((Don’t worry about it! I gave a lot so it’s only expected. :) ))
Truth be told, she had grappled with causing harm to herself in the past. Thoughts of drifting away into an eternal sleep periodically drifted in and out of her mind and the situation she was currently in had only increased the frequency and intensity of these thoughts. She had spent most nights wondering if she could end her miserable existence without pulling her peers into a trial. Even now, she could feel a strong urge to just pull the trigger and be done with it.
She would have done it too had the threat not confirmed something for her. She wasn’t sure whether it was the shock, her injury, or the fact that Kokichi had turned away midway through, but for some reason she’d had a difficult time reading his true intentions when he’d made his chilling announcement. She needed to get a bead on his true intentions and/or wreck his plans if he was actually telling the truth. It was a desperate attempt but she needed to do something shocking to force his true emotions to the forefront. And if by some slim chance, he’d meant everything he said, well, it wasn’t like she was afraid to die.
As she gazed steadily at his face, she found that she had to concentrate more than usual to catch all the nuances of his expression. Were her own emotions muddling up her skills? Whatever it was, it was worrying, especially now that she absolutely NEEDED all her senses and abilities. She shook her head and tried to block out all the shouting so she could focus.
She saw that Kokichi’s smile had disappeared and his breathing seemed to be getting labored. His hand now had a slight tremor to it and even when his grin reappeared, it was obviously a struggle to keep it plastered on his face. Not only did it confirm that he wasn’t nearly as callous as he acted but it also forced him into an admission. Sort of, anyway. She couldn’t be too sure but it seemed to her that he was holding something back.
Although she had gotten just what she wanted from him, she found herself hesitating to put the gun down. How much of this was actually a ruse and how much was an extension of her own wishes? How easy it would be to just end it all right here and not have to worry about the murders, the executions or anything else. But that was just selfish. If she did, in fact, pull the trigger not only would she give those present yet another traumatizing experience but she also wouldn’t be able to end this sadistic game and save everyone.
She sighed. Keeping her eyes on Kokichi, she slowly lowered the gun and placed it back in the pile of weapons. Everyone probably thought she was certifiably insane now. That was fine. They could think what they wanted as far as she was concerned just as long as they all made it out alive.
Relieved exhales dawned over everyone as their wide eyes that stuck to the girl holding a gun to her head, softened. It was silent for a moment, even Kokichi had to take the time to get back into the world from the scare. Nothing could be heard but Kaito’s violent stifled coughing.
Kokichi’s eyes had softened and he allowed himself to a moment of vulnerability as he brought his hand up to fidget with his chin, not for long, however, had his eyes sharpened once again.
The boy with the bomb didn’t spare anyone the privilege of recovering from what he said, as he spoke up once again, the oddly cheerful voice had pierced everyone’s ears and sent dread down their stomachs once again—but it thankfully distracted them from what had just happened, though not completely.
Shuichi felt all his adrenaline he had raised up disappear, several waves of dizziness and exhaustion had hit him, and judging by the distressed looks of the others, he wasn’t the only one.
Kokichi patted the cart, “There’s no need for guns, cuz we have these bad boys! Nishishi!” Kokichi was sure he would never be able to look at a gun the same again. “The anti-Monokuma weapons!” He dragged out the last syllable, his demeanour had almost fooled everyone into thinking everything was back to normal.
Kokichi felt uneasy to be changing the subject so abruptly when he had just witnessed S/o do something highly concerning, it didn’t feel right. He felt the need to fidget come up, but he pushed it down, suffocating the urge to pull her away from the weapons.
Even so, Kokichi didn’t seem to notice he had slightly been gravitating towards her, step-by-step as he spoke.
“The.. what? You mean the hammers?” Shuichi had barely been able to speak, his hand had been brought up to try and soothe his headache; it proved to be ineffective. Shuichi turned his head to the coughing Kaito, eyes widening as he realized he hadn’t even noticed the poor guy coughing his heart out. Maki seemed to be a bit angry at him for that, but her emotions had currently been occupied with worry.
He could see Kaito had something to say, but he only seemed to wheeze instead; he needed to remember how to breathe first before he decided to go off on another speech. Kokichi watched Kaito with pitied eyes, face unreadable before contorting back into a grin, “Yuuup! These are actually Miu’s memento, so I can’t take full credit even though I’m the one who commissioned her.”
Kokichi stretched his arms out, fingertips nearly brushing against the girl's shoulder. He had been at arms-length now. “They disable any electric devices!” K1B0 suddenly backed away, “E-excuse me?” Kokichi grinned at the terrified robot. “Let’s try them out! K1B0 come here! Don’t worry, you’re just a robot so it doesn’t matter if you die!” K1B0 pointed at him with a shaky robotic hand, “T-that’s highly robophobic!”
Kokichi carelessly shrugged, “Well, it doesn’t matter. It’d be a waste as I only intended to get them to defeat Monokuma and the Monokubs after all.” K1B0′s facial expression had been slightly conflicted, he wasn’t sure how he felt about that answer.
