Fic: to speak or to be silent (Qiubing)
A/N: @xinyuehui @snicker-doodles
I just had a long day and I need to write something out.
--
"Are you ready to talk now?"
Li Bing bites the inside of his cheek at the way Qiu Qingzhi physically starts at his voice. Granted, he'd been loitering around in the shadows with the aim of not startling Qiu Qingzhi as he snuck back into his room, the way the other man stumbles against the corner of his desk, gasping at the impact.
It looked like it hurt.
Good.
"There's nothing to talk about," Qiu Qingzhi hisses, moving to light a candle. Obstinate, Li Bing thinks, equal parts fond and frustrated by him.
"Oh, I beg to differ. We're talking. Whether you want to or not."
Qiu Qingzhi shoots him a gaze, the tension in his shoulders sitting tight and pinched. Li Bing doesn't flinch and is soon rewarded with the way Qiu Qingzhi visibly unfurls. A surrender.
He takes a half step forward. Then, another. And closer still, until he slides his hand around Qiu Qingzhi's wrist. Gently and slowly, wrapping his touch skin to skin.
Li Bing hears the soft stutter of breath, right as he sees the way Qiu Qingzhi angle his body to him. "Do you regret it? Telling me you love me?" He asks.
The wounded spark in his beloved's brown eyes immediately makes him want to retract what he just said, but he perseveres. Shuffling forth until they are chest to chest. This close, he thinks he can count every dark lash that flutters when Qiu Qingzhi blinks at the sight of him.
"Some days I wish you had told me earlier," Li Bing says. "Some days I wish you hadn't told me at all."
"Li Bing..."
"But every day," Li Bing continues, keeping their gaze with a hand over Qiu Qingzhi's heart. "Every day I am glad you were the braver one of us two."
Qiu Qingzhi grabs the hand on his chest. "Do not... Please do not jest about this. I won't survive it if--"
"I'm not lying. I would never lie about this." Li Bing insists. Swallowing around the lump in his throat, he searches Qiu Qingzhi's face. "I do love you too, you know?"
Li Bing can't stopper the bark of laughter that bubbles out of his chest when Qiu Qingzhi wraps him up in a tight hug and sweeps him off his feet.
"You do?" Qiu Qingzhi asks earnestly, hands cradling Li Bing's face like a precious jewel.
"I do," Li Bing repeats, laughter still ringing his words. "I really do."

Qiu Qingzhi and Li Bing back in the days : You look at me who loves looking at you.
ISTG the way Li Bing looked at Qiu Qingzhi who was looking at him was more like a shy junior who looked at his senior he had a crush on. A part of him secretly hoped that Qiu Qingzhi wouldn't know his feelings towards him, yet another part of him also hoped that his secret crush would share the same feelings as him and then would make the first move on him. He plastered a shy smile as if he tried to pretend that he didn't have any butterflies flying in his stomach.
Tumblr media
The drama wasn't about bromance, but really they just skipped the B and jumped into romance. LOL. Qiu Qingzhi x Li Bing boldly crossed the line of mere brothership. There's no way in Hell you would treat your brother as an adult like that. Not a million times.
Note : They didn't cut the scene where Wang Qi jumped on Cui Bei's back, but they cut the cute scene where Qiu Qingzhi called Li Bing to come over and Li Bing ran to him happily. He jumped on Qiu Qingzhi's back. Qiu Qingzhi was more than happy to give him a piggyback ride for free. He carried him like the most precious thing he wished he could have.
Tumblr media
Qiu Qingzhi and Li Bing now : I'm just a little too not over you. Just a little! You hear me? But how are you so fine without me? I've been crying for you since the day you went away! Am I that unimportant? Am I so insignificant to you? Fine! I'm going to show to the whole world that I'm also fine without you!
Tumblr media
But of course, who could stop our Vice Minister Li from the Court of Judicial Review to act cute towards General Qiu from Jinwu Guard? Li Bing could do whatever he wished since it's Qiu Qingzhi. 撒娇 full mode was activated!
I'd never be a fan of hetero romance drama. I admit that I even always tried to avoid it like a plague because I had a great issue with the FL's half baked 撒娇 (acted like a spoiled child or coquettishly). It never failed to annoy me to the moon and back to the point that killed my mood and gave me a headache. It's the main reason why such a talented actor like Ding Yuxi managed to escape from my radar (my BL-dar, LOL).
