headcanons:

-i don't think she'd mind he/him pronouns being used on her, she just is happier with she/her . I think she'd also vibe with they/them and maybe some neos too but I'm not sure which

- I honestly think she'd keep her name Jou/Joe. It's familiar to her and she doesn't really feel any disconnect to it, it's still her. I do think it'd be cute for Sara and Ryoko to have a girl sleepover with her where they research name options though. I think she'd be /open/ to changing her name but ultimately Joe still feels good for her for now and she's in no rush to change it

-She wouldn't figure it out until her mid 20s ish and that's only because she has her friends to help her. Like Sara would have to sit her down and the conversation would be like: Sara: Joe... you know most boys don't wish to be a girl or feels happy when they're mistaken for a girl, right? ...You know if you want to be a girl, that's okay. Joe: What? You can do that? Sara: *waving her hands wildly at Ranmaru* Joe: *eyes wide* RANMARU'S A GIRL?! Sara: NO

-Reko and her band is what got her into the queer scene at first. I think she probably knew her sexuality before her gender lol. Meeting Reko in person just made her more into the band and she became a BIG fan and then Reko recommended her some other queer musicians and it's like an entirely new world was opened for her. I think Sara wouldn't really get it (I don't see her as a girl that's into much music in general and so being a fan would confuse her) at first but after she gets used to it and goes to a few concerts with Joe she really enjoys it. Ryoko was ecstatic when she found out the music Joe was listening to and proceeded to share her her playlist of lesbian artists she loved lol.

-don't think she'd stick to any certain aesthetic. one day she could be wearing hippie clothing, the next punk and the next just strolling around in her pajamas.

You total sweetheart, you have no idea how happy it makes me to have someone ask about that fic!

The premise of the fic is that Jounouchi made it big as an idol by going viral, then signed a contract with the agency KaibaCorpProductions. The CEO Seto Kaiba doesn't get along with Jounouchi at all, but he paid him more than enough to cover Shizuka's eye operation and understands the valuable niche that Jou fills in his lineup of stars.

Ryou Bakura and Marik Ishtar are an idol duo called Millium Magic. KCP doesn't allow them to be openly queer, but they do their best to let their true selves shine through anyways, and plenty of fans see that for what it is. 😉 And yes, they're very much dating each other.

Mai Kujaku is a stylist and designer for KCP, Yugi Mutou is Jounouchi's manager, and Ryuji Otogi is his choreographer. Jounouchi's bi ass can't help having a crush on Ryuji, and when he accidentally overhears the dancer singing one of Jou's songs, he becomes even more fascinated with him. Why would he hide a talent like that, especially at an agency where that could benefit him? 🤔

After spending a day off together (the newest chapter), Jou is even more intrigued than before, and what did he mean when he implied he had already "started his hustle" by age ten? Why is he so comfortable with the English language? And should Jou go for it with this absolute dream of a hottie, or is dating a coworker in this industry just asking for trouble?

This is one of the very few fics where I have the entire, complete story mapped out in my brain. It's not going to drag on forever, I know exactly how it ends, which is kind of nice. I also really love the idea of punk rock idol Joey, he would be such a hit and a heart-throb.

Oh! And there is a very specific reason that I'm using all the Japanese names in this fic, and that will be revealed through the plot very soon! 🤫 This fic is a bit of a backburner fic, but like I said, I know exactly how it's going to end, so this isn't going to stay unfinished, I swear! I also plan to cap off the final chapter with quite the finale! 😁

A really rough sketch for the Worm/One Piece au I've been Ponderin' for a while now. Some random ideas for the main crew under the cut:

Let's start by making things clear: this is not for any kind of fanfic or anything of the sort. I have been known to write those when I was 14 and very into RWBY, but I still struggle to write anything too complex in english and I have since given up on the hobby anyway. I just like rotating Worm characters in my head and combining them with any other brainrot I am going through at any point of my life, y'know.

As for how the au actually works, I simply deleted all the characters from the One Piece universe from existance and then tried to apply every Worm character to the preexisting societal structures and dynamics of the Three Great Powers, whilst staying as close to the currently established canon and with making up as few new Devil Fruits as possible (currently on just 1, but I haven't gone through many side characters).

Now, as evidenced by the use of Haki and presence of Imp, this fanart portrays the crew at quite a later stage of their journey - I imagine the Underside Pirates (it is a butt joke, to be clear) started off somewhere in South Blue openly working for the mysterious Captain Coil, a man trying to make a name for himself before moving to the Grand Line. What the Underside Pirates didn't actually know is that they were slowly being set up for betrayal from the very start - Captain Coil is Thomas Calvert, a retired Marine, who works under a pseudonym solely so that he can build up the persona of Captain Coil as a threat to the World Government, fake arresting himself and gain the title of a Shichibukai (and with it, the entrance to the Holy Land Mary Geoise).