Maki, despite still shaken up from Kaito’s coughing fit, held her harsh glare onto Kokichi, “Stop lying. You’ve been fixated on the killing game this entire time; you expect us to believe that?” Kokichi returned her glare with an unreadable blank one.
Shuichi stayed silent, going over Kokichi’s words and thinking over them carefully. ‘So she was right? He really wanted to end the killing game?’ Despite the clues that had finally attached themselves together in Shuichi’s head, a bad feeling remained in his stomach; rendering him unsure.
(they had tons of dialogue so i felt like i needed a halfway point so s/o could talk- idk if that's okay or not i sbhjbfjhkdbdhkb also i wrote too much—)

She blinked in surprise at Shuichi’s compliment. To be honest, she hadn’t expected anyone to remember her idea about the Exisals.
“Oh, uh, thank you. I guess we’re going there, then,” she murmured, tugging absently on a strand of hair.
As they walked, she wondered if Shuichi had caught onto how close she and Kokichi had been getting. He already knew about their debates and arguments; anyone within a ten mile radius knew about those. But had he seen their relationship shifting into something far more tender and caring? She hoped not, that would be too embarrassing and she really didn’t want to explain why Kokichi had spent the night in her room two days in a row either. They hadn’t actually done anything but denying it would lead to further suspicion. It was better that those sleepovers were kept to herself.
She glanced at Shuichi when she heard him speak and furrowed her brow. That was a really good question. She thought back to his actions and words before his disappearance, what was the one thing on his mind? The killing game, of course. Or, more specifically, the fact that it made her so angry and upset. He had said that she wouldn’t have to feel that way anymore.
“Shuichi, where would you go if you were planning to overthrow the mastermind and stop the killing game?” She asked suddenly as they approached the hangar. The entrance to the buildings loomed in front of them like the mouth of a cave, dark and ominous.
Shuchi’s eyes widened, his pace towards the gate stopping so abruptly, he almost tripped on his own shoe. “W-what?” Shuichi’s eyebrows furrowed, she was talking about Kokichi, right?
Though, as he thought over it more carefully, it did make sense—but as he thought of it more, it also didn’t. “Y-you think Kokichi might be planning to.. overthrow the mastermind? Why?” Shuichi had to take a long moment to try and understand the idea of it all.
It didn’t make sense, Kokichi always seemed to enjoy the killing game, then again... the possibility to lie about that too is strong, but Shuichi couldn’t think of a reason why he would lie about something like that. There were so many but’s, so many possibilities leading to possibilities, it started to hurt Shuichi’s head a bit.
He couldn’t think of how anything Kokichi did as a way to try and overthrow the mastermind... or maybe he just wasn’t looking hard enough? Questions had been filling his brain and spilling out, he wasn’t sure what to think anymore. Shuichi turned to look at S/o in an almost desperate manner, eyes expectant as he waited for her to clarify her theory.

The moment she lowered the weapon, she felt the tension in the room slowly reduce. She kept her eyes on Kokichi’s face, noting with interest how soft his eyes looked and how he was making nervous motions with his hand. She correctly guessed that her decisive action had both unnerved and frightened him. In a strange way, this only strengthened her belief in his true intentions.
Directly after her episode, the only thing that could be heard was an agonized coughing. She looked around in alarm in search of the troubling noise and caught sight of Kaito, doubled over on the floor with the remainder of his dinner in front of him. She frowned, wondering if it was as a result of her rash bluff or one of the strange maladies she’d briefly seen him suffering from. He always brushed it off but Kaito wasn’t particularly good at lying and she could read the deception on his face. Still, she hadn’t pushed it and instead opted to observe him more closely. Now though, she wondered if she had made the right decision.
She was brought back to the present when Kokichi started to speak again, his voice strident and brash as he brought their attention to the weapons he’d brought with him. She gazed at his ill gotten treasure trove, doubtfully examining the oversized hammers and other weapons he had obtained.
Her eyes widened when she heard where he had located the cache and she gave Shuichi a pointed look. She had been correct in assuming that Miu’s lab was one of Kokichi’s stops. She wondered how he had managed to get in and when he had commissioned the inventor. Apparently their tentative partnership hadn’t worked out in the end and she shuddered when thought of Miu’s murder. Glancing back at Kokichi, she wondered when their relationship had soured and why.
It was no use wondering about that now. They were at a pivotal point in their captivity, this fight would determine whether they would escape for, this hellhole or die until only two were left standing. The pressure of the situation wasn’t lost on her and her heart sped up at the possibilities and tragedies that could unfold. The thought gave her a headache which made her even more aware of the residual pain in her ear. She rubbed it absently as she listened to Kokichi’s further explanations.
She had to roll her eyes when she heard the little leader pestering K1B0 though. Right from the beginning, he seemed to take endless pleasure in teasing the robot. Well, it was nice to see some things hadn’t changed.
She suddenly sensed the ghost of a presence and whipped her head around. Kokichi had somehow managed to worm his way to where she was and now had his hand hovering just above her shoulder. She unconsciously bit her lip and met his gaze with gentle eyes. She wanted to reach out and take his hand but she hesitated, wondering if he would reject her caress now that they were around their peers.