White Cat Legend was his first drama that I watched. To be honest, at first, I didn't expect him to be that good, but just a pretty face to help selling the drama. I heard that antis said that his face was just too ordinary. Excuse you, but I had to disagree! I really had no idea which beauty standard that they used to judge Ding Yuxi's exquisite appearance. This guy surely had a pretty face and a pair of equally beautiful expressive doe eyes. His laughs were so addictive. He has fair skin and a pair of cute elf ears that made his face look smaller and innocent.
He's indeed one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen, but his acting skill was on par with his pretty face. He was so detailed in micro expression, voice, quirks, and body language. He used his real voice! I was so glad for that since I could tell his changing mood faster based on his voice. In White Cat Legend, I wonder if he merely relied on what's written on the script or more on his personal interpretation to portray Li Bing. Most of the time when Li Bing gazed at Qiu Qingzhi, it wasn't for a bestie, but a lover. It was understandable if it was a BL or B-romance drama, but it wasn't. I jumped on the QiuBing ship and then sailed, sailed, sailed, to the BL sea.
When they met again after the 3 years of separation & a bitter 'breakup', Li Bing looked at General Qiu with glassy eyes as he was so ready to burst into tears at any moment. His voice tinted with emotional; anger, sorrow, desperation, and unbearable longing. But sometimes his voice became more childish just like when he was younger. He did it only to Qiu Qingzhi, especially when he felt like testing Qiu Qingzhi's patience in every chance that he got. I wonder how Qiu Qingzhi could suppress the urge not to jump on that naughty cat and attack him. By 'attack', I meant wringing Li Bing's delicate neck, not that typical +18 'attack' deflowering him in bed.
Gotta admit that Ding Yuxi's 撒娇 skill is really a top-notch 撒娇! He's not exaggerating. It was just so natural. Damn, he's so cute! When I said cute, it was purely boyish cute. I wouldn't dare to describe him as unmanly. He's a versatile actor that could act as a male character with a feminine traits, just like his role as Dongfang Bubai back then. FYI, Dongfang Bubai was a male character who castrated himself in order to master a martial art in the Sunflower Manual. I didn't watch the drama, but I watched some short videos of his version of Dongfang Bubai. IMHO, he's the best Dongfang Bubai that I've ever seen. They mostly used an actress to play the role of Dongfang Bubai. Ding Yuxi managed to balance masculinity and femininity for Dongfang Bubai. Dear a bunch of half baked 撒娇 skilled actress, you guys better learn that skill from this xiao-Dingding, so your acting can be less annoying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ding Yuxi as Dongfang Bubai
Tbh, I wouldn't mind if the MUA (makeup artist) dolled him up like Dongfang Bubai as Li Bing. Li Bing in his big white cat mode got red eyeshadow under his eyes! Why couldn't he get it in his human form? It would be so epic and undoubtedly look so good on him.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Was the GCI version of the big white cat actually modeled after Ding Yuxi? They really looked alike! Da lizi was just like a mirror image of Ding Yuxi. Look at their eyes and lips!
I wonder if he used a certain method as an actor; shaping himself into the character or blend the character into himself. Whichever he used, it was the best way to understand the character, but also a dangerous way since it's possible that he couldn't get rid off the character even after the drama was over. It was so tricky. However, as an adult, I believe that he was over the fragile stage to find his identity. He was already on the safe side.
As for Wei Zheming, his acting really surprised me. The first time I knew him, he acted as Jing Beiyuan or Qi-ye (Lord Seventh) in Word of Honor. In White Cat Legend, he really surpassed my expectations on him. He nailed the role as Qiu Qingzhi; the left General of Imperial Guard, the General from Jinwu Guard. Most of the time he kept his face stoic and expressionless, but if you paid more attention to it, he clearly had a lot of emotions, especially for Li Bing. I was so glad that they didn't dub his original voice. Unlike when Li Bing addressed Qiu Qingzhi by his title so coldly; damn that was so cold, when Qiu Qingzhi addressed Li Bing by his title, it was full of respect. But when he addressed Li Bing by his name, you could notice the fondness in his voice. You could also sense the air of arrogance and authority whenever he used '本将' (this General) to address himself. Somehow he managed to sound so arrogant even when he used '邱莫' (this humble-self Qiu). Dude, you're not humble at all! However on the contrary, you would notice his modesty when he used '我' (I, me). He's a real two-face guy. He was so different in his monstrous mode and his Saint mode.
Tumblr media
After learning how selfless and sincere Qiu Qingzhi was, my first reaction was; I insulted him so much behind his back. I shouldn't have done that. Oh, same, Wang Qi, same!
