01/17/25 - The Fish Tie Outfit

Diary Entry #1:

Stopping Traffic

While walking to class, a driver did a double-take towards me, almost missing his turn. When he swerved his tires squealed. I’ve thought a lot about it since.

I wonder what part of my outfit specifically caught his attention. The traffic-cone orange tights? The fish tie? …My dashing good looks?

Similarly, in my Spanish class, a group of students in the front kept giggling and turning to look at me. It became so obnoxious another classmate of mine stood up for me and told them to leave me alone.

In truth, I thought they were looking back at me to see if they were annoying me. I assumed they were being considerate. Lol. Bullying didn’t even cross my mind.

The girl who defended me got told to fuck off. I feel guilty as I feel grateful. Terribly confusing.

Speaking of confusing, a have a crush on a boy. It’s an oddity to me.

He is so different from the gaggle of women-basketball players I usually find myself involved.

I’m careful around men. I’ve found they share a proclivity to lying about the important things. This is a bias, of course, but one I keep to myself.

He’s large, blonde, ex military, and unexpectedly soft-spoken. Even to his peers, not just the 5’0 Fish-Tie girl. Very admirable.

I also have a friend crush in that same class. That is not unusual, of course.

Making friends is my favorite part about college.

It should be writing or learning, but those rear close seconds to meeting new people. As a former social pariah in highschool, it’s nice being the “cooky” girl instead of the “weird” girl. That has been an important shift as I’ve gotten older.

Not everyone loved the fish tie, but she did. I guess that’s all that matters.

Journaling is hard. I’m not used to it.

Hopefully it will get easier.