She caught the blank look Kokichi gave in reply to Maki’s accusation and frowned. She had seen that expression before many times. Having a feeling of just what that look represented, she felt the need to defend him.
“Maki, you’re not being fair,” she protested “Kokichi went through all this trouble to get us these things so the least we could do is give him the benefit of a doubt.”
Gazing around at their ragtag group beseechingly, she said, “We need to get moving if we’re gonna do this. And Kaito said that we needed everyone in on this. So can we please get back to prepping?”
Kokichi almost mockingly at Maki, as if to say, ‘Haha, I win.’ to her with a smirk. Though despite the childish reaction; it was only a ruse to hide his true conflicted shock he had felt from the girl. Pinching his leg unnoticeably to rid himself of any unneeded feelings, he nodded furiously, “Listen to S/o!”
“Oh! And before you guys go fight Monokuma, or whatever- I forgot to mention something. Miu didn’t only make the Electro-hammers,” Kokichi tossed the bomb up again, a cheeky grin adorning his face, “She also made this old thing!” Kokichi explained the mechanisms of them with specific detailing, you know, like a nerd. “Once I pull this little thing,” He pointed at the top of the bomb, “For two hours, all electronic devices within 50 yards will be 100% disabled!
“Oh but, she only made three so I gotta use em sparingly. You guys’ll have to stick with the hammers, I guess.” Kokichi shrugged, positioning his arms behind his head.
“W-what makes you think we’ll even use the hammers?” K1B0 seemed a bit nervous to use it, especially after Kokichi’s detailed description of how the bombs disable machines so quickly like that.
“Did you not hear what S/o said? I went through all this trouble, you know! Just so I could make sure you guys could win! NIshishi!” Kokichi gestured to S/o with a smug grin, “And! The Electro-hammers can even help you guys go through the underground tunnel, you know. Just smack smack smack those electric traps, and boom! You’ve escaped.” The boy made it sound so easy.
“Well anyway! I’ll let you guys talk it over, you guys have S/o and... Kaito to help lead you to victory, right? Nishishi! I’ll get out of your way!” Kokichi turned on his heel, footsteps squeaking from the weird material of his shoes. “Well then, good luck!”
(i watched gameplay to make sure this was accurate, so if it sounds like its super copy-pasted, that's because it half is-)

She jumped as the evening announcement made its presence known in the noisiest manner possible. Breathing out a shaky sigh, she frowned when she noticed the absence of the obnoxious bear. Where in the world was Monokuma? Could he have possibly uncovered their plan? Her heart fluttered with anxiety at the thought.
Shuichi wasted wasted no time in getting moving and she reluctantly followed. She would’ve preferred to keep searching but she made a deal and there was no way she could go back on it now.
She nearly ran into him when he stopped suddenly and she had to take a step back to keep her balance. She felt her stomach give a sickening turn when he apologized and she fought the urge to sigh. She could pray that wherever he was, Kokichi was okay. She needed to believe that.
************
Kaito was just as fired up as he had been when he had made the announcement. She would have been more fired up had they actually had a tangible plan of some sort. Just the thought of battling with their captor in such a enclosed space made her mouth run dry.
Nevertheless, she didn’t want to abandon everyone either so ignoring the screaming warning in her head, she bent down and inspected their weaponry. It wasn’t terribly impressive. Most of the weapons were for close-range combat, something that made her even more nervous. She wished they had time to set up traps of some sort, that would be safer and probably more effective. Well, just because anyone else hadn’t thought of it, didn’t mean she couldn’t. She gathered some of the weapons and was about to set about putting a few traps together when a familiar pierced the air.
Her heart gave a few painful pumps as she stilled. Was it possible? She slowly turned around and saw the little imp looking as pleased as ever as he held a bomb. Her shock gave way to fear and she found herself acting without thinking, running towards him to snatch the bomb away.
Kokichi ignored the longing he felt, instead, forcing on his chilling grin as he waved the bomb around mockingly.
“Nishishi, you totally m—!” Kokichi had made the terrible mistake of blinking; because as soon as he opened his eyes once again, he saw a flash of colours followed by the sound of his shoes squeaking in an instinctual attempt to move away from the girl- Which only ended up half-effective. It turns out he hadn’t enough time to avoid the entire advance and toppled over with her on top.
“Holy shit, S/o!” Kaito watched in awe as she lunged towards his hand that contained the bomb, almost as if he was proud of such an unsafe action. “Hell yeah-! Ow!” Maki ignored his whine from her shove to his shoulder, “S/o, what the hell are you doing!?” her voice raised in alarm- as if she hadn’t just imagined strangling the poor boy just short of one second ago.
Kokichi fell to the ground with a painful thud, bomb rolling out of his hands and onto the floor, “The hell?” Kokichi was irritated, to say the least. Sure, he had definitely expected an attack from Maki, or even Kaito if he still had the energy, but from her? Not that he would admit it, but he felt a little hurt— then again, he was the one holding a bomb so he couldn’t say much.
Distrust... isn’t that what he wanted?