It was so sad that they killed Qiu Qingzhi in the drama. But it couldn't be helped since that character was too good. Qiu Qingzhi >>>>>>>>>>> Chen Shi + Wang Qi + Cui Bei + Sun Bao + Alibaba. Once he was back to Li Bing's side, the Mingjing Hall people were basically useless compared to Qiu Qingzhi. Looking back at Qiu Qingzhi x Li Bing in their past, I thought that he was actually the '妖' (demon) in duo '妖饼' (demon Bing). Oh, come on. Li Bing was a frail Young Master back then due his incurable illness. Basically he was like a beauty lamp that even a faint cold air could extinguish it in seconds. Qiu Qingzhi, on the contrary, was a strong and reliable man with wisdom. We know how capable and effective Qiu Qingzhi was in a battle. Capturing a small fry like thieves or bandits was like just a piece of cake for him. He also could make sure that Li Bing was safe and unharmed when he played detective with him.
Maybe it's because he was a slave (servant), even if Li Bing would never treat him like one, no one really would bother to pay attention on him. He was like the shadow of Li Bing who was born with silver in his mouth and so much privilege as the Young Master of an aristocratic family.
Back to the topic. If Qiu Qingzhi was still alive or managed to escape from death, he would single handedly outshine Mingjing Hall people so easily to the point Li Bing no longer needed anyone, but him. I meant it. Wanna bet? Whenever Li Bing needs someone to pamper him, just go get Qiu Qingzhi. Sorry, Chen Shi. Whenever Li Bing needs someone who's highly intelligent and is a sly fox with so many tricks in his sleeves, just go get Qiu Qingzhi. Sorry, Wang Qi. Whenever Li Bing needs someone who's so dedicated to a case and can memorize the detail of each case by heart, just go get Qiu Qingzhi. Sorry, Cui Bei. Whenever Li Bing needs a protection, just go get Qiu Qingzhi. Heck, Qiu Qingzhi could catch and tame the original Demon Cat; Yi Zhihua by himself. He can be a real monster once he puts his heart in it. Sorry, Sun Bao. Whenever Li Bing needs a translator or someone who has a lot of connection in the city, just go get Qiu Qingzhi. He's the left General of the Imperial Guard, he will be a big help with his influence. Sorry, Alibaba.
In short : It absolutely will be the supremacy of the Qiu Qingzhi era!
See? He was so good that they 'better' killed Qiu Qingzhi.
After Qiu Qingzhi's tragic death, I felt like it's Li Bing who's drapped in moonlight, lonely, and sad since no one can replace Qiu Qingzhi. It's definitely a losing game to compete with a dead man. Therefore, it's only Li Bing who remains in the tragedy. Even though in the end, he has Mingjing Hall people who stay on his side, things will never be the same.
Now what? Even though the drama was over, I couldn't move on! Help! 😭😭😭

Fic: shovel talk (Qiubing)
A/N: you know why you're tagged @snicker-doodles 😝
--
"May I know to what displeasure do I owe to have you all..." Qiu Qingzhi trails off, lazily flicking his gaze up from his documents to eye up the five men currently fidgeting under his focus. "Here."
This seems to cause a furious rush of whispers as Alibaba elbows the stocky one he knows is Sun Bai, while Cui Bei and Chen Shi side steps the whole mess. Eventually the glib tongued Wang Qi clears his throat.
"This is..." He smiles, bowing deeply with a smile that would not look out of place on the face of a swindler. "General Qiu, we of Mingjing Hall, have come to ask... That is, we represent the vested interests of Mingjing Hall--"
"If you're going to be beating around the bush like this, might I just make this easier and get Li Bing here to explain it to me why five of his men have practically forced their way into my hall to have an audience with me?"
This seems to spur them into a physical reaction of having the fear of the gods put right into them. Good, Qiu Qingzhi thinks, maybe they can hurry up and tell me what they want so that I can get back to my reports--
"What are your intentions with Li Bing!"
Shocked silence ensues while all eyes turn to look at the quiet Cui Bei who is practically wilting in mortification.
"And what would have given you the idea that I... Had any 'intentions' with him in the first place?"
"This..."
Eyeing them up for a bit, he sighs. Qiu Qingzhi sets aside his report and neatly steeples his fingers. "Go back to Mingjing Hall and come back in two days with a properly constructed script of what you'd like to say to me in defence of your Vice Minister. If you're going to give me a shovel talk, do it right."
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The suffering continues.
