A hidden sanctuary,
in the heart of York, England. I suspect the majority of residents let alone tourists know of this very secluded corner.

Avpd culture is seeing that you have a discord and thinking -hey, maybe that's somewhere I can actually meet people to make some connections with- but then just... not joining.

Am I allowed to say that I don't like three houses? Because I don't. It's boring and not fun.
People have told me that Fódlan has interesting and in depth world building but it's presented in a way that's so boring that I just don't care. I think the most interesting way any world building was presented was the the three hopes Ignatz-Slyvain support where they examine an old painting of a previous archbishop and one of them makes an off hand comment about how it looks like Rhea. Nothing is stated outright but the player can pretty easily figure out what's going on here. But most of the world building is just text in the libraries. The world building of places outside of Fódlan is also really messy. Like supposedly the church has been suppressing technological development but if that were the case why aren't countries like Almyra, Sreng, Bridged, Dagda etc. just dogpiling Fódlan? They should be able to easily defeat the countries in Fódlan but they just don't. The Alliance is able to stop Almyran incursions at Fódlan's throat, the kingdom defends themselves from Sreng without much issue, and the empire won a war against Bridget and took Petra hostage. Like the alliance and kingdom at least have a few of the heroes relics that they can hide behind but the empire has none, Amyr was made by TWSITD and the other imperial house holds don't have a relic for their crests.
Even if the outside world wasn't that much more advanced then Fódlan, why wouldn't the underground society of "We Hate Fódlan" who have magic nuclear bombs not arm the countries outside of Fódlan? TWSITD are such a stupid set of bad guys they are actually so, so, so dumb. They could have been a set of bad guys for the three leaders to rally around because as we see in the 3 hopes durring chapter; "The Girl Gang Goes to Zaharas" they all agree on what the problems in Fódlan are and they have some common ground on how they think it can be fixed. Claude and Dimitri both want to end Fódlan's isolation, Edelgard and Claude both think the churches influence needs to be curtailed, all three of them know that the crest system is a problem. They're three characters who agree on a lot but their circumstances pit them against each other. If only there was a group who was threat to all of them to force them together and have them come to some sort of understanding.
And Byleth, oh Byleth. Byleth is the most "Avatar" avatar character bar Mark fe7. They had an actually interesting arc set up them, a player character who starts off as a silent protagonist but as the story goes on they disconnect themself from the player's control and voice and gain agency, becoming their own person seperate from what the people around them wish for them to be for their own personal gain. This arc starts after Jeralt's death, with them absorbing Sothis' power and erasing their contiousness from their head. Them sitting on the throne and nothing happening and then it just... Doesn't go further. They don't get their own voice, the player still has influence on what they say and how they react. They don't show much more emotion. They never complete the obvious arc set up for them, they just stop developing mid way through.
I'd also talk about it's game play flaws but those have been hammered into the ground. 3 houses is not a great fe game game play wise.

