do the cats have a word for airplanes !

Clan cats often see them flying far, far overhead. At Sanctuary Lake, they are in a nature reserve far away from any airports. Back in the White Hart, they flew a bit lower.

What they notice most about them is the long, white lines that they leave in the air. Humans call them contrails. Clan cats call them Geefweef, from a corruption of Geepha (thin) and Wifha (thin cloud) that's become a very silly word in the mouths of whimsied, cloudgazing cats.

And the strange creature that makes a geefweef has had its named shortened over time in a similar way. Is it a heron? Is it some sort of sky fish? No, surely, that strange thing is some sort of water bird. A gull, or perhaps a duck. Duck ended up sticking just by chance.

This phrase became,

Clan cats believe that the contrails the planes leave in the sky are long, satisfying claw marks it makes. Similar to the pleasure they feel when they drag their claws down along bark. They're blissfully unaware that the creatures are human inventions.

But, of course, there are some cats with different theories. When Tigerheart sought Dovewing, she encountered a train for the first time. As the horrible iron monster thundered past, with a blunt snout and running along its rails in the ground, she made a connection. This is another kind of geefweef, isn't it?!

These are the same kind of creature, she deduced, like a glowworm. One sex that flies and one sex that crawls... and she HATES both of them now.

He doesn't understand a word of what the little thing is saying which isn't that surprising, is it? But it's cute and definitely in danger if it keeps on the ground.

Aventurine tries to scoop the animal into his hands wondering how his home's safety is unable to keep critters out. He'll have to look into that eventually. “Did you get lost?”
