Candleberry, a shady druid who lives in the underground and loves to make things burn! I think my idea to incorporate their multiple sets of eyes was pretty clever. One of my last D&D characters before we switched to Pathfinder! (2022)

Rant about g5 of mlp to me king
Ever since G5 MLP premiered in late 2021 with MLP:A New Generation, I feel like G5 is just getting worse and worse with each new episode. I mean, the movie was mediocre in my opinion, but what I disliked about the movie was the transition to CGI animation, the movie being exclusively on Netflix, which me and thousands of other fans and kids can't afford and is constantly increasing prices every month and is advertising ridiculously aggressively all over the world, the generation taking place thousands of years in the future after G4, and most especially Pipp's cringy mobile phone social media streamer selfie addiction, which I know is just a cheap and dated attempt by Netflix and Hasbro to pander to the children, when selfies had already been around since 2013.
The two animated series, Make Your Mark and Tell Your Tale, that followed after the movie wasn't any better, in fact they actually got worse, with the animation becoming way more cheaper and low budget filled with animation errors, and the intensifying on Pipp's mobile phone social media streaming addiction, which I can't even watch at this point. And another point, G5 made no effort to add or even mention almost all of the other creatures and races seen in G4 MLP, like bat ponies, gryphons and the Windigos, which makes me believe that the writers and crew of G5 MLP have never even watched G4 MLP before. The worst part? G5 MLP makes it look like that all of Twilight's and her friends's efforts in G4 were totally useless, as in the G5 movie the pony races were back to hating each other, like nothing ever happened, which doesn't make any sense in my opinion. In addition, the personalities of the main characters are so one sided. Like, Izzy is the quirky Pinkie Pie clone, Hitch is the one weird male guy who likes animals and takes care of that Sparky baby dragon, and Sunny is just there for some reason, who became an alicorn at the end of the first G5 movie for just putting together some magic stones that didn't even exist in G4 MLP. And Pipp doesn't even need to be mentioned, as everyone knows her social media addiction by this point. And Sparky, that baby Cocomelon-esque dragon is so annoying! I can barely watch any episodes of G5 MLP without having him make fart jokes and overall being a annoying mute character that Netflix and Hasbro thinks the girls see as "cute", but he's definitely not cute or even laugh-worthy at all.

“Wow, wow, wowwwww, I’ve never heard of a Pony having a Unicorn horn and Pegasus wings before.” Izzy joyfully pestered Sunny whilst the “glow-up” glowed down.
Sunny was bittersweet to see the aetherius wings and horns disappear but it did feel good to be herself. For all her hard work trying to unite all Pony kind, she had never actually envied either the Pegasi or the Unicorns for their bombastic displays of magic. Flight, levitation, all that sounds pretty cool but nothing sounded cooler to Sunny than just being herself. Still, her smile was half let down once the transformation faded.
“My Father told me that a Pony who possesses all types of magic is called an Alicorn and traditionally, they were Princesses.”
“Princesses?!” Izzy gasped, eyes going wide. “Like Zipp and Pipp?”
Sunny nodded her head, “Yep, exactly like Zipp and Pipp.”
“I think I have an idea!” Izzy squealed. She bounced up and down on all her hooves, her mane and tail flouncing about in her excitement.
Enchanted, Sunny kept nodding along with Izzy’s bubbling excitement, her head bobbing up and down herself and even her tail flicked.
“I want to see you tomorrow at my cottage in Bridlewood Forest, by noon sharp, promise.” Izzy said, she was speaking really, really fast, Sunny could barely understand her. “I need to get to work.”
“O-Oh, okay.” Sunny said and she wished her friend goodbye but Izzy had already taken off like a bottle rocket.
Sunny was left in the pixie dust and was sort of bittersweet about that as well. She had been half hoping that Izzy - as well as Zipp - could stay over for the night. Then again, it's not like she had anywhere for them to stay since Sprout had destroyed her house. Hitch had, fortunately, pitched in and was going to let Sunny stay with him until repairs to the Lighthouse were finished, or at least up to code for living but still. It would have been nice for Earth Pony, Unicorn, and Pegasus to all spend one night together under a roof for the first time in many, many moons.