Happy Lunchtime! The Clifton Manor Incident is now LIVE on ao3!
You can read it HERE (and on ff.net here, of course, but it's been there for YEARS so. you know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Part of the Crystal Springs: Smile Shot collection!
Summary:
England, 1732. Santa sends Bernard on a little search and recovery mission for his family in London. Jacqueline has a life-changing realization that same night, indirectly causing Bernard's mission from Santa to go a little bit awry. Needless to say, Bernard is getting very tired of awful brothers. This hopefully won't bite them in the butt later.
(spoiler alert: it totally does >:)
And a little excerpt below the cut, just for funsies :)
Enjoy!
Grinning, Bernard focused on the desk and dissipated, the colourful sparks he left in his wake outside barely settling on the snow when he reappeared right at the desk.
There was a source of heat somewhere in the room, for it was far warmer inside then it was outside. The wind rattled the windows, the outside looking near whiteout conditions. It was a nasty storm.
But, shoving that thought aside—not his problem right now, nor his department, Bernard thought—he got to work examining the office. As his eyes adjusted, the room became clearer to him. There was a smouldering fire lit in a fireplace on the far right wall. Tall ranges filled with books were arranged in rows, with a large space in the middle of the library for a heavy desk and several regal armchairs. A spindly table was by the double door entrance, lamps burning low on either side of the doors.
With a flick of his wrists, two golden balls of light headed towards the wall scones, the low burning lamps now bright enough to give Bernard a decent line of sight while still keeping the library dark enough to not arouse suspicion. Sure he could see in the dark, and could have done everything in the dark completely, but a well-lit space was preferred.
He just had to be very, very quiet.
The winds outside roared, a light tack tack tack sound signalling that now ice was falling outside as well. Bernard rounded his way to the head of the desk, sitting down in the leather chair. Three drawers, two small ones on either side of the space allotted for the chair, and a large one underneath the left drawer. All locked.
Good thing Bernard was magical, and locks weren't an issue.
He opened the big drawer on the bottom first and pulled out all of the documents inside. He was able to make fast work of the ones that weren't really pertinent to his task. Questionable portraits, and what may have been handwritten books with equally as questionable content. Bernard threw those right back into the drawer.
There were a few notebooks he kept out, as well as a thick folder with Santa's father's name on it. That could be handy. Done with the big drawer, he opened up the small top drawers and began rifling through them.
There was a creak in the hallway. He stopped, glancing at the lamps. They dimmed. He sat still, unmoving, until he heard another creak. It was moving away from the library. He waited another minute before he breathed a sigh of relief and turned the lamps back up.
As long as he was quiet, this would go fine and he wouldn't get shot. He just had to stay quiet...
"Bernard, I cannot even BELIEVE!"
So much for quiet, Bernard thought, as the space in front of the desk grew cold and a small flurry of snowflakes and blue sparks appeared. If it wasn't for how distraught the familiar voice sounded, Bernard would have immediately shushed her. Instead, he stood up, waiting for his friend to properly appear.
There was a small poof and a slightly dishevelled Jacqueline Frost appeared in front of him, her eyes watery. Her hair must have been up at one point, but was now falling. She rubbed ice off of her cheeks, sniffling. "I spent this entire time thinking it was all my fault but it wasn't my fault! I'm not responsible for his actions, but I let myself think that and I—" she gasped for breath, rubbing her eyes again.
Silver bells, Bernard thought. This at least explained the blizzard, he realized. He got up around the desk and placed an arm on Jacqueline's shoulder. "Hey, calm down kid. It's gonna be okay!"
"Is it?!"
"I don't know yet. But I imagine it will be. Look, Jacqueline, you know I'm here for you, and I'm more than happy to help you. On one condition."
The sprite nodded, sniffling and wiping her cheeks.
"If you're gonna stick around, I need you to be very quiet, okay?"
Finally having caught her breath, Jacqueline nodded, taking another deep breath that nearly turned into a sob. She hiccuped. "Sorry," she said.
"Hey, don't apologize! It's okay! Seems like you've had a bit of a rough night. It happens. I'm halfway to one myself, I'm beginning to think. Have a seat. I have some things to go through here but I can multitask. And remember, quiet."
"Right," she said. "Quiet." She tried to sit but was stopped by her panniers. She groaned. "Of COURSE!"

malice swordshadow just casually mentioning how the charr used to eat humans in the last story update had me cheering + hooting + hollering as a charr main/gw1 player whose favorite fact to drop on gw2 players is "hey the gw1 charr used to skin humans at the very least, it's also mentioned by a charr NPC at the fucking EBONHAWKE PEACE SUMMIT, and in gw1 humans also skinned charr in return since charr hide was a salvage item AND WARRIORS WORE THEIR PELTS AS ARMOR (don't fucking tell me "oh it's made of nondescript hide segments, not charr hide directly, because you can salvage charr hide INTO the items needed for the armor, etc etc it's real to me dammit)
charr used to eat humans, humans used to wear charr, shit was brutal and I love when the game goes "hey remember how fucking horrific things used to be between our people?" even though nowadays they've only made the baby steps of "maybe don't filet and eat/wear your enemies"
