Something to post for the meantime that I can't draw anything new! This patreon request from 2022! They have a little more anime-ish facial features for some reason. (Must be my inspiration at the time.)
They're dressed up because of some important event. It was Connie's day, (a promotion? Idk what specifically tho.) but she just wanted a simple makeup so Steven toned down his own to hopefully not take the attention away from her.
Page 2 might be confusing. There's a headcanon that Steven can store a couple of things in his gem, and here he positioned their hands over his stomach to place the glow bracelet.
To disclose!! (if I'm using the word correctly?) , there's a NSFW continuation of this. So be warned.

Let's talk about macrocrystalline quartz vs microcrystalline quartz. I see sooooo many people argue over these in rockhounding groups that I think it is important to address. First, they are the same chemical formula
Tumblr media
Whether it's amethyst or chert this is what it is on an atomic level. So, what makes them different?
Well, a big part is how they are formed. Macrocrystalline quartz grows by adding molecules to the surface, layer by layer. It essentially grows in three different environments:
1.) In silica-rich molten rock during cooling and solidification
Tumblr media
2.) in pegmatites, during and following pneumatolytic processes
Tumblr media
3.) In hot water solutions of silica under various conditions (usually hydrothermal) The water is between 100 and 450 degrees Celsius and often at high pressures. (underground)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are no free SiO2 molecules in the solution, instead quartz crystals grow by the addition of dissolved orthosilicic acid (H2SiO4). The four photos above show the process on a very basic level.
In igneous rocks, the formation of quartz is caused by positively and negatively charged ions floating around in the molten rock soup. In fact, these silicate ions cause magmas to become more viscous. SiO4- usually forms long chains in the magma.
When magmas cool rapidly, like at the point of eruption, the chains don't have time to break and new bonds to form so silica-rich magmas often for volcanic glass or pumice.
Tumblr media
When magmas cool slowly under the surface, like in granite, crystals of different minerals will in the melt in order of chemical composition. With granite, micas form first, the feldspars, then finally quartz. Because quartz is last, it usually doesn't have great shape since it is filling in all available space.
Quartz in magmas will often have an onion-like internal structure of layers added on top of each other reflecting a gradual change in the residual liquid parts of the solidifying magma.
Okay, now for the microcrystalline quartz: chert and chalcedony (and the bazillion names given to different colored varieties of that).
Tumblr media
Chert can form under two different processes: biochemical and and replacement through solution in water.
Biochemical chert is formed when siliceous skeletons of marine plankton are dissolved during diagenesis with silica precipitating out from the resulting solution.
Tumblr media
Replacement chert forms when other material is replaced by silica usually by water such as petrified wood.
Tumblr media
Chert has the same properties as macrocrystalline quartz i.e. same hardness, fracture, etc.
Chalcedony also forms by precipitation of dissolved silica in water but it is usually formed from watery silica gels which give it the botryoidal look it is well-known for.
It is often deposited in cavities and fractures, spaces too small to form proper quartz crystals, by the release of silica from weathering of other rocks (often volcanic in origin).

Isn't quartz wild?

Remembering the toxic hellscape that was 2015-2019ish SU fandom and just how much hate the show got is really insane when you rewatch the show after it's been a while. Like the show is good what the hell were any of these people talking about
#do NOT quote me on those numbers i pulled them straight out of my ass#like the ending was rushed and the diamonds didnt get to be fully developed but liek#the whole reason that was the case is there was an entire 6th season planned#and then the show got axed early because rebecca sugar and crew refused the back down on the rupphire wedding.#and even rushedness aside like the point of the show was never that you should hug fascists and forgive people no matter what#the diamond were rose's (and his) dysfunctional family whose personal suffering became the basis for the cruelty of gem society#bismuth in The Real World would have been right to want to kill the diamonds as a force of revolution#but the point of the show is that even the most complicated people are still people who can change. even if you dont forgive them#even steven quartz universe the most loving boy in the world very obviously does not like being around the diamonds. but that is how it is#it was a children's show that emphasized compassion and communication and family as themes. of course steven didnt kill the diamonds lol#i really fully believe the stevenbomb format (which was not the crew's choice or fault) cooked peoples' brains#you had months between major arcs so every wrongdoing by a character had months to be warped and misinterpreted and so no resolution could#ever satisfy fans who were festering with their own opinions for way too long#like these arcs looking back are not that long and they resolve in fairly reasonable manners but they took fuckin forever in real time to#wrap up#and ppl on the internet with no other hobbies than arguing made the fandom suck to be in and gave su a bad name#even if you dont like steven universe i think the amount of vitriol thrown at the show is/was fucking INSANE for what it is lmaooo#people were so so jolly to accuse rebecca sugar (a jewish lady) of being a fascist/fash sympathizer and paint every writing shortcoming or#morally dubious character action as a sign of pure fuckin evil#ok that was a long ass fuckin rant in the tags i am so sorry i'm just kind of opinionated on this matter as i am all matters#i've been rewatching su with my dad lately and this very normal and well paced and fun watchthrough experience has been illuminating#just how insane and uncalled for the hellish discourse sphere around su was/is#i say was/is i have no idea what su discourse is like nowadays. i'm too scareds to look in the su crit tag

