Milan Italy
In this episode, the FAQ is: How do I manage increasing technology and security for travel?
  Today’s Destination is: Milan, Italy
Today’s Misstep- I almost took a train to Switzerland at the Milan station
Travel Advice: Bring a handheld portable fan for the heat. It can be oppressive.
FAQ: The level of technology and security has stepped up for travel and entertainment. How do I manage it as a senior citizen in a very busy world?
  Answer:
There is a growing level of distrust in today’s environment. For some venues, you can no longer use a screenshot of a QR code to access a ticket, so it must be a live link if you don’t have the paper ticket. If you are not on Wi-Fi, you may have trouble accessing the venue, like I did in July at the Symphony, where we used handwritten paper tickets.
The Crowdstrike tech shutdown of computers in July 2024, with thousands of airline flights canceled, was a peek into what could be an even longer period of shutting down air travel, train travel, and more. So, you need to develop options for adapting your transportation.
Get educated.
The questions will keep coming, but you can figure it out. Keep listening here for more confidence-building guidance.
  Today’s destination: Milan, Italy
Milan is in northern Italy and is known for its history, culture, and fashion. Many styles originate here, so people-watching is a favorite activity.
The famous Duomo Cathedral, a Catholic Church, is in the city's center. I walked around twice to get the full picture and people-watch. I also did some pigeon watching, as there were plenty of them here in this vast square, filled with tourists in the middle of July. Metro stops were plentiful below the square, and the church filled the plaza. People are walking above the church’s structure, near the roof, and you can see them below.
Shopping:
You can shop at great stores, especially in the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele II. It’s great even just for looking for fashion ideas.
Tip 2: Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

""Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly." – Mary Howitt, The Spider and the Fly
guess who’s back, back again. @fieriframes is back, tell a friend! just over a year after the guy fieri-inspired ARG took over my life, tumblr have brought us back to where it all began with a brand-new puzzle to solve.
our first puzzle was tagged with “et in arcadia ego”, which translates literally to “even in arcadia, there am i” and is mostly associated with the 1630s painting by nicolas poussin. our new tag, “i tego arcana dei” means “begone! i conceal the secrets of god” and just so happens to be an anagram of our beloved former tag. both phrases also were used initially in the maranatha puzzles, hence why i’ve taken to calling the ARG a “puzzle.”
last time, we took just over a month. we decoded, analysed, googled. we had to play a game to work out a key, we had to unlock different blogs with different passwords and we learned to recognise voynich manuscript text by sight. @significantfoliage, @puwumats and myself all created conspiracy theory boards. (it was a Choice)
and now, here we are again.
mars (@prettyokayray) was the first one of us to notice that a new gif, inscribed with voynich, had been posted yesterday. going back, we realised that the blog had been posting several other gifsets with the tag “i tego arcana dei” over the past week or so, each one containing a hidden tarot card illustrated by leonora carrington, who was an important person in last year’s puzzle. each post was also given a caption from a poem written by leonora titled “The Cave.” In order, earlier to latest, these were:
the lovers (VI) - "albino raven"
the high priestess (II) - "drink all darkness from heaven"
the lovers (VI) - "dark, dark buzzards"
the high priestess (II) - "sign to the mask that once belonged to life"
the emperor (IV) - "albino raven"
the chariot (VII) - "you are the antidote"
the empress (III) - "the hanged one"
the hierophant (V) - "pours images"
the magician (I) - "into saturated eyes"
the fool (X) - "two ink spies"
after checking through the cards and making sure all of our ducks were in order, mars and gabriel (@ijustwannabeavampire) worked out that what we had was a phone number.
so we called it.
at first, all we had was some spooky and atmospheric piano music. we knew it had to be something important, but we were stumped because we couldn’t identify it. signi eventually worked out that it was a piece called “Who Is The Dreamer?” by ‘Midnight Caller’, both of which sounded connected to the first ARG where we spent time talking to someone called the “Midnight Caller” while we tried to work out who the “dreamer” was (@amithedreamer). obviously this was promising.
the song was from an album released 17 february 2022 called, get this, arcana, an album which also features bangers like “hořčický”, which just so happens to be the name of 17th century bohemian man who was rumoured to be connected with the voynich manuscript, the script from which being the cluemaster’s favourite cipher for us to decode. further, the composer for the songs as they were published to YouTube was listed as “oneiro grant alcorn”, and oneiro had once upon a time been a password we’d deciphered towards the end of the original flavortown ARG.
yes, you’ve heard that correct. tumblr created and published a fake music album. you’ve got to admire the dedication.
anyway, while we were trying to work out what to do with all of this information, signi realised that there was a portion of the album artwork (commissioned by an artist on behance) above the head of the left figure which looked like some form of code.
Tumblr media
it clearly wasn’t morse (the dashes were just too long), and after ester cleaned up the code we were still confused, only this time because it looked familiar–almost like a QR code, except those usually have squares in the corners...
right?
yes, of course, we decided to put squares in the corners and see if that led us anywhere. and it did! reed got there quickest, and scanning the code led us to a blog with the url i tego arcana dei – clearly we’re getting somewhere now.
except the blog is password protected, and we’re still working on cracking it based on what little we have and what guesses we’re able to make. the background image for the blog appears to be from the voynich manuscript, but all of the voynich has been removed and so have the page numbers.
shortly after we worked out the album clue (sorta), we thought to check one of last time’s connected blogs, and worked out that the voynich previously on the page had changed. it now reads “the world has shifted.”
both myself and mars messaged the blog with the translation, but for now we’ve had no response. and thus, with most of us either needing to sleep (ignore the fact it’s currently around 3.30am for me) or fulfill real-world obligations, the curtains have fallen on what has arguably become day 1 of the flavortown ARG 2: electric boogaloo.
if you made it this far, congratulations! this post (and the subsequent ones) will mostly be for me to keep track of how we’re doing, but if it’s interested you in wanting to help us solve our latest puzzle, feel free to message me for a link to our Discord server, courtesy of ester!

