Between 1960-1983, 3.5 million black Africans were forced into segregated neighbourhoods. Racial segregation was rampant back then in South Africa. Under apartheid, black, coloured and Indian origin players were not considered worthy of selection for the South African test team. As a result, Basil D’Oliveira, a talented all-rounder from Cape Town, South Africa, joined Worcestershire Country Cricket Club in 1964 and later went on to represent England. Unfortunately due to the institutionlaized segregation, he was denied to tour South Africa his home country.
