Brookes And Redding All Set For Silverstone
PRESS RELEASE
Monday 15th April 2019
Brookes And Redding All Set For Silverstone
This forthcoming Easter weekend sees the Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team commence their bid to regain the title they surrendered last year when the opening round of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship gets underway at Silverstone.
With a brand new line up of four-times Grand Prix winner Scott Redding and former BSB champion Josh Brookes, who will have at their disposal the exciting factory-supported Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R, hopes are high of success following a positive pre-season testing schedule which saw both riders towards the top of the time sheets.
26-year-old Redding, from Quedgeley in Gloucestershire, teams up with the Lake District-based team once again, the pair resurrecting a partnership which saw team boss Paul Bird back him in various junior championships at the start of his career which started in minimotos in 2001. Scott has for the past five seasons raced in the elite MotoGP class, claiming two podiums during that time.
Meanwhile 36-year-old Brookes, from Bringelly in New South Wales, Australia, has a wealth of British Superbike experience to date including over 220 starts and is currently fourth in the list of all-time BSB race winners with a total of 39 victories. As well as his domination en route to the 2015 BSB title, Josh has been runner-up three times in his BSB tenure and last year finished fourth.
Scott Redding:  “I’m really excited going into the first round and to compete in my first BSB races at Silverstone. It’s going to be tough as the format is different as I’m not used to doing two races in a day, there’s the new tracks I’m going to have to adapt to and of course, there are the fantastic fans to race in front of. The shorter track at Silverstone means there’s going to be lots of action and you need more balls than skill at times. The bike is good, the team is excellent and I’m ready so let’s get this started.”
Josh Brookes: “I’m quite pleased as everything is looking very competitive at this very early stage going into the season. To be so close to where we need to be is very promising considering we’ve found an excellent setup at all the tracks we’ve tested at, without doing massive changes. Both at Silverstone last week and previously in Europe, at totally different tracks and opposing weather conditions, we have been towards the top of the times, so we have a good working area so hopefully that transpires into a good result this weekend.”
John Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator: “These are exciting times for the Be Wiser Ducati British Superbike Team with a whole new rider line up and a fantastic brand-new bike for 2019. Scott and Josh have integrated well into the team and we have made excellent strides with the Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R in pre-season testing. Hopefully the weather will be good over Easter and both Josh and Scott can make a great start to winning back the BSB title we last held in 2016 and 2017.”
There is live action on Eurosport throughout the weekend with Datatag Extreme Qualifying on Easter Saturday from 16.00 and the Bennetts BSB races live on Easter Sunday at 13.30 and 16.30. Free-to-air channel Quest will be showing the action live and highlights will be broadcast during the week including on ITV4 on Wednesday evening at 20.00.
For further information, please visit the team’s website, www.pbmuk.net and the official website of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship www.britishsuperbike.com.

CRASH COSTS CRUTCHLOW PODIUM CHANCE IN TEXAS
Cal Crutchlow ensured another frustrating Sunday afternoon as he suffered an early fall at the Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas. The LCR Honda CASTROL rider looked poised for an assault on the podium places in Austin having started in third position on the grid after demonstrating impressive during qualifying.
The Briton had made a strong start to the race and was ahead in a front three along with pole-sitter Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi in the early stages. However, Crutchlow lost the front end of his RC213V on lap six when stalking Rossi and slid out to bring his race to a premature and disappointing end.
Cal Crutchlow – DNF
“Obviously I’m very disappointed with today’s result here at the Circuit of the Americas. It seemed that I got a good start and managed to be on the pace with the front guys, Marc had a little bit of a lead but I felt comfortable in the position I was in. Unfortunately I started to feel some issues with the turning of the bike, the front tyre was not giving me a great feeling and when I crashed I think I made a mistake because the engine was snapping on the braking. I locked the front in turn 11 going on to the back straight and it was the end of my race. It’s my first mistake of the year and I’m disappointed to make it here because we could have capitalised on some great points (in the championship), but we have to look forward to Jerez now which is another great circuit and we hope to do a better job there. I want to thank my team who produced a great bike all weekend and we’ll look to try and improve it in Jerez in two weeks’ time.”

