on repeat playlist and list the first 10 songs, then tag 10 people (I feel like this is a really bad time to do this considering the Kojey Raidcal brainrot, but we'll see)
No Confusion - Ezra Collective (ft. Kojey Radical) - well, as I said, the Kojey addiction is real. Love the beat in this one, the jazzy tune in the background is real good. Great vibes. The lyrics are simple but catchy, they work real great here
Bad After We - Shy Fx (ft. Kojey Radical & Ghetts) - yup, another one. Funnily, my favorite verse of this one's not Kojey's - I just really like the delivery on that "Came from the bottom of the swamp (Bouh kai)" line. Good shit
Can't Go Back - Kojey Radical - I'm not doing this on purpose, y'know. Probably my favorite of his tbh. The flow is insane, the beat is breathtaking, has some real nice lyrics. Love the trump solo. Unreal song.
Sindhu Sesh - Patrick Karneigh Junior - KILL A MAN FOR THE PAYCHECK. PUT A POLE IN HIS BACK, GAY SEX.
Phases - Solomon (ft. Kojey Radical) - back to this, aye. It's pretty good, I like Kojey's verse the most by far. Not to say I don't enjoy the rest, he just comes in at a very good time to interrupt the slow singing with a more aggresive rap at a faster time signature and it ties the whole thing together real nice imo
Cashmere Tears - Kojey Radical - it's good. I definitely like the intro the least, especially with how long it takes, but the first verse is REALLY nice, definitely redeems him. "Emotional type, emotional light/Emotion in motion ocean is colder at night" has real good flow.
Hustle - Sons of Kemet (ft. Kojey Radical) - brilliant song. Unlike anything I ever heard. Truly perfect. "You could test my spirit, just not today/I got demons on my back and a lot on my plate/Someone tell 'em back, back, I got something to say/First they love you, then they hate you, then it's part of the game" is a BANGER verse.
Like What - Joey Valence & Brae - from the beautiful minds behind Punk Tactics, woe, another banger. It feels fresh af, despite some recognizable influences from ye older rap (when I first found them through Punk Tactics I assumed they were some hidden gem from the 90s, not a song released last year(?), which is the greatest compliment I could honestly give them)
Stepney Tale - Athletic Progression (ft. Isatta Shariff) - not nearly popular enough, fucking slaps so hard. I am absolutely in love with Isatta Sheriff fr, mad flow and a great lyricist. Obv the Athletic Progression lads are great too, incredibly chill composition, I'm just too enamored with Isatta.
Water - Kojey Radical (ft. Mahalia, Swindle) - good one to end on. I talked a lot about Kojey already so Imma just say that Mahalia's absolutely spectacular in this as well, I love her verse and think it should have been longer
I swear I listen to other music too. This is just a very specific time for me. I have a veried music taste, I swear.
10 people is a lot of peeps to tag but I'll try to best. This is your problem now: @heyitschartic (because I already KNOW you listen to good music and this is my devilish ploy to get more of it from you), @fractalmeadows (likewise, motherfucker), @victoriadallonfan (we never talked abt music but I like bothering you), @larky-lark (ditto), @clarissa39 (ditto ditto), @henghost (ditto ditto ditto), @that-one-empty-skull (ditto x4)

Jesus BPP. I didn't believe there was anything like a company stan until I found this page. This is supposed to be a professional music review page and notice what's going on here: ALL the albums that aren't associated with SM get shit ratings and only Shinee, Kai, and other SM artists get glowing reviews. I wish that was the only problem but in their reviews against Jimin, NewJeans, Jungkook, the reviews are filled with kpoppie rumors, thinly veiled hate to spread controversies outside kpop circles, and there's a whole army of SM stans in the comments under each negative review for other non-SM artists basically agreeing with them. I'm just so amazed at how organized and dedicated kpop stans are to hate in every platform in every way, the way they behave is so insidious. If you're right that BTS ARMY developed to counter those efforts, no wonder the BTS fandom acts like it does. My god I felt goosebumps going through that SM stans page. Is there any way to change these behaviors?
***
Hi Anon,
Your link.
Like I've been saying, whatever behaviours you find in ARMY, I promise you it's significantly worse in other / older k-pop fandoms. And that the dominant behaviours you find here are made by decades of fandom norms created by fans of Big 3 groups, and all those behaviours are structurally supported by the companies. It's the unspoken rule for SM Entertainment for example, that the success, fame and acclaim of individual artists should never eclipse that of the agency, i.e. the company branding is the point of the artist's success. Lee Soo-Man has explicitly said this several times over the years and this is a philosophy that drives practically everything about how SM promotes their artists, to date. Literally the first time I saw "company stan" being used in a conversation about 10 years ago, it was used as a compliment and in reference to stans of SM groups.
In the hyper-competitiveness of k-pop, it's no surprise that the fans of SM groups carry that animus for BTS and by extension groups under HYBE, outside k-pop spaces to further handicap groups they consider as a hindrance to SM's success. Basically, these people have been conditioned, and now they willingly partake in behaviours we can all see to be insane.
Personally, I just find the whole thing hilarious. I suggest you ignore people like the 'reviewer' you linked. Anyone who actually cares about the music eventually finds what they're looking for, and those with the mental capacity to critically think and sift through bullshit, also eventually navigate the madness that is k-pop fandom, successfully. It's true some people might become radicalized by the bullshit, but that can't be helped. I hope you don't get jaded, just keep engaging as honestly as you can with the media created here. There's a lot of gunk but the gems are truly worth it. In my opinion.

Kay Gardner, seen 2 mins into this clip onstage with the incredible Ubaka Hill, passed on this day 22 years ago. She was a powerful positive force for womyn, creating healing spaces, assisting countless numbers of womyn in finding and sharing their voices, and pioneered the field of sound healing and music as medicine. She played an integral role in creating the culture of Michfest and its spiritual successors.
Watch Radical Harmonies for free on vimeo to learn more about our beautiful womyn's music culture. This film might just blow you away.
Womyn's land, female-only healing spaces and womyn's festivals are valuable and culturally significant. Female separatism is a valid life path and the creative cultural works which spring from that culture are worth the energy it takes to uplift and protect it.