Oh right, he was holding a bomb. It seemed it only just hit Kokichi that S/o had charged towards him blindly, fully aware of the bomb that he had been holding. He forcefully exhaled a small puff, squirming underneath her tackle. If this had been in different circumstances, he probably would’ve been ecstatic to be under her— but the circumstances weren’t even close to that being okay.
He shuffled out from underneath her, grunting at the troublesome position. As he brushed himself off, the frown on his face remained temporary as he put his best smirk on. “Geez, you didn’t even get to hear my plan!” Kokichi bent down to grab the bomb before she could, ignoring the strain he had felt in his elbow.
“It’s as if you wanted to die from the bomb before I could even get the chance to kill you.” He spoke directly to her, the chilling, face-splitting grin he wore thankfully hid how much it had pained him to say that.
“Aww, but that wouldn’t have been any fun, wouldn’t it?” Kokichi turned away from her, instead, facing the detective that obviously had something to say about his threatening statement. “A-ha~! Saihara-chan is so predictable! I know exactly what you’re gonna say!” Kokichi threw his hands around in an exaggerating manner, hands juggling the pink bomb between both his hands carelessley— prompting the others to back away from him in fear of the bomb going off.
In a mocking tone, he started, “‘Kill? What does that mean?’ Mhm~ I’ll tell you dipshits what it means!” He laughed chaotically, hand tightening around the bomb. “I’m going to end this killing game, and kill all of you!”
Shuichi glared at him, a look of disbelief on his face, “K-Kokichi! This..! This is just another lie, isn’t it..!?” Tsumigi suddenly whipped her head towards Shuichi, a look of confusion and shock on her face, “H-he’s holding a-a literal bomb! L-look at all those weapons, he’s obviously brought enough because he was planning to kill all of us!” Shuichi exhaled a shaky breath, taking a small step back, “W-we can’t ever be sure of what Kokichi plans to do, he..” Shuichi trailed off, a cautious gaze glued onto the purple-haired boy.
Kokichi stayed silent, grin only widening. “Well, fine. I may have lied about one thing... But it was only to keep everyone else from getting super jelly!” Kokichi suddenly pointed at S/o, “Nishishi... I’m just not gonna kill her.” He ran the same hand through his hair, “The school rules said the game’ll end once two people are the last ones standing, right?” Kokichi wore a gentle smile, “I’ve decided those two people will be us.”

Although she started the search with renewed
energy, as time passed, she found her enthusiasm was steadily diminishing. By the end of it, her spirit had been completely dampened and she felt most acutely that they had wasted their time. Their search hadn’t uncovered anything new and Kokichi was nowhere to be found in the hangar.
Running a hand through her hair, she shrugged at Shuichi and answered, “It’s fine. I mean, I guess the hangar is a little obvious. I owe you an apology cause I made everyone go on this wild goose chase. I didn’t about how small he is and how could fit anywhere and...”
Her voice trailed off and she frowned, deep in thought. Where should they search next? The last night she saw him, there had been various allusions to ending the killing game. If she wanted to end it, she would need tools to use. Where would she get those tools?
“Let’s go to Miu’s lab,” she said suddenly “Even if we don’t find him there, we might be able to get stuff we can use.”
She exhaled deeply as she thought of the late inventor’s fate. True, she hadn’t been very fond of her but Miu didn’t deserve to die. There was so much she could have given to the world both her and Gonta. She hoped the project she had started upon their deaths would somehow keep their memories alive. No one deserved to be forgotten.
Shuichi hesitated for a moment, to go back into Miu’s lab... She had died so recently, and the wound had still been fresh. But if S/o was right, and she did have weapons, then... It would be worth it. Miu would’ve wanted them to escape with her inventions she takes pride in, wouldn’t she?
A ghost of a sad smile dawned over Shuichi’s face, and he forcefully snapped himself out of his daze, “U-uh, yeah.” He flinched at his nervous tone of voice; though it was reasonable, Miu’s body had still been...
It didn’t matter.
Shuichi couldn’t dwell on the past, he had to focus on the future, the future that they would have; that isn’t in this goddamn game.
Though he felt a bit uneasy about entering the late inventor’s lab, he took a deep breath before trying to open the door, fully expecting for it to swing open. Shuichi cocked his head to the side as he tugged with a little more force, his previous anxiety now replaced with confusion.
What’s up with this place and locked doors—?
Eyes widening, he felt his brain replay the moment the door to Rantaro’s lab had exploded, “S/o, get back!” He immediately called out for her, remember the damage that had already been done last time.
He ran far away from the door, despite not hearing any indicator of a bomb, Shuichi would rather be safe than sorry.
But the detective only felt his embarrassment increase as each second passed; no bomb going off. His hands that had been clamped over his ears, as well as his eyes that had been clenched close, combined with his curled up position, looked stupider within each second.
........
Shuichi let out a sigh as he unfolded himself, a humiliated tint of pink on his face as he stood up, “S-sorry for scaring you, I just...” He didn’t continue, the boy didn’t exactly need to further explain; S/o had been the one most affected by the bomb. He wonders now, a day too late if her ears had healed fully.

