My 40th birthday insights were magnified with both Shaykh Taner's third person perspective of myself, and through my other half who is actually my better half, who manages to shut down my ever prevalent nafs (ego / lower-self) with his goofy compassion and wisdom - your Abbu. Shukran Ya Allah (Divine gratitude) for connecting deepest to You, through two invaluable mediums, and please bless them both!

We pray that you kids are blessed with both too; deep spiritual insights and future unions in marriage that enable you to unify your body, mind, and soul dedicated to learning and serving Allah insha'Allah, in this world! Bismillah...

#1. In our local Jumu'ah Sohbet Shaykh Nishaat reminded us that we are in the blessed month of Rabi ul-Awal (the holiest Islamic month which saw the birth of our Prophet Muhammad SAW) and we have been celebrating Mawlid un-Nabi (birthday of the Prophet SAW) 💚 These are all sources of remembrance where Allah speaks of Zikrullahi Akbar (Zikr of Allah is the greatest), and there are other forms of reminders too.

But what are we remembering, he provoked? When we speak about Sufism, what do we know and experience? There must be meaning in everything that we do! In our ilahi group (our "spiritual band"), I referred to this meaning that we gain, in my birthday gratitude message:

I almost missed this! Thank you all for enjoying my zany participation, as I am slowly regaining the function of my vocal chords. I simply love our meaningful praise of Huu 💓 Virtual group hugs!

#2. Shaykh Mohammad of Mexico again had us spellbound on a Saturday Sohbet, particularly when he asked who created this world? Of course everything comes from Allah, but what we see in this world is the creation of the minds and egos of people in the lower level of their development. The superficial world is created by the minds of mankind but underneath that is the reality of Allah, and the soul is the reality of us which is pushing us to search for the truth. The only reason that we are in this body and world, is to see the Divine force and recognise our relationship with it.

Once the soul is exposed by the reduction of the ego, Allah through the worldly manifestation, begins to teach and stimulates the soul's development. The soul is therefore being developed by Allah, but there is something reciprocal going on, where the soul, brain, and physical body and its consciousness increase its desire to work against the ego. It instigates a virtual cycle because the soul is not material, where it cannot work in this world, but it needs the body. Allah sent us to this world to struggle through all of these difficulties here, but the soul needs the body to do the physical work of spiritual practices. We don't really want to, but we are made to do it.

#3. A personally lived haq (truth) was then described by him, about my life as an accident survivor. What is the difference between free will and decree where everything is written, queried Shaykh Mohammad? Allah in the processs is allowing us to enact our free will where we're put in situations continually, or we are removed and placed in other situations where we have to deal with the change. Allah is moving us where we have to make a choice between Allah and the nafs.

In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says that my servant doesn't cease to grow closer to me in good deeds and service, and when I love him, I become the ears with which he listens, the eyes with which he sees, the tongue with which he speaks and the hands with which he grabs. So worshipping Allah in formal religions are basically rituals and acts of worship. However, that is not complete worship because true worship means harmonising with Allah's laws and His love where it is not an emotion but a vibration / frequency. It is a frequency through which Allah travels and guides us.

Worshipping and loving Allah is uniting with the reality of existence, of our innate reality of our fitrah. It is a reciprocal relationship between us and Allah as we move closer to Him. Allah puts us in positions where we have to react. What is important is how we react to what happens to us as a part of the process. We have to become aware of the process where we can't just remain ignorant of it. We have to observe constantly what is going on and observe ourselves. In the Qur'an, Allah says that He doesn't help anyone until they help themselves. And only then, He says that if you take one step towards Him, He takes ten steps towards you! If you walk towards Him, He runs towards you!

This is a reciprocity in our lives where we are associates of Allah, where we work with Allah! He puts us in positions where we have to react correctly. We have to observe ourselves, where we live in the third person. This means we are watching ourselves as separate beings from our bodies and minds. We have to know the enemy, which is, of course, our nafs at its lowest level! We can only do that by continually observing our reactions to everything around us.

#4. What also resonated with Shaykh Mohammad's Sohbet is how we both dawdled to become mureeds (followers) of Shaykh Taner, and he predicted that we would be his students at the outset of meeting us both! Shaykh Mohammad abashedly related:

... I went to a Masjid close to San Francisco, and an Imam introduced me to Sufi Shaykh Taner who lived 2 hours away! He would do Zikr on Friday nights, and I wasn't impressed, really...

... We had to return to the US from Mexico for legal proceedings, and I felt completely empty because just following religion didn't cut it! I met Shaykh Taner at the Pizzeria and I don't remember the details but I knew that he was my teacher immediately and he said that he was expecting me! I took bay'ah (a Sufi pledge of allegiance), and he said, "The rest is just life!" I was so disappointed because I was expecting steps and miracles. I ended up here where nobody is interested in what I am doing. Eventually, I was permitted to lead a cyber Tariqa where I dealt with the reality of the inner worlds of my Latin American students in a different way. I'm participating in and observing the lives of my students.