Lamenting, not for the first time since he trusted his heart to be honest, at the way his ears are burning while the lilt of laughter fills the night quiet, he tries to turn away from his companion in the bed they share. Only to be bodily hauled back into his arms.
"Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore," Li Bing chuckles. Hand slipping into Qiu Qingzhi's, he tucks his body back into the warmth of their embrace. "So, they came to give you a shovel talk, eh?"
"It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed for them."
"So you gave the kids homework to do," Li Bing giggles, breath dancing over Qiu Qingzhi's neck. "How adorable."
"You deserve people who can give a good shovel talk in defence of you," Qiu Qingzhi says simply. As if stating facts like how the sun rises from the East and sets in the West, Li Bing deserves nothing but the best.
A gentle touch settles over his heart then. "So do you, too. And I'll gladly accept any shovel talk that comes my way for you."
Qiu Qingzhi smiles a little at that. Brushing his lips to the other man's brow, he murmurs, "No need. I already gave my heart to you since the beginning."

Fic: everything they cannot see (Qiubing)
A/N: @xinyuehui @snicker-doodles 💖
Chen Shi will be the first to admit that he’s not the sharpest tool in the box. But what he is, is insightful when it counts. More than that, when it truly counts, Chen Shi sees what others may not.
Just like now.
General Qiu is careful about it. To a better man, it would have been practically impossible to pick up on the ways the little things peek through the mask of stoicism and severity. But Chen Shi is just a normal man. And so, he sees the way the General turns to Bing-ye — the slow tilt of his face to the man like how a flower seeks the sun.
He sees the way General Qiu looks at Bing-ye. Sees how he looks at him with shades of yearning and longing, as if his very soul burns to be near him, and every part of it coloured by a deep and undeniable fondness that is there one moment and gone at the exhale of a breath.
And when Bing-ye turns to face General Qiu, every trace of that is gone.
Chen Shi marvels. Sits at awe in the way the mask on General Qiu’s face shutters over into place so that quickly, one could even dispute it was ever gone in the first place.
“Chen Shi?”
Bing-ye and General Qiu are looking at him. He manages a quick answer, squeezing it out around a squeak. Oh, he should probably start paying more attention to what they’re planning.

Fic: There's something broken about this; But I might be hoping about this (Qiubing)
A/N: @snicker-doodles I hope this satisfies :)
Also tagging @xinyuehui 🐈
Title is from one of my favourite songs by Hozier
--
"What an ominous marriage"
"Look at that head of white..."
"--heard that the General himself requested this marriage--"
"Is it true that the other groom has gone mad from grief?"
Qiu Qingzhi knocks his cup of wine to that of his colleagues, accepting their congratulations even if he can hear the questions their smiles aren't asking outright. There'd been much gawking in the streets when he had rode ahead of the procession and he wasn't a fool to think that their invited guests would behave any differently.
The whispers reach his ears. Probably despite the best efforts of the lips they were uttered from. Qiu Qingzhi inclines his head before turning to direct a maid to check on Li Bing in their bridal suite.
He will tough it out for another half a shichen before he ropes in some of his subordinates to play interference with some of the drinking games starting up around the courtyard. He would rather not leave Li Bing to stew alone in their room. Well, Qiu Qingzhi thinks a little exhaustedly as he pours himself a cup of tea, more alone than he thinks he is.
To his old friend, this marriage may seem like a shackle. To him, it was all he could have ever wanted.
Li Bing had barely said a word to him in the two weeks he had taken to pull together this wedding. Hadn't even said a word about how the sanction for their marriage came from the Empress herself. Had barely acknowledged the gifts and dowry he had brought to the Li residence and was still very much in mourning.
Not even to say anything about how there was a tacit agreement to reduce the fanfare of the wedding procession, even though Qiu Qingzhi would have very much rather given him the mile of red and then some.
Qiu Qingzhi would have loved nothing more than to give Li Bing the wedding he deserved.
Instead, they make do.
In his wildest dreams, Qiu Qingzhi had never dared to hope that one day he would get to perform his wedding bows with Li Bing. Never, in a million years, even in his darkest days did he ever think he would be the one to hoist Li Bing into his arms as he crossed the threshold of his residence.
Li Bing looked beautiful -- looks so beautiful in red. Even in the simplest robes they could manage to pull together to not break taboo, all eyes were on him.
As the other groom, he didn't need to wear a veil, and for that, Qiu Qingzhi is grateful. With delicate gold woven through the whites of his hair, Li Bing makes for a simple and understated groom on his wedding day. But to Qiu Qingzhi... To him, he glowed.