Sure enough, Zipp and Pipp had to regrettably leave as well. There were conferences to have and good graces to earn again in Zephyr Heights so Sunny said goodbye to the sisters and soon enough, Maritime Bay was populated only by Earth Ponies again. It wouldn’t be like that forever, Sunny was sure, but with the sun set and it was getting late, so such sureness would have to wait for tomorrow.
At least tomorrow was exciting. Sunny could hardly sleep in Hitch’s guest room because she was looking forward to going back and meeting Izzy at her cottage in Bridlewood Forest. Although Sunny could also hardly sleep because her precious childhood home had been partially destroyed was quite depressing but Sunny was determined to look on the bright side. So, she snuggled in under the blanket and reminded herself, it was only temporary and Phyllis had been kind enough to loan out her workers to Sunny since it had been her son who had spearheaded the destruction.
In the morning, Sunny was surprised by how much rest she did get. She had even slept in; Hitch had gone off to work but had been kind enough to leave some breakfast out for her. So, she ate the fruit salad and yogurt that Hitch had been kind enough to prepare for her and started to plot the trek ahead of her. Once her belly was full, she locked the door behind her and what a beautiful, brand new day it was.
She could feel the wings that she didn’t have twitch with excitement as she soaked in the morning sunlight. It felt good on her back as she raced through the fields on the outskirts of town, bolting towards her friend’s place. She was giddy. Her friend, the Unicorn, lived out this way and was expecting her for something today. She absolutely couldn’t let herself be late for something so important and precious.
Arriving at Bridlewood Forest, Sunny could already see the changes that the return of magic and friendship and magic of friendship had brought. The signs disparaging the other tribes of Ponies had been brought down and in their place, welcome posts had been made. Sunny was ecstatic as there was no longer a bar to duck under or jump over but merely a path into the vibrant woods of Bridlewood Forest.
And they were vibrant. They weren’t dark and foreboding like before, littered with wilted flowers and dull crystals. This was now a place of vivacity, befitting the Unicorn population which had perked up some literally overnight. The crystal spires that jutted out of the soft earth glowed gently; the flowers bloomed brightly. There was a hop and a step in the hooves of the foals and even the adults who had been so long used to the moroseness, carried more of a smile than before. Walking past a few, Sunny overheard a few upbeat couplets of slam poetry here and there.
Her heart pounded the closer and closer she got to Izzy’s cottage and before she could knock on the door, it burst open. Izzy was grinning in the doorway, the door itself banging and clanging as it recoiled with her enthusiasm. She was trotting on the spot, unable to contain her excitement as she shuffled Sunny inside.
Sunny was all but dragged by her mane inside Izzy’s cottage as she was just so happy that Sunny was here. Once more, Sunny was enraptured by the utter treasure trove which was the interior of Izzy’s cottage. The outside, like many exteriors to many cottages around, was rather unassuming in mossy, forestry colours but the inside was a cacophony that truly made Izzy, well, Izzy. Her macaroni art and her glass bottles that made music. It was all so vivacious and quirky, there was something new and intriguing in every nook.
“Here you go, sit down, have a spot of tea.” Izzy said to be a good hostess but by the gleam of glee in her eye, it was clear that she hadn’t just invited Sunny over for a drink.
But to be a good guest, Sunny parked herself in front of the unfurling rose table and had poured herself some tea. Izzy watched eagerly but before Sunny could bring the rim of her teacup to her lips, Izzy spoke.
“I have a present for you!” she announced.
Sunny smiled gently, “I would love to open it.”
“Oh, you don’t have to, I didn’t gift wrap it becauuuuse,” Izzy’s voice trailed off and her horn glowed with a silver aura and Sunny gasped, watching Izzy do magic was just as much a present to Sunny as any material good but even so, she was delighted by the gift, “I wanted to give you a little show.”