“Hey, I love you....”
The words Kokichi had uttered in her dream came back to her and this made her tears flow even more freely. Why hadn’t she told him her true feelings for him? Why didn’t she let him know that he had been the one person here able to shine a light in her lonely life? The questions came at her in rapid fire, one after another until she was crying so hard, she could barely breathe. As she sobbed into her pillow, she couldn’t help but wish that somehow she could slip away into a dreamless sleep and never wake up.
***********
There was the sound of an obnoxious chiming followed by an equally obnoxious voice. Her eyes slowly opened and she realized with a start that it was morning. Sometime during the night between the tears and the guilt, she must have fallen asleep. Now that she was awake, her head ached and her throat burned and she was sure her eyes looked like raisins. She was tempted to stay in her room.
Then she thought of Kokichi and forced herself to get up. A cursory glance in the mirror confirmed what she already knew; she looked terrible. The dark circles under her eyes only emphasized their redness and they were as puffy as could be. If she went to the cafeteria like that, everyone would know the she had been crying and she wasn’t mentally prepared for the pitying glances and murmured words of comfort they were sure to toss her way.
Looking around, she saw her hoodie laying on the counter and quickly slipped it on, careful to pull the hood over her head. The hood pushed some of her hair forward and succeeded in obscuring most of her face. Good. The only way anyone would be able to see her expression would be if they were looking up at her.
As she put on the rest of her outfit, she noticed something. Lifting her hands, she snapped her fingers first in one ear and then the other. It seemed that her hearing had been restored during the night. So much the better, it was a lot safer for her to leave her room with all her senses intact. She just hoped that this would also help her in locating Kokichi.
**************
When she entered the dining hall, she immediately noticed a change in the atmosphere. There was a strange sort of excitement pervading the air and from what she could tell, it seemed to be coming directly from Kaito. He looked like he was about to explode and she wondered what had happened yesterday to bring about this sudden change,
She sat down close enough to hear everyone but far enough for there to be a reasonable distance from the others. She leaned forward, allowing her hair to conceal her face from any questioning stares.
As soon as Kaito counted everyone’s heads for the 8th time, he grinned as he counted six— Kokichi probably wasn’t going to show up anyway, the little gremlin seemed dead-set on not revealing himself.
Shuichi spoke up before Kaito could start his speech, eyes furrowed in worry at Kokichi’s absence. “Did anyone find where Kokichi was? Sh-should we even start without him?” Despite not being a huge fan of the small boy, Shuichi still had the right to be worried. This was the killing game, for all they know he could’ve been...
Kaito swivelled the conversation topic off Kokichi, finding no reason to worry about him, or just finding he didn’t care.
“Listen up everyone!”
Kaito then proceeded to explain his plan to fight Monokuma. His voice was booming, enthusiastic, until the end as he waited for everyone’s response. Though the silence he had received definitely threw him off. He was sure they were going to be as excited as he was, this was their way out..! He frowned at the silence, waiting for someone to at least agree with him.
Tsumigi darted her eyes around the room nervously, waiting for someone to at least give the poor guy a response. Sighing, she broke the nervous silence, “But, isn’t that dangerous? What if he ends up k-killing us all in return?” Kaito stayed silent for a moment, before speaking up with confidence laced in his voice, “Then we’ll have to take the risk. We need to take action against Monokuma, and we need to do it now! Or when else will we do it?”
Maki sat in silent agreement, despite believing his idea as reckless and borderline stupid, he had a point. Before Tsumigi could counter his rash remark, K1B0 suddenly spoke up, “We should do it.” His voice was confident as if he was 100% sure it would all somehow work out, “My inner voice... it’s telling me, we have to.”
Shuichi watched as he witnessed what seemed like a domino effect, K1B0′s positivity seemed to bounce on Himiko, “What a confident demeanour... Very well! I will use my magic to help defeat Monokuma! Oh, but it’s still recharging.” Then to Tsumigi, “Well... If Himiko will, I will too!” Then to... Oh, it was his turn.
Darting his eyes around the dining room, they landed on S/o expectantly, shifting everyone’s attention on her instead.

She stopped a few paces ahead of Shuichi and looked back at him. She wasn't surprised at the shock in his face; he already had his own preconceived notions about Kokichi. In fact, she'd be hard pressed to find anyone who didn't have an opinion about the so-called leader and it would be even harder to find someone who didn't have a negative opinion about him. To be fair, Kokichi hadn't gone out of his way to create the best impression with his peers but at least in the very beginning he had tried to get along with everyone else.
She remained silent for a few seconds, trying to gather her thoughts so she could explain her reasoning to the detective.
Finally, she said, "Have you ever looked at him? Really looked at him whenever he talked about how much he loved the killing game? Did you ever think that maybe....that was a lie too?"
Darting her eyes nervously at him, she continued, "When we started hanging out, Kokichi told me that he wanted to make sure that I-...no one would have to feel angry or upset or anything anymore. And he looked like he meant it."