"General."
The maid he had sent to Li Bing bows, stepping close to inform him that Li Bing had only taken two mouthfuls of the sweet porridge he had had the kitchen make. Now, that won't do. Calling over his subordinates, he asks them to help with the guests while he instructs his steward to get the chef ready to prepare any meals Li Bing may want to eat.
It won't do for his groom to not have enough to eat on his wedding night.
Tomorrow, he will send Li Bing off right to the city limits to lead his father's funeral procession back to their hometown. Everything red will be traded to white and as Li Bing's husband, he will follow suit and mourn just the same. Qiu Qingzhi won't follow outright, but he has ordered men to shadow the procession and will be tailing them from a distance.
And at the 100th day mark, Qiu Qingzhi will worship at his father-in-law's tomb. There will be a place for his funeral plaque at the altar in the main hall where Li Bing will call home. In due course, Qiu Qingzhi will tell him that they should move back to the Li residence.
It will be alright.

Fic: How many heartbreaks do I take just to get to you?
A/N: something short to start the day with ☕️
@killerandhealerqueen @xinyuehui @snicker-doodles @wuxia-vanlifer
From across the marketplace, Qiu Qingzhi spies the familiar uniform of the Court of Judicial Review darting between the colours of the crowd. Perhaps he should bristle at the way he cannot escape the things that remind him of…
Well.
He is no fool. Qiu Qingzhi did not make General by being one and he isn’t about to lie to himself, and deny that Li Bing’s attempts at reaching out aren’t working.
It isn’t hard to understand his heart. More than that, it isn’t hard to see how it breaks.
Qiu Qingzhi would be a true fool not to know that breaking Li Bing’s heart again is breaking his own too. But he has to. He can’t risk it.
“General?”
He tips his head at his men. Acknowledging the order to search the streets for their fugitive.
There is no lengths he wouldn’t go to for Li Bing, but to allow love to grow between them is not something he can nurture.
And if he has to break his own heart to keep Li Bing safe, he would.

Fic: you've got the key to my heart (Qiubing)
A/N: I forgot I get motion sickness. Oh, Gab, how did you forget you get motion sickness? Answer is, because I'm a dumbass sometimes and am occasionally prone to the miseries :S
Tagging @snicker-doodles @xinyuehui 💖 @wuxia-vanlifer as well if you are OK with me tagging you 💗
--
"Why?"
Qiu Qingzhi doesn't look up from where he is writing out his report with his uninjured hand. It's due in a month, but might as well get a head start on this and all the non-urgent paperwork.
Anything to give him enough reason not to look Li Bing in the eyes.
"Good evening, Vice Minister Li. I do hope you didn't sneak into my residence just to ask me a question without context."
He feels Li Bing's scowl more than he sees it - - a sort of familiar wavering in the air that tickles an old instinct in him to appease and soothe over whatever that has made the other man unhappy.
"Do not play the fool with me, Qiu Qingzhi, I know you better than that," Li Bing seethes, taking a half step forward. The shadow he casts looms over the wet glint of the drying ink.
Qiu Qingzhi sighs.
"Why do any of this?" He asks around a tired chuckle. Settling the pen brush on its holder, he grunts a little as he unfolds himself from his sitting position, revealing to Li Bing the extent of his injuries.
Li Bing is wide eyed when their gazes meet. It's a dirty trick to get him to stop being upset, but it's one that Qiu Qingzhi knows would work. As much as he is an open book to the other man, Li Bing is to him, too.
He stands as still as possible when he takes a full stride to him. Then a step, tentative and careful. A hand raised, tenderly, slowly. Dark eyes look into his own, waiting for a slight tip of his head before moving again to touch.
Honestly, it looks worse than it feels.
Qiu Qingzhi hadn't hesitated even for a beat to pull Li Bing out of harm's way today. There had not been any thought, only instinct. Some things can't be shaken off in the passages of time, and for Qiu Qingzhi, he'll always be first in line to put his body and soul down to protect his most precious person.
"You're bleeding through the bandages," Li Bing murmurs, tracing the puckered edges of the dressing that has started to darken with red.
"I can change it out after you leave," Qiu Qingzhi says, equally as hushed. The curious curl of hurt in Li Bing's eyes is a surprise.
"Do you... Want me to leave?"
Despite his better judgement, he finds himself saying, "Will you even want to stay?"
The touch that brushes over his skin turns insistent. "Why did you save me today?"