Highly recommend simply looking at the mud and rocks and such today if you have some free time on your hands. You might find something super cool!
(I did some poking around just yesterday, found a bunch of acorns, moss, and even some deer tracks!)

the quartz kingdom 💎 rules
Loosely adapted from Kiwi the Cat's Kingdom Challenge series on YouTube.
Hierarchy
King/Queen/Regent: This cat is the leader of the kingdom, possessing the highest authority over all of the cats in the kingdom. The leader may choose whether or not to patrol, at their own discretion.
Prince/Princess/Heir: The children of the leader. The eldest kitten of the leader will inherit the throne. The line of succession follows the children's birth order, with no preferential treatment according to gender. Ideally, the leader's children will be accompanied by a parent or a knight when on patrol.
Consort: The leader's mate and deputy, but acts only as a figurehead. The consort enjoys several privileges, including no mandatory patrols and leniency for any rule-breaking they commit.
Advisor: The leader's right hand, functional deputy, and acting mediator. This cat offers advice to the leader. The advisor is the highest-ranking noble and holds sway over all other nobles, knights, and peasants. When the current advisor retires or dies, a replacement is chosen from among the kingdom's youngest cats.
Medic/Healer/Cleric: This cat heals the cats of the kingdom using their knowledge of herbal remedies. Their rank is similar to that of the advisor, and the two often disagree over who possesses the higher rank. Most medics disdain the advisor's commands, believing their power over life and death excludes them from taking orders. When the medic requires an assistant, a new healer is selected from among the kingdom's youngest members; only cats younger than three moons can be chosen. The medic role overrides even royal or noble blood; a cat is born to this position. In accordance with this rule, no outside healers may be accepted into this position; they must be demoted to peasants.
Nobles: Those of noble rank include relatives of the royal family and cats recognized by the royal family for various reasons, usually a merit-based appointment. These cats do not have to patrol each moon, but many do according to personal preference.
Knights: In order for a peasant to become a knight, they must earn a scar or otherwise protect the royal family in some way. This is the highest rank most peasant-born cats can aspire to. Knights often accompany the royal family on patrols; they must patrol every moon but have the responsibility to decide whether or not to proceed. If a royal dies while under a knight's watch, the knight is exiled in disgrace for failing in their duty.
Squires: Children or close kin of knights, they are trained by their family, usually their parents. They can only become full knights if they earn a scar or their knight mentor retires. On occasion, a squire who goes above and beyond for their kingdom may receive a knighthood posthumously. Squires are subject to the same patrolling rules as knights: they must patrol every moon, but may decide not to proceed in a dangerous situation.
Peasants: The lowest rank in the kingdom, most cats are peasants. Parents are responsible for training their own children, and elders cannot retire unless they have living family to support them. Orphaned peasant trainees will be assigned to train under the kingdom's eldest knight. Peasants must patrol every moon, and must proceed regardless of danger.
Rules
The royal bloodline must inherit the throne. If all royals die, the position goes to the highest-ranking noble (except the medic and advisor). If there are no nobles, the next leader will be the firstborn kit of the next litter, and their family members will become nobles. The leader's kits are higher in the line of succession than the leader's siblings.
Knights must go on patrol every moon, but may choose whether or not to proceed. Peasants always patrol and always proceed. The only exceptions to this rule are patrols that would add a new cat to the kingdom; it is up to the player's discretion whether to invite all newcomers or not. Personally, I don't accept new outsiders once I reach one full page of cats. Also, either reject outside healers or demote them to peasants (warriors).
Settings
General
Nutrition system off (resources > prey_config > set top two values to false)
Show exact xp
Allow dead cats to fade away
Enable Clan page background
Show moons and seasons widget
Relation
Allow cats to breed with cats that aren't their mates
Allow cats to have kittens with an unknown second parent (toggle as needed)
Cats who have litters have "allow kits" toggled off until their current kits are at least 12 moons old
Role
Disable experience-based graduation
Cats will never retire due to a permanent condition
The kingdom doesn't believe in StarClan, so leaders only have one life. Once they die, they're dead for good.