She bit her lip as the memory of the determined look on Kokichi's face drifted back into her mind. Even now, she was positive he hadn't been lying. In the close quarters they had been forced to live in, she had been able to closely observe Kokichi and it was through this that she was able to discern his mannerisms, his gestures, and, more importantly, his tells. Getting to know him even further during the last few days only cemented her belief that his claims to enjoy the sadistic game were, in fact, lies. He was just as afraid and upset as they were, he just happened to hide it behind a mask of bravado and cockiness.
Shuichi reflected her words carefully, furrowing his brow at the question. Looked... at Kokichi? His expressions were always exaggerated, Shuichi could never tell if they were artificial or not, no matter how hard he tried- it was almost like Kokichi had a collection of masks, all unbroken. Whatever Shuichi was looking at, he was never sure.
There was no telling what Kokichi lied about and didn’t lie about, he was just,, so frustratingly confusing. Shuichi’s eyes widened at her statement, “... Kokichi said that?” Shuichi had a baffled expression on his face, eyes widened in disbelief.
Now Shuichi had no idea how far their relationship could have gotten, all he knew was that Kokichi had been touchy with the girl before they both left the dining room in a hurry. Though he could strongly tell that something had happened while they were gone—I mean, she seemed to be the only one attached to Kokichi, the only who... cared about him as much as she did; whether that was because she was more compassionate than the others, or whether that was because of an event that happened between them... He didn’t know.
Shuichi winced, hesitating before he verbalized his doubts, “A-are you sure he meant it? I... don’t mean to offend you but, there’s a strong possibility he had.. he could have lied to you too.” Shuichi looked a bit shameful to speak, though he didn’t want to doubt her thinking, he couldn’t help but think that Kokichi could have been lying about that too.
The words she had spoken hadn’t penetrated Shuichi’s doubt completely, I mean, Kokichi. The boy actively aggravated others with his pranks that no one knew the reason behind, and seemed to enjoy it. The boy who sometimes, upset Shuichi the most... didn’t want anyone to feel upset? It just didn’t make sense, Kokichi.. just didn’t make sense.
But it wasn’t a possibility Shuichi could list out for sure.
Even as Kokichi aggravated him often, terrorized people during the class trials, there always felt as if there was something Shuichi had missed or wasn’t seeing. Kokichi, that... evil grin he wore, Shuichi could never detect any mal intent behind it. Could that mean... Kokichi himself, didn’t contain any mal intent?

“You had all day yesterday to think of something and that’s all you came up with?” She asked incredulously. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to get out of here; that was practically the only thing she thought of since they arrived. But Kaito’s strategy was nonexistent; it seemed he expected that if they fought with determination somehow the tides would be turned in their favor and they would be able to overpower Monokuma. And he expected them to trust HIM with the planning? The very same person who got pissed at Shuichi for going against him even though the wrong vote would lead to all their deaths. The same guy who thought that they should believe in everyone (except Kokichi).
Now, she wasn’t pessimistic, not by a long shot. Deep in her heart, she wanted to believe that there was good in everyone even if it took a little bit to see it. But she was also aware that there were definite shades of ambiguity, that sometimes good people did snap and committed the unimaginable. So while every death and execution pierced her heart, she didn’t allow herself to nurture even a false hope that she could trust her peers. That would be her fatal mistake.
There was something else that bothered her about Kaito’s words and attitude. It seemed he had completely forgotten about Kokichi. Either that or he didn’t care. She felt a surge of irritation at his insistence that they all needed to pitch in even though they were still one short. Yes, Kokichi and Kaito had always had a strong rivalry between them but she would have thought, or maybe she hoped, that this wouldn’t affect their desire to see everyone survive. Apparently, this wasn’t the case for Kaito. He’d just as soon exclude Kokichi from his plans and leave without him and that was something she just wasn’t willing to do. She would rather die than leave anyone behind especially Kokichi.
She looked at Shuichi for reassurance only to find that he too seemed to fall under the spell of Kaito’s easy confidence. Really, the detective looked as though he actually believed that they would be able to escape while under his friend’s command. If she was going to take a stand, she was going to be doing it alone.
Taking a deep breath, she murmured, “I’m sorry but I can’t do this. One, we still don’t have any idea what we’re up against. The mastermind could be listening to us right now! And two, we’re still down one person. I can’t just forget about him like that and neither should you. He’s still one of us and I need to make sure he’s okay.”
She found the resolve to raise her chin just a bit higher and return Kaito’s steady gaze with one of her own, having completely forgotten the damage that had been done to her eyes the night before.
Kaito opened his mouth to retort, though he was soon interrupted as she spoke of another person that he forgot existed. Who..? Realization struck and his grin faltered, instead, he expressed disappointment. “You’re still worrying about that guy..?” He shook his head, slumping his shoulders in dejection, “Kokichi’s probably fine, you don’t have to worry about him.” Kaito spoke in a casual way, he didn’t know truly if he was fine, but in all honesty, he still didn’t really care.
The fucker really got on his nerves in the last trial, and whatever faith he had for Kokichi ultimately died out after he manipulated Gonta like that. So in turn, he selfishly decided he would exclude him from the group. Though Kokichi’s disappearance wasn’t Kaito’s doing, it probably would’ve been; he would beat him to a pulp if it weren’t for his illness.
