my favourite headcanon for glass sorenson is that she came down with farm station and watched them murder luke right in front of her eyes (or kidnap him or something cause i love tragic lovers but she deserves to be happy) and so she’s one of the first people to join pike’s militia and turn vengeful, and her best friend wells (he lives too cause this is my canon now) is trying to get through to her but she won’t hear it cause all she wants is justice and to get her oldest friend clarke griffin out of polis and away from harm (they’re friends too fight me on this i dare you)

My most recent chapter is in the POV of a new character in Darkling that I've been trying very hard to keep concealed. But for the sake of flow, since this piece is in their POV I'm going to switch out [Redacted] for an intial instead...

E stopped breathing. He turned his head slowly, unwilling to draw attention, as he waited for Andric's control to crack.

"I don't have a good defence, Andric. I can't even say you're entirely wrong," Booker admitted bitterly, shaking his head, and when Andric's fist connected with the stone mantle, E couldn't supress his violent flinch, knee knocking the underside of the dining table as his breath began to speed up and he pressed back into the corner, praying neither of them noticed his barely concealed panic. "I'm waiting for an explanation, not a bloody excuse!" Andric was yelling, and E forced his fingers to curl around the edge of the table. Adding pressure to one finger at a time. 'One, two, three, four. Breathe In. One, two, three, four. Out.'

Words written (published or not, WIPs included!): 188,336 words according to my trusty spreadsheet, in 45 fics on AO3 and a few secret things.

Smut scenes: How do I even count that? I wrote 11 explicit fics in 2022. Some had several scenes.

New things I tried: I tried writing more short things for DA Drunk Writing Circle on Friday nights. It went well, I think, but sometimes it feels like I'm wasting a big idea on a small thing and then I can't use it again, which is STUPID, I know, but it's still a thing going on in this old head.

Fic I spent the most time on:  I have such a bad memory. I don't remember such things, time us just so... timey.

Looking at my trusty spreadsheet, I spent three months in the beginning of the year to finish Destiny's Bite and then Mystery of the Rose appeared. Currently, I'm spending the most time on Twilight and Soup. Like an unhealthy amount of time. You don't even know how much this fic occupies my brain space.

Fic I spent the least time on: I think I wrote the first chapter of Mystery of the Rose in one night.

Favourite thing I wrote: I think it's Outshine the Stars, but I love all my ongoing fics too.

Favourite thing I read:  The Right Pressure by DemonicPersephone, the pining, the careful feelings developing...

Writing goals for next year:  More words. Finish a few longifcs. Write the original novels. Just... use time more efficiently. Oh and if possible, maybe play a game again? But mostly, more writing.

I honestly went into the design phase with only an incredibly vague idea of what I might want included, and they knocked it out of the park.

Soooo, what’s the dynamic between these two OC’s. It seems intensely fun and just intense. Who/what are they to each other? I’ve seen bits and pieces that give glimpses but I grow all the more curious, especially with this beautifully charged art piece.

So I touched on the general premise here. But let's see if I can summarize their backgrounds in a way that makes sense:

Taking place an alternate earth called Eua, Artemis is the leader of a anarchist cult/crime syndicate named Deity that worships him as self-made God-King and wants to bring a new era to the world through violent, bloody means. Along with the ability to morph any part of his body into a unbreakable black metal at will, Artemis tots that he was able to 'eat god' and gain godhood through those means--and that anyone can do so if they have the strength and belief in him. Think of him as the worst prosperity pastor you can think of, make him hot, and imagine he also saying 'now kill people for me'. That's the most simplified version I can give you.

Kassandra, meanwhile, is an ex-military commander who created her own mercenary unit known as Godkiller for the explicit goal of hunting Artemis down and putting a stop to Deity's crimes against humanity. She's has a personal stake in all this because Artemis slaughtered her parents in front of her when she was ten years old, and she's been on this mad revenge journey ever since. On top of all that, Kass leaves behind an entire prestigious family legacy because the Rosales Family was famous linage that produced generations of military heroes. So on top of being on her own save for her team and being considered a traitorous deserter by the public, she's also referred to as disgrace.

The once promising 'golden child' who sacrificed everything for her 'pointless' revenge.

And Artemis could not be more thrilled about being chased down by her. I can not even begin to describe-- Okay, you know that one post that was like 'a nemesis is someone who you see across the room and know one day you're going to meet one a battle field for one final fight and the other is going to end you' or something like that. THAT'S THEM.

THAT'S THEIR HISTORY.

It is EIGHT YEARS (eight being them meeting up again when they were adults) OF THEM CHASE EACH OTHER DOWN. FIGHT TIT FOR TAT. ALWAYS YANKING AWAY JUST AT THE END BEFORE ONE CAN TAKE THEIR FINAL BREATH.

IT'S A DANCE.

