Something about the story of Sister Chenoeh can get me a little teary-eyed every time.

God Emperor of Dune, part 18
[“]History has a way of magnifying some characteristics while it discards others.[“]
And yet people believe in the Oral History. No, I’m not letting that go, not unless they have a good explanation for why people think it makes any sense that the Oral History isn’t either horribly mangled for spreading for a few millennia or being anything but what Leto wants them to be. It was even mentioned in the last chapter that the Oral History usually spreads through mad prophets, something that would be easy for Leto to fake.
Footnote: Sister Quintinius Violet Chenoeh died in the fifty-third year of her Sisterhood, the cause being ascribed to melange incompatibility during her attempt to achieve the status of Reverend Mother.
She tried to become a Reverend Mother even though she trusted Leto enough to write down his words and hide them. I wonder why, had she convinced herself that Leto was wrong when it was her time to become a Reverend Mother, thinking that “dying before becoming Reverend Mother” surely means “dying before starting the progress of becoming a Reverend Mother”?
You could also take this as Leto murdering her, but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the implication the author was actually going for.
[“]You become here an integral part of my myth. Our distant cousins will pray to you for intercession with me!”
Because of intervening events, the discovery of this private record is now little more than a footnote to history[.]
It’s nice to know that Leto’s wrong sometimes. Honestly, the book would get pretty boring if there wasn’t any danger to Leto failing, even with Siona’s mysterious invisibility to his powers. Especially when we’ve been repeatedly told and shown that Leto doesn’t see Siona as a threat.