For the actual crew, let's go through them one by one:

Taylor D Hebert - newest recruit of the crew, starts off as quartermaster, before being promoted to the first mate and eventually captain further down the line. The user of Jou-Jou no Mi (shamefully, the only original Fruit I made up for this au so far - it possesses about the same capabilities as Taylor's powers do in canon). Not a lot to say here - take her Worm backstory, substitute being into heroes for being inspired to join the Marines and bosh, done. After the discovery of Haki I imagine she would start gathering bugs into shapes of objects and covering the entire swarm in armament Haki for some improvised weapons (she's doing that very thing and forming a katana in the art, coincidentally). Her attack name are references to english literature (I am polish so I cannot think of an example). Possibly gay for Rachel but, since Oda writes both romance and queer people weird, it's this very anime kind of crush where she acts normal 90% of the time, but then turns into a blushing mumbling idiot when Rachel is too close. Kind of like Kuroko from Railgun but with 100% less sexual assault, y'know.

Rachel Lindt - a dogfish fishman raised outside of Fishman Island, Rachel had a pretty tough life travelling the seas alone, always narrowly avoiding whichever slave hunting crew that confused her for a mermaid at any given moment. She has no fruit powers and minimal Fishman Karate skills due to never having a proper teacher. In combat she always relied mostly on various marine life companions she gathered throughout the years of travelling the sea - in many ways, her only family. Works as the crew's helmsman. Her attack names are hilariously simple and straightforward, often said after she delivers them, rather than during action (eg. she'll just calmly punch her opponent into the ground as they are mid screaming their attack name, dust herself off and calmly say 'Right Punch' before walking off). Mostly inspired by the fact, that it always annoyed me horribly how few female fishmen there were in the series. Completely unaware Taylor has a crush on her.

Alec Vasil - son of a Yonko and an ex-Celestial Dragon, Alec was one of the many children Nikos Vasil has produced with his various mistresses. There isn't much information about the Heartbreaker in Worm proper, but I imagine him as a Doflamingo kind of figure in this au - his connections and information about the Holy Land stops the Marines from ever attacking him directly and the powers of Ito Ito no Mi, whilst limited, let him marionette people around however he wishes to fulfill his various schemes. Alec himself is no Fruit user but, due to his mother being a Mink, can use Electro. Thanks to years of experimentation with the fighting style, he developed a technique which allows him a limited control over the electricity in his enemies' muscles, purposefully mimiquing the powers of his father - both to get his father's attention and to mock his abilities ('I can do everything you can and more without being a Celestial Dragon or a Fruit user' type deal). No one really knows what his job on the ship is supposed to be and, when asked, he just usually makes up whatever lie let's him laze off some more at any given moment (usually, 'Oh, yeah, I'm on permament Lookout duty, actually'). At first I thought his attack names should be in french, but nah, this dude is just screaming the most atrocious pun attack names known to mankind probably. Responsible for making up the crew's name.

Lisa Wilbourn - the crew's de facto unofficial captain in the early days, she also doubles as a navigator. A noble of a small kingdom in South Blue, her story plays out very similarly to the canon Lisa. At some point of it all she accidently gets her hands on Giro Giro no Mi and, when her family wants to exploit her mind reading abilities for business when she's still in mourning over her brother, she escapes her home island and gets scouted by Coil. I think that a lot of the time snipers are done real dirty in One Piece, so Lisa mainly uses long range weaponry (and later Observation Haki) during combat - she simply never puts any time into mastering Armament. Honestly not much to say here, I think she was one of the most obvious Devil Fruit fits in the entire crew. Out of every person in this drawing, I am the most disatissfied with her design and thus will probably do something about it shortly.

Brian Laborn - fills the role of a first mate, cook, quartermaster, doctor, canon master, shipwright and sometimes also a ship, if need be. My friend and I discussed whether to give him a Fruit power, as the only one that fits him - that being Yami Yami no Mi, which not only visually mimics Brian's power, but also makes the user literally suffer more in combat - is way too powerful for a small ass crew. So eventually I settled for just amking him the crew's boringman Haki user and martial artist. I mean, someone does need to fish out all these dumbasses from the ocean and Rachel isn't always around, I guess. A not zero chance he steals Yami Yami no Mi from Jack's crew later on or something of the like. He may use fullbody Armament at some point, purely because I think it gets REAL bad rep in One Piece and he would make it work, I bet. His attack names are all references to real life boxing history.