It's my ode to hero/villain ships. And yeah Kassandra hates this fucker, she despises him, but she raises to meet him every goddamn second she hears from him. It's obsession, you know? The line between hatred and love. And Artemis loves her. Adores her. There is no one else on the planet he hopes puts a fucking bullet through her head. He wants to make this woman his Dark Queen--he wants to make her his GODDESS.

But to do that means he has to corrupt her, drag her down to where he's drowning in a pit of blood and visceral, have her breathe the same air, and say with all the same conviction as him that 'yes, I want this'.

'Wow that's fucked up, Kat'. YEAH I KNOW THAT'S THE POINT BRO. SHE WANTS TO PUT A BULLET INTO HIS BRAIN AND HE WANTS TO PUT A RING ON HER FINGER.

(and I swear to you Kass will be get to do the thing, I am not a 'revenge is bad' writer, I am a REVENGE IS JUSTIFIED, LET HER DO IT, JUST DON'T LET IT TURN HER INTO HIM, WRITER)

And there's so much more to it than this because they're mirrors to each others, they are so extremely similar and in another life, in another better place (or worst place, ya know), they could have been friends, they could have been soulmates. But they can't, not here. No matter how much Kass with her endless love (and god, I want to make this clear, more than Kass hates, more than she rages, she loves) pities him--but does not forgive him--and not matter how much Artemis genuinely, perhaps even tenderly adores her, they can't even be. They're going to do this dance, they may even be on the same side once or twice, they be equals on every front, but one day. One day this is going to end

and it's going to end with someone's blood on the other's hand.

I hear the story goes something like [   kass had a daughter and a son before she became a vampire and so I’m assuming her family continued and she continued to sort of keep an eye on her descendants. Hi Kass! I have a few creators who I think are in need of some love this Sunday.

@historygeekfics is a lovely writer who has a trove of stories across a lot of fandoms, and the OC Gwen Powell in the MCU/Bucky Barnes fandom is a wonderful look back to 1940s Britain.

@melomaniac3407 has what I think is a marvelous idea for an OC Siobhan playing another OC Anya with Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. That much attention to detail in both worlds is amazing!

@violetmuses' work crosses a lot of fandoms, but some of my favorite stories center on the MCU's Helmut Zemo, especially the Silhouette series featuring her OC Nicole.

@chickensarentcheap brings a marvelous family dynamic to the world of the Netflix Extraction series featuring Tyler Rake. The dynamics are spot on, and Esme is the perfect match for Tyler.

@darsynia writes spectacular MCU-based OCs, and I love Abigail Carson's interactions with Tony Stark. And anyone who tackles the Science Bros gets much credit in my book!

@starryeyes2000 is still my absolute favorite author of Star Trek AOS fanfic because I can so clearly hear those words being spoken by Karl Urban's Leonard McCoy to OC Cara Aguirre.

@darknightfrombeyond brings me back to my love of the now retired Arrowverse with the wonderful Amelia Queen and her interactions with those in the lives of The Green Arrow, Oliver Queen.

And to round off the list, I tip my hat to you, @arrthurpendragon, for juggling so many fandoms along with caring for the rest of us as we move along in our own fandoms. I love Star Wars, and Cori’iana Sanandrassa is a marvelous OC who plays off one of my SW faves in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hey btw, to new writers who want to write angst: Nothing illustrates darkness as well as sparse and brilliant highlights.

If you want to write a character with an unspeakably awful past, there’s no need to go into deep and gory details about how horrible it was. Readers who can’t relate to it won’t relate to that, and the readers who have been there generally don’t want to see that. Instead, highlight some of their happiest moments but make them unsettlingly small.

Sprinkles in some realism, too. Having a character go “my parents were abusive monsters and I’ve literally never had a happy moment in my life” isn’t realistic, and both the people who haven’t witnessed that kind of thing outside of fiction, and the people who have personally lived it will just go “yeah, yeah, tragic childhood, misery, darkness, we’ve all seen it”, and being nothing but negative makes the character both uninteresting and unlikeable.

Now, having someone casually think or say shit like “I think my happiest childhood memory was that christmas when dad was in prison. Nobody was yelling or throwing anything and mom was sober the whole time”, and be genuinely surprised by other peoples’ concerned reactions - now jesus christ that’s bleak.

When Lizzy felt the ground beneath her feet slow to a stop, it took a moment for the world to come back into focus and she stumbled. The reminder that she'd been forcefully removed from the hall, when [Redacted] had the answers she'd been seeking for months, had her struggling, wrenching her arm away from Moore's grasp with a snarl of her own. "She's my mum! I have a right to know what's—" "And if she has been tortured? Brutalised? If she was alive, but is now dead? Do you wish to hear these things directly? Or do you wish me to find the information and relay it to you after I am certain there is nothing further being concealed from you?"
