If R. A. Salvatore can unironically use the phrase "his lavender orbs" on a regular in a 13 (i think its 13?) novel series then we're allowed to be a little cringe as well

Scrolling through the RAS AMA for Jarlaxle gossip and it doesn’t disappoint
Rejoice Jarlaxle and Loki fans.
Tumblr media
Jarlaxle threatening the author. Kimmuriel can portal into the writers room, you just know it.
Tumblr media
Even RAS can’t remember every Jarlaxle trick
Tumblr media
Side note I also found this. Maybe it’s because I’m too used to artists replying questions like this with ‘ahh I’m being cancelled’ or joining a hate cult. Or ignoring these important questions in an ama. It’s kinda refreshing to see an author admit it’s all on himself and own the responsibility and potentially explore where it comes from in them at least. Hope for taking feedback seriously, rather than blaming the reader for asking. Plus 100% clocked he was old time catholic, Lolth priestess are absolutely nun coded for me, if you ever read their history in Ireland. Wish Afrafrenfere would come back with his boyfriend and bring Ambergris back too I miss her.

Reading R. A Salvatore books are very frustrating.
Why are they so good?! How am I able to concentrate on the story for chapters on end?
The last hundred or so books I've read have all been 40k/black library, and while I love the characters and the plot, boy, can they be a slog sometimes. I have at moments started to question my ability to even read anymore.
Im not gonna stop reading 40k, but boy do I wish they had more talented writers. (or at least a few more editors 😅)

“Drizzt had always suspected it, but now it was confirmed, that “welcome” was his favorite word in the Common Tongue, and a word, he understood, with no equivalent in the language of the drow.”

I will say, while my close companionship with Artemis is a treasure of mine, it seems rather expanded in the “fanfic” culture. Many of you are rather creative. I have more variety to read than past opportunities. What is lacking is my time with so many others. Where are the Dragon Sisters?! And the intimacy of Kimmuriel? And while on Toril I missed my opportunities early on with Zaknafein, I cannot deny the desire!
For his sake, I am glad there are not too many of him. Fitting his personality to words is quite a challenge, so much so that author Salvatore seems to have abandoned it. Where are all of the interactions between him and his son? His granddaughter? You mean to tell me mister Dad is content to let be on his legacy?
The cat is out of the bag, as you say, and she is pissed. (So is Drizzt for that matter; how dare anyone bag dear Guenhwyvar!) I stopped reading those books because I deviate so greatly from the later ones. Who wants memories of a worse version of themselves doing things you wouldn’t in a land where all your other friends are (even if they do not behave as you remember)?
I have opinions, and I have met some good friends here in Earth who have shown me the values of Empathy and the potential devastating repercussions of consequence. I let my true friends in, and hide far less than I used to. True friends pry when their companions behave concerningly.
So here I am! A reformed mercenary leader devoting himself to bettering the circumstances of his friends!
And the Cataclysm that brought me here brought a few others with me. I do not intend to fail Zaknafein again. His is a heart worth defending.
And tending, if he will have me.

The epic conclusion to New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore’s electrifying trilogy, The Way of the Drow, finds Drizzt Do’Urden coming to understand his role as a friend, a father, and a man caught between the darkness and the light.
The drow city of Menzoberranzan has fallen into discontent, sowed by the growing legend of the one who escaped: Drizzt Do’Urden. Now many of the drow—including the city’s most powerful house, led by the Matron Mother—are questioning the influence of the Spider Queen and the very history of the city’s founding.
What secrets lie ahead? The drow are determined to find out, and they’ll stop at nothing to dismantle the very structure they’ve called home.
As social tensions rise and the demands for answers boom, a fight erupts between the adherents of Lolth’s chaotic evil and those drow who demand more, demand better. In the Underdark there are only absolutes and no compromise will be found. With winner taking all, Drizzt Do’Urden cannot and will not remain on the sidelines anymore. This will be an uprising Menzoberranzan will never forget, and the rest of the Forgotten Realms won’t be able to look away.
[[ The title and synopsis of the final book in the current Drizzt trilogy has been announced.
Also, is anyone else noticing how these synopses have been doing quite a bit of, “the rest of the shared world that the books don’t go near or even mention most of the time __(will nonetheless revolve around the events of the book)__”?   🤔 ]]

RA Salvatore "We're going on an adventure!! Again!!"
If you had to have a slogan for your writing style? Or your favorite authors? (Think travel poster) what would it be? I'll start a few:
@calaisreno ... 'Always Pining, Always Perfect'
@totallysilvergirl ... 'Angst is Where the Heart Finds a Home'
@clueda ... 'The More You Want, The More You Wait'
@chriscalledmesweetie ... 'All is Fun and Games Til Somebody Loses Their Trousers'
@therealsaintscully ... 'Find Me In the River Weeping with You'
@7-percent ... 'All You Want, Is Less Regrets, Let's Haiku'
@sherlockedcarmilla ... 'The Only Place Hotter is Hell Itself'

Someone uploaded part of RAS at comic con
Not sure if you have to join fb group but highlights
- there’s always been ‘this is last book’ since 1980s. He thought generations might be last which he didn’t like because he had starlight enclave in his mind for 15 years.
- funny story where his sister asked him ‘did you base Briza on me’
- he talks about dealing with changes in new DnD editions and how with 4th ed he tried to write accurate fight in woods with Artemis and it almost killed him for how hard it was. And changes to drow infrared vision.
- he talks about the webtoon and his ideas for that story (no word on it if webtoon is still planned). But not sure if he also talks plot to new book. Spoilers below the line for plot
- Bruenor wants to add portal to open up icewind dale to Gauntlgrym as they have with Luskan, mithril hall and long saddle. Sounds like dwarves making this journey there was going to be breezys first adventure.
- he also wanted to write breezy coming out of her parents shadow. He shared his daughter struggled with this because kids in her school would come to her birthday party, not for her, but to meet the author dad. How heartbreaking that was

More and more I wish Earthsea had got the adaptation it deserved. An adaptation that loved and valued the incredible power of these books. An adaptation that captured the heart of Earthsea, it's gentle, stern atmosphere, it's passion and it's fire. And most importantly, an adaptation NOT JUST FULL OF WHITE PEOPLE. It's insulting.
Nowadays, fantasy adaptations are so key to bringing a fanbase and attention to older works. So this is my plea - read them! They're such incredible works of fiction, with POC mains and queer characters. If you're a fan of LOTR or WOT this is your jam. If you like Brandon Sanderson or James Islington, give it a go.
If they've passed you by, or you've never got round to reading them, this is your sign.
READ EARTHSEA

There’s actually an old book called A Reader’s Guide to R.A Salvatore’s The Legend of Drizzt that confirms this. This is what it says in one of the entries on Jarlaxle:
Tumblr media
The book was published in 2008 so a lot of its information is out of date now, but I always liked that little detail.
Ngl I kinda think Jarlaxle's leg never fully healed from the events of Legacy. We know Triel didn't fully heal it, and he had to get back to Menzoberranzan on his own. No matter how quickly and how far he can teleport, he still had to take a few steps on a broken leg. I think it's hard to notice, but Jarlaxle now walks with a very very slight limp.