Izzy laced a circlet over Sunny’s head. Her ears flicked as she tried to be helpful as Izzy’s magic graced her all the same as the precious little circlet that she had made for Sunny. She grinned as she looked up, trying to catch hints of the way light bounced off the various crystals that she was now adorned with. The circlet was the same sort of accessory that Izzy wore at the back of her head, dangling crystals on a thin, woven braid.
“Look, I made it from amethysts and topaz. Amethysts since they’re lavender-coloured, just like your sparkle, and topazes because I think yellow complements purple quite nicely.” Izzy explained with a smile. “The amethysts will enhance your natural intuition and the topazes will attract good fortune.”
“Thank you, Izzy, I will cherish this very kind gift forever.” Sunny replied with an earnest smile and even more gracious voice.
“Your welcome, it's only fitting that a princess has something of a tiara.” Izzy replied and she trotted closer to Sunny, initiating a warm and fuzzy nuzzle between them. “You may not have your horn and wings forever but trust me, you have all the qualities of an Alicorn Princess regardless.”
“You are too kind, Izzy.” Sunny murmured as she enjoyed the weight of the crystal accessory upon her brow.

The Show is Reborn, Pt. II
Looking back on Season 4, it's easy to define it by keys and trees, since that is the long arc storyline of the season after all. It's easy to define it by Twilight's growth, or by world building choices. However, there were some rather subtle but consistent evolutions in their storytelling style that also took shape in this time period - ones that would grow to characterize the entire second half of the series.
Season 3 had made some very abrupt and drastic changes (reformation of Discord, Alicorn Twilight), and the future success of the show hinged on their follow up to that. I've already written about how amazing a job the Season 4 premiere did at that very task, but the episodes that come after it also adhere to a particular pattern.
They all look to build the show's future by honoring the show's past. Until this point, the show had still been fairly new - too new to really wax nostalgic about itself.
The premiere, however, covered a great deal of previously underdeveloped ground. We got to actually see cataclysmic, world-changing historical events that had, until that point, only been described briefly, but never actually depicted. This episode went back and showed us the battle between Celestia and Nightmare Moon; it showed us the battle between the princesses and Discord. It showed us what the Elements of Harmony used to look like, and what function that weird fountain-looking thing in the pilot actually had.
Castlemania, the episode immediately after that, built on the Castle of the Two Sisters - a location vitally important to Equestrian history and lore, but never even mentioned outside of the pilot. Daring Don't took a much beloved one-shot concept from Read it and Weep and developed it into a piece of the actual My Little Pony universe. Flight to the Finish finally finally finally finally finally addressed the fact that Scootaloo couldn't fly.
These may seem like obvious developments, but if you look at early seasons, apart from Cutie Mark Chronicles' use of the sonic rainboom, the return of Princess Luna in Luna Eclipsed, and a few references to Starswirl the Bearded, there are no callbacks whatsoever. (All the aforementioned episodes were written by MA Larson, by the way; let that sink in).
When Season 4 came out, the show was changing, and growing further from its original vision. They started anchoring episodes in early lore, and expanding undeveloped ideas from earlier seasons, and that philosophy - that self-awareness - is what grounded the series for years to come.
Now obviously, not every episode does this. In fact, a lot of Season 4 episodes are characterized by completely new experiments - quirky high concept episodes like Power Ponies and Bats. However, my point isn't that Season 4 evolved on nostalgia alone, but rather, that bold new ideas like these would have felt wildly out of place if the creative team hadn't made a conscious decision to anchor the show in its own roots.
People are kind of like that too. Most folks spend their entire adult life either running away from, or running toward their childhoods. (Usually a mixture of both). I would argue that that is how we all grow - moving forward by looking back.

May Feature: A Spoiler For Set 12
This month, I was wondering and worrying about what I ought to cover for the feature article. I could have continued with Purple’s history compilation, but the motivation to put the research in wasn’t really there this month. That left me with only a few days to spare and no idea what I was going to write about. Luckily, I was saved by a fortuitous piece of information sent my way by the Commentary is Magic folks. I’ve dropped a couple of hints about it in recent days, and while there hasn’t quite been the flurry of speculation that I was hoping to incite, I don’t think there’s much point in waiting any longer. Plus I couldn’t think of any different decks to use the card in (not at time of writing this, at least, more on that below), unless I guess some sort of alicorn thing. Anyway, here it is.