CRUTCHLOW CONFIDENT AHEAD OF TEXAS TEST WITH FLEX-BOX AS TITLE SPONSOR
PRESS RELEASE: 11 April 2019 | Austin GP Preview
Cal Crutchlow is raring to get back out on the track aboard his RC213V at this weekend’s Grand Prix of the Americas where the LCR Honda CASTROL Team’s Title Sponsor will be Flex-Box (www.flex-box.com). As well as in Texas, the industry-leading shipping container manufacturer will also sponsor the Briton and his team in the Czech Republic and Austrian GPs this season.
Crutchlow will be determined to challenge at the front of the field again following a frustrating race in Argentina two weeks ago, having opened the season with a superb podium in Qatar. He has demonstrated unquestionable pace in the opening two rounds and is confident he can maintain his momentum at a circuit where he finished fourth back in 2017.
Cal Crutchlow
First of all I want to say a big thank you to Flex-Box for this second year partnership and for believing in our potential. We are doing our best to gain good results so we can give them the visibility they deserve”.
“As a team we’re really looking forward to competing at Austin. It’s a great circuit, a great country to be able to ride in and it should suit our bike well. With the pace we had over the weekend of Argentina, I’m looking to be challenging at the front again and hopefully pick up some more good points for the World Championship.

PENALTY UNDERMINES CRUTCHLOW IN ARGENTINA
Cal Crutchlow saw his hopes of another podium finish in the Argentina Grand Prix scuppered by a controversial ride through penalty in Sunday’s race at Termas de Rio Hondo. The LCR Honda CASTROL rider – who won last year’s MotoGP event at the venue – again demonstrated his undoubted speed at the South American circuit, but lost any chance of fighting at the front of the field after being penalised for a jump start.
It appeared to be a very marginal call and the Briton, who was lapping in sixth after starting from eighth on the grid, re-joined down in 19th position. However, from that point, he showed what might have been as he lapped at the same pace as runaway winner Marc Marquez for the remainder of the race. In the end, Crutchlow claimed a points-finish in 13th, but unsurprisingly cut a frustrated figure afterwards.
Lucio Cecchinello (LCR Honda Team Principal): “I am absolutely disappointed with what the Race Direction have done with us today. The penalty that Cal got was tremendously hard and his movement at the start was irrelevant, really irrelevant. We’re talking about 1.5 or 2 centimetres, it’s really nothing. However, we cannot do very much, all we can do is put forward our opinion at the next committee meeting that the penalty for this kind of infringement is far too hard. There is no relation between the potential gain of a couple of a centimetres compared to the 30-second penalty you get doing a ride through. So we are really disappointed, but we have to look forward and I can’t wait to be in Texas.”
Cal Crutchlow – 13th
“First of all I want to thank my team for a great weekend and a positive race pace, I think we showed today that we would have been able to fight for the podium and probably would have had a good, safe second place. But we didn’t, the stewards said that I jumped the start, which I completely disagree with, as do my team, and we’re disappointed with this ride through penalty”. “But we accept the situation, we had to do a ride through and then I rode the best job that I could for the rest of the race with a good pace. Now I have to continue to look forward to Texas where we’ll plan to do another good race.”

CRUTCHLOW RARING TO GO AGAIN IN ARGENTINA
Cal Crutchlow is excited about the prospect of getting back out on the track in Argentina this weekend as he returns to the scene of his memorable victory 12 months ago. Despite his injury problems over the close season, the LCR Honda CASTROL rider enjoyed a superb start to his 2019 campaign in Qatar as he battled through the field to claim a podium finish. Now, with a strong track record at Termas de Rio Hondo, he’s hopeful of following that with another positive result.
The Briton claimed podium finishes in Argentina in both 2015 and 2017, but topped those results last year as he held off Johan Zarco to take the chequered flag. Crutchlow says that memory will stand him in good stead this time around, but admits the three-week wait has done him no favours as he looks to build on his excellent performance in Qatar.
Cal Crutchlow
“Two weekends off after you’ve had a good result is too long, you already want to see if you can repeat it or do a good job at the next race. Obviously we’re all very, very happy with what happened in Qatar, especially the way we managed the situation because we weren’t having a good weekend and then we turned it around in the race. I think the key is to not panic if things aren’t going as well as you’d hoped, keep working and go into the race with a clear head”.
“I wasn’t surprised, I felt I had good pace, but maybe pace for the top six. To be on the podium was an added bonus as my plan was just to go there, finish the race and score points. That will be my plan again this weekend, I’m not looking any further ahead than that, I just hope we have another enjoyable weekend and I’m able to battle”.
“It’s always nice (to come back to a venue you’ve won at). Over the years I’ve had a good feeling with the track, although I don’t really like it particularly, I’ve just always gone well here. I’ve made three podiums here now and hopefully I’ll aim to make that four on Sunday afternoon.”