Imigrasi Kediri Batasi Pelayanan Mulai Hari Ini
Tumblr media
Direktur Jenderal Imigrasi Nomor IMI-GR.01.01-2114 Tahun 2020 Tentang Pembatasan Layanan Keimigrasian Dalam Rangka Mencegah Penyebaran Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) di Lingkunan Kantor Imigrasi.
“Sesuai SE Plt. Ditjenim, mulai hari ini Kantor Imigrasi Kelas II Non TPI Kediri melakukan pembatasan layanan keimigrasian,” ujar Kepala Kantor Imigrasi Kediri Rakha Sukma Purnama.

Third Thursday events and exhibitions for March 19 (updated March 18)
The next Third Thursday — the monthly evening of art in Athens, Georgia — is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. This month will offer six events in addition to the exhibitions. One of the venues will be closed.
Also this month, we are announcing a new venue to Third Thursday, tiny ATH gallery. The small gallery space has limited hours for exhibition but intends to be open 6 – 9 p.m. on Third Thursdays. The gallery “will promote a single artist at the time through a full gallery opening featuring a different artist each month.” It’s located at 174 Cleveland Avenue and the website is tinyathgallery.com.
CLOSED: tiny ATH gallery
“Jacob Wenzka: Ecumenopolis” — The word "ecumenopolis" is a Greek word meaning “world city,” or a city that encompasses an entire planet. It is the hypothetical next-level metamorphosis of the current metropolis or megalopolis. The physical representation of the ecumenopolis has been Jacob’s inspiration for the past 4 – 5 years, and the images in this show invite the viewer to reflect on the complexity and sheer magnitude of connections that are constantly being made in our lives, while also pondering the future of humanity and our planet. Jacob Wenzka earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art in 2001. In addition to his fine arts exhibition practice, Jacob has illustrated 6 books (4 children's books and 2 for adults), and is one of the founders of New Growth Publishing, an independent children's book publisher in Athens. The opening is set for Friday, March 20 from 6 – 9 p.m. There will be an Artist Talk the following Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. Limited gallery hours will be posted on tinyathgallery.com.
CLOSED: Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia
Make It an Evening, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. — Enjoy free coffee, dessert and a gallery tour at the museum prior to the performance in Hodgson Hall by George Hinchliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Jittery Joe’s Coffee and Cecilia Villaveces’ cakes. Purchase tickets for the concert at pac.uga.edu.
Teen Studio: Comic Strips and Monsters, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. — Teens ages 13 – 18 are invited to this studio-based workshop led by local artist and educator Kristen Bach. Explore comic strips by local artist Patrick Dean, and then create comic strip–inspired art in the Michael and Mary Erlanger Studio Classroom. Includes a pizza dinner. This program is free, but space is limited. Please call 706.542.4883 or email [email protected] to reserve a spot.
Yoga in the Galleries, 6 p.m. — Join us for a yoga class surrounded by works of art in the galleries. Led by instructors from Five Points Yoga, this program is free and open to both beginner and experienced yogis. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis; tickets are available at the front desk starting at 5:15 p.m. Yoga mats provided.
“Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” 7 p.m. — After Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment — with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) — Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan’s autobiography and directed by two-time Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant. Jack Black, Carrie Brownstein, Beth Ditto and Kim Gordon also star. 2018, R, 114 min.
On view:
“Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection” — A celebration of beauty, this exhibition features more than 60 objects, spanning over 30 years of Tiffany’s prolific career.
“Kevin Cole: Soul Ties” — Three-dimensional wooden and metal constructions by the Atlanta-based painter and mixed-media artist.
“Reflecting on Rembrandt: 500 Years of Etching” — For the 350th anniversary of the death of Rembrandt van Rijn, this exhibition of prints selected and created by students in the Lamar Dodd School of Art commemorates the artist’s profound impact.
“The Monsters Are Due on Broad Street: Patrick Dean” — This small retrospective begins with the artist’s student work at UGA, from which he graduated in 1998, and ends with his recent comics about illness and mortality.
In Dialogue: Cecilia Beaux’s “Twilight Confidences” — A look in detail at Cecilia Beaux’s “Twilight Confidences” — an important recent addition to the museum’s collection and the artist’s first major exercise in plein-air painting.
“Drama and Devotion in Baroque Rome” — Paintings on loan from the Museum and Gallery at Bob Jones University that show the influence of Caravaggio, including works by Rubens, Orazio Gentileschi and Simon Vouet.
Permanent Collection — Thirteen galleries house a large portion of the Georgia Museum of Art’s collection, including many of the 100 American paintings that made up Alfred Heber Holbrook’s founding gift.