No surprises really to see a nice Celestia card coming from me. In fact I had hoped that would be a big clue: that I was the person doing the spoiling. But I think that it’s a really interesting card, so let me explain a bit about it.
Quirkiness
My favourite cards to see are the ones where my first response is, “Hmm, let me go check the rules really quick to confirm something…” There are a number of such points to mention here, so let’s start with those.
(514.3d) Involvement in a faceoff at a Problem does not flag any cards; which cards are involved in a faceoff is continuously checked, and cards can become involved or cease to be involved in a faceoff as they begin or cease to fit the description specified by the effect, modifier, or rule that started the faceoff. Players that become involved
in a faceoff remain involved in the faceoff for the duration of the faceoff.
This one struck me as interesting right away, since it seemed to imply that even if Celestia took a character out of a location-based faceoff, which is to say, Troublemaker faceoffs or Problem faceoffs, the game would override it right away and put the character back in because it was still present at the location.
However, just as characters which aren’t at the location can become involved if modifiers involve them (like UR Ember), characters which are at the location can cease to become involved if a modifier makes it happen. Thus, we can indeed take a character out of a location-based faceoff using Celestia’s ability.
The reason I found this most important comes back to the first deck that I built and first posted on Friday. As I mentioned for that deck, Celestia’s inclusion decreases the risk associated with losing Troublemaker faceoffs, and that’s because of this rule:
(514.6b) If the challenger loses a Troublemaker Faceoff, the challenger must send one of his characters that was involved in the Faceoff home. (italics mine)
You’ll note that it does not say “one of their characters at the Problem where the Faceoff was resolved”, but instead simply “one of his characters that was involved in the Faceoff”. Thus, if we have a character who was involved in the faceoff and which is already at home, it follows that we should be able to choose that character and therefore not send anything home. This effectively means that we can always challenge Troublemakers without having to worry about the usual penalty for failure. In my opinion this has the chance to offer Yellow a leg up against Chaos Control, in whatever form it re-emerges as, since it means we have a chance to burn through their Chaos options by being able to start two Troublemaker faceoffs every turn without having to worry about losing them. It also helps a bit with Farming, as I tried to do in the deck above, as a reliable 4 Power that can be in any faceoff. It’s also really nice with CN Chrysalis because we can order Chryssie’s trigger first, and have Celestia replace whichever character got exhausted.
Novo Gets Cut
Now, all of that is pretty cool, but in evaluating the card I had another clue given to me which also proved very useful. In addition to giving me the picture, GP was kind enough to include the name that the card had masqueraded under during testing: “GET DOWN, MR. PRINCESS!” A fitting name indeed, but an astute follower of the CiM Q & A sessions will remember that this isn’t the first time we have heard it. In fact, during their earlier stream Aracat had mentioned, using this name, that this was one of his favourite cards in the whole set. Knowing that, I immediately assumed that there must be multiple dimensions and strategies in which it would prove useful. Thus, we come to Saturday’s deck.
Generally, in addition to this tricky stuff, it’s fair to note that Celestia offers a decent protection against opposing Faceoff effects. In particular, with a single +1 Power counter and an Ember on the field, she can offer global protection against opposing Staff-faceoffs while also becoming unremovable. And I surely must admit, I’ve always been a sucker for unremovable cards. Indeed, what with all of the Persistent coming into Yellow and Orange lately, Yellow/Orange may be a nice avenue to explore for that reason.
But that’s not what I was trying to do with Saturday’s deck. Instead, I wanted to make use of a lot of cards that normally can’t contribute their Power to faceoffs. Simply put, I could get the efficiency of cost that often comes with these cards, without paying the faceoff penalty since Celestia would just come in and replace them. Now, unfortunately, there aren’t actually that many great cards left for this now that Marble Pie has rotated out. Hopefully there’s some more coming in the new set. That leaves us essentially with Rumble, Seashells, and Celestia & Luna. All fine cards honestly, but especially Rumble who suddenly pairs brilliantly with Nurturing Nature in a world where Buckball Strategy exists.