It's a test. Qiu Qingzhi has never been fond of tests.
To tell him the truth would ruin everything he had planned. Every sin, every single ruinous thing he has ever done, every regrettable outcome, every time he tore his soul in two in the hopes of keeping him safe. Every step he had taken to protect this man before him would be in jeaprody if he knew...
If he only knew how much Qiu Qingzhi loves him. Has loved him since the day he shared a plate of biscuits with a runaway slave and protected him. Has loved him through the days and the months and the years, and has never once stopped.
He would give up more than an arm if it means Li Bing could be safe and hale.
But for his bravery on the battlefield, he has no words. Nothing pretty to string together that could be worthy of the truth. So, Qiu Qingzhi carefully takes the hand on his collarbone and brings it over his heart. "You ask me why, but have you ever stopped to ask yourself that? Why are you here, if you don't already know the answer?"
"I..." Qiu Qingzhi tightens his careful hold on Li Bing's hand, shivering a little under the intensity of his gaze. "You have the keys to my heart. You are the only one I have adored most ardently, and I... I..."
Li Bing surges forth, wrapping him up in his arms in a tender hold. Mindful of his injuries, he tucks his face against Qiu Qingzhi's neck lips to his pulse. The sensation burns and the General exhales with a shudder.
"I never asked for this."
"I know," Qiu Qingzhi croaks out, heart hammering in his chest. "I know and I am sorry."
"You fool," Li Bing hisses, pulling back. The corners of his eyes are red-rimmed. "You should have said something earlier..."
"I had to prove myself worthy of you," Qiu Qingzhi manages, willing him to understand. He has no defence against this man. Not when he is smiling back at him, knocking their foreheads together.
"You were always worthy to me."

Fic: worth it, only for you (Qiubing)
A/N: @xinyuehui @snicker-doodles
“I know you’re awake, so you can stop pretending.”
Li Bing had dismissed the servants he had hired just to care for the good General. Going as far as to tell Chen Shi that he should join the others for Mingjing Hall for the festivities in the city. The man had hesitated only long enough for the others to grab him by the neck, bowing only long enough for the wind to carry their hurried thanks while they hurry to the door.
It was amusing, to say the least. But more than letting them have a bit of time off to enjoy themselves, Li Bing just wanted a bit of privacy. For him.
Qiu Qingzhi huffs, shoulders shaking with his quiet sigh.
“Nothing escapes you, does it?”
Li Bing serenely crosses the room, quickly helping Qiu Qingzhi to sit upright with as little aggravation to his healing body as possible. When the man grunts and shifts away from him, Li Bing clucks his tongue. “Be good and let me help.”
The shock and horror on Qiu Qingzhi’s face is matched only by the incredulous parting of his lips that does not know whether to scoff in indignation or laugh outright. It is a physical battle to suppress the laughter in his chest, but Li Bing manages. Barely.
“I’m not your puppy to order around,” Qiu Qingzhi squeezes out, the tips of his ears a bright cherry red.
“You aren’t my puppy, you’re not anyone’s puppy,” Li Bing interjects before the usually stoic man can say anything else. “You’re your person. No one else’s.”
This seems to be the right thing to say, because the General settles back. A comfortable silence draws itself between them, and Li Bing watches on as the man tips his head, turning his face to the open windows by the bed.
“What time does the fireworks start?”
“In another shichen,” Li Bing answers. Rising up, he moves to the table to fix them both cups of tea. “Plenty of time for you to tell me what you’d like to eat and for me to head out to get it for you.”
Qiu Qingzhi contemplates on it, blinking slowly in thought.
“Do you still have any of those biscuits…?”
Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a wrapped handkerchief. Unfurling it, he reveals two familiar biscuits. Handing one to Qiu Qingzhi, Li Bing takes the other for himself with a smile.
“The old baker who used to make this had retired a couple of years back and gone back to his hometown. I had spent a bit of time hunting him down to get the recipe off him, but I would say it was worth it.”
Qiu Qingzhi laughs, wiping the back of his hand over his mouth. Before he can, Li Bing reaches out and brushes off the crumbs from the corner of his lips.
“Yeah,” Li Bing murmurs, not a little mesmerised by the way the little puffs of air tickles the back of his hand. “I think it was.”
Qiu Qingzhi does not move away. Ever the military man, even now.
Li Bing feels his heart twists a little fondly. Pulling back, he carefully takes the cup from his unresisting hands.
“Do you ever wonder what we could’ve been to each other?”