Be Wiser Ducati Confident After Foreign Tests
PRESS RELEASE
Monday 18th March 2019
Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team riders Scott Redding and Josh Brookes today concluded five days of pre-season testing in both Spain and Portugal in preparation for the opening round of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship which gets underway in a month’s time at Silverstone.
Be Wiser Ducati
Gloucestershire-born Grand Prix winner Redding along with Aussie team-mate and ex-BSB champion Brookes took to the Monteblanco circuit in southern Spain for three days last week where the pair totalled over 300 laps getting to grips with the brand-new, factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati V4R.
In perfect weather conditions, 26-year-old Scott topped three of the sessions and was never outside the top three in the others whereas 35-year-old Josh sensibly dialled himself in, to end up in seventh place in Friday morning’s penultimate session.
From there, it was onto the Portimao circuit located on the Portuguese Algarve for two further days which again saw Redding at the cutting edge, setting fastest time in two sessions and again not outside the top three in the others. Brookes upped his pace considerably and indeed was second fastest behind his team-mate in Sunday afternoon’s test as the pair added a further 245 laps gaining vital data for Paul Bird’s Penrith-based team.
Both Redding and Brookes were joined by Ulsterman Alastair Seeley in Portugal, who will ride a Be Wiser Ducati V4R at the North West 200 this season, and who also reported favourable feedback to the PBM team as a result.
Johnny Mowatt (Team Co-ordinator): “Testing has gone really well with all of our riders finding their feet with the new Be Wiser Ducati V4R. We’ve explored a wide range of settings at both tracks and the result has been really positive. Scott and Josh have settled into the PBM team really well, whilst Alastair got a run out in preparation for the North West 200 and took to the bike in a short time which can only be good news. Now we get some very valuable time back at the workshop to work on some much-needed dyno time then move on to the Silverstone test in preparation for the first round.” Indeed, both Redding and Brookes will be at the official BSB Test Day at Silverstone on Tuesday 9th April where they’ll be in action along with all of their rivals prior to the opening round which gets underway on Easter Sunday (21st April).

Crutchlow on Podium Yet Again – Grand Prix of Qatar Opener
LCR Honda CASTROL’s Cal Crutchlow opened his 2019 MotoGP account with a stunning third place in the curtain-raising Grand Prix of Qatar on Sunday, which was made all the more remarkable by the fact that it was his first race back after suffering a career-threatening injury in Australia last October.
Crutchlow had a horrific ankle-break just four months ago, and only started walking again in January, however the British hero was in remarkable form under the floodlights of the Losail circuit in the Gulf state. He battled hard for victory throughout the epic 22-lap race, and having retaken third place from rival Alex Rins on the final lap, held out to finish just three-tenths behind the eventual winner Andrea Dovizioso, marking an unbelievable comeback ride.
It means back-to-back podium finishes for the 33 year-old, who next up heads to the scene of his last grand prix victory, the Termas de Rio Honda circuit in Argentina.
Cal Crutchlow – 3rd
“It’s great to even be back racing in MotoGP, let alone come away with a podium finish, but my LCR Honda Castrol Team did a great job. We worked hard this weekend because the tests were a bit of a waste of time for me. This weekend has been difficult, and if you had asked me after warm-up if I’d finish on the podium I would have laughed!”.
“I played my cards in the race, I felt good and once we started the race myself and Marc Marquez had similar tactics – saving the rear tyre and managing things a little bit more.” “What a great start to the season for everybody, for my team, for the riders and the fans here in Qatar and for the people watching at home. It seems every race in MotoGP is always a battle and it was nice to be in it and race and get a podium. It’s a dream to be honest. At one point we didn’t know if I was going to be coming back at all.”

LCR Honda Castrol: Improvements For Crutchlow – MotoGP 2019 Qatar Test Day Two
With just one more day of testing to go at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar, before the 2019 MotoGP season kicks off at the same venue in two weeks’ time, Cal Crutchlow made progress with his preparations for the year ahead.
The LCR Honda CASTROL man continued his planned schedule of tests with his Honda RC213V, and improved his lap time from the opening day by well over one and a half seconds. That placed him ninth overall in the standings and less than seven-tenths behind the fastest rider on the night.
Monday sees the final night of testing in Qatar, before a final week and a half of intense preparations ahead of the curtain-raiser.
Cal Crutchlow – 9th (1’55.247 – lap 29 of 35)
“We finished a little bit early today on our second day of testing here in Qatar. We got through everything in our programme for the day. We’ve got more to do tomorrow, and we’ve decided on a few different things we’re going to try them on the last day of testing before the season starts”.
“The LCR Honda CASTROL Team have worked really hard as always, and we are a bit more pleased than yesterday, but there’s still a way to go to make sure we’re at the front.”

