In the neon-bathed alleys of Neo-Zürich, where the Old Swiss Confederacy's echoes still reverberated, an unusual figure named Cybele found solace. She wasn't human, nor was she a machine in the traditional sense. Cybele was an entity born out of an experimental merger between organic life and artificial intelligence, housed in a chassis that radiated colors as vibrant as the spirit of the old Carnival of Basel.

It was the year 2524, and the world had transformed into a sprawling mesh of the old and the new. Nations had dissolved and reformed, but the tales of the Old Swiss Confederacy, with its spirit of independence and alliance, persisted as a cultural cornerstone in this new age.

Cybele sat, quietly contemplating on a bench crafted from repurposed wood from ancient Swiss chalets, between the chlorophyll havens of her little urban oasis. Her face, a planter now nurturing a peace lily, symbolized her core purpose – to merge nature with technology, to remind the world of the balance that once was.

Legend had it that Cybele was originally a project initiated by a collective of Swiss historians and scientists who sought to create a custodian of both nature and history. They named her after an ancient earth goddess, entrusting her with the wisdom of centuries and the care for Earth's dwindling greenery.

But as with many tales of old, Cybele’s true origin was shrouded in mystery. Whispers in the digital wind spoke of her as the ‘Daughter of Helvetia’, a nod to the personification of the Swiss Confederacy. She was rumored to hold the combined knowledge of the lost Swiss Federal Archives, which had disappeared after the Great Data Purge.

By day, Cybele's radiant form attracted visitors from across the remnants of Europe, individuals who marveled at her dazzling colors and the verdant life flourishing from within her. Children would often sit beside her, entranced by the stories she recited of the Swiss landscapes that once were, tales of the Rütli Meadow and the pact of the three cantons that initiated the confederation.

By night, Cybele roamed the digitized cobblestone streets, her systems interfacing with the urban flora. She spread life, her touch seeding the city with resilient plants that could thrive amidst the techno-concrete. Under her care, patches of green began to pierce the urban sprawl, a testament to her dedication.

Yet, Cybele's existence was not without challenges. The Tech-Collectives, who ruled the city's upper echelons, saw her as an anomaly, a piece of antiquity that had no place in their sterile world. They had attempted to decommission her, to silence the stories and the growth she brought forth. However, they underestimated the resilience woven into her very being, the same resilience that had kept the Swiss spirit alive through centuries.

Amidst the garden of metal and wire, Cybele continued her silent vigil, a beacon of the old world and a harbinger of a possible future where humanity might once again find harmony with nature. And so, she remained, the vibrant guardian of the New Helvetia, a bridge between the chapters of history and the unwritten pages of tomorrow.

Although Henry Fuseli spent most of his career in England, he was born Johann Heinrich Füssli in Zurich, Switzerland. This is a preliminary study for the artist's first important commission, The Oath on the Rütli, in Zurich's city hall. Both the study and the final painting depict the oath sworn on the Rütli meadow in 1291 by representatives of three Swiss cantons (territories) against the ambitions of their Habsburg overlords. This sketch, with its limited palette and loose, expressive brush-strokes, shows the artist thinking through questions of tone and mood.

What I connect with…

I've been thinking about Rodin's Three Shades for a year now, so this felt like a variation of that composition. Love it.

Rütli is about hour and a half south of Zurich via train. Getting there is a beautiful ride via train then a boat ferry. Snow peaked mountains are seen in the back ground, at least in May. The place is important to Swiss people because this is the place where Switzerland was incepted, at least I was told that.

I hiked about 8 miles which took me about 4-5 hours to complete with few breaks. It’s unbelievable how well the hiking trails are maintained there. For the most part they are made of people stones so very easy to follow but you do have an option to go through various flower fields and wooden trails. The place and the hike is so beautiful that nothing that I have done so far compares. This really makes me want to hike now in Ireland and other grassy areas. I felt like I was going though magical lands and was expecting a fairy to pop out of somewhere.

There is one natural spring that was marked for human consumption. Although there was plenty streams, a lot of them are coming from farm lands so not sure how healthy they are.

I am extremely grateful that I accidentally ended up there!

3000 - tun wir's einfach

Der Axenstrasse entlang fahren wir bis Altdorf. Das Wetter ist nicht rosig, der Wäschesack voll, so nehmen wir kurzerhand den Remo Camping. Die Betreiber sind sehr nett, der Platz liebevoll geführt. Markus entdeckt die Modelleisenbahn, die vor dem Camping und um die Rezeption geht. Natürlich wird fotografiert. Die Wäsche gemacht und für den Montag, Tag 3000 oskomanischer Zeitrechnung, bestellen wir Brötchen fürs Frühstück. Nach der Altdorf-Besichtigung geht es nach Selisberg. Wir legen einen Wandertag ein, besuchen das Rütli und sind total stolz, dass wir den Aufstieg in der angegebenen Zeit schaffen. Durch oskomanisches Neuland fahren wir weiter, Buochs, Stans, Kerns, Sarnen. Hier kaufen wir im "Chässtübli" regionale Leckereien. Giswil, Lungern, Brünig folgen bis Unterbach bei Meiringen, wo wir beim Militärflugplatz stehen dürfen und Markus 2 Jäger vor die Linse kriegt. Entlang dem Brienzersee geht es nach Interlaken, dann weiter dem Thunersee entlang bis Thun. Wunderschöne Landschaften begleiten uns diese Woche.