“Sometimes,” Qiu Qingzhi answers after a beat. “When it’s just me and the dark of the night, I allow myself to wonder.”
Li Bing looks down at the half bitten biscuit in his hand and whispers, “Me too. I’d wonder where it’d all gone wrong. How I could have done better by you.”
“But here we are.”
“Here we are,” Li Bing says. Adoringly, he takes in a deep breath, casting his eyes over and out towards the twilight skies. “Do you know what was the one thing I wondered about the most?”
Qiu Qingzhi, seemingly content to entertain where this is heading, smiles back at him. Hooded gaze unflinching as he takes a slow bite of his biscuit. “Pray, do tell.”
“How your lips would taste on mine.”
The General hums, pink tongue darting out to lick up the crumbs. “Probably like tea and biscuits.”
“Probably. But if it’s alright with you, I’d like to taste it for myself. I’m a Vice Minister, after all.”
Qiu Qingzhi’s smile grows. Shaped a little less sharp and shaded sweet with fondness.
By the time the first flash of fireworks colour the night skies and the choir of the crowd carries through to them, there was no knowing where one began and where one ended.
And the task of mapping that out, was theirs to do.

Fic: if I loved you less… (Qiubing)
A/N: @xinyuehui @snicker-doodles
I had a thought and I ran with it. Typing this out on my phone. If you saw a typo, no you did not. And yes. This fic was written to the tune of this song 👇🏼
Alcohol, as an old barrack mate had once said to him, is sweet comfort when your heart is breaking into a thousand pieces. Granted, the man had just caught his wife cheating on him with the tailor and that two of his six kids were possibly not his, Qiu Qingzhi thinks that that advice should be one taken with a pinch of salt.
But now, as he watches Li Bing from afar, laughing along with whatever Chen Shi is wildly gesticulating about, he can’t help but wonder if that old man might’ve been right about something after all.
Another day, another case for Li Bing to put his brilliant mind into unraveling. Qiu Qingzhi has never stopped being in awe of him.
Two shadowy figures creep in the eaves of the building. With a glance to his guards, he dispatches them to take out the trash before it can stink.
He has been careful.
The machinations Qiu Qingzhi has gone through to make sure that no one will ever even think or even believe that he would ever care for what happened to Li Bing. Planted the seeds and laid the foundations for a widespread belief that he, Qiu Qingzhi, had nothing but contempt for Li Bing.
Strangers might buy into the charade, but isn’t that what the only person who ever saw him for who he was, is to him these days?
The peach blossom wine taste like donkey’s piss on his tongue.
His displeasure must have been clear on his face because the steward bustles over to offer a change of his drink.
“No matter,” Qiu Qingzhi says, gaze still fixed on the way Li Bing is leaning into Chen Shi’s space while they both watch the dancers on the stage. “They all taste the same to me after a while.”
Maybe some day he’ll enjoy alcohol for the pleasure of it. But as he watches the way Chen Shi holds on to Li Bing’s elbow, he knows it won’t be today.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: 大理寺少卿游 | White Cat Legend (Live Action TV) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Qiu Qingzhi/Li Bing Characters: Li Bing (White Cat Legend), Qiu Qingzhi Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion, Drift Compatibility (Pacific Rim), Angst, Getting Back Together Summary:
When Li Bing started his day, he had only expected it to go one way - - he'd pick up the jobs on The Wall that no one else would do for the extra rations that he didn't need, clock out, drag himself to the nearest bar, get halfway through the bottle without getting into any fight he didn't start, then roll back to his dinghy studio flat to sleep the buzz off in the hopes he won't dream tonight.
(it never works but the drinking does take the edge off)
[[aka every fandom needs a PacRim AU and I was determined to be the one who writes it]]

I wish i had the power write it myself but, the paralel of them before the minister(li bing’s dad) death, all childhood sweethearts and after it all went down, tied with a ribbon of a sentence. I imagined something like “we could’ve worked together” between them as kid imagining themselves in the future, and them in the future talking abt their current relationship (qiu qingzhi(if im not wrong writing his name) keeps taking li bing’s cases for ‘protection’)
A/N: I’m taking that ribbon bit seriously 😚ྀིྀིྀིྀིྀི
“What’s this then?”
Li Bing merely smiles in reply, licking his lips as he one handedly tries to tie the end of a red string around his pinky finger. “Come here,” He instructs, immediately looping the other end of the string around Qiu Qingzhi’s left little finger.
“Are you trying to cut off circulation to my finger? Is this how you succeed in killing me?”