Aisha Laborn - there was much debate in my head whether Aisha should be the user of Memo Memo no Mi or Suke Suke no Mi - the latter eventually won out, because I believe Aisha going unnoticed by both foes and allies is more important than actually referencing the memory aspect of her powers. She got her hands on the Devil Fruit due to one of his mother's boyfriends, who was a pirate and robbed it off of someone on sea. Aisha ate the Fruit, angering her mother's boyfriend and, after being severly beaten up, managed to activate the Fruit's abilities to become invisible and call for Brian. The following sequence plays out similarly as in canon. Aisha would be on the ship from the very beginning, but Brian usually leaves her in some town when the Underside Pirates go on any kind of mission and it's not until later that she actually joins them as crew (or rather she sneaks onto their ship claiming to be their second permanent Lookout so many times that it just became easier letting her stay).

Ship - considering the crew's size, most likely a caravel. I'm firting with it being named Atlas, but are not sold on it. Jokingly referred to is as Shrugging Atlas in my head once. I think Atlas should be their second ship, something they gain after Taylor becomes a more prominent member of the crew, and they should start off with something else. No clue what tho.

Illegitimate and of mixed heritage, Eva is her family's shame. She tries to be the perfect daughter, but Eva is hiding a secret: magic calls to her. Eva knows she should fight the temptation. Magic is the sign of the dark god, and using it is punishable by death. Yet it's hard to ignore power when it has always been denied you. Eva is walking a dangerous path, one that gets stranger every day. And in the end, she'll become something she never imagined.

Gabriela Romero Lacruz's The Sun and the Void is the first book in a fantasy duology inspired by Venezuelan folklore, exploring themes of racism and twisted family dynamics well. The two PoV characters go each on a journey from passivity to taking agency and making choices. They’re not perfect characters, in fact they might infuriate some readers, but the author treats them seriously.

With her plot about being complicit in a sacrificial ritual, Reina is an unlikable protagonist who nevertheless is done very well, and following her journey of realization is very satisfying. Bound to the family that saved her, she latches onto the kinder members, willing to do everything that's asked of her, but the choices she makes at some turns are her saving grace. Eva is similarly trapped by her own blood relatives who despise the manner of her birth, and finally takes matters into her hands to carve her own path and save herself. As their paths cross, they're both changed by the experience, and their choices will prove to be explosive.

The supporting cast holds up well. Reina's grandmother shines with all her complexities, making her a well-rounded antagonist, and so does Celeste, a complicated character with a holier-than-thou attitude. The biggest surprises are Maior, graduating from background character to something more, and Javier, violent character with surprising depths. The interpersonal relationships between all these characters range from well-explored to barely scraping the surface, making some of the final beats inexplicable. Reina's relationship to Maior in particular suffers from this.

The worldbuilding is complex and intriguing, with an interesting magical system and races that are seen as other and dangerous. Our two main characters suffer from systemic racism, in a world where religious colonialism changed the attitude of the conquered land. There's political upheaval and a fight for their rights, but it's rather in the background, except in a big moment that should feel momentous but leads to absolutely nothing. Queerness isn't well-accepted either, and one could argue the need for recognition and the resentment towards who can pass are important themes of the book. Reina's infatuation with Celeste suffers from the ostracism in this world, and possibly we'll see in the next book the consequences of her beginning a relationship with a woman.

The pacing is the main problem of the novel, especially between the first and the second part of the book; the prose is at times evocative and at others a bit nonsensical.

The Sun and the Void is a promising debut with an interesting premise.

my feelings on The Beginning. I welcome discourse and dissenting opinions, but I do NOT welcome hate. Also I'm going to bed literally right after publishing this, so I will talk to y'all tomorrow.

I loved Fullmetal Alchemist: Digimon The Beginning a lot. Seeing the English dub was a wonderful experience and it brought me back to the reason why 02 was my favorite season in the first place. I also appreciated seeing the subbed version tonight, as it helped solidify the plot in my head.

I adored Daisuke especially. I loved Daisuke's emotions and his dialogue and his ability to strike friendship into the heart of anyone. I loved his adorable interactions with Ken, his chaotic interactions with Miyako, and his extremely ship-worthy interactions with Lui. And that scene where Ken pointed out how calm he was? Extremely powerful. Also Daisuke's queer energy was off the charts in this film, just saying. That alone means so much to me.

Also Takeru was SO in character when he was like "I know there is the possibility of Digimon partner-induced nuclear war, but hello??? Patamon might die????" I realize that's an oversimplification of his point, but it felt so right for him.

