DP3 - The Lost Boys: “It’s OK to Cry”
Week 6:
During the reading week, instead of proceeding to design the larger programme of the building, I decided to dedicate my time to make the cockling tools which I can take to the site and use them as tools to design the buildings as well as storing them as part of the interiors of the future spaces.
I designed and made:
A Ghost Jumbo (the one with two handles), which is a traditional English tool that softens and smoothen the sand before and after collecting the cokes.
A Ghost Rake, which digs up the cockles and filter the small ones out.
A Quyuan Plow, which is a Chinese traditional farming tool that can be useful to gather the cockles in the deep layers of the beach.
I should now start designing the larger picture of the building, and communicate the organization of spaces in plans and sections and diagrams for two weeks after (with strategic env and structural Ideas).
I need to privilege the environmental requirement for each space and communicate the decision making, by using a group diagrams
I should use structural diagrams to communicate the two systems, one that decays and one that stays as memorial.
I need to consider how the decaying of concrete would not harm the local environment; and consider reusing the steel and timber in my building in other projects along the beach as I am designing for decaying.
Putting time reverse at the forefront of the next move, playing with human optical perception, rereading of the sands in three different times

Chinese Dragon Boat Festival Greeting from Refine Medical
#ChineseDragonBoatFestival is also #DuanWuJie or #DoubleFiveFestival in China. The festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It was derived from the activities of commemorating a great patriot poet, #QuYuan, who served in the court of #EmperorHuai during the #WarringStates (475-221BC). The most delicious #TraditionalFood for the #DragonBoatFestival is #ZongZi, a glutinous rice ball, with a filling, wrap ped in corn leaves. The fillings can be meat, peanut, dates, mushrooms, or a combination of them. #DragonBoatRaces are the most exciting part of the festival, drawing crowds of spectators. #DragonBoats are generally brightly painted and decorated canoes. Ranging anywhere from 40 to 100 feet in length. Accordingly, a team of 20-80 rowers can power the boat. A drummer and flag-cather stand at the front of the boat. Competing #DragonBoatTeams drive their boat forward to the rhythm of beating drums.

Dragon Boat Festival 🐲🛶 端午節 The story best known in modern China holds that #DragonBoatFestival commemorates the death of the poet and minister #QuYuan (c. 340–278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu during the Warring States period of the Zhou Dynasty. A cadet member of the Chu royal house, Qu served in high offices. However, when the king decided to ally with the increasingly powerful state of Qin, Qu was banished for opposing the alliance and even accused of treason. During his exile, Qu Yuan wrote a great deal of poetry. Twenty-eight years later, Qin captured Ying, the Chu capital. In despair, Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River. It is said that the local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him, or at least retrieve his body. This is said to have been the origin of dragon boat races. When his body could not be found, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan's body. This is said to be the origin of #zongzi.

Chinese poems 2
You say that you love rain,
but you open your umbrella when it rains...
You say that you love the sun,
but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines...
You say that you love the wind,
But you close your windows when wind blows...
This is why I am afraid;
You say that you love me too...
但是下雨的时候你却撑开了伞;
你却躲在阴凉之地;
你说烟雨微芒,兰亭远望;
你说春光烂漫,绿袖红香;
你说软风轻拂,醉卧思量;
你说情丝柔肠,如何相忘;
(The ancient Book of Song version) — My favorite Version.
(Li Sao version, which is the materpiece of Quyuan. B.C 278)
(Poetry with Five Characters, which mean each line only contains five characters.)
( Seven-character quatrain, which is one of the most representative forms of the Tang poetry. )
(Seven-syllable)
Each of the lines are in a same Character amount.
All of the translations full convey the full meaning of the original English counterpart, especially the The ancient Book of Song version which only contains 32 characters.
We love this kind of art. Not forced.

Fisherman
Quyuan was exiled, passing by the river; walking and singing, ill faced and weak thin.
A fisherman saw and asking: Aren't you the king's counselor, why you down here? Quyuan answered: The whole world nasty except me, people all drunk I awake alone, that's why.
The fisherman said: Wise men compromise on hard times, and adaptable to the evolving world. Nasty world why not accept and aggravate it, people all drunk why not join and enjoy yourself, why you so different and rejected.
Quyuan said: I hear, a man washed hair will clear the hat, a man bathed will change clean dress. How can a noble man enslaved to the dirty things? Rather jumping to the river, feed my body to fishes; will never let crystal covered by dusts.
The fisherman smiled, beating the boat side and leaving. Singing echoed: The river water clear, I can wash my hair; the river water muddy, I can wash my feet. Gone and no more words.
(A Chinese ancient poem by Quyuan, translation by EastMyst)