On view:
“45th Juried Exhibition” — Juror Larry Ossei-Mensah assembled an exhibit featuring the artistic talent in the Athens region.
“Collections from Our Community” — Michael Lachowski shares his collection of “Trail Trash,” little pieces of litter collected and cataloged in the 90s.
“Lounge Gallery: Lee Coffey” — Charming paintings that celebrate the mundane, depicting everyday items such as house keys or signage with an emphasis on scale and color.
“Works by Eli Saragoussi” — Small fantastical sculptures and a soundscape in the lobby cases.
CLOSED: Ciné
“Jacob Wenzka” — Wenzka is a painter and illustrator, who lives with his wife and three children in Athens, Georgia. He earned a BFA in drawing and painting from the UGA Lamar Dodd School of Art in 2001, and his work has been displayed in a variety of venues throughout the Southeast. The works featured in this show are from his illustration work on children’s books, with focus on the upcoming book, “Robot Soup.” This book is the fourth title he has released, collaborating with local author, Bart King, following Juniper Gets Wet” (2015), “The Girl Who Kept Night In Her Closet” (2017) and “Do Not Read This Book At Bedtime” (2018). “Robot Soup” will be released at the conclusion of this exhibition in April, and pre-orders are available now via Kickstarter. Learn more at NewGrowthPublishing.com.
Hotel Indigo, Athens — The Gallery at Indigo is available for viewing in small groups and for self directed use; GlassCube is outside and can be viewed anytime
“TINY UNIVERSE #3” —The third in a series, this exhibition includes small works by 70-plus Athens- and Atlanta-based artists, most whom have previously exhibited at the Gallery@Hotel-Indigo over the years. “TINY UNIVERSE #3” represents a fraction of the great talent in our area from printmaking to painting, sculpture to jewelry making. Artists were instructed to keep the scale of their works under 64 square inches because, after all, the best things come in small packages!
“Supple Moments, Dark Corners” at GlassCube — A new installation by Elinor Saragoussi is a peek into the tender parts of the artist’s brain. Often it is an agile, colorful, playful space, but at times, the lights turn off and the spooks come out. This installation combines set design, illustration, sound, movement and lighting to create a uniquely whimsical world. Bring your smartphones and listen to the soundscape available via QR code at the Cube.
CLOSED: ATHICA: Athens Institute for Contemporary Art
Closed.
CLOSED: The Classic Center
“Good Vibrations” — Taking a note from the Beach Boys, this show celebrates the end of the summer. Brittainy Lauback photographs cruise life, capturing the seascapes and portraits aboard a Carnival ship. Warren Slater draws from his Australian upbringing and interest in Aboriginal mark-making to create his pulsating pointillist landscapes picturing beaches and surf culture. Hannah Betzel’s vivid abstractions vibrate almost musically, conjuring images of the sea.
“Building Facades” — In Gallery II, on the second floor, Mike Landers’ solo exhibition of sophisticated, symmetric, minimally composed photographs will take you down memory lane. Images of Barnett’s Newsstand, Helix and the Gap will make you nostalgic for nights wandering downtown Athens of the late 1990s and early 2000s and make you realize how much has changed.
CLOSED: Creature Comforts Brewing Co.’s CCBC Gallery
Closing reception for “Migration,” 5 – 7 p.m. — With complimentary snacks and the house DJ, in the taproom.
On view:
Migration” — Local artist Jackie Kirsche presents two new multi-panel, mixed media works of art that explore the rhythms of life as manifested through bird migration patterns.

Waktu beranjak siang. Saya coba ukur lagi saturasinya. Napasnya mulai terlihat aneh.
Saya laporkan kondisi Pak Arif.

The Births, ages & deaths of Their Royal Highnesses Children. c. 1677-8
This small notebook records the dates and exact times of the births of seven of the eight children of James, Duke of York and Anne Hyde, including the future queens Mary II and Anne I; their first child, Charles, Duke of Cambridge (1660-1661) is not recorded. The dates and times of the first three children of James and his second wife, Mary of Modena, are also noted. The early deaths of most of James's children, also recorded in the notebook, vividly captures the high infant mortality rate of the seventeenth century. The death of Anne Hyde at the end of March 1671 is documented, together with a note of James's second marriage: 'The Duke was Mar[ried] & Bedded at Dover to ye Princes[s] Mary of Modena on Fryday ye 21st of Nov[ember] 1673'. Opposite, a lock of hair, probably Anne Hyde's, is sewn onto the page.
The notebook was designed for the Duke of York, whose 'JD' monogram appears both on the elaborate binding in gold tooling and on the clasps, and though it is not in his handwriting, the presence of locks of hair implies the compiler was very close to the royal ducal family. It was written in one sitting, probably in late 1677 or early 1678, as it records the death of a second Charles, Duke of Cambridge (7 November 1677 – 12 December 1677) but not the birth of James's next child, Elizabeth, in 1678. It was probably compiled for James's use; clearly it is a highly personal item.

Quote
She (Mary II) was naturally a good Princess, and had all the sweetness of the Royal Family of the Stewarts in her blood. She had a warm side to all her father's friends; but knowing how much the Scots in general, but especially the Highlanders, were detested by the King her husband, she had too much reservedness and modesty in her temper to interpose in their behalf. But while she commanded herself, which was as often as her husband was in Flanders, she served them as far as was consistent with the policy of that Court.