Speaking of his illness... He darted his tired head back up at S/o, “You have to help us, we need as much manpower as we can get! And... if the mastermind or whatever is listening, who cares!? We’re going to beat them up anyway! Right after we destroy Monokuma!” Unlike his dejected demeanour from earlier, his confident and leader-like personality sprung back to him and made its encore in his loud voice.
Lowering his tone of voice, he pleaded with her, “Please, S/o, help us end this stupid game, once and for all.” The pressuring hard gazes of everyone seemed to be focusing on her, waiting for her to make her decision.
Not shortly after Kaito had spoken, Himiko took up the chance to accuse S/o once again, “I told you guys! She’s evil! Nyehh..! I can feel it..! She’s radiating bad energy...” Himiko took a step back, glaring at S/o cautiously. “I bet you she’s gonna find Kokichi and tell him about the plan, t-then..! They’re both gonna fight us!”
Shuichi furrowed his brow at Himiko, why was she so dead-set on making S/o and Kokichi the bad guys? Before he could even get the chance to speak up, Kaito cut him off unintentionally, “Stop suspecting her! If... fine, if S/o doesn’t want to help then... whatever, but you have to stop suspecting our friends! I know everyone here, and none of them would do something like that! None of us is the mastermind!” Kaito’s voice rose in frustration and yet again, spoke in paragraphs.

Upon hearing a strange muffled warbling sound, she turned around and saw that Shuichi seemed to be addressing her. As for WHAT he was saying, she couldn't even fathom. While she wasn't in complete silence anymore, what she was able to hear was still pretty limited so actually making sense of the sounds pouring out of Shuichi's mouth was impossible.
The detective seemed to sense something was amiss as she noticed that his expression slowly growing more and more concerned. His voice was still muffled but he must've said something to irk K1B0. His voice was also indiscernible but it sounded a bit louder and the look on his face told her that it wasn't because of excitement.
Shuichi didn't seem to notice as his attention was still squarely on her. Although she knew he was just worried about her, watching him eyeing her so attentively made her squirm. She looked away and started to stare intently at some of the debris the explosion had scattered.
From the corner of her eye, she noticed that the detective was gesturing more expressively than usual and his tone of voice had risen. This time she was able to catch enough of his words to realize that he was suggesting that they give up for the day and just go to bed.
She frowned. After the day's exertions, she had expected that they would have made some sort of progress. Instead, the doors opened seemed to raise even more questions and they were still no closer to finding Kokichi or finding any clues about this place. She sighed and suddenly felt the day's activities crushing in on her. Maybe it would be better if they just went to bed for now. At the very least she would get a chance to collect her thoughts not to mention let her ears recover.
Glancing back at Shuichi, she gave him a half-hearted nod before shoving her hands into her pockets. Gazing dismally at the floor, she wondered if anyone would try to attack her while she slept. Her temporary hearing impairment certainly put her at a disadvantage and she wondered if anyone would use it against her.
As they all headed back to the dormitories, Shuichi, despite not want to admit it, felt as if the day had been a waste. They hadn’t found Kokichi, he now knew of a hanger full of dangerous immobile Exisals, Rantaro’s lab couldn’t be accessed and K1B0 almost got crushed to death. He couldn’t help but feel as if the days were getting more and more helpless, all the clues given to them, they weren’t enough to give him a solid explanation of where they were, how they could get out, and why there were there.
During their walk back to their rooms, Kaito suddenly bumped into them, “Oh. Hey, you guys missed our meeting earlier. We couldn’t find you guys, so we just did it without you.” He grinned sheepishly, averting his eyes away from Shuichi. The tension was painfully obvious, and it lowkey kinda hurt the detective.
“Don't worry! We couldn’t find the flashback light, so you guys didn’t miss anything.” His voice was still optimistic despite the shittiness of the situation, he seemed oddly positive about this whole thing as if he knew it was going to get better. “Well uh, get some rest! We have a big day tomorrow!” He left promptly, pushing down the urge to slap Shuichi in the back.
A big day tomorrow? He had left them a bit confused, what were they going to do tomorrow that was going to be big? Well, there’s the search for Kokichi but... Shuichi decided he would postpone his thought tomorrow, Kaito always seemed optimistic anyway, every day was a big day for him.
As he bid his farewells to the others, he made his way to his dorm. The moment he closed the door behind him, he felt a wave of exhaustion hit him and his knees somewhat buckle. He just wanted to go to bed, the nighttime announcement hadn’t rung yet but he was too tired to care.
Kokichi’s message, the tension between him and Kaito, S/o’s hopefully temporary loss of hearing, everything just felt like a big headache.

Was she crazy? Probably. But after spending time in this crazy place, it wasn’t surprising. Seeing the bomb had triggered an almost instinctual response and her only thought was saving everyone. If she accidentally triggered the thing, she could either throw it or smother with her own body. Actually, being blown to smithereens didn’t sound so bad anymore. At least she wouldn’t have to vote anyone to death.
