It's hilarious to me how much the second half of the show seemed to want Lockwood specifically to suffer. Three instances come to mind in particular: at Winkman's, at the auction, and the fight with Joplin.

Winkman's in the book: Lucy and Lockwood snoop around, get caught, get thrown out

Show: Lockwood gets ELECTRIC CHAIR TORTURED

The auction in the book: Lucy and Lockwood’s plan works fairly well. They still jump into the Thames, but all in all, it goes according to plan

Show: a DEPRAC agent with a family gets MURDERED and Lockwood has a PANIC ATTACK because he feels at fault

Fight with Joplin in the book: Lockwood has a few scrapes from the fight with the thugs, comes and saves Lucy, George, and Kipps. The gun doesn't go off.

Show: SHOOT HIM AND HOIST HIS COLLAPSED BODY UP THE CATAFALQUE

Making this post for a beloved mutual who doesn't want to argue. Fortunately, I have nothing holding me back, because I am, at my heart, kind of a jerk.

It's really, really sad and disheartening to see a lot of people, some of whom often talk about the importance of ecumenism and working together against the darkness of the world, immediately jumping on the anti-Catholic bandwagon the second our backs are turned. I know how much time I and others have put in to explaining our beliefs, with both magisterial and biblical sources, and thought we had a sort of "I don't agree with you, but I respect you" thing going on. Like, I know the Protestant objections to Mary and the saints. I went to a Protestant college and took theology classes from Protestant pastors, even. I don't agree with them at all, but I know and understand the issue from all sides. I'd thought everyone was trying to do the same.

I don't know. The whole "haha let's make fun of them while their backs are turned" thing just feels very meanspirited to me. We've had these disagreements before, so why say it like you're only able to say it when so many Catholics are off for Lent? It doesn't feel like actual intellectual disagreement. I just feel kinda bruised haha

You know, we talk a lot about the implications of Lockwood’s patron saint being St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost things, but we don't talk a lot about his other namesake. His middle name, John, for St. John.

John, who stayed faithful even to Christ's death. John, who watched as all his friends (as his brother) died, but who stayed alive, even through torture. John, who was given a glimpse into the end of the world. John, who is the patron saint of love, loyalty, and friendship.

John, the beloved.

A peak Holly moment to me is when she and Lockwood went to retrieve Lucy’s clothes from her place after the break in (which. I can just *see* Lockwood being like "I need to bring a girl with me. There might be girl things about."), and she's just SO wide eyed and genuinely sympathetic about how poor Lucy’s home was completely trashed...

...meanwhile Lockwood and Lucy both know Lucy has been living in the embodiment of the "You live like this?" meme

I don't know I just find it funny how everyone wants to feast on Mardi Gras but loves to conveniently forget about the whole fasting thing that's meant to come after. Hot take your feasts mean nothing without fasting