So like... I don't want to get into arguments about this, because I always feel like I'm wrong about lore and people yell at me just for thinking things they think are "wrong". So these are just my personal opinions which are obviously in no way accurate.

But in my opinion, Lui wasn't the first person to partner with a Digimon. I felt that Ukkomon was unreliable and untrustworthy and unstable, so I don't trust anything he claimed was true. I don't trust Ukkomon's concept of being the reason for Digimon and human partnerships to be accurate. I mean, I could bring Hiroki Hida and Oikawa into the mix. Or Maki and Daigo (if you try to tell me tri isn't canon just because of some interview, I'm going to block you just fyi).

I also don't entirely buy Ukkomon to be the reason the Chosen Children were even Chosen. Wouldn't Lui have been part of their adventure if that was the case? There are so many reasons the Digital World needed the Chosen Children that had absolutely nothing to do with Lui and Ukkomon. The whole Digital World's existence wasn't even mentioned regarding Ukkomon.

I really just don't trust anything Ukkomon did or said. He litterally brainwashed, manipulated, and eventually killed Lui's parents, so forgive me if I find what he says hard to believe. But I seriously loved that Ukkomon was chaotic and untrustworthy. It made for a fascinating "villain". I loved that we were lead to believe some new lore that may or may not be true, depending on how much you believe Ukkomon and Lui.

I also want to believe that now that the digivices are gone (which already happened to Sora, Taichi, Yamato, and implied Mimi, Jou, and Koushiro), that they will receive Digi-eggs soon, perhaps after they go through more important situations in their adult lives. If you know me, then you know I'm not the biggest fan of the ending of Kizuna, because I felt like it was a personal attack on my adulthood. I want more than anything for there to be a reason for Taichi and the others to see their Digimon again. I believe the ending of The Beginning gave us hope that Taichi's bond with Agumon transcends his own broken digivice.

So that's it, mostly. You can all stay tuned for when the movie is available on streaming/blu-ray, because you KNOW I'll be photoshopping ponytails onto Ken again. Also I'm planning a Daisuke/Lui fic at some point.

is tonight's focus. I have three multi-linguistic joke-posts to make. They probably will only be funny to myself, but I must try.

First, it is sad that we had no more interactions between Izou and O-Kiku.

But queers never die, and until proven otherwise, I will believe Izou is alive. So I think if I ever write conversations between them, I'll have Izou call O-Kiku something like "princess" or "your majesty", because she is 菊之丞, or 菊之女王 (Kiku no joou) 女王 queen. That was my first idea but... ... thinking about it further, just "miss". With writing it 菊之嬢 (Kiku no jou) 嬢 miss. Like in お嬢さん(Ojousan).

She sorta… felt like she had to look feminine to . “Prove” she was trans… but that soon wore off because Ursheen Stronghold (and Alice) were like ermmm you don’t have to be super gender conforming if you wan t to…and she was like ohh holy shit i don’t….

A headcanon:

Jounouchi 100000% clocked Yugi as queer all on his own way early in the friendship and hadn't said a word because bros don't out bros, dude.

By the time, years later, after high school, Yugi actually feels comfortable telling other people about it (he feels no shame about it, but he knew being out about that in THAT high school would get him hit even more), Jou's like, "yeah, obvs, your weird Kaiba crush was visible from the moon, bruh. TITLE: Autism and Psychiatry: Redefining Care Through the Neurodiversity Paradigm

DESCRIPTION: This presentation/conversation explores the neurodiversity paradigm versus the medical model in psychiatry. Reese will discuss how psychiatric practices often medicate symptoms without addressing the root causes of distress, such as sensory overwhelm or lack of accommodations, and share insights from their work as a neurodiversity affirming psychiatric nurse practitioner (APRN). Guiding questions: How can medication benefit autistic people, not as a ‘treatment’ for autism, but as a tool for navigating life in a neurotypical world? How can we utilize medication, while also focusing on community-based healing as an alternative to traditional medical approaches?

BRIEF BIO: Reese Ramponi, APRN (they/she) is an Autistic/ADHD Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, educator, and consultant. After moving from Alaska to the East Coast in 2009, Reese studied Religion and Psychology at Dartmouth College before completing Yale’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program in 2018. With over a decade of experience in queer and neurodiversity advocacy, Reese has worked as a photographer, healthcare educator, and consultant. Their clinical expertise spans neurodiversity-affirming care, ketamine therapy, existential therapy, and gender identity development in youth and young adults. (ek’s jammer vir foute- ek het afrikaans by skool geleer, maar ek hou van dit praat.)