So now, putting Celestia into a deck like this allows us to take an archetype known for being so good at losing faceoffs that Novo was often a good choice, and turn it into one that’s should have a fair chance at winning most of its faceoffs, and indeed do so without sacrificing the aggro efficiency that makes it so good in the first place. And the inclusion of Agile and other Immediate-speed movement may sometimes allow us to pull the same Troublemaker tricks as the first deck does. Pairing Celestia with an Agile Friend in your deck also allows her to effectively join any faceoff that’s happening, though you do have to predict them in advance, since her trigger can only activate as the faceoff is starting. A Swift Agile Friend is naturally even better, which is a fine indication of where the card could go when paired with Blue.
While I unfortunately don’t have a third deck to finish off with today, I’ll note that the more I think about this Yellow/Orange thing, the more I’m intrigued by it. Orange has its own fair share of Persistent Friends, after all, and it’s worth noting that Celestia’s four printed Power makes her work with Limestone’s ability. I’ve always wanted a deck based on unremovable Friends to be worth playing around with, and it’s possible this is another step in that right direction.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the card, and I think it lives up to the intrigue that an SR demands. If the rest of Set 12 keeps up like this, then it should be a good one.

Nobody's sure *what* Basket!AU Discord is because he's always coming in various masks and wildly-mismatching outfits. But he gets the jobs done well so the faculty let it slide.
Mmm, I don’t think that very much fits him. Like, the mismatching absolutely, but I don’t know if he’d go through such lengths to mask himself so well that no one knows what he is; I don’t know if the school would trust someone who hides his identity whenever he’s in public either. Additionally I think Discord would be too proud of the way he looks to hide his face.
So I’m afraid I’m gonna pass on that suggestion and just say he’s a draconequus and that his species is indeed existing but they aren’t necessarily native to Equestria either (maybe alicorns exist too, they just won’t be like all-powerful). What I can see him doing, though, is maybe changing up his limbs with an illusion to make them look mismatched to go with his whole “disheveled” and quirky look: on Mondays his arms are normal, on Tuesday he has the arms and paws of a lion, on Wednesday his horns change, Thursday his tail changes, Friday he suddenly has no wings and a mustache, small things that undeniably change in appearance but fundamentally he himself remains the same.

My Little Pony: The Movie review
Here’s a movie I guess I wasn’t expecting too much from. I like the show, I like most of the characters, and I didn’t expect this to be bad or anything, but somehow it actually managed to impress me a fair bit. By far, this is the best animated movie of the year (which isn’t saying too much because the other animated films were Lego Batman, The Emoji Movie, and Leap!, all of which ranged from okay to awful), and a pretty cute and enjoyable experience… though there are a few hiccups here and there. Ah, nopony’s perfect.
The story concerns Twilight Sparkle, everyone’s favorite alicorn princess, as she prepares to throw her very own celebration! What could possibly go wrong? Well, Tempest Shadow, a unicorn with a broken horn working for the evil Storm King, shows up and easily incapacitates Luna, Celestia, and Cadence without even breaking a sweat. Twilight and the gang manage to escape, and having overheard Clestia tell Luna to find the “Queen of the hippos” beyond Equestria’s borders, they set out to get aid. However, Tempest is hot on their tails, and she really wants the promised shiny new horn the Storm King has offered her in return for draining the magic out of all the princesses. Can the Mane Six find the help they need, or is the Storm King going to win?
So let’s talk about the animation first, since it’s quite a bit fancier than what they use in the show. For the most part, it is very good; Tempest Shadow in particular is so beautifully animated with every movement of her head and every step she takes that it’s just breathtaking. There’s some conspicuous CGI here and there though, and sometimes the animation can get a bit weird looking on the pony’s faces, but it’s not really too bad… it’s just not something I think the show should ever do all the time.