#5. I was royally surprised on my birthday where three lots of people of my heart congregated in one place, fittingly a Turkish precinct!

CM INSPECTS FIRDAUS MARKET UNDERPASS PROJECT

LAHORE, November 03:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar paid a surprise visit to Firdous Market underpass project yesterday night and expressed displeasure over the delay. Taking action upon the complaints of traders, the chief engineer has been removed from his post while DG and Additional DG of Lahore Development Authority have been issued show-cause notices.

The CM demanded a final deadline be given and issued directions for early completion of the project. Delay will not be tolerated as thousands of citizens will benefit from this project, the CM warned. He directed the project director to immediately solve the traders’ problems as shopkeepers complained that filth and stagnant water has made the business activities difficult. The chief minister assured the traders to provide facilities on a priority basis as he would take personal interest to solve their problems. The shopkeepers thanked the CM for his proactive approach.

While showing displeasure over the insensitivity of LDA and WASA, the CM regretted the concerned officials are oblivious of their duties. Should the CM personally supervise each and everything, he enquired and stated that he is deeply saddened over officers’ impassiveness towards the general public. Enough has been tolerated and no negligence will be tolerated now, he further warned.

CM ANNOUNCES TO CELEBRATE SHAN-E-REHMAT-UL-AALMEEN (PBUH) WEEK EVERY YEAR

LAHORE, November 03:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has stressed that every Muslim has a tremendous emotional attachment with Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Muslims prioritizes it over everything.  

While addressing the presser at his office on Tuesday, the CM emphasized the West must understand that Muslims can sacrifice their lives but any disrespect to the great personality of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is intolerable in any manner. It is regrettable that abhorrent attempts have been made in Denmark, Norway and other countries to play with the sentiments of the Muslims. Students were forcibly shown blasphemous caricatures in the garb of freedom of expression in France and this is, indeed, an evil attempt to hurt the feeling of the Muslims around the world, the CM emphasized. He further emphasised that nefarious attempts made in the garb of freedom of expression are totally intolerable and the PTI government strongly condemns such profane cartoons in the strongest possible words.

The chief minister demanded the United Nations to immediately put a worldwide ban to all such blasphemous attempts about the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as well as other Prophets. I am deeply saddened over this despicable attempt, he stressed. If anyone is upset over questioning the genuineness of holocaust, then why the emotions of 1.75 billion Muslims are hurt, again and again, he asked. He further stressed the OIC and other bodies to proactively respond to it so that no one could dare to repeat it.

The CM disclosed the government has decided to officially celebrate Shan-e-Rehmat-ul-Aalmeen (PBUH) Week in Rabi-ul-Awal every year. Starting from Naatia Mushaira at Alhamra Lahore, different celebrations, including mehfil-e-sama and international Ulema & mashaikh conference, will be held this week to illustrate the glorious character of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), he added. Similarly, declamation contests will also be held at different level every year. During the week, Na’at Khawani and Qawali mahafil will also be held at district, divisional and provincial level, he said.

The CM announced Rehmat-ul-Aalmeen Scholarship with an initial grant of Rs.50 crore adding that half the amount will be utilized for giving stipends to position- holders while rest of the money will be utilized to given Rehmat-ul-Aalmeen Scholarships to the needy matriculate students for further studies. This fund will be increased every year and Rehmat-ul-Aalmeen Chairs are also being established in government-run universities in different divisions, he added. Meanwhile, the scholarships will be given for conducting research on the Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) in world-class universities, he said. Islamic calligraphy competitions will be held and documentaries will be aired at electronic and social media platforms with English and French subtitles to highlight the blessed life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), he said.

The CM announced that Shan-e-Rehmet-ul-Aalmeen (PBUH) Week will be celebrated with religious fervour every year and committees will be constituted. Provincial Minister Saeed ul Hassan Shah, Special Assistant for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and others will be included in ministerial committee while secretariat level committee will also be constituted. The celebrations will start from next week and schedule will be announced, he said.

To a question, the CM said that journalists will be given good news about Sehat Insaf Cards and further stated, in response to another question, that he regularly meets with assembly members and also held a meeting with Azhar Abbas Chandia MPA yesterday. I take everybody along. Any anti-state act is intolerable as we are Pakistanis and it is our only identity, he stressed.

Special Assistant for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office on Tuesday and strongly condemned the nefarious campaign against state institutions.

The CM directed to vigorously project the pro-Pakistan narrative of Prime Minister Imran Khan along with public welfare initiatives. The 2-years performance of the PTI government is better than the previous governments, he said. He said the government is striving to facilitate the people and I am the custodian of the rights of the citizens. No one will be allowed to make a dacoity over public interest, the CM said.

The CM stated the slanderous campaign against institutions is, in fact, a conspiracy to weaken the country and the government will defend institutions at every level. The anti-state narrative of the opposition has been badly failed, he added.

Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said the public welfare work of the PTI government will be fully projected adding that political orphans are running an organised campaign against state institutions. The propaganda against state institutions is the agenda of enemies of the country and opposition parties have failed at every front, she added.