But she hadn’t calculated on going so fast that she was unable to stop. Instead of getting close enough to snatch away the explosive, she ended up careenIng into him instead. They both fell over from the impact as she landed right on top of him. In other circumstances, she would have been lit up like a fire truck but the danger of the situation was too great for her to even notice.
Her heart stopped as the bomb rolled out of his grasp and she scrambled forward to grab it. Unfortunately, she had momentarily forgotten that Kokichi was as quick as he was sly. He had somehow maneuvered his way out from under her and snatched up the escaped bomb before she even got close.
Her breath caught in her throat as Kokichi spoke, his words casually threatening. Her stomach gave a sickening turn as she slowly looked up at him. She tried to decipher what was going on behind that malevolent smile of his but her own feelings were making that almost impossible. He intended to...kill them? The enormity of that betrayal hit her like an avalanche and between that and the increasingly painful ringing in her ears, it was proving difficult to concentrate on reading his expression.
Kokichi turned around before she could sort anything out and started addressing Shuichi. She could see him tossing the bomb from one hand to another and felt a chill work it’s way up her spine. Was this the truth? Was this how he intended to end the killing game?
When he suddenly pointed to her, she felt her heart drop. Since they first awoke her, she had been careful to keep the rules in mind but that was the one she had completely forgotten about. She didn’t think it was possible that their group would have been would have been whittled down to so few and certainly hadn’t anticipated being one of them. And she DEFINITELY hadn’t expected the rest of the group to be eliminated in one fell swoop.
Looking back up at him, she noticed the smile he now wore was softer and did not match the deadly words he was speaking. Her mind was swirling. She didn’t want to live. Not if everyone else died. How could he do this? Did he mean it?
Her eyes drifted over the weapons everyone had gathered and an idea took root. One thing was for certain, she refused to survive if she had to step on her peers’ corpses. Getting up, she took off for her target at a speed that surprised even her. She could feel her lungs burning and body hurt from her collision with Kokichi but she ignored it as she snatched up the weapon she wanted, a gun. Just the sight of it terrified her but she pushed past the fear and readied it the way she saw Maki do it earlier. Then she held it up and pressed the muzzle directly to her head.
“I told you already, no one controls me,” she said, her voice eerily calm “And that includes you.”
Was she crazy? Probably.
Kokichi’s smile faltered as she started to full-on sprint towards the pile of weapons, facial expression slightly taken aback— Had he lied that well? Half of him had expected her to call him out on his bullshit, but it seemed she was off her game. Well shit, if he doesn’t expose his lie now, she might actually kill him-
“S/o, don’t!” Shuichi cried out, yellow eyes widening in shock; ‘The hell was she doing!?’ Shuichi’s brain had been scrambled, he couldn’t think of a single reason why she would do something like that. That wouldn’t help anyone, that would just... Make everything way worse than it already is.
Variations of what Shuichi had cried out washed across the small group of people, “S/o, please put the gun down!” K1B0 stepped forward slowly, analyzing her carefully as to predict any regretful actions she may make.
Whatever trace of a smile Kokichi had left, dissipated as he watched her point a gun to her head. Kokichi expected her to point the gun at him, to point the gun at the sky, her classmates even— But not her own head. Kokichi felt his entire world stop for a moment, seeing her so close to death, it wasn’t something he enjoyed witnessing, nor ever wanted to witness in his life. He could still hear the muffled shouts for her to stop, but everything else felt like water to him. All he could see was her, and a gun pointed directly at her skull. If she really decided to pull the trigger, she’d...
His brain-melting thoughts shifted into distressed shock and almost anger. ‘What the actual fuck!?’ Kokichi felt his breathing speed up, his hands trembling around the bomb; almost unnoticeable.
Why was she even..? Swallowing it all down, he inhaled shakily before putting on his best smirk, closing his eyes that showed everything he wanted to say but didn’t, “Nishishi!” He was somehow still able to force out his laugh despite his heart feeling like it had been stomped on by Gonta. Kokichi was having a hard time breathing, and he hoped to god his words would be able to stop her, “No need to do anything rash!” ‘Please let go of the gun.’
He hesitated stepping towards her, despite his smile, he was terrified; if it wasn’t for the blaring lies he wouldn’t stop repeating to himself, he would’ve dropped to the ground and started sobbing.
“It”s a lie after all!” Kokichi’s voice remained loud and cheerful, grin unfaltering. “Nishishi! I was lying to see if you guys were willing to do anything to win! Aaaand! It seems like you really are!” He gestured to S/o, “So I can drop the lie now.” Kokichi beamed as he continued his lies, eyes opening to peak at S/o from the corner of his eye. He wasn’t going to continue until she put that gun down; the tips of his shoes had been directed towards her, he was ready to tackle her to the ground if she tried anything.
His mischievous voice echoed in the large gym, the statement had brought anger, horror, shock and relief to everyone who had practically been hyperventilating from S/o’s sudden action.
tw; vomit just in case!!
Kaito had thrown up from it all, violent wheezes and coughs escaping his system as Maki rushed to his side.