Now onto the real meat of this review: the new characters. And the character I will be lavishing the most praise upon is Tempest Shadow herself, who is a fantastic and enjoyable antagonist. Just the way she carries herself, how she talks, how she fights… and that’s not getting into her fascinating concept, a unicorn whose horn has broken, causing her magic to go haywire! It’s such a neat concept, and they do touch on it just enough to hook you. Overall, Tempest is a truly enjoyable character, and the best new character in the movie. Best of all, she gets an awesome villain song that showcases her backstory!
The other characters are all mostly interesting. Grubber, played by Michael Peña, is pretty amusing in his own right, and gets quite a few funny lines; he also acts as a solid foil to Shadow, being her goofy lacky to her more serious antagonist. Capper, played by Taye Diggs, is an enjoyably charming rascal. Captain Celaeno, played by Zoe Saldana, is an enjoyable swashbuckler. And finally, Kristin Chenoweth as Princess Skydancer is entertainingly quirky and amusing. As you may have noticed, all these characters have pretty short summations, and there’s a good reason; most of these characters only appear for a few scenes each and don’t get quite as much to them as Shadow does, though at the very least all of them are memorable and they all get an enjoyable song to accompany them.
And then we have the big bad, the Storm King… and he is quite a mixed bag. His performance as done by Liev Schreiber is excellent, with him switching between being menacing to cheerful at the drop of the hat. However, the Storm King’s most defining trait once he gets his powers is his immense stupidity. For most of the movie he avoids many of the traps villains in family films do, or Tempest Shadow avoids them on his behalf at least; as soon as Storm King gets on the scene though, he makes some of the most dumbass mistakes you could imagine. It’s really disappointing he gets so little screentime and most of said screentime is him being a colossal fuckhead, because he’s a mostly entertaining and cool villain otherwise.
The Mane Six, obviously, are good, but I have to say, Pinkie Pie grated on me even more than she usually does her. She’s honestly a bit of a bitch and causes more problems than she solves, and her attempts at humor weren’t particularly enjoyable save for one or two moments. Rarity and even Fluttershy were much more consistently funny here, especially Rarity. As usual, Applejack just kinda blends in to the surroundings, and Rainbow Dash makes rainbows, dashes, and is overall her usual cocky self. And then there’s Twilight herself, and again: she’s as good as ever. The Mane Six is mostly consistent with how they are in the show, overall, though I can’t reiterate how annoying it is Pinkie’s obnoxiousness was cranked up to 11 here.
As for the story itself, it’s mostly standard stuff with a standard structure for this sort of thing. For those more used to animated films that dwell on and develop things a lot before moving on, this can be frustrating, but it is a format that feels in line with the show. If I can compare this to any one movie, though, it would be Moana; it has the same sort of adventurous feeling and the characters that have a brief establishing scene that gives you some entertainment before continuing on the journey, though in this film at least the new characters come back towards the end. If you like how the show is and how it’s structured, you’ll be okay with this. I don’t think it’s perfectly done, and I feel like a lot of the new characters could have been fleshed out more, but hey, maybe sequels or appearances in the show can help with that!
So yes, overall, this is a really cute, fun movie. Fans of the series are gonna enjoy it, and families will probably enjoy it too. There’s plenty of good jokes, likable characters, and charming songs to go around, and it never really feels bad or boring; at its worst, it feels like a very standard and cliché experience, but not an unenjoyable one. It’s exactly what it should be, and there’s nothing wrong with that; we need more cute, corny animated movies about the power of friendship in these trying times.

Paint.
The late afternoon sun beat down between the trees of a small forest while it illuminated a yellow Pegasus as he glided in and out of the shadows. That flag must be here somewhere. He thought to himself as he creeped deeper into the woods with a gun cradled in his hooves. As he slowly moved forward the Pegasus started to hear voices and soon enough he found himself looking at two unicorns who were standing next to a stick with a blue piece of fabric tied to it. Bingo! He chuckled to himself as he raised his gun and sent to rounds down range splattering both unicorns in neon orange paint.
