Crutchlow Makes Positive Return To LCR Honda MotoGP 2019 Action After Long Injury Lay-Off
The LCR Honda CASTROL Team and their star rider Cal Crutchlow finally returned to MotoGP track action today, with the first day of pre-season tests at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
The British rider had been enjoying a fantastic 2018 season until he crashed during practice at the Australian Grand Prix in late October. He suffered extensive damage to his right ankle, and after surgery and winter of rehabilitation, Crutchlow finally threw his leg back over his factory Honda RC213V on Wednesday.
With good weather allowing a full day of tests, Crutchlow managed an impressive 51 laps, and in the afternoon was able to get his first taste of Honda’s 2019 factory machine.
Testing continues on Thursday and Friday in Malaysia.
Cal Crutchlow – 14th (2’00.681 – lap 24 of 51) “I feel good. It’s really nice to be back out there on the motorcycle and working with the LCR Honda CASTROL Team and HRC again here in Malaysia. I thought it was going to be a difficult day, but I was honest about how it was feeling. The first laps were so strange, I went round the track thinking I was doing a 2’01, but I was in the 2’08s or something! “
“I don’t feel fantastic, but I feel I can be competitive this season – which is great. I didn’t really push too hard today, I just worked on trying to understand my feeling on the bike again after so long off. The team did a great job today, they were patient with me with regards to my information. It seemed I quite quickly got back into the way I normally work, so I enjoyed it. I’m confident that if I needed to go one second quicker, I would have.”
“I got to ride the 2019 machine this afternoon. The plan was always for me to start on the 2018 bike anyway, to get back some familiarity with me riding again. I feel HRC have done a good job with the new bike. We need to adjust the setting as is usual and understand it a bit more because it is different to what I’ve been used to, but as expected they’ve done a good job and we’re pleased with how it feels.”

CRASH COSTS CRUTCHLOW PODIUM CHANCE IN TEXAS
Cal Crutchlow ensured another frustrating Sunday afternoon as he suffered an early fall at the Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas. The LCR Honda CASTROL rider looked poised for an assault on the podium places in Austin having started in third position on the grid after demonstrating impressive during qualifying.
The Briton had made a strong start to the race and was ahead in a front three along with pole-sitter Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi in the early stages. However, Crutchlow lost the front end of his RC213V on lap six when stalking Rossi and slid out to bring his race to a premature and disappointing end.
Cal Crutchlow – DNF
“Obviously I’m very disappointed with today’s result here at the Circuit of the Americas. It seemed that I got a good start and managed to be on the pace with the front guys, Marc had a little bit of a lead but I felt comfortable in the position I was in. Unfortunately I started to feel some issues with the turning of the bike, the front tyre was not giving me a great feeling and when I crashed I think I made a mistake because the engine was snapping on the braking. I locked the front in turn 11 going on to the back straight and it was the end of my race. It’s my first mistake of the year and I’m disappointed to make it here because we could have capitalised on some great points (in the championship), but we have to look forward to Jerez now which is another great circuit and we hope to do a better job there. I want to thank my team who produced a great bike all weekend and we’ll look to try and improve it in Jerez in two weeks’ time.”

Brookes And Redding All Set For Silverstone
PRESS RELEASE
Monday 15th April 2019
Brookes And Redding All Set For Silverstone
This forthcoming Easter weekend sees the Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team commence their bid to regain the title they surrendered last year when the opening round of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship gets underway at Silverstone.
With a brand new line up of four-times Grand Prix winner Scott Redding and former BSB champion Josh Brookes, who will have at their disposal the exciting factory-supported Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R, hopes are high of success following a positive pre-season testing schedule which saw both riders towards the top of the time sheets.
26-year-old Redding, from Quedgeley in Gloucestershire, teams up with the Lake District-based team once again, the pair resurrecting a partnership which saw team boss Paul Bird back him in various junior championships at the start of his career which started in minimotos in 2001. Scott has for the past five seasons raced in the elite MotoGP class, claiming two podiums during that time.
Meanwhile 36-year-old Brookes, from Bringelly in New South Wales, Australia, has a wealth of British Superbike experience to date including over 220 starts and is currently fourth in the list of all-time BSB race winners with a total of 39 victories. As well as his domination en route to the 2015 BSB title, Josh has been runner-up three times in his BSB tenure and last year finished fourth.
Scott Redding:  “I’m really excited going into the first round and to compete in my first BSB races at Silverstone. It’s going to be tough as the format is different as I’m not used to doing two races in a day, there’s the new tracks I’m going to have to adapt to and of course, there are the fantastic fans to race in front of. The shorter track at Silverstone means there’s going to be lots of action and you need more balls than skill at times. The bike is good, the team is excellent and I’m ready so let’s get this started.”
Josh Brookes: “I’m quite pleased as everything is looking very competitive at this very early stage going into the season. To be so close to where we need to be is very promising considering we’ve found an excellent setup at all the tracks we’ve tested at, without doing massive changes. Both at Silverstone last week and previously in Europe, at totally different tracks and opposing weather conditions, we have been towards the top of the times, so we have a good working area so hopefully that transpires into a good result this weekend.”
John Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator: “These are exciting times for the Be Wiser Ducati British Superbike Team with a whole new rider line up and a fantastic brand-new bike for 2019. Scott and Josh have integrated well into the team and we have made excellent strides with the Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R in pre-season testing. Hopefully the weather will be good over Easter and both Josh and Scott can make a great start to winning back the BSB title we last held in 2016 and 2017.”
There is live action on Eurosport throughout the weekend with Datatag Extreme Qualifying on Easter Saturday from 16.00 and the Bennetts BSB races live on Easter Sunday at 13.30 and 16.30. Free-to-air channel Quest will be showing the action live and highlights will be broadcast during the week including on ITV4 on Wednesday evening at 20.00.
For further information, please visit the team’s website, www.pbmuk.net and the official website of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship www.britishsuperbike.com.