Remarking on the significance of the month of Rabi ul-Awwal, in that it makes us connect with the history of our Nabi Muhammad SAW in his migration from the conflictual city of Mecca to the tranquil city of Medina. Shaykh Nishaat asked whether we are willing to make hijrah (migration, as a form of departure) from our nafs to our hearts..? Our Sulook / spiritual journey is to depart from our nafs as the greater jihad to enter our hearts which is made tranquil therein, as Saliks / travellers.

We were gifted with freewill in being given the choice between our nafs and our spiritual hearts. However, only good actions are associated with Allah enacted through our hearts. Let us seek the path of the Saliks in Sulook as the path of our Nabi SAW to our spiritual hearts.

#3. Can we deny that we were created? No, then we surrender as our understanding changes! As the take-away message of Ammu's AHHI talk that touched deeply a vastly different individual who is a former colleague; a 60 year old, accomplished and beautiful Brazilian woman - who is far from being a conventional Muslim 😄 Subhana'Allah!

#4. In living with Allah as elucidated by Shaykh Taner; we have to be aware of the equation that there is Allah, you and everything else. To have a meaningful purpose as humans, we must have positive assumptions of Allah and watch out for Him. We have to focus on preserving ourselves by trying to understand Allah in what is happening, as my arrest in my post-accidental body.

Allah lives is the potential and kinetic energies, and His attributes are in different forms. Our brains hold logic to discern right and wrong, and our hearts help us to rise from habitual action. When we ask questions to Allah, we have to have good dzan / assumptions of Allah and we have to get to know and communicate with Him. Our Tariqa is equipping us with just that, and we pray for such an opening for unlikely people that we love in our lives with:

Ya Fattah Ya Razzaq (An opening to Allah's sustenance)

Ya Shakur (Divine gratitude)

We ought to allow Allah to live in, through and with us!

Shaykha Muzeyyen then aptly summarised our Saturday Sohbet by describing the mysterious faculty of our spiritual hearts; by saying that when we talk from it, it connects to everything with its own language. Our Sufi practice is from inside to outside as serving and helping people. Above all and refreshingly anti-complacent, Allah teaches us till our last breath - Insha'Allah!

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has directed the Home Department for checking of fire safety arrangements in high-rise buildings, shopping malls and commercial plazas and a circular has also been issued to commissioners and DCs for a comprehensive survey. Fire safety arrangements will be checked through survey teams consisting of additional deputy commissioner (revenue), district officer 1122, civil defence officer, district officer (industries) and the representative of housing department/development authorities. The management of all such buildings will be bound to keep fire-safety equipment functional along with arrangements for safe emergency exit. Similarly, the owners will also be responsible for the fire-fighting system and the concerned administration and civil defence officials will be bound for regular monitoring of fire-fighting arrangements and submission of reports to the CM Office.

CM MESSAGE ON WORLD POLIO DAY

LAHORE, Oct. 23:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said total elimination of polio disease is a priority agenda of the government.

In his message, the CM maintained all-out resources are utilized to give a healthy future to the children. The Health Department, as well as the administration, is activated to overcome polio disease and I am personally monitoring steps taken in this regard, he added. The Punjab government has devised anti-polio SOPs in the light of WHO guidelines and monitoring of observance of these SOPs is carried out as well, he added. The CM appealed to the parents to administer anti-polio drops to their children to save them from this disease. The society is also duty-bound to play its role for a polio-free Pakistan because the anti-polio drive is aimed at saving the future of the children, concluded the CM.

CM CHAIRS CEREMONY OF SIGNING AGREEMENT OF PUNJAB ROZGAR SCHEME

LAHORE, Oct. 23:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the ceremony of signing an agreement of Punjab Rozgar Scheme at his office on Friday. President of The Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood and MD Punjab Small Industries Corporation Jamil Ahmed Jamil signed the agreement. Provincial Ministers Hashim Jawan Bakht, Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, ACS (Local Govt), Secretary Finance and Secretary Information were also present.  

Talking on the occasion, the CM stated more than 16 lakh needy people will get jobs through this largest employment scheme worth Rs30 billion. Under the agreement, Punjab Bank will provide soft loans to successful applicants. This scheme will make the youth economically self-reliant and the owners of small and medium scale industries, as well as the traders facing financial crunch due to corona pandemic, will be able to develop their businesses, he added.

Giving the details, the CM said loans from one lakh rupees to 10 million rupees will be offered to 20 to 50 years old applicants at the very minimal interest rate. Small loans will be provided for 339 sub-sectors of 23 assorted sectors, including 26 sub-sectors of the textile industry. This scheme will promote cottage industry, he added. The government plans to transform individual skills as an investment and this scheme will prove a gamechanger initiative in this regard, he added.

The CM was briefed that 9428 persons have applied for loans; required fee is not deposited with 6138 applications while 3035 applications are submitted along-with fee and PSIC has processed 1619 applications.