Fastest Honda In Malaysia MotoGP 2019 Tests – Crutchlow Returns To Action!
After a three-month absence from any kind of racing motorcycle following his nasty ankle injury at the Australian GP, Cal Crutchlow returned to MotoGP action this week with the first pre-season tests in Malaysia.
Considering the extent of his injuries, the LCR Honda CASTROL man was unsure of how things would feel on the bike, but having ended the three-day session as top Honda and faster than the official circuit best lap, it is clear that the Brit will be competitive yet again.
On the final day, Cal focused on testing parts for HRC on the new factory RC213V motorcycle he will ride in the 2019 MotoGP World Championship. Despite missing out on an absolute fast lap when he had a small slide out on the softest tyre, he still posted the sixth fastest time of the day, and the test as a whole.
Crutchlow and the LCR Honda CASTROL Team return to testing action in two weeks’ time at the Losail Circuit in Qatar, before the season opener at the same venue in early March.
Cal Crutchlow – 6th (1’58.780 – lap 17 of 61) “I’m happy at the end of the third day, not only with how the test has gone, but to be finished with it too! My ankle by the end was getting sore, hot, and swollen. I feel in good shape, however, and the ankle feels good on the bike. It doesn’t bother me on there, it bothers me when I stop”.
“I kept the length of the runs quite minimal today because we didn’t need to go long – we were testing items rather than testing for race pace. I was really pleased with my pace all day. On the used tyres we were consistent and fast which is good. It’s good going into Qatar and especially after a three-month lay-off – to ride again and to be competitive with it”.
“I should have gone faster in terms of overall lap time, but I crashed. It was completely my own fault, I went into turn two over-excited! I lost three-tenths in the first sector on my fastest lap, compared to a normal good lap. So, the next lap I pushed like a madman thinking I needed to go half a second faster than I had the previous lap. I had some chatter, tried to save it, and crashed. That was with the really soft, test tyre. On average I think you could take at least six-tenths off with that, so I’m confident we could have gone a lot quicker, and then we didn’t use that tyre again all day”.
“I think the 2019 bike is definitely better, but my feeling is I just need to adjust it a bit more. I ride quite a neutral bike, but I haven’t found the perfect setting with the front end just yet. Overall HRC has done a great job with the package. I think it can be competitive for the championship, and it’s one I’m looking forward to riding this year”.

Crutchlow Makes Positive Return To LCR Honda MotoGP 2019 Action After Long Injury Lay-Off
The LCR Honda CASTROL Team and their star rider Cal Crutchlow finally returned to MotoGP track action today, with the first day of pre-season tests at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
The British rider had been enjoying a fantastic 2018 season until he crashed during practice at the Australian Grand Prix in late October. He suffered extensive damage to his right ankle, and after surgery and winter of rehabilitation, Crutchlow finally threw his leg back over his factory Honda RC213V on Wednesday.
With good weather allowing a full day of tests, Crutchlow managed an impressive 51 laps, and in the afternoon was able to get his first taste of Honda’s 2019 factory machine.
Testing continues on Thursday and Friday in Malaysia.
Cal Crutchlow – 14th (2’00.681 – lap 24 of 51) “I feel good. It’s really nice to be back out there on the motorcycle and working with the LCR Honda CASTROL Team and HRC again here in Malaysia. I thought it was going to be a difficult day, but I was honest about how it was feeling. The first laps were so strange, I went round the track thinking I was doing a 2’01, but I was in the 2’08s or something! “
“I don’t feel fantastic, but I feel I can be competitive this season – which is great. I didn’t really push too hard today, I just worked on trying to understand my feeling on the bike again after so long off. The team did a great job today, they were patient with me with regards to my information. It seemed I quite quickly got back into the way I normally work, so I enjoyed it. I’m confident that if I needed to go one second quicker, I would have.”
“I got to ride the 2019 machine this afternoon. The plan was always for me to start on the 2018 bike anyway, to get back some familiarity with me riding again. I feel HRC have done a good job with the new bike. We need to adjust the setting as is usual and understand it a bit more because it is different to what I’ve been used to, but as expected they’ve done a good job and we’re pleased with how it feels.”