“Hit!” they yell in unison as they trot towards their respawn area.
The yellow Pegasus stalks towards the flag and is just about to grab it before a voice calls out to him.
“J, I wouldn’t do that if I where you.” States a large light brown Alicorn stallion, his green eyes are filled with amusement as he hefts a chaingun with one hoof while the other strokes his dark brown goatee.
“H-hey Brightmind.” J stammers as he looks between the big pony and the flag. Just do it! J grabs the flag and takes off like a rocket as Brightmind sends a hailstorm of paint balls after him. Shit, shit, shit! J thinks as he ducks and weaves between the trees as fast as his wings will carry him. J somehow managed to avoid every pellet that had been sent his way, but as he rounded the corner to his base his heart dropped at the site before him. Standing on top of a rather large cannon was a black pony with bat wings, a broken horn and a wicked grin on his aged face. “Hey lad guess what I’ve found.” He smirked as J let out a small squeak.
“H-hey Jolly, ummm is it that cannon?” J started to side step in case he needed to make a break for the flag return.
“Ye be right lad, wanna see it work.” Jolly smirked and pulled a cord on the back of the gun sending a wave of paint flying out of the barrel to coat the world and J in a painfully bright neon pink.
“Hit.” J whimpered as he body unstuck itself from the wall it had been pinned to by the blast of paint.
Next to jolly a small blue changeling with a silver mane rolled on the gourd laughing at J’s current coat color.
“Thanks sis.” J huffed as he walked back to re-spawn, the laughter of his friends following him as he let a small smile creep onto his face beneath his mask. @quirky-artzy-muffin @nevikr1 @gentleman-pirate

last movie watched: Amelie, my favorite French film! (also the only French film i’ve ever watched) it’s visually gorgeous, scored by Yann Tiersen, and the story is adorable and quirky. there’s really oddball humor, the main characters are both dorks, and it’s probably one of the loveliest movies i know of
last song listened to: Andrew Bird’s Roma Fade, Spotify Singles edition. i’ve been listening to the two songs on said Spotify Singles album almost non-stop since Christmas
last book read: Louise Gluck’s Averno, which, incidentally, was a Christmas gift! Gluck is a masterclass poet. the book is very thoughtfully designed and laid out, like the best poetry books - each poem feels intentionally placed in the book, as if to put it elsewhere would totally ruin the experience, except the poems are also gorgeous in solitude. the book plays with mythology in a very modern way, which is one of my favorite literary tropes. reading it all in one go, as i did yesterday morning, is a capitol e Experience. 10/10 would recommend
last thing eaten: homemade French bread, because my mom is a goddess of the kitchen. ...that was five hours ago. oops.
if you could be anywhere right now, where would you be: the sappy answer is in @rusalkii ‘s place of origin so that i could hug my girlfriend and keep hugging her and then, like, crash at her hourse. the less sappy answer, because while that would be Excellent it would also be a logistical nightmare and Out Of Routine and a bit difficult to explain, is probably the new tea shop in my hometown. it’s a very comfortable place and surprisingly good for writing a ton of essays
a fictional character you would hang out with for the day: uh. talking to the Feanorians would be extremely interesting, just in general, but i would not want to be dropped in First Age Arda. if i could choose a time in the events, pre-torture Maedhros seems like he would a) be diplomatic in confusing circumstances, b) know things i’d like to know about the Noldor, and c) find modern day Earth interesting and possibly useful. plus i could then grill him about his daily life and his family and what they’re like and how he models the world and the state of Valinor’s embroidery after the death of his grandmother and what Valinorean politics are actually like and do elves have ice skating, i Need To Know, and actually what are everyday interactions with the Valar and Maiar like - etc, etc, etc
what fictional world/universe would you want to spend a week in: um. well. daily life in alicorn and lintamande’s Kandrona seems like it would be super interesting, and that Earth has both extreme weirdness and somewhat sane policies - thanks, Bella! - that would be really, really fun to observe and interact with. plus, if i could take shape-shifting home with me...
last video game played: does Neko Atsume count as a video game