“Oh, hush,” Li Bing grouses, unable to hold a serious face for too long at the way Qiu Qingzhi is wiggling his eyebrows. “We still have to make good on working our way up the Court of Judicial Review. Both of us as Vice Ministers under my father, remember?”
“Of course,” Qiu Qingzhi says agreeably with the tone of someone used to playing along and indulging with whatever his most precious person says. “But it still doesn’t tell me what this is all about?”
“Silly. I’m making rings for the both of us.”
Qiu Qingzhi makes a curious noise, scooting closer to see the neat knot Li Bing used to tie off the string around his finger.
“We could just as easily buy ones from the market? I’m sure there’s a craftsman there who can even shape our rings in whatever designs we want.”
Li Bing clicks his tongue disapprovingly. Putting on an air of ‘I know things that you don’t’, he takes a pair of scissors and snips the loose string between the down so that the threads on their fingers are sitting snug and flat.
“I overheard the matchmaker talk about red strings today. She was saying that fated people have red strings that tie them together,” Li Bing explains. Infinitely patient while he hums in satisfaction at his handiwork. “There. All done.”
Qiu Qingzhi holds his hand out to the sky, examining the red against his pale skin.
“You know that’s not how it works, right? You can’t just make a red string of fate,” He says, hooking his finger around Li Bing’s. “You either have a red string of fate or you don’t at all.”
Li Bing shakes his head. Tightening the hook of their fingers, he sits closer. “I don’t believe that.”
“Stubborn.”
Smiling ruefully, Li Bing shrugs. “Only when it comes to you.”
-
He finds it threaded into a belt charm. Tucked under all that armour that Qiu Qingzhi wears, it would have looked like nothing to anyone who didn’t know what it was.
But Li Bing wasn’t just anyone and he definitely knew what that was. What it meant and still means to the both of them.
“You kept it,” Li Bing whispers. Awe and guilt seizing tight in his chest.
“I never took it off. Even when…”
Li Bing nods. Understanding what Qiu Qingzhi still can’t say out loud. The hurt is still there and soon they’ll need to address it if they want to keep doing this. And by the heavens above, Li Bing will do it whatever it takes to keep this stupid man with him for forever.
“Don’t move,” He sighs, immediately reaching out to help Qiu Qingzhi sit up in bed. “You’re still healing.”
“I can’t help it. You kidnapped me from my perfectly fine bed—“
“Someone needs to keep an eye on your foolish ass and you’ve got your men too cowed to say a word against you—“
“—practically tied me to your bed—“
“So that I can watch over you—!”
“The Jinwei Guards have perfect access to medical personnel and we have just as good of resources as the Court of Judicial Review.” Qiu Qingzhi raises an eyebrow. “Just admit it. You’re stubborn. It has always been your way or no way at all.”
“Only when it counts. Only when it comes to you,” Li Bing says. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he exhales, shoulders slumping. “Can’t you just… Let me do this?”
If Qiu Qingzhi has anything to say, he keeps it locked away. When Li Bing looks back to him, the man is serenely watching the way the rain is sluicing off the rooftops.
“I can’t lose you. Not when I almost lost you for good.” Li Bing admits, offering the truth uncoloured by any intent other than to be honest.
Reaching out a hand, he hooks their pinky fingers together. “I made a red thread for both of us. I chose you. I’ll choose you, every single time. I made the mistake of not fighting hard enough for you the first time round and I won’t do that again.”
“You…” Qiu Qingzhi huffs. Shaking his head, he slowly smiles, indulging and fond. “I can’t ever win against you.”
Scooting closer to him, Li Bing folds a hand over their joined digits. “It’s only because you always let me win.”

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: 大理寺少卿游 | White Cat Legend (Live Action TV) Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Qiu Qingzhi/Li Bing Characters: Li Bing (White Cat Legend), Qiu Qingzhi Additional Tags: Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics, Alpha/Omega, Alpha Li Bing, Omega Qiu Qingzhi, Angst, Established Relationship, mentions of oral sex, Crying During Sex, Knotting, Consensual Somnophilia, Intersex Qiu Qingzhi, more feels than sex tbh, but that feels very onbrand for me somehow Summary:
In the soft growl that carries through the late morning sunlight, Li Bing picks up on the whine of desperation and pain and feels his heart react in an instinctual pull to soothe and protect. On his skin, he feels his mark burn. Idly, he wonders if it burns the same on Qiu Qingzhi's own.
Almost immediately, the backs of his teeth ache.
